Responding to a report revealing that defense contractor Parsons Corp. received $142 million for Iraqi facilities that were never completed, Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX) took to the House floor Monday to slam the “war profiteers”:
Mr. Speaker, it seems to be this is yet another example of incompetence, waste, and possible fraud against America. If crimes have been committed, the Justice Department needs to prosecute anyone that steals money from America during this time of war. Because the long arm of American law even reaches crooked contractors in Iraq. And where shall we send these people? To the well-built Guantanamo Bay prison where we house war criminals. And that’s just the way it is.
Watch it:
Okay, so, I’m totally against Gitmo. But he’s right!
July 30th, 2008 at 4:37 pmGo Poe! Hey that rhymes…
July 30th, 2008 at 4:39 pmThere you go.
This just proves that even a republican Texan can pick up an acorn once in awhile.
Too bad that republican Texan’s name isn’t GDumbya. He will never pick up an acorn . . . the moron.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:40 pmWonder if he knows some of his buddies would have to go too.
I suspect it’s all
ELECTION YEAR POSTURING.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:44 pmWhile I stand in awe of Representitive Poe’s (R-TX!!!) truly laudable sentiment, It ain’t happenin. This Administration cares for it’s friends. Always has, always will. If there was any justice, Rep. Poe’s wish would be granted. Regrettably, there is no profit, or recompence, in it. One can only wish..
July 30th, 2008 at 4:45 pmImpeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!
Boy, if he can get that much from the Washington Post he should read Think Progress every day.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:46 pmBetter watch what you ask for Poe. If one crooked contractor goes to gitmo, then they all should go to gitmo and that includes Cheney and his buddies from Halliburton and we all know that’s not going to happen.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:48 pm“…the Justice Department needs to prosecute anyone that steals money from America …(and)send these people…(t)o the well-built Guantanamo Bay prison…”
With George WTF and Dick (not because his front name is Richard) the first to go!
July 30th, 2008 at 4:51 pmIf we start sending war criminals and profiteers to Gitmo, they better add another wing….
and get ready for most of Washington’s offices standing empty…
July 30th, 2008 at 4:52 pmWoe… did that come from a Republican? Yeah, send the thieving contractor to Guantanamo. I’m reading a book right now about life at Guantanamo. It certainly isn’t a picnic for the troops can you imagine how bad it is for the prisoners?
July 30th, 2008 at 4:55 pmBook: Inside the Wire by Erik Saar.
Send them to Gitmo and torture them (by that, I mean pipe Limpballs and Little Seanie Insanity’s into their cells 24/7).
July 30th, 2008 at 4:55 pmThis is rich, coming from a Texas Repug. I bet he just sold his shares of Parsons before he said this, too.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:55 pmChimpy leg-humpers wanting to send other Chimpy leg-humpers to Gitmo…?
Uh-oh. Somebody check the temperature in Hell. It may be time for a few double axels.
July 30th, 2008 at 4:57 pmThe responses here are amusing.
Send terrorists to Gitmo? OUTRAGE!
Send an American contractor there? That’s reasonable.
No, that’s not reasonable.
Gulags like Gitmo are bad. They are bad when we send terrorists there, and they would be bad when we send Americans there. The comments here are wrong. There was no “acorn.” There was another outrageous comment by a member of the GOP showing once again that the GOP does not believe that we are nation under law.
That’s the point of the original outrage over Gitmo.
The significance of the Congressman’s comments is his apparent acceptance of the idea that we no longer need fair trials in America for anyone. For him, Gitmo is not the exception for terrorists. For him, Gitmo is for anyone he thinks is bad.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:01 pmBad political theater; but a good gauge of republican desperation.
November’s ‘gonna hurt’em, badly.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:03 pmI certainly agree that fraudulent war profiteers should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. I’m just not sure why Gitmo should be involved. Maybe it’s just become a right-wing euphemism for “harsh punishment”.
… Gee, I sure hope Daryll’s employer doesn’t fall into the category of “fraudulent war profiteer”.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:04 pmGulags like Gitmo are bad. They are bad when we send terrorists there,
Accused terrorists.
You guys always leave that part out.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:06 pm“You guys always leave that part out.”
Who is this “you guys” that you are referring to?
July 30th, 2008 at 5:07 pmTrolls like you, Skeetsbaby. Trolls like you.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:08 pmRalph,
Daryll is busy getting his resume ready for January, when his DoD contract with his employer goes POOF.
Will be interesting to see where he ends up. Maybe working for Regent U or maybe Dobson’s ‘Focus on the Family’ or maybe Ted Haggard’s new church, “A Gay Church for Repugs Who Say They Aren’t Gay”. I heard it has a HUGE following, already.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:08 pmAnnie,
July 30th, 2008 at 5:09 pmYou really are a coward.
If you have an argument, make it. If not, keep quiet.
Don’t just run yelling TROLL!
Pathetic.
I believe Congressman Poe stood by one of his constituents who claimed to have been raped while working for one of the corrupt contractors in Iraq It’s nice to know that there are a few Republicans left with some sense of decency, but they are about as endangered as a species as the polar bear.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:10 pmI can’t speak for Annie, but… go Cheney yourself, troll.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:11 pmWho is this “you guys” that you are referring to?
You know what you are – “and there’s nothing good about what you do” – Cleveland.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:11 pmOooooOOOOoooOOOooh! The troll’s calling me names!!!
I’m askeert!!!
July 30th, 2008 at 5:12 pmdaryllsotherbrogherdaryll Says:
Poe is a strong law and order Republican.
That is like saying ‘a strong non-hypocritical, honest Republican’. Both statements are mutually exclusive.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:12 pmStill waiting for a substantive response.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:12 pmWhy, thank you, Ralph! You’re an officer and a gentleman!!
~A
July 30th, 2008 at 5:13 pmDe nada, Annie. De nada.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:15 pmSkeetie, dear, I’ve made my comment, to wit:
This is nothing more than posturing, frothing and completely faked outrage by a Chimpy leg-humper – a performance meant, no doubt, to impress the sheeple during an election year, when more than likely he’ll be facing a difficult campaign.
Any questions…?
July 30th, 2008 at 5:16 pmSkeeter1 Says:
Still waiting for a substantive response.
Why did you frame it that way?
“Terrorists?”
And not accused terrorists? Your comment betrays a certain lack of subtlety, and of Rightist thought.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:16 pmPerhaps that wasn’t clear:
Your choice of words indicates Rightist thought-constructs.
Clearer?
July 30th, 2008 at 5:18 pmThe significance of the Congressman’s comments is his apparent acceptance of the idea that we no longer need fair trials in America for anyone.
Brilliant deduction. People have been saying this for a long time. Unfortunately, this IS the republican attitude towards Gitmo. Fair trial in Gitmo? LOL
The thieves and fraudsters should be prosecuted and then they should be telling us exactly how it happened and then those that helped it happen should be prosecuted. Of course, this won’t happen because we all know who gave out the no bid contracts so we all know who facilitated the fraud against Americans.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:20 pmbarfly,
I haven’t drunk the Kool-Aid. I don’t repeat my scripted lines.
I thought the left was different than the right.
While the right wants to repeat Rush word for word, I thought the left didn’t have to be mimics.
Sometimes deleting the word “accused” is shorthand. Not repeating your phrase book word for word doesn’t mean I believe they are all guilty. It means that sometimes I don’t include a word.
The response for not repeated a word? A witch hunt. People here are so concerned about “TROLLS” and “CHENEY” that they forgotten about “DEBATE” and “IDEAS.”
The idea here that any contrary idea — contrary in any way to the established line — is met with TROLL, is really pathetic. You are the McCarthys of the left.
I thought yelling about dissent was what the right did.
Every time I start to feel superior about being a member of the Democratic Party, I come here for a reminder that some people who may well also be Democrats can be as thoughtless, ignorant and rude as those on the right. It is great for perspective.
Now go back to your KoolAid. Go back to quashing any dissent.
And don’t bother reading my full comments, since that may actually cause you to question some of your beliefs. It might cause you do to more than recite a line. And I’m sure that Ralph and Annie are incapable of doing that sort of thing.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:26 pmSkeeter,
I remember you and your right-wing ravings from as far back as 2007 on the Air America comment boards. You are fooling NO ONE.
No fair trials? I do believe Poe said: “If crimes have been committed, the Justice Department needs to prosecute anyone that steals money from America during this time of war.” See that word there? Yeah, the one spelled P-R-O-S-E-C-U-T-E. That means he’s talking about bringing them to COURT to see “if crimes were committed.”
I agree that Gitmo should be closed and that it is a blight on America, but seriously Skeets, go fu(k yourself, you’re not fooling anyone.
So that would be why Mukasey refuses to enforce any subpoenas issued by Congress? So that would be why Mukasey refuses to enforce any contempt citations issued by Congress? So that would be why Bush pardoned Scooter Libby after he was found guilty of Perjury? So that would be why, anytime anyone tries to exercise any oversight on this Administration they cry “Executive Privilege” even when the claim is laughable? So that would be why John McCain has stated he would not investigate any of the possible crimes committed by members of the Bush Administration if he became President?
You are a JOKE.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:29 pmClearly Rep. Poe is not one of our Congress members to receive any of the many thousand dollars in Parsons’ campaign contributions. While Parsons’ cash has gone to both sides of the aisle, they predictably skew Republican.
-AF
July 30th, 2008 at 5:29 pmSkeets,
July 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pmJust to jog your memory, you might remember me. Back then my moniker was Vicariously I Live.
Liberal Traitor,
July 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pmYou are out of your mind.
I’ve never HEARD of any Air America board.
Now crawl back into your spider hole.
Uh huh, right, sure.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pmAnd a Repug Troll
is I say, to wit:
Nothing but mouth
July 30th, 2008 at 5:32 pmaround a brain of suet.
Since when did Skeeter pretend to be a Democrat?
Do you have to apply for a new classification from Troll Central when you make a shift like that?
July 30th, 2008 at 5:33 pmIgnore Skeets everyone, he’s just playing the fake ‘concerned Democrat’ game. Last year he was supposedly a Black Republican who sounded a whole lot like Daryll at times.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:34 pmHi Skeeter1:
July 30th, 2008 at 5:35 pmWanna debate some ideas?
Anyway, back to the task at hand:
Agreed with Poe on the first half of the above quote paragraph.
Not so much agreed on the second half.
Enough said. Unfortunately, besides it being a Republican saying it, there’s not much new here. Yet another corrupt contractor ripping us all off.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:35 pmRalph,
July 30th, 2008 at 5:36 pmThanks for that last comment. You’ve effectively made my point of 5:26.
I win.
Good, you think you’ve won something. So go celebrate somewhere, preferably in the middle of a busy street.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:37 pmdaryllsotherbrogherdaryll Says: “…Republicans do not hesitate to go after Republicans when justified by the law and the facts…”
July 30th, 2008 at 5:08 pm
What a pile of crap! BTW, better do a spell-check on your screen name, “brogher”. Jeez, you can’t spell, but you sure can lie! I guess that’s all that counts with Republiskunks.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:40 pmTo the well-built Guantanamo Bay prison where we house war criminals.
And that would be justice well served. I find it embarrassing that it is a Republicon who is making a stink about this contractor fraud. Why aren’t the Democrats going after these contractors. They have all stolen money from us and they should have to pay it back and people should go to jail. If nothing is done about all the war profiteering, it does nothing other than to encourage unscrupulous administrations from starting new wars to feed their war profiteering coffers.
July 30th, 2008 at 5:41 pmWhat’d ya win?
July 30th, 2008 at 5:41 pmSo do you wanna pick the topic? I like to offer a handicap to those in need…
Go get’em Teddy Tiger! Take a BIG bite outta crime!
July 30th, 2008 at 5:41 pmEven a stopped watch is yadda yadda yadda
July 30th, 2008 at 5:44 pmI see Skeeter is buying into the “rules of the game” that one of yesterday’s trolls tried to sell — who was it? Tracy5 maybe? — anyway, one of ‘em yesterday made a claim and then declared it proven. “Done,” it said. No evidence, no argument even, just declared it proven.
Skeets is playing the same game, and apparently, he’s just “won”, simply by declaring it so.
“Won” what, no one seems to know. But, if it’ll keep Skeets gloating quietly to himself in the corner, I’m all for it.

Little kids do the same thing. “Ha ha, I win! I touched the tree first! Too bad you thought it was the next tree. I win!”
July 30th, 2008 at 5:48 pmRead my comments and read the responses.
I’ve proven my point.
It continues to amaze me that people here are more concerned with TROLLS than with TRUTH.
How absolutely pathetic.
Now go back to your “Find the Troll” game. You all make fine McCarthites.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:00 pmLittle kids do the same thing. “Ha ha, I win! I touched the tree first! Too bad you thought it was the next tree. I win!”
Well, that makes sense as Bush simply declared “Mission Accomplished” and that was that – then 4000+ more soldiers died. He declared we won – so I guess we won?
The right side is good with jingoistic words and flag pins; our national security – not so much.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:09 pmIf you say so, Skeets…
Hey, everybody! Skeeter says he’s proven his point again! Let’s all congratulate him!
Skeets, we just know that if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck…
July 30th, 2008 at 6:10 pmThis is a well known and documented pattern of behavior.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:19 pmIt’s been going on for a long time now.
After an illegal war started with lies that’s sold and covered and drawn out by the msm has run it’s course, they come across with, “we should have been more objective in the run up to the war” or “there’s been war profiteering, we just didn’t see it coming” or “we knew there were no wmds, but we’re sure we did the right thing”, as if admitting they’d made mistakes somehow makes it okay. Unfortunately, the liars never seem to pay the price that they’ve done the bargaining for.
That childish “I won” crap was a hallmark of Mr. P. How many names does he have?
July 30th, 2008 at 6:23 pmSkeeter: I am rubber, you are glue – what I say sticks to you!!!!
Neener neener neener!!!
Time for your nap, Skeetie. You’re getting cranky.
July 30th, 2008 at 6:56 pmAdmittedly, I would like to see the profiteers hang high. Don’t forget KBR, Cheney, and Shrub !
Admittedly, I’m against GITMO / extraordinatry rendition / etc.
But When did the mission of Gitmo expand from terrorists to include war criminals. Tomorrow will it also house those who forgot to put the cap back on the toothpaste ?
July 30th, 2008 at 7:16 pmLet me guess. He’s running for re-election.
July 30th, 2008 at 7:49 pmWell, it didn’t take long for the new troll to show his true colors.
As for Poe’s comments, it’s nice to see a Republican finally gather enough outrage to want to hold someone accountable.
Too bad he still 1) is not aiming high enough, and 2) doesn’t realise Guantanamo, as it stands today, should not remain open.
July 30th, 2008 at 9:45 pm.
If I may suggest…
That T.P. also review the clips from CSPANJUNKIEdotORG regarding the non-impeachment impeachment hearings that seem to go unreported…
Just suggesting.
.
July 31st, 2008 at 12:56 amI think the deal is, Skeeter, that you came in on comment 14, saying:
The responses here are amusing.
Send terrorists to Gitmo? OUTRAGE!
Send an American contractor there? That’s reasonable.
No, that’s not reasonable.
.. and you continued to make a perfectly valid point, but the thing is… before your comment, only two comments of the previous 13 can be construed in any remote way to have said “That’s reasonable.” Those were comment #2, which basically just said “Go Poe… hey that rhymes!”, and #3, about Poe finding an acorn.
2 comment out of 13, none which actually said it was reasonable, but might have implied it (or not, actually).
So if you had responded specifically to those two posts when making your otherwise valid point, you probably wouldn’t be considered so much a troll, as when you try to twist that into an indictment against the whole board by saying, “the responses here are amusing”.
So try that next time, and see if it helps. Maybe I’m wrong, though.
July 31st, 2008 at 8:23 amMr. Squirrel,
While I understand your point, I also read several more of the comments to be “pro-Gitmo for people we don’t like.” The first five (which were the ones that were up when I started to type my comment, if I recall) had that idea.
That being said, I am amused by the “TROLL” banter here.
There really is a witchhunt.
If people read my comments, other than bashing the troll-bashers (and my “alleged” oversight), the work is pretty clearly the work of somebody who doesn’t have a high opinion of the GOP.
I also don’t have much use for witch-hunts either though, and I will continue to bash those who engage in that practice. It makes people on my side look, to quote Animal House, “worthless and weak.”
People on this forum need to rise above that sort of stuff. Stop worrying about identifying “trolls” and start arguing the merits of a position.
