Rep. Sessions held fundraiser at Vegas strip club.

The Washington Post reports that Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) held a fundraiser last year at a strip club in Las Vegas. The party was hosted by Monica Notzen, a “Republican consultant who plans parties like this for lawmakers.” In an interview last December, Sessions maintained that the events were a “burlesque show” and not a “strip club” because “she never gets naked.”

sessions3.jpgSESSIONS: That’s right, we do a Las Vegas fundraiser every year and not only raise money, but see Las Vegas. It’s a beautiful town.

Q:: Forty Deuce is a strip club.

SESSIONS: You know, I’ve never seen that. It is what I would call a burlesque show where there’s a woman who comes out and has a dress on… Uh, she never get’s naked. There’s no nudity, there’s no nudity in there.

As John Aravosis notes, Sessions “scolded Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake for forcing ‘their liberal values upon the rest of the country’ after their infamous 2004 Super Bowl halftime striptease.” According to federal disclosures, Sessions spent more than $5,000 at the club that night.

Wow $5,000 in one night ! I for one feel there is nothing wrong with raising money wherever. It is about time we legalize all sorts of sexual entertainment. Let them pay taxes just as we boring citizens do.

“Liberal values” means open-minded and freedom of expression , while “conservative values” mean self-hatred and hypocrisy.

  7. bob hussein lablah says:

Well, remember…having your clothes removed and being naked are not necessarily the same thing (just like at Gitmo).
Does it make you any less of a pig either way?

    # 4 Uhmmm actually the FCC run by Colin Powell’s son had alot to do with the Jackson fiasco, well along with some group that were outraged at the 1/19th second of boob being shown. Good grief, the kids probably see more at school than anyone did in that 1/19th second.

  9. texaslady says:

No, conservative values = imposing your views on others, wanted or not.

My last trip to Vegas for a business conference this past March was quite intriguing.
My plane was scheduled to leave Saturday morning at 6am, which meant I had to be on the shuttle at 4am, which meant I got to watch the throngs of people entering and leaving the Venetian hotel.
Let’s just say, there were alot of well dressed but average looking middle age men with one, sometimes two very glamorous scantily dressed ladies with them.
Me thinks that Sessions was not spending $5000 on a burlesque show, unless said show has multiple happy endings!

  13. misshusseinmolly says:

Sessions can spin all he wants, but I really don’t care whether it was a strip club or a burlesque club, and I really don’t care where he chooses to raise money (I care more about where the money is coming from, not so much where it changes hands).

That said, I find his weasel words more disturbing than his fundraising, and I find it especially galling that he claims that the famous “wardrobe malfunction” had anything to do with liberal values. It had everything to do with a calculated publicity stunt, which is a marketing ploy, not a political one. And marketing is a neutral value, not a liberal or a conservative one.

Today’s Republican Party, as exemplified by Mr. Sessions, is a freak show of hate-filled sociopaths, immoral religious and social extremists, insecure, overcompensating, irresponsible, dangerously incompetent, war-mongering imperialists and greedy, exploitive corporate anarchists. Just look at the odious and inadequate carnival barkers and snake oil salesmen the Republican Party had competing to be their presidential candidate. Republicans tacitly welcome homophobes, misogynists, racists, anti-Semites and messianic fundamentalist nut jobs into their party and inherently incorporate their values into their moral fabric and political objectives. Being a child of poverty raised with four younger siblings by a single mom, I’ve never agreed with social conservatives, but compared to Bush’s Republican Party, Eisenhower’s Republican Party was a liberal bastion of social and economic enlightenment and pluralism. Defending the actions of today’s Republican Party is advocating ignorance and evil over common sense and common decency. It would be hard to imagine that any presidential administration, Republican or Democrat, could have been as malicious, polarizing, undemocratic, corrupt or destructively pernicious to the founding causes and defining principles of our republic than George W. Bush’s. I am surprised that I am ashamed for the “good” Republicans, only because I could not have possibly imagined how “bad” some Americans were capable of being.

No, they watch football to see steroid raged, millionaires beat the snot out of each other moving a leather ball down the field.

How about the fact that Sessions is a hypocrite for saying one thing, then doing another – or is that ok for some?

  20. Marie says:

    IOKIYAR

So Hollywood and liberals have so corrupted our morals that Sessions had no choice but to attend a strip club — where no one was nude, of course.
Records show he spent $5,000 in one night — that was a helluva lot of drinks and cover charge — Betcha he goes to church too and joins in with those condemning the loose morals of today.

  22. Oval12345678 aka James K. Sayre says:

The google image search for Forty Deuce showed no actual nudity. The Forty Deuce website says:

“Ivan Kane’s Las Vegas Night Clubs
This Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino nightclub feels even more back-alley than the original that inspired it, discreetly hidden just off the casino floor. The dancers strut and shake in front of the world-famous curtain of pearls, Las Vegas adult entertainment the way it was meant to be. “Hand-picked by Ivan Kane himself, these girls are some of the best dancers from around the world.” Ivan Kane’s Forty Deuce puts the “tease” back into the Strip! Between shows, celebrity deejays play the hottest music in town and it’s dancing ’til dawn in the hippest Las Vegas night club around.”

It sounds like just a place old-timey up-tight Republicans can go and feel sinful… a burlesque show is something that even John McCentury could enjoy.

Methinks that this is just another TP tempest in a teapot…

  23. ebbAndflow says:

daryllsotherbrogherdaryll: Question ~ what is a “brogher”?

As stated 1/19 of a second “wardrobe malfunction” isn’t the problem – it’s the total hypocrisy of these “moral, upstanding, citizens” like Sessions.

  24. RantingTommy says:

  28. RantingTommy says:

Right wingers are so scared of anything sexual, even a millisecond glimpse of a tiny fraction of a boob sends them into moralizing tailspins.

The question is: how could they stand to look at the Boob-in-Chief for so long?

  29. texaslady says:

Sessions like other politicians play to the crowd that is sending the checks. A few years ago it was the moral majority, however, they, thank goodness are losing their pull. We may get back to to normal one day.

Not sure the laws in Vegas but know in many places full nudity is illegal – many others don’t allow nudity in places that sell liquor. Just because the girls ain’t naked doesn’t mean it’s not a strip club and having many friends who do burlesque for real and others who do “burlesque” I can tell you the name is often used as a way of making stripping seem more “artful.”

On a side note, Vegas is an awful place. Commercialism, greed, vacant gaudy exhibitionism and decadence all wrapped around selling a dream of lavish living to drain folks of their savings in hopes of striking it rich. Basically, a symbol of everything wrong with our mindset in this country. I wish what happen in Vegas stayed there but sadly it’s everywhere now and our economic situation is proof the dealers are still stacking the odds in their favor.

  43. StratRat says:

    Why the gay bashing?

Because Session exemplifies what is so hypocritical about the GOP, that’s why. Larry Craig, caught in a bathroom seeking sex with another man, but he’s not gay? Craig Vitter caught with hookers, and then he pens legislation to protect children from sexual predators?

Why would he have to disclose the $5000 dollars? Were those taxpayer dollars he was spending? Campaign money? Did he spring for any extra attention?

  47. StratRat says:

None in this case. The $5,000 was spent to rent out the entire club for the night. Plus, if you look at the link someone provided above, they do not do lap dances and they wear far more than pasties. You would see more at the typical Florida beach.

Just because it is not on the public menu, doesn’t mean the meal is unavailable. You just have to ask – and pay – the proper person in the club. A lady’s got to earn a living somehow, right?

Soooo, not a strip club, but the women dance and take off their clothes. OK, I can see how a Republican would make that distinction for another Republican.

And as someone else noted, Sessions still wouldn’t want his daughter working there.

The report clearly states that no law was broken.

Hypocrisy is not a law – but it should be.

But if the law was broken it would still be ok with you. We know no republican can disappoint you.

  88. pete says:

Note the dull eyes? The listless expression? The inability to comprehend their native language. The smell?

Clear signs of advanced trollism. A chronic disease which can only be treated by contact with happy, healthy, people. And, since trolls avoid contact with happy, healthy, people? It’s all too often terminal.

  89. texaslady says:

Pete – how would you like to run moneymaking business, own land, get paid buckets each week and NEVER PAY A DIME ! Plus you influence your payers what to think and how to vote. Because of course all preachers have God’s ear and can get his believers into that wonderful heaven, that no one knows exists !
Again, conservatives pay for favors…prostitutes get paid who is the John.

  90. Shayne says:

Faux Daryll, call it what you want, it still isn’t a bake sale. Are you so stupid that you don’t see the hypocrisy of this man.

That’s you Mr. P isn’t it, adapting your name from other posters? In that case, yes, you are that stupid.

  91. Wayne says:

    daryllsotherbrogherdaryll Says:

    To summarize Wayne’s post:

IOKIYAD…. and of course, there’s always Wayne’s classic:

“Carter was not President in 1980.”

    BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Now I know who you are troll.
And you are a lying POS, because I never said carter was not president in 1980.
    lying f-ckwit.

  92. pete says:

Who claimed Sessions broke a law? I merely stated that Sessions is a hypocrite and, as such, despicable.

  93. Bozo The Neoclown says:

I dunno about the rest of you folks but, going to strip clubs isn’t part of the “traditional family values” of my family or, any family that I know up here in liberal Connecticut.

  94. Wayne says:

    TripleKick 5 Says:

    Wayne, Pete
The report clearly states that no law was broken. Your theory is all wet.

Hypocrisy is a law? Maybe a secret Republican rule that to be one you have to be a hipocrite.

Wow these trolls are total idiots

  95. Shayne says:

And every day Triplethehick, my daughter has to see commercials about erectile dysfunction so big pharma can make their billions. And it’s not up to you to decide it’s up to his voters to decide whether they want a representative you raises money on the backs of mostly naked women. I for one would not vote for a neandrethal that raised money that way.

  96. texaslady says:

Ok family show ? Would that be along with boxing ? Who can maime the other side the most ? I like football, but lets be real not exactly family fare. Is Sessions a hypocrit well pretty much what we expect from any conservative republican so whats the surprise.

  97. StratRat says:

    TripleKick 5 Says:

    paleolib
On Live TV Jannet Jackson flashed millions of families without warning as they were watching a family show. Attending a fundraiser at a non-nude burlesque club event is hardly cause for concern.

And if I remember correctly, it was Michael Powell – Colin Powell’s son – who made the big stink about the costume malfunction. I also recall the fine got thrown out recently.

Micheal Powell has the same repressed issues you seem to have.

  98. texaslady says:

Shayne is right, more commercials and daytime soaps have more nudity or just inappropriate material for youngsters than JJ’s 1/19th second. Sessions just forgot who was paying his under the table cash.

  99. StratRat says:

The GOP is concerned about all the sex they are not having, only to focus on those who do have sex.

I think they call that creepy.

    What say you TK (1-infinity)?

  100. Bozo The Neoclown says:

Trippie, can you provide a link to the article stating bill clinton held a fundraiser at a strip club?

  101. pete says:

Somehow, I don’t think James Dobson would approve. Of course, he would be overjoyed if every church in the country had a casino night to support the GOP, so, his judgment is suspect.

  102. livelongandprosper says:

    LOL It’s Clinton’s fault again.

TripleKick, go to dictionary.com and lookup hypocrite.

  103. Wayne says:

    TripleKick 5 Says:

    Wayne
Stop foaming at the mouth and try to keep up.

    foaming at the mouth?
Actually I have been laughing my a$$ off at your idiocy.

And I am still laughing at your silly ignorant a$$.

  104. StratRat says:

Tell me, did you ever vote for Bill Clinton? Just curious how solid your convictions are.

Private vs. public; Clinton had no particular stance on morality vs. Sessions being a GOP hypocrite.

Hmmm, I wonder if TK is truly that dense to offer us this strange question? Seems so.

  105. Bozo The Neoclown says:

The latest incarnation of dribblydick is 100% correct. The superbowl is a family friendly event- just count the number of beer commercials featuring women with their boobs hanging out of a bikini. yup, it’s a regular ward and june cleaver moment it is.

  106. StratRat says:

    TripleKick 5 Says:

    texaslady
Are you seriously going to say that the SuperBowl is not a family friendly show? American culture much?

TK…The wardrobe malfunction was a malfunction. How can you honestly compare a costume failure with a planned, paid for, well attended, strategic fund raiser at an obvious ‘mens club’. These are incompatible comparisons. One is not like the other.

  107. dbadass says:

    TripleKick5:
The superbowl lasts less then 10 minutes of actually playing time at best. It is mostly an example of US corporate marketing. The commercials far out value the “sport”. The titty thing is what was remembered not the thicknecks running a 3 second play before taking a breather. I think you might grow by seeking some insights other than “American Culture”. Bud Light man I am guessing…

  108. Bozo The Neoclown says:

dribbledick, let me get this straight- when a man and a woman have consentual sex as is the case with clinton, it’s a bad thing.

Whereas when the woman gets PAID ie. a stripper, it’s a defendable?

  109. pete says:

Wayne, one must always remember that we are dealing with entities who BELIEVE anyone posting on a blog called Think Progress is a “librul”.

One just can’t expect much from the bottom fifth of the curve.

  110. pete says:

    Bozo The Neoclown Says:

    July 30th, 2008 at 4:22 pm

Only for the perpetuation of the GOP. ANYTHING is defensible when it perpetuates the party.

  111. Bozo The Neoclown says:

    Pete;
Somehow it does not surprise me 99% of republicans currently in offices are whores

  112. Bozo The Neoclown says:

dribbledick- prostitution isn’t illegal in nevada either so, if sessions stopped by a whorehouse while he was there it would be alright, correct?

  113. Wayne says:

    TripleKick 5 Says:
However, my question is whether Mr. Self-Righteous, high-standards Shaynerd

    Shayne is a she, Einstein.

    Psst, still lmao at you

The idiot troll does not seem to have the mental facilities to understand hypocrisy.

  115. Bozo The Neoclown says:

soooooo, dribbledick let me get this straight: it’s morally correct for someone who touts being a proponent of “traditional family values” to be married and go to a strip club?

A simple “yes” or “no” will suffice for an answer.

    Thanks

  116. dbadass says:

Anytime I hear any bullshit about “family values” my closet pervert radar goes off. These uptight freaks are always the ones with the weirdest ideas regarding sexuality.

  117. dbadass says:

    Hi Triplekick5:
Might you entertain a simple request?

  118. Bozo The Neoclown says:

dibblydick, t’s simple, really. Please explain to us how going to a strip club is part of “traditional family values”?

OOOOhhhhhhhh, that’s right, you already explained that to me, it’s a sham!
    TripleKick 5 Says:
“if Sessions wasn’t married than I wouldn’t care if he went to a legal brothel. Not my thing but whatever.”

  119. Marie says:

I think triplekick 5 must indicate the number of times he’s been kicked in the head — he just doesn’t understand the concept of hypocrisy.
Dems don’t care about your private sex life with a consenting adult, (your wife, your mistress, your call girl, your boyfriend), who you see for entertainment, if you pay or get it for free, or what ever floats your boat (so to speak).
What is so ridiculous is that the “family values” party, the party who has claimed religion as their own exclusive purview, who believe they and they alone know their god’s wishes, who want to tell me and everyone else who we can wed, sleep with, how and when, where we seek entertainment, what we do with another consenting adult, and more often than not, THEY are the ones who violate their own “rules.”
It’s the hypocrisy. Duplicity. Insincerity. Fakery.
Say one thing and do another.
    Get it?

  120. texaslady says:

Tripple – Football along with boxing will go the way of gladiators one day. When we all have progressed intelligently. Purposely hurting your opponent, no, I don’t see the merit in my kids winning that way. Oh and lets not forget the injuries starting in highschool to young bodies.
But hey, you enjoy it, have at it but a 1/19th second of skin versus brutality no even close.

  121. texaslady says:

Sessions along with this whole administration are lying, hypocrits, it is the norm for them. But where are the Bozell Family Values people when their leader sends 4000 men and women to die for lies ? Outrage over skin but nothing for the lives of our military. THAT IS TOTAL HYPOCRISY !

  122. pete says:

And we mustn’t forget the souls of several hundred-thousand innocent Iraqis, screaming for vengeance. Bushco has created a blood debt that may never be repaid in full.

    Gambling is a SIN!
(Unless you lose your money to God — at our church.)

  124. StupidGit says:

    Wayne,

Thanks for the info on Vegas law. Funny, that’s about the only thing good I’ve heard about Vegas. Legalization of prostitution is about the only way to protect the women who fall into that career. Otherwise they’re at the mercy of “pimps” and the streets.

  125. Badger says:

Hypocracy is the issue. Focus on your OWN damn Family!

  126. ucsbclassics53 says:

I’m sure the good senator was busy preaching the Bible in the strip bar…after all you have to reach out to “sinners” instead of preaching to the choir /snark

  127. ucsbclassics53 says:

and I’m sure $5,000 brought in a lot of lap dances so the senator and his cronies could recite Bible verses to them…

  128. ucsbclassics53 says:

    up close and personal…

  129. stateofthedivision says:

Sessions spent more than $5,000 at Kane’s club that night in March, according to federal disclosures. Those reports show Sessions spent another $2,100 on his hotel.

Officially, Pete Sessions’ leadership PAC picked up the tab, but just days before the party at Forty Deuce, casino interests donated $5,000 to his PAC. Payday lenders threw in another $2,500.

Gopers are just as into sex as anyone else. They just play their stupid base, who laps it all up. Like a dog returning to its own vomit.

  132. wizard2000 says:

    A righteous Republican lapdog getting a lap-dance?

Wow. I’m lapping this up. It almost shows a human side to these righteous Republican lapdogs. Almost.

Hmmm, I wonder if this $5,000 bill for this night of wild Republican abandon involved 5,000 $1.00 bills?

(Actually, I have nothing against “strip clubs” of any sort, especially since we know that the societies that produced the 9/11 killers don’t allow such naughty venues to exist. In other words, if ever anyone outlaws “strip clubs” in America, we will all know that we no longer exist as a freedom-loving democracy, but have been subverted into some type of totalitarian tyrannical right-wing religious dictatorship, run by insane people like those in the al Qaeda leadership. Heaven forbid!!!)

  133. Evil Spaniard says:

Uh, she never get’s naked. There’s no nudity, there’s no nudity in there.

She kept a garter to attach the 100 dollar bills.
