Why? If there is financial incentive, private enterprise could do the job. And if the payoff isn’t enough, perhaps local government could sweeten the deal, with tax incentives.

While Alaska hasn’t voted a dem into the senate since the ’60’s, Alaskan voters will be faced with the possibility of being kicked away from the pork trough for six years, should they elect a republican to his seat, and the senate goes to a 60+ democratic majority.

I too am interested in truth and justice, that’s why I will be watching this trial (and those to follow) closely.
It’s our duty as citizens of a republic to hold our elected officials accountable for their actions… that’s the American way- glad to hear you’re on board, Jim!

He seems awfully concerned that we at TP know what he sees as the truth. Not sure why that is, but he sure is putting a lot of energy into the effort.

You’d think that if he were as confident of Stevens’ innocence as he claims to be, he wouldn’t be trying so hard to convince us (and himself).

Still, I find it puzzling that the DoJ would bring an indictment in a case that was so easily dismantled. I mean, even a simple commenter on a progressive blog can reduce it to dust with his evidence.

And I would question the timing – I don’t believe a sitting Congressman has ever been charged with so little time left before an election.

Meaning what? Mukasey’s responsible, so if there are any shenanigans, it’s by his ok.

When PBS writes articles about a person, that person knows they are truly screwed!

Rep. Ted Stevens (Alaska)sponsored “The Bridge To Nowhere”.

Yet that’s not what screwed him.

The indictment charges Stevens with “falsely reporting hundreds of thousands of dollars in services he received from a company that helped renovate his home.
From May 1999 to August 2007, prosecutors said Stevens concealed ‘his continuing receipt of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of things of value from a private corporation.’”

The senator is being investigated for doling out earmarks to his friends, among other abuses of his public office.

Finally, Bushco is being indicted.

It’s just odd that a Justice Department well-known for its “heavy preference” for prosecuting Democrats should bring such a case against a powerful Republican senator in the middle of a reelection campaign.

We had a troll here some months ago (probably still around) that claimed the Bush Justice Department was persecuting some Republican because they were “obviously” run by Liberals. Boinnnnnng.

Bound to show up and make the same claim about Ted.

Nothing but greed for one, and the middle finger to us all.
