I remember talking to someone before I had kids about how easy childrearing will be. He laughed in my face, as he knew how difficult it really was. I was uninformed.
It occurs to me that if Daryll is telling us how to live our lives ‘better prepared’, he must not have gone through the trials and tribulations which are part of everyones daily existance. If you never experience the challenging issues for yourself, then there are no issues for anybody else.
I think once Daryll goes out on his own and tries to make a living, he will understand what I am saying.

Add in the regressive gas taxes that fund what passes for our highway improvement fund and the regressive sales taxes that most states and localities rely upon for some to most of their tax base and his argument falls flat. In light of the progressive decline of our infrastructure (roads, bridges, dams, etc.) from neglect I am quite willing to tolerate an income tax increase if it helps keep us from having third world services.

My problem with Daryll is how everything is so simple and structured with him, as opposed to real life. He says just do this, and this, and this and you will be fine. It doesn’t work that way, IMHO. I’ve been on the planet 50 years, and very rarely do things come as easily as Daryll would suggest.

When Microsoft’s stock price was at its peak, Bill Gate’s wealth ($100 billion) equaled the wealth of the bottom one half of Americans. The Walton family (Arkansas not Virginia) has $100 billion in wealth. Have they paid too much in taxes? I’ll gladly trade places with any one of them!
