(Just like Tim McGraw) All you know is that he plays country music and you stereotype him as a member of the clan. I’ve always lived in the South and have learned to tolerate, and often really like, a lot of Country music. When Toby Keith is singing about man/woman relationships, he can be funny, tender, and quite moving, depending on the song. It’s only when he gets political that he sucks, spouting jingoistic nonsense.
I suspect most Country records are bought by women. Country songs about women are almost never about promiscuity or love-’em-and leave-’em, like a lot of hip-hop and rock songs are. They are quite often about how one man loves one woman, and will never mistreat her or leave her. Wishful thinking? Maybe, but listen to Country radio one afternoon and you’ll see what I mean.
That said, Toby Keith is still a jerk.

Let’s dissect this somewhat bizarre post.

First, what makes you think that ThinkProgress is a “white” website? I look at the people who run the site and I see a rather racially diverse bunch: http://thinkprogress.org/about/

Second, it’s not that we believe that a white person cannot know anything about people of another race, it’s that when we see a person treat all members of a different race as a monolithic group, we see that person proudly displaying their ignorance. Black people, like white people (or any other race of people), are individuals and think independently.

I have never revealed my own race on this site, and I’m not about to now. But I will say that I look through my circle of closest friends and they are black, white, Asian, and biracial. They are also Christian, Muslim, agnostic, and atheist. They are my friends for a variety of reasons — including their intelligence, their compassion, their shared values with me, and that we all have a lot in common. Such as that we pretty much all think Toby Keith should keep his mouth shut on subjects of which he knows nothing.
