Goodling Screened DOJ Career Candidates For Affiliations With ‘Abortion, Homosexuality, Iraq and WMD’

goodling.jpg According today’s report by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR), former Justice Department lawyer, Monica Goodling conducted detailed “Internet research on candidates for Department positions…designed to obtain their political and ideological affiliations.”

Apparently drawing on her experience conducting opposition research for the RNC, Goodling used a complex LexisNexis search string to screen candidates for affiliations or statements related to conservative flash points. The search string included such affiliations as homosexuality, abortion, and the 2000 Florida recount. This is the search that Goodling entered into the LexisNexis database to research job candidates:

[First name of a candidate]! and pre/2 [last name of a candidate] w/7 bush or gore or republican! or democrat! or charg! or accus! or criticiz! or blam! or defend! or iran contra or clinton or spotted owl or florida recount or sex! or controvers! or racis! or fraud! or investigat! or bankrupt! or layoff! or downsiz! or PNTR or NAFTA or outsourc! or indict! or enron or kerry or iraq or wmd! or arrest! or intox! or fired or sex! or racis! or intox! or slur! or arrest! or fired or controvers! or abortion! or gay! or homosexual! or gun! or firearm!

The OPR found that Goodling obtained this search string from a colleague who used it to screen political appointees. Goodling, however, used it in violation of federal law to screen candidates for career department positions. In addition, Goodling “instructed” a temporary assistant to “use the search string for all candidates she was asked to screen.”

According to the report, Goodling also used “www.tray.com and other web sites to get information about political contributions made by candidates.” She explained in her testimony to Congress, “Normally, if I found something that was negative about someone, we didn’t hire them.”

is this really how the data-mining software is being used?...prolly...

  2. TheRadicalRightisRadicallyWrong Says:

Geez... can we please get just one more story on this before midnight? WE GET IT ALREADY! She is the political tool of this illegal administration Can we please PROSECUTE SOMEONE, ANYONE NOW!!!

  3. RandomChaos Says:

    TRRiRW,
    I second that

  4. RUCerious Says:

OK, to add to RRRW, this sick b!tch needs to find a new home, with solid blue attire, somewhere in Kansas, in a fine residence that sounds something like elevens and worth...

  5. stateofthedivision Says:

I agree with #2, that or do something to prevent the next Bush miscarriage of justice. How about a post on the revolving door of Israeli military chiefs through the Pentagon and White House? That would at least be current information, as opposed to a months old piece written by Defense Secretary Bob Gates.

  6. Dr. Hussein Matt Says:

175 days until herr dubyah and his corrupt criminal administration are gone.

    Can I get an "amen"?

(from Monica's search engine): "...or iran contra or clinton or spotted owl or..."

That does it. Now I'm really pissed!
    Heh.

  8. blue state bob Says:

That "bastion of legal greatness," Regent University, must be so proud.

The fact that someone who went to that barely accredited toilet law school came to such a position in any White House truly tells you all you need to know aboutr this administration

  9. Badmoodman Says:

I've seen just about enough photos and video of this twit today.

  10. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre Says:

Do you believe in the Lord High Bush? Do you believe in WMDs in Iraq? Do you believe in how the votes were counted in Florida in 2000? You do? Welcome aboard.

  11. osage Says:

An employee of the Department of Justice didn't know there were federal hiring laws/guidelines she was legally obligated to follow that every employee who works in every federal, state and municipal government HR department in America is very familiar with? And she did all the hiring without her supervisor or boss knowing what methods she used to determine whom she recommended be hired? And before she testifiend to the Senate Investigation Committee Alberto Gonzales made a point to approach her and inquire how she felt about her upcoming testimony? And the DOJ investigation found no evidence that Gonzales was aware of her screening/hiring practices?

  12. Badmoodman Says:

This is the search that Goodling entered into the LexisNexis database to research job candidates:

    - - That's not LexisNexis. That's ConservaSearch.

  13. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Attorney General Mukasey MUST convene a grand jury, or else he MUST be impeached. Besides refusing to prosecute the contempt citations, he perjured himself at his confirmation hearings when he promised to be independent of the WH.

  14. madmax Says:

...so, she is going to be prosecuted, right?

  15. Bobwurst Says:

Wayne, at least mukasey is taking down shummer's cred too.

  16. Witch1 Says:

#14 Madmax, it look's like they may hand out number's to see who's turn it is, right after the congress send's out more letter's and ask's for proof and paper's to prove the cases they already know about, or maybe not...P, B, & J all

  17. Freedom Rebel Says:

“Normally, if I found something that was negative about someone, we didn’t hire them.”

Such as too liberal, gay, or pro-choice. But you considered
“pro-God in public life" and "admiring President Bush" admirable qualities. So if you are for Gitmo and worship every Sunday, she hired you. Plus, make sure you are not affliated with any organization that might help people in need. She frowns on that also. She is the typical narrow-minded, self-centered conservative.

She is a lawyer and her lame excuse, but I didn’t mean to”. Of course, now she wants everyone to feel sorry for her. Goodling should be disbarred. She should also be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, for being part of the malignate cancer that has spread to every corner of our government.

  18. pete Says:

What I find especially disturbing is that someone had to know some of this information before they granted her immunity. And so long as she was granted immunity and Chimpy holds the pardon card, all she has to do is keep saying "I did it" and the DOJ scandal will end with her. I'm sure Bill0 will help her sell her book.

  19. Buck Says:

    Freedom Rebel Says:

"...Goodling should be disbarred. She should also be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, for being part of the malignate cancer that has spread to every corner of our government."

Amen! And I think they should go after Regent University for turning out this type of POS lawyer.

  20. COProgressive Says:

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

If ever we were to lose our freedoms and liberties and our country, it will be done through the corruption of our Justice system.

When the Justice system is corrupt, we become a lawless oligarchy with "Justice" only for the wealth and powerful.

We see it now with AG Mukasey refusing to act on contempt charges against Bolton, Miers, and Rove. What's going to happen in the next election there should be widespread election fraud that benefits the Repuglicans? Will the Bush selected USA's and Mukasey's "Justice" department lift a finger to defend the Consitiution or will they sit on their hands and let our election system become corrupted too?

  24. pete Says:

On a positive note. Once Bushco tries to escape, I mean hands over power, they will be honor bound to hire all those ex-DOJ lawyers for their defense teams.

I wonder how long the "I don't recall" defense will hold water at the Hague?

  25. misshusseinmolly Says:

OK, OK, TP -- we get the point about Monica Goodling. Although I have to admit the search string was hilarious. And the facial expressions you have managed to obtain of Monica (a different one for each story!) have been equally so.

  26. curious Says:

What are her qualifications to even work in the Justice Department. She is christian, she is a repubican, she has a right wing philosophy. And she is a graduate as many of them are, from Regent law school. A Pat Robertson school.

She had no qualifications to be there. She would not have been hired at any real law firm. Only as a legal aid if that. And look at what she did in the highest law enforcement of the US. She broke the law. She said she served the President. That statement is so horribly warped and the opposite of what the rules state. And the rules do state that the Justice Department is supposed to be independent. To serve the people of the United States, and Justice and the Constitution above all else. The Justice Department is supposed to separate from all politics.

Under each of Bush's attorney general's it has been the total opposite. But even Ashcroft was not as bad as the ones that followed. Monica broke the law. She deserves to pay a penalty. Just for being stupid if for nothing else. She is a bimbo.

The only one who approves of her is Charles Shumer. He enjoyed talking to her. He really did. He smiled a lot. Said he was sorry to worry her. Thanked her for showing up. He should. Not many bother to show up.

  27. Jane E. Schneider Says:

Bravo, curious! I'm ashamed to say that Chuck "Face Time" Schumer is one of my Senators. I'm disgusted with him.

  28. pete Says:

My guess is that Ms. Goodling, as a good Christian Republicriminal, put out like Smokey the Bear at a Kiss concert.

  29. DieNowForPeace Says:

    "Got stupid whore?"

  30. ForTruth Says:

Oh Yeah Nevar, I forgot. She's been given immunity.

How about any other charges due to her immunity?

  31. 5150 Says:

Monica? O.K. Goodling? Like sure, that's not a pseudonym. Her boss and predecessor were out of BYU, Karl Rove had a cadre in the Justice Dept.

  32. vinylspear Says:

The word "Honor" means nothing to these people.

  33. PrahaPartizan Says:

Let's look on the bright side of the corollary of this report. The new administration can use it to demand the resignation of everybody in the DoJ, not just the political appointees under Bush. That way, the DoJ can be cleansed of all of the sleepers planted by Goodling and the rest of the Bush scum. Who would dispute it? The report provides perfect cover for a house cleaning. Too bad we can't extend to all branches of the Federal government.

  34. BlackbirdHighway Says:

This is News? When the Dems decide to do something about this, or anything else for that matter, then THAT would be news.

    Don't hold your breath folks.

I think I'm going to have bumper stickers made up in a nice blue color that say "Vote Enabler Party".

  35. Doc Rock Says:

Now let's see if Mukasey enforces the law and prosecutes.

  36. tokin librul Says:

Our election system is already corrupted. It's how Herr George got in office in 2000 and again in 2004.

And will someone please arrest Monica Goodling?

  41. mattrudy Says:

If only Orwell were alive today. What would he have to say?
