Rep. Hunter won’t visit Chadian refugees if he can’t hunt wildebeest.

Rep. Duncan Hunter’s (R-CA) staff recently contacted the U.S. embassy in Chad to see whether he could visit the country and distribute food at a refugee camp. He said he wanted to hunt wildebeest and then distribute the meat to the refugees. The embassy, however, wasn’t too happy with this idea — especially because there are no wildebeest in Chad:

ngorongoro_wildebeest.jpg — Post welcomes Congressman Hunter’s interest in food assistance to Darfur refugees in Chad. Given the significant quantities of U.S. food aid programmed for distribution to these refugees through the World Food Program (WFP), Embassy Ndjamena would encourage the Congressman to time his visit to coincide with an already scheduled food distribution.

– Embassy Ndjamena can make the necessary arrangements for the Congressman to observe a WFP food distribution, which will include U.S. food aid, in one of the refugee camps.

– Regarding the Congressman’s desire to hunt wildebeest and distribute the cured meat to refugees, wildebeest are not present in Chad.

– The GOC does not permit the hunting of large mammals.

Hunter was clearly more interested in hunting than helping refugees. He is now trying to arrange hunting expeditions in Kenya, Tanzania, and Southern Africa instead. Ironically, CNN recently reported that wildebeest between Kenya and Tanzania are “under threat from poachers.”

Democracy Arsenal has more.

Can he at least shoot stupid Rethuglicans?

  2. pete says:

I’m a lifelong hunter and this makes me SICK.

Here’s a tip for you “Dunc”. Go for a swim in every bit of standing water you see. Then, you can kill crocodiles (self defense) and get a better photo op than passing out wimpy critters like gnu.

  3. tom says:

If Duncan is looking for “sport”, I suggest that he go to the Afghanistan/Pakistan border and hunt for the rare and cunning Osamis bin Ladenis.

  4. Zimzone says:

…”wildebeest between Kenya and Tanzania are “under threat from poachers.”

American Patriots are under threat from preachers, politicians & neoCons.

I know, we could shoot them, but the meat tastes bad & their’s no market for it anymore.

  5. CatelynK says:

Ah, Dunkin, it’s so sweet to think of you passing out someone else’s food to starving people. Representing your country as as a U.S. Congressman, I presume.

Smart way to cover expenses for that hunting trip! Why aren’t you ever this smart when doing your real job?

  6. bebop says:

I sometimes wonder how anyone can vote Republican when the majority are just as stupid and indifferent to humanity as Rep Hunter.

  7. dixie blood says:

This jerk wants to kill a rare animal for the trophy head. He’s trying to give cover to his poaching by claiming to “feed” people he doesn’t give a 1/2 sh|t about!

  8. WaltTheMan says:

Why doesn’t he check with Dick Cheney and find a wildlife ranch where he can shoot a caged animal? So much more in the republican sportsman image.

  9. Bluedahlia says:

It’s good to know what our tax money is paying them to do. ./sarc
Why the hell am I paying taxes so that our representatives can go on safari? My values? US values? What the hell is he representing? oh yeah, the greed of the American corporo-fascist regime.

  10. Zimzone says:

I suppose he’ll have to settle for shooting refugees; their’s no shortage of them in Africa.

  11. Mugsy says:

I’m sorry, but just how many more examples do the American people need to realize the modern Republican Party is completely morally bankrupt? (and more than a tad nuts.)

  12. upside99 says:

And this guy was an early Repug candidate for Pres! What an AssKlown!

He and the Dukester were butt-hole buddies, too.

  13. sectionop92 says:

Yes, Duncan doesn’t have any issues with inferiority. I don’t think he’s trying to substitute the gun or the hunt with any part of his manhood or lack of sexual substance in his life at all. No siree!

See, kids…this is what happens when you’re white, old and hate yourself so much that you can’t part with $150 for a prostitute of another race. You have to buy a BIG gun and hope to live a fantasy with other men…who are the same way.

  14. RUCerious says:

Could they dress Hunter up as a gorilla and let the poachers have at him>>? Please?

  15. regular_joe says:

If Hunter hunts like he ran his presidential campaign, then the wildebeests have nothing to worry about.

  16. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

Duncan Hunter is just another stupid right-wing Republican pig… Take away their guns and give these cowardly “sports-men” a knife, a club, a few rocks and a slingshot and them see how many animals they can murder on a more level playing field…

  17. pasnell says:

Hey guys don’t worry…. He’s retiring…. and his son is running for his seat….. Have no fear…. His son has the same great gung-ho attitude…. “voters are nice people when it come to election time, any other time….they are just annoying liberals.”

Why would he possibly want to see more poor people???….there are enough to see in his district….. Now if you set a wildebeest in his district….. then he would be interested…

  18. The Shadow says:

Duncan Hunter is a moron and that’s all there is to it.

  19. misshusseinmolly says:

The embassy, however, wasn’t too happy with this idea — especially because there are no wildebeest in Chad…
    ____________________________________________________

Duncan probably expects Chad to import them for his hunting pleasure…

  20. sectionop92 says:

I believe any embassy would have a problem with a dull as a stump Congressman calling and hoping to hunt down game, then feed it in a goodwill gesture. Not good press when the Red Cross asks questions on “where the meat” came from.

  21. Paul W says:

There may not be any wildebeest in Chad but I hear it’s open season for Republicans in Washington. They may however, not be as much sport as they tend to be slow, fat and stupid. They don’t make very good eating either and are too ugly to mount on a wall.

  22. dixie blood says:

Were they going to make McWildebeest Quarter Pounders for the starving?

  23. Alejandro says:

You’d think that if there were an abundance of wildebeest in Chad, then there wouldn’t be too many people going hungry, eh?

Maybe Hunter was thinking “I know. I’ll go down there, kill the wildebeest and feed the meat to the refugees. You know, show’em how it’s done! Teach a man to fish and all.”

    What a dope.

  24. bentley1 says:

When it comes to the brain dead Duncan Hunter”
    NO gnus is good news.

  25. Chris L says:

He should know there are no wildebeests in Chad – they are all on the Iraq/Pakistan border. He should request a trip there.

  26. Chuck Feney says:

Rep. Boehner has invited Rep. Duncan to join his junket to ANWR where he will be encouraged to shoot and kill as many caribou as he can, since they are standing in our way to drill for oil there.

  27. bentley1 says:

Wouldn’t you like to see a wildebeest stick his horns up Hunters’ dumb arse?
    tony andlido

  28. Buckie Boy says:

Maybe he can hunt some “Tame, pen raised” Beasties, like old uncle Dick. Those “wild” quail are some tough critters you know.

  29. pete says:

    Great point Alejandro.

Large mammals get eaten during famines. I doubt that there’s anything larger than a house cat within 500 miles of the death camps. I mean refugee centers.

And even if he did find something to shoot “for the poor starving people” he would just be stealing food from the mouths of those who are trying to survive outside the death camps. I mean refugee centers.

“No one is as stupid as those who are willfully ignorant”.

  30. Leftside Annie says:

Well, he and Robert Novak ought to get together and hit the streets of Washington, DC and hunt ‘em some wild pedestrians!!

  31. dixie blood says:

Shouldn’t Duncan Hunter, if his name is correct, be Hunting for Duncans (i.e. trolls and RePugniScums?)

  32. lm945 says:

In parts of Africa, the law allows poachers to be shot on sight (I’m not up on the current statistics, but park rangers are killed every year by poachers).

  33. MapleStreet says:

Sounds like the good ole tradition of taking a vacation and making it look like you’re doing business. That way you can at least deduct the cost from your taxes if not outright get the “little man” taxpayer making minimum wage pay for it.

Can I hope that the IRS is following this story ?

  34. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

So, in other words, he wants us taxpayers to pay for his hunting party. Nice…

  35. Duke hussein says:

What was the name of the supper club in the movie “The Freshman”?

  36. krdaddy says:

I’m sure in his mind he’s Duncan the Hunter, great white memsab, toting his wildebeest into camp to feed several thousand refugees. I’m from San Diego, and believe me, this
    guy is off his rocker.

  37. Evil Spaniard says:

Hunter was clearly more interested in hunting than helping refugees. He is now trying to arrange hunting expeditions in Kenya, Tanzania, and Southern Africa instead. Ironically, CNN recently reported that wildebeest between Kenya and Tanzania are “under threat from poachers.”

All done with taxpayer’s money, of course.

  38. zuch says:

Regarding the Congressman’s desire to hunt wildebeest and distribute the cured meat to refugees, wildebeest are not present in Chad.

There are giraffes nearby, though. We did a day excursion from N’Djamena across the border to a Cameroun nature preserve, where I shot several giraffes … with my camera.

    Cheers,

It is confirmed, RE-PUKES don`t have hearts, souls or brains. This man is despicible , he should go hunting with Cheney and the shrub……….

  42. Robt says:

Why do Americans think this is acceptable behavior from our elected officials.

When they show they forgot who they work for and who elected them. That goes for who did not vote for them as well.

More Power to him… Water wildebeest hunting is amazingly thrilling and they don’t taste bad either! yum…

  45. curious says:

    Mr.Hunter

Typical informed Republican. He only wants to kill, and he doesn’t care where. Just anywhere. Just give him a gun. He would prefer I imagine to having some poor animal tied down for convenience. Or perhaps from an airplane.

This is the only way he can feel manly. To kill something because he can. This is not a sportsman. He is a Republican waster.
