O’Reilly Claims ‘MoveOn Is The New Klan’ And Its Supporters Are ‘Koolaid Drinking, Zombie Followers’

Yesterday, rap star Nas delivered a petition to Fox News’s Manhattan headquarters, calling on the network to “stop its racist smears against the Obamas and other Black Americans.” The petition, which was organized by Color of Change and MoveOn.org, was signed by over 620,000 people.

On his show last night, Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly claimed that MoveOn was “smearing Fox News.” “The latest smear from Moveon is telling their Koolaid drinking, zombie followers that FOX News is smearing Barack Obama and is a racist concern,” declared O’Reilly.

He then declared that “It is not a stretch to say MoveOn is the new Klan”:

O’REILLY: Obama must condemn organizations like MoveOn and DailyKos if he truly wants to run without a race component.

These are the people that are dividing Americans along racial lines. It is not a stretch to say MoveOn is the new Klan.

NPR’s Juan Williams and Republican consultant Angela McGlowan, agreed with him. Williams called the petition “fascist” while McGlowan thanked O’Reilly for his “jihad on these folks.” Watch it:

Despite O’Reilly, Williams and McGlowan’s denials, Fox News has engaged in racially offensive coverage of African-Americans. Just recently, a network anchor described a fist bump between Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) and his wife as “a terrorist fist jab.” A Fox chyron once labeled Michelle Obama a “baby mama.”

Labeling his political foes as equivalent to the Ku Klux Klan is nothing new for O’Reilly, but every time he does it, he “trivializes the very real problems, the real violence and hatred, caused by the Klan.”

Transcript:

Hi, I’m Bill O’Reilly. Thanks for watching us tonight. Smearing FOX News, that is the subject of this evening’s Talking Points Memo. The far left billionaire George Soros has poured big money into the Moveon organization, which espouses a radical left agenda, and attacks those who oppose that nonsense. We have documented that for years. And frankly, Moveon is simply boring. Most honest folks stay away from those people.

The latest smear from Moveon is telling their Koolaid drinking, zombie followers that FOX News is smearing Barack Obama and is a racist concern. Of course, that’s a lie. This broadcast and FNC in general has been exceedingly fair to Senator Obama.

Our conservative analysts oppose Obama. Our liberal analysts like him a lot. Our hard news people give the senator the benefit of the doubt.

In short, we’re fair. Our high ratings prove that, but we are not in the tank for Obama as NBC news is, for example. But in order to intimidate anyone from criticizing Obama in any way, Moveon is playing the race card. What swell people they are.

Now thankfully, few are buying the garbage. The only public person we know that’s helping Moveon smear FOX News is far left Congressman Robert Wexler.

[...]

Now in the beginning of this campaign, I told you that any media using the race card would be scrutinized by us. And that includes folks who may attack Senator Obama on that basis, but we have seen little of that. Instead, the vile far left smear machines are trafficking in racial hate. And the Moveon campaign is a vivid example of that.

To his credit, Barack Obama has not made race an issue and was embarrassed when Jesse Jackson did that a few days ago. But Obama must condemn organizations like Moveon and DailyKos if he truly wants to run without a race component.

These are the people that are dividing Americans along racial lines. It is not a stretch to say Moveon is the new klan. And that’s the Memo.

Now for the top story tonight, reaction to this from FOX News analysts Angela Mcglowan in Memphis, Tennessee and Juan Williams in Washington, D.C.

You know, Juan, I’m getting a little tired of this.

JUAN WILLIAMS: I don’t blame you.

O’REILLY: You know, I mean, we’re — this is now the tactic on Moveon, Soros, NBC News, not all of NBC News, but you know who we’re talking about.

WILLIAMS: Yes, sure.

O’REILLY: It’s the tactic. FOX News is racist, based on nothing. And then to see a congressman like Wexler, the only one, by the way, the only one in the United States, to sign on to that, I’m starting to get a little teed off, Juan. You know?

WILLIAMS: Well, look, I got to tell you something. I get this personally. You know, why are you on FOX? Why do you go on O’Reilly? You know, that’s — I say, what’s the basis for this? What do you think? Oh, well, FOX once did this thing about a fist bump between Obama and his wife and that was a terrorist thing. Or FOX once said that it was, you know, your baby’s mama regarding Michelle Obama while she was on screen.

And therefore, FOX – I said wait a second, you mean to say that you didn’t catch it when Dan Rather was on MSNBC and was talking about Osama bin Laden? In fact, he was trying to refer to Barack Obama? You don’t catch it when The Washington Post runs an entire story about Obama’s Muslim roots and it stirs up all this kind of concern and consternation, in fact, confusion about his religious background? You don’t catch it when Osama bin Laden and Barack Obama are confused on NBC, even NBC?

I say what is the basis for your making this claim? It is fascist, Bill, fascist. They don’t want anybody to speak any word that differs from theirs. They have their own political agenda. And they’re using this to make FOX a whipping boy…

O’REILLY: Absolutely, absolutely.

WILLIAMS: …to demonize everybody who appears on this network.

O’REILLY: But the larger agenda, Angela, is if they can call you a racist…

ANGELA MCGLOWAN, REPUBLICAN STRATEGIST: Yes.

O’REILLY: …for any criticism of Barack Obama, any at all, OK, then you can eliminate the criticism.

MCGLOWAN: Listen, the bottom line is this, Bill. The truth crushed to the ground will rise again, but a lie will never stand. Moveon.org, this isn’t new. They did out FOX on Capitol Hill, bashing Rupert Murdoch and FOX News. Also, you had a coalition of people writing the FTC to take

fair and balanced away from FOX News. We have been number one in diversity. You even spoke before the National Action Network, Al Sharpton’s group, on bias in the media, Bill.

The bottom line is this. We have to stand fast, do what we’re doing, and I’m glad that you’re doing this jihad on these folks, but we have to hold people accountable. And where was Obama and Moveon.org when FOX News partnered with the Black Caucus in 2004 to do the first Democrat presidential debate? Obama refused to it this time and it killed the deal.

O’REILLY: OK. You know, the tactic is despicable. As Angela said, I mean, we’re not going to give in the inner workings and bore you with that, but FOX leads the league in diversity, leads the league in helping minorities, not only African-Americans, but all minorities across the board.

MCGLOWAN: Hispanics, women.

O’REILLY: A tremendous amount of money in that regard. Our staff is all colors, all ideologies. But these people have no – you see, this is what disturbs me, Juan. No one challenges them but us. No one challenges Moveon, and the Kos, and Media Matters. All these people are in together. It’s a big, big cabal.

    ace,

    Rubber, Glue…

    Wah wah wah.

Back to the topic at hand, this accusation of “being the new Klan” is really rich come from Bill “I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia’s restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it’s run by blacks, primarily black patronship. There wasn’t one person in Sylvia’s who was screaming, ‘M-Fer, I want more iced tea.’” O’Reilly.

Yeah, Bill, DailyKos is racist, not you. You’re right.

  10. misshusseinmolly says:

I have a couple of observations here. First, referring to any person or any organization as “the Klan” tends to cheapen that term. Last I checked, neither DailyKos nor MoveOn was lynching anyone.

Second, it’s not racist to point out blatant racism. The reality is that the both of the Obamas have been subjected to slurs from Fox News that would NEVER have been thrown at them had they been white. Barack is supposed to condemn MoveOn because they are condemning Fox for saying things like “terrorist fist jab”? Or referring to Michelle as a “baby mama”? Please.

  11. liberal traitor says:

Oh and need I remind everyone that DailyKos and MoveOn.org both endorse and back Obama?

    And so somehow, they’re racist?

Who do you support again Bill? Oh right, another old white guy for President. Not that voting for McCain makes anyone a racist (stupid, yes), but since voting for Obama apparently does…rubber glue and all that…right ace?

    ___________________________________________________________

I hadn’t heard of it used as a racist term (but I suppose anything’s possible).

I am more familiar with the Jim Jones context. His followers drank cyanide-laced Kool Aid (actually it was Flavor-Aid, but Kool Aid has been getting the bum rap for it) at his command, and committed mass suicide. “Drinking the Kool Aid” has become a euphemism for anyone who mindlessly follows an ideologue like a lemming without question.

    ______

Racist? Nah, that doesn’t make sense, unless there’s a new definition somewhere in the vernacular. In this context, it’s a reference to the Jonestown Massacre, in which people drank poison in order to blindly follow their leader.

Of course, it’s a bit of a misnomer, since the Peoples’ Temple followers drank Flavor-Aid, not Kool-Aid. But that’s the derivation.

What’s unfair is censorship. Bill O’Reilly makes a vicious personal attack on an organization, and MoveOn is prevented from responding to that accusation.

And I know your knee-jerk response is, “It’s their station, they can do what they want.”
Which means they don’t have to honor freedom of speech.

That they could have stopped with just being fair, but went the extra mile, to the “exceedingly fair” zone. Not just fair, but EXTRA fair. Apparently, fair to the point that it was painful to them. Still, they may want to go just a little further in their efforts. I say FNC strive for “super-duper fair”. Umm.. it may mean they have to change everyone from the top down. Billo’s first to go.

If this is a forum for intellectual discussion , why are you here ?

1st off , I didn’t “source” anything ; not being able to read someone’s post correctly sure as hell doesn’t give you any credibility , nor does it allow you to claim any type of ’slander’ towards a walking colostomy bag like O’Lielly.

And for your information , I already posted this earlier :

Stalinism is the political regime named after Joseph Stalin, leader of the Soviet Union from 1929–1953. It includes an extensive use of propaganda to establish a personality cult around an absolute dictator, as well as extensive use of the secret police to maintain social submission and silence political dissent.

The above sounds like those who have backed , and continue to back , the worst president in US history in Chimpy ; perhaps you should have attended your local library a lot more than erroneously trying to belittle others that they have not read any or enough history books……..

We’ll try to live up to your standards, indy. I admire your reluctance to call names. It must come from the “complete goodness” of your heart.

I think I may cry. Excuse me.

That’s right, Ralph. You have seen me around. I don’t call names and never will. There is no room that type of behavior in any adult conversation.

    According to whom ?

    You ?

Tell that to Stewart , Colbert and Maher ; they’ll all tell you to take a flying fu(k on the moon , and rightfully so…….But thanks for your insiginificant contribution anyway , Ms Manners. I would like to think that they would conduct themselves with greater dignity. However, if they were to use such a tone with me, I would more than likely ask them to please refrain from using profanity when speaking to me. If they still continued to speak to me like that, I suspect me and Mr. Colbert or Mr. Maher might need to have a walk, a talk and a looksie.

I think you missed one point I tried to make and that is that the ratings are not exact – I don’t know how they do it, and I really am not interested. I have never been asked what I watch although I have TiVo and I would bet “they” know!

TripleKick 2, I believe you interpret the posts by TP on O’Reilly as attacks. I see them as showing people who don’t watch him (like me) what he says and what his listeners are hearing. His gross errors and misinterpretations have to be countered with the truth.

If he is so dominant and watched by many, would you say he should be truthful?

The Black Man’s Pain as it’s used in this country, stems from the fact that members of their race were enslaved at the inception of this country. That because of that belief system, racism has continued into 2008 – along the way encompassing the Civil rights movement of the 50’s and 60’s

You’ve done a great service here. I’m sure the more reasonable ones — like Juan Williams, Michael Steele and Thomas Sowell, will be grateful to you for pointing out that all their anger stems from the days of slavery, and everything is pretty much hunky dory for those people nowadays. All they’ve got to do is open their eyes, look around, and turn that frown upside down!

    It’s a brand new day!

  186. Hussein McCain says:

    224. Pretty good, but enslaved much prior to the inception of this country. And to be more specific, the “belief system” centers on the belief that Black people are subhuman, as promulgated by the great master Thomas Jefferson.

  187. Nathanhj says:

That headline is just not true.

    I don’t even like Koolaid.

  188. Buckie Boy says:

    Cry_Havoc Says:
Ok guys, I got’s to run. I have a dinner engagement to get ready for

Yeah, your head and your lap.

  189. ralph the wonder llama says:

    pmavrk Says:
I hear Vladimir Lennon calling you “useful idiots” of MoveOn.org and Media Matters.

Don’t drink the Obama Hussein koolaid

I didn’t realize John had a brother. Or is that another son he had with Yoko?

    Cry_Havoc Says:
    ——————————————————————————–

OK Joe, are you accusing me of espionage, or expressing your dissatisfaction with me as a person of power and authority?

I think it’s official: TP has the most moronic trolls on the internet, and if you’ve ever been to News Hounds, thats saying a lot
    tony an dlido

  191. Hawkeye says:

That doesn’t even pass the laugh test. O’Reilly is a bottom feeding buffon and he’ll take himself down sooner or later. Every hear of Woody Hayes? Him and his fascists buddies are so scared reality that only lies and smears will do.

  192. Robt says:

Does Billo have Moveon’s application to the, ” ORielly Chapter of the KKK ” ?

id Billo in fact refuse their joining because they are TOO liberal for his (ORielly’s) KKK Chapter ?

  193. Robt says:

Billo mentions media matters, Daily Kos et al.

So he groups them neatly to dismiss them at once for possible single issue item(s).

Billo gets on every day and tells us that he’s looking out for us or some sort of nonesense like that. That he is scutinizing the media. He always excludes himself from mainstream media. Especially as he condemns media he differs with ideologically and profit wise. For Billo, if you disagree with him and his world view. Then your trash and he is out to create that image of you. This is some of my perspective from watching him and listening to him.

Like Bush and his AXIS OF EVIL. Billo constantly congers this image in his hard core conservative republican loyalist (right or wrong) rituals of sacrifice. And his sacrificing ritual always, Billo’s credibility, honesty, humanity has to die in said sacrifice.

  194. Max-1 says:

    .

    Q U E S T I O N:

WHAT EXPERIENCE DOES O’LIELY HAVE ABOUT THE KKK TO DRAW UPON SO AS TO MAKE SUCH A COMPARRISON?

HOW DOES BILL-DOH KNOW WHAT A KKK MEETING IS LIKE?

    .

  195. republicanSScareme says:

The FCC really needs to yank Fox News’ license for preaching hate crimes.

  196. American Style Fascism says:

Juan Williams? What the Fox are you talking about. Fascism? The difference is that the other networks you mentioned were not repeated time and time and time again as to catapult the propaganda…Obama is a Muslim, Terrorist fist jab, baby, mamma. Wow Juan, you really are being influenced by the Hume. Holy crap.

  197. jerseyboyblue says:

I have two words to say to Mr. O’Reilly. Cognitive dissonance.
