Goodling ‘frowned’ when applicant said he admired Condi Rice: ‘But she’s pro-choice.’

Today’s Justice Department report — which faults department aide Monica Goodling for “violating federal law” through politicized hiring practices — reveals Goodling’s bizarre and thorough way of ensuring she hired only the most tried and true conservatives. Besides asking applicants, “Why are you a Republican?” or “What is it about George W. Bush that makes you want to serve him?”, Goodling also judged applicants by asking them to name public officials they admired:

Several candidates interviewed by Goodling told us they believed that her question about identifying their favorite Supreme Court Justice, President, or legislator was an attempt to determine the candidates’ political beliefs. For example, one candidate reported that after he stated he admired Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Goodling “frowned” and commented, “but she’s pro-choice.”

The report noted that Goodling refused to hire one Assistant U.S. Attorney because she thought he was a “‘political infant’ who had not ‘proved himself’ to the Republican Party by being involved enough in political campaigns.”

  3. republicanSScareme Says:

Monica Goodling is a good example of the dim-wits you get when you hire Republicans.

  4. stateofthedivision Says:

Government of the right kind of people, by the right kind of people, and for the right kind of people. Amazing that we've sunk so low.

This is no doubt Obama's fault.

  9. 5th Estate Says:

So the GOP has it's own 'Monica' now! (h/t to RUC for the inspiration).

The difference is of course that Monica 1 gave the Prez a private blowjob whereas Monica II f**ked the entire country's legal system, and by illegal actions no less!

Gee I just can't figure out which of these two scandals is more important...hmmmm

  10. Hawkeye Says:

At the very least Goodling should be disbarred. This is just disgraceful and un-American on so many levels.

  11. Saint Augustine Says:

How much damage to the country did the servicing of Clinton's prick by his Monica cause, compared to the damage to the country caused by this Monica servicing the prick Bush?

    IMPEACH the MFers

  16. vinylspear Says:

How does the word "unethical" elude her?

Is there any chance she will be prosecuted?

  20. LibertyLover Says:

First of all, she should know that frowning will give her wrinkles and wrinkles don't look good on republican women - republican men tend to replace their women every few years for a younger model.

Secondly, laws don't mean much to these people, do they?

  21. Fred Says:

You guys do know she was trained by Pat Roberson....

One of 150 of pat's fine specimens.

  22. curious Says:

And who is surprised by this? When Goodling was questioned by the committee some months ago, she claimed ignorance regarding what she did. Should the Justice Department really being hiring anyone that dumb? The fact is, a large percentage of lawyers that work there graduate from Christian law schools. The administration has admitted this. Evidently anyone can graduate. You simply have to be conservative.

Goodling was questioned softly, and with apology by Charles Schumer. He was so entranced by her, she was cute, that I thought he was going to come right out and ask for her phone number. He was sooooo, sorry to bother her with these nasty, bothersome questions. She said she wasn't sure or she didn't know so many times, it was like watching a female version of Reagan during the Iran Contra hearing. He couldn't remember.

Once they get into trouble, total amnesia follows. I am always amazed that so many can get hired with the government with such bad memories. How do they get to work? And once there, how do they get anything done from one day to the next? It must be like inventing the wheel every day.

Let's face it, they get hired to be conservative, not smart and not ethical and certainly not constitutional. And when they get caught, the hearings are a joke. No one seems able to ask the right questions in order to obtain the much needed answers. The Congress is stupid. With so many lawyers you would at least think they could figure out a way to keep from getting screwed. And by proxy, us as taxpayers.

  23. RUCerious Says:

curious ~ nice post. And so, sadly, true.

Saint Augustine Says (re 5th Estate):

    Well...shucks...what can I say?
It doesn't reflect genius, just a shared rational perspective.

  25. JMOHR Says:

The real question does not concern the Republicans. It concerns the Democrat party. Will it show the balls to take this to the wall. The DNC should be running massive ad buys in those states that have been targeted by McCain. Obama simply has let McCain and the RNC get away with too much as the most recent shift in the Gallup poll numbers indicate. This should not be a close election. This should be a referendum not only on Bush, but also on the Republicans.

Target key battleground states with an ad showing the corruption of the Republican party. Cunningham, Vitter, Craig, DoJ report, SBA report. Then a simple message: THE REPUBLICAN PARTY, A PARTY OF ARROGANCE, MORAL AND FISCAL CORRUPTION, THE PARTY OF JOHN MCCAIN.

  26. KayInMaine Says:

Monica Goodling has consistently proved she is a reich wing lunatic.

  27. Bluegene Says:

Goodling is nothing more than a foot soldier for the Republican Party.

  28. Saint Augustine Says:

    5th Estate:

How ironic you said rational about our perspective, I've an ex-wifw from another small Penneylvania town, west of Uniontown who is a real nutcase. She used to accuse me of being too rational!

Finding myself married to a lying, petty thief and scam artist made me realize how irrational a man's behavior can be when he thinks with the wrong head.

  29. Winski Says:

Why is the lunatic still free to walk around??

    Shouldn't she be in JAIL???

  30. Doc Rock Says:

Clean out everybody she hired and re-compete the jobs!

  31. Nevar Says:

    Indictments, please.

  32. tuckgraph Says:

They took Goodling's words totally out of context. "Pro-choice" is Republican code word for "lesbian."

  33. Nevar Says:

Oh. I thought it had something to do with her taste (pardon the pun) in shoes.

  34. Max-1 Says:

    .

Monica Goodling is blond and Aryan...
    ... Surprised?

    .

  35. 5150 Says:

I assume this regime fakes ID and credentials for key placements. Monica? O.K. <em>Goodling? Not a chance.

  36. BlackbirdHighway Says:

Well, of course when these people realized that the Democratic. so called, "opposition party" would do absolutely nothing at all to stop or punish anyone, then they knew the had a green light to do whateer they wanted.

Our system of government relies on checks and balances to hold people accountable. What we have are criminals and enablers. The result is entirely predictable.

  37. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello Says:

I'm hugely impressed. No trolls raised the "Clinton did it first!" flag here. Apparently they've reached the level of cognitive disconnect at long last!
Impeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!

  38. continuum Says:

Goodling, Sampson etal break the law and yet suffer no consequence. Does anyone question why Bush etal continue on their corruption and crime spree when no one will spend one day in jail for destroying the Constitution. Impeach Cheney, Bush, Mukasey, and the rest of this crime ridden, venal, corrupt mis Administration now.
