Rove denies any involvement in Siegelman scandal.»

Today, TPMmuckraker obtained the written answers from Karl Rove to questions posed to him by Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) about former Alabama governor Don Siegelman’s allegedly politically-motivated prosecution. In the letter, Rove denies involvement in Siegelman’s prosecution, contradicting an affidavit and the sworn testimony of GOP lawyer Dana Jill Simpson:

I have never communicated, either directly or indirectly, with Justice Department or Alabama officials about the investigation, indictment, potential prosecution, prosecution, conviction, or sentencing of Governor Siegelman, or about any other matter related to his case, nor have I asked any other individual to communicate about these matters on my behalf. I have never attempted, either directly or indirectly, to influence these matters.

Earlier this month, Rove — despite being subpoenaed — skipped a House hearing on the Siegelman case by fleeing the country to Yalta, the historic Black Sea resort in Ukraine.

    Of course he does.

    IOKIYAR

  2. electricphoto Says:

Please Notice Nancy Pelosi doing nothing to enforce the Rove subpoena - except of course making the rounds of the news shows to criticize Bush.

Thats how it works, protect the Republican and criticize all you want. That’s the bargain.

Behind every criminal Republican is a bought off or bribed Democrat.

    America gets screwed again.

  3. Seattle Says:

Is it perjury (or some other crime) to lie in a statement like this?

  4. jcambece Says:

Yalta? I thought Rove fled to Sweden.

  5. William Ockham Says:

The headline is incorrect. Read Rove’s statement more closely. He’s only denying that he talked to DOJ or Alabama officials. William Canary and Rob Riley (his contacts in Alabama) were not ‘officials’.

  6. enough Says:

And I’m not the one who spilled salsa on the carpet (honest) but I will not swear it on oath.

  7. SP Biloxi Says:

I have never communicated, either directly or indirectly, with Justice Department or Alabama officials blah, blah, blah.

And Tricky Dick Nixon said “I’m not a crook.”

  8. Aanya Says:

Karl Rove is a stinkin, filthy, liar! There is a special place in hell for him, for all the pain and damage he has caused so many people!

  9. questioneverything Says:

Why in the hell is Conyers, et. al, not forcing testimony from the other Alabama persons obviously involved in this case? Oh, I forgot, they haven’t tried a case in court in decades. Or they think asking Bushco for anything will get them somewhere. Either way, it goes nowhere. There are liars, and then there is Karl Rove–no reason to claim himself a human American citizen.

  10. Zooey Says:

    Karl Rove is vile.

He made my skin crawl the first time I ever saw him, and I knew nothing about him at the time.

  11. jonny Says:

    Send KKKarl a sternly-worded letter.

  12. drtichy Says:

I hoped that this Congress would be effective representing people’s will. But what we have is actually a very weak and ineffective bunch of potilitians who sold their souls to the Bush gang.

If we had a decent Congress that respected the Constitution, Karl Rove and many others - including Bush and Cheney - would be in prison at this time.

However, it seems that America no longer belongs to the Americans, but rather to the crooks. And the Congress is just a powerless toy in the hands of a corrupt administration.

Those who want more of the same, make sure to vote for McCain!!!

  13. grmrpr Says:

Democrats who were elected to solve a problem and bring justice to America and prosecute corruption, who are now “dirty” and now part of the problem, and who refuse to do their jobs, really should be the first ones prosecuted and made an example out of.You don’t deserve a paycheck or a pension. We are ashamed of every last one of you.

    Set Orkin on this cockroavch.

Enough of this BS. Put this bastard and the others under oath, then frog march them to their awaiting jail cells.

  16. RUCerious Says:

Where, oh where are all those emails? Right. He shredded them…

  17. katy Says:

    rove: “I have never… ”

    … well, ok then… that’s that.

  18. chingebush Says:

Rip his eyes out and skull fck him. He’ll talk.

Not what I would wish on any human, but KKKarl?
    Just do it.

  19. Fan of Man Says:

    then testify you fu*king liar.

  20. Keith H. Says:

I’m sure I don’t know half as much as I should about how our government actually functions, all of the intimate details.
From what I do know, This Congress Makes Me Sick.
Not using inherent contempt to bypass a corrupt AG and obtain testimony under oath from the subpoena dodgers is something these dems will not outlive. I hope to hell they all lose their jobs, and quick.

  21. rocks911 Says:

    grmrpr,

I couldn’t have said it better myself, I’m sick to death of the Democratic “leadership”. It’s hard to daily read these headlines of supposed outrage about this administrations behavior and then watch that absolutely nothing is done about it.

  22. KEVKEV IN APACHE JUNCTION Says:

    Karl Rove to Congress:

It rubs the lotion on its skin. It does this whenever it is told.

It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again.

Now it places the lotion in the basket.
It places the lotion in the basket.
Put the fu*king lotion in the basket!

  23. kasinca Says:

And we all know that KKKarl Rove never tells a lie. That is why he always refuses to put the hand on the Bible and swear under oath. I guess it is not necessary for thugs like him.
