Bachmann Lies: Claims Democrats Won’t ‘Pass The Tax Credit For Solar And Wind’ After GOP Blocked It

bachmann.jpgDuring an interview with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) today, right-wing radio host Laura Ingraham asserted that Congressional Democrats “are acting as the ultimate obstructionists” on energy policy. Bachmann agreed, saying that “this is mission accomplished for them” because they don’t want to “increase American energy resources.”

Declaring that the Congressional Democrats are “so strange,” Bachmann then claimed that they wouldn’t “pass the tax credit for solar and wind,” despite being “the big solar/wind people”:

BACHMANN: Oh, without a doubt, without a doubt. What we want to do is accomplish the people’s mission, which is open up every source of energy there is. They’re so strange Laura, they won’t even pass the tax credit for solar and wind right now. I mean, they claim to be the big solar/wind people, they won’t even pass that.

Listen here:

Bachmann’s claim about who blocked “the tax credit for solar and wind” is flatly false. Just yesterday, the AP reported that “for the fourth time this summer” Senate conservatives blocked action on legislation that would provide “tax credits to an array of renewable energy entrepreneurs”:

For the fourth time this summer Republicans stopped the Senate from taking up wide-ranging legislation that extends tax breaks for teachers, businesses and parents and provides tax credits to an array of renewable energy entrepreneurs. [...]

The bill would extend some $18 billion worth of renewable energy tax credits, helping out investors in wind and solar power, clean coal, plug-in electric vehicles and a variety of others.

In fact, when the House passed the Renewable Energy and Job Creation Act of 2008 in May, Bachmann voted against it, along with the majority of House Republicans. The bill was then filibustered by Senate Republicans in June.

What’s truly “so strange” is that Bachmann can act as an ex post facto advocate for legislation she actively opposed.

Transcript:

INGRAHAM: Now, we see that Democrats are acting as the ultimate obstructionists.

BACHMANN: Yes.

INGRAHAM: They don’t, they don’t want to do anything the American people clearly are showing that they want.

BACHMANN: This is their mission. This is mission accomplished for them. They’re doing exactly what they want to do, which is do not increase American energy resources, whether it’s natural gas, coal or oil. They want none of it.

INGRAHAM: And so, and the Republican, right, the Republican Party right now, is saying, you proceed down these lines, we are not going to allow you, or do everything we can in our power, to stop votes on other bills that you want. Is that what’s going on?

BACHMANN: Oh, without a doubt, without a doubt. What we want to do is accomplish the people’s mission, which is open up every source of energy there is. They’re so strange Laura, they won’t even pass the tax credit for solar and wind right now. I mean, they claim to be the big solar/wind people, they won’t even pass that.

INGRAHAM: Now why are they not doing that?

BACHMANN: We don’t know. It is no energy any of the time. We are for all energy all of the time. Cause the crux of this issue is whether or not we will make it legal to access American energy. We’re the only country in the world that makes it illegal to access our own energy supply, hence we are 70 percent dependent on foreign oil and will be 80 percent in the next decade if we don’t change course.

Bachmann lives in some sort of weird fantasy world inhabited by the 23%ers and trolls….

Bimbo Bachmann is an embarrassment to the entire state of Minnesota . . . even those who reside outside her district. She’s our version of Katherine Harris.

  5. StratRat says:

All ya got to know about this dimwitted broad is that it was her who grabed onto Bush during the SOTU address, and she wouldn’t let go of him until he hugged her.

Poor little Bachmann; bless her heart.

She is blaming dems for legislation she actively scorned. Strange indeed…

  6. Bob says:

Since losing the majority in Congress, republicans have done nothing but obstruct everything, but democrats are the ultimate obstructionists? WTF?

As usual, republicans can only blame the democrats and now they’re not even being subtle about lying through it all.

How do they continue to lie without any consequences?

What’s really funny is that her hubby is a “psychologist” (I believe he includes Regent U in his academic “qualifications”) who offers “Christian centered counseling” and infers he can “cure the gay”! Which amuses me no end in light of the fact that if either ever stepped foot in a real psychiatric facility, the would be committed until they agreed to take their meds. After a few seconds of video it doesn’t take an expert to realize they are both bat-scat crazy.

Whew. That’s getting close to toxic levels of irony right there.

Can you really call it lying when the speaker is clinically insane? OTOH this is the flip side of Bush & McBush first opposing then trying to take credit for the Webb GI Bill.

They may have an active recruitment program, but I’m inclined to believe that when it comes to the Republican Party and bullshit, they’re known as the place to go.

  13. stateofthedivision says:

The proper term would be the “House of Representatives” or “Congress” won’t pass the tax credit for solar or wind. Democrats are one of the two major parties in each chamber.

As for mental health diagnosis add:

    Narcissist-George W. Bush
    Sociopath-Richard P. Cheney

Both require blind loyalty from followers, with the minor difference being, George W. has the smallest capability for empathy. Cheney has zero.

  14. stateofthedivision says:

Both parties decided to make energy the wedge issue for the Presidential campaign. Expect the layer of bull hockey to grow deeper.

However, Republicans should expect Round 2 to be a doozy tomorrow, after Chevron announces earnings.

    Bless her heart indeed! ;)

You know what really scares me? There are people out there that voted for her. And enough of them to actually defeat whoever it was that ran against her!

I’m starting to get more and more comfortable with the idea of some kind of competency testing for voters. And Candidates!

Maybe some kind of Lie detector test for candidates I don’t know, something to curb this kind of insanity from being put into any position of power…

What gets to me is that these republiscums lie so easily and so much off the floor, but when on the floor of the House or Senate they play act by telling each other how much they respect each other and demand that everybody (Democrats) treat them with respect.

The only respect the republiscums will get from me will come in the form of a big juicy goober aimed at their face! I wonder how many republiscum politicians only meet virtually with their constituents because they are afraid of face to face confrontations when meeting in person?

I once heard, “Bush is cruel. Cheney is just plain mean”. My inference is that Chimpy is aware of the pain he causes, and gets off on it, while the Dick doesn’t even consider the repercussions of his actions. Nor does he care.

And I would say they are both sociopaths with narcissism being a symptom they display to differing degrees. Chimpy would get off on snatching $.10 from a kid, in front of an audience. Dickster, on the other hand, settles for nothing less than the big score of mugging a rich mark in a dark alley. Then he’d “leak” the information to inspire fear among his rivals.

    Saint Augustine,

In Crazy Shelly’s case, it’s unlikely she realizes she’s lying. And, in the rare instances her dishonesty registers to her dulled senses, I’m quite certain she’s convinced that God made her lie for good reason.

The dangerous thing about nuts like her is that there is no intellect, or conscience, to appeal to. They Believe they are right for being wrong.

BTW. There’s a rumor on local radio that the MN Republican party refuses to allow her to debate her opponent! There might be a few left who aren’t God-plagued imbeciles.

Yup. I think her last facelift was tuned up just a little bit too much.

  32. misshusseinmolly says:

    Lie, lie, lie, lie, lie.

A reasonable person would wonder why anyone would get away with lying so blatantly, but Bachmann isn’t unique. It’s become epidemic.

I blame the media. It used to be that we had real journalists, who would do their homework before interviewing somebody, and they would never allow any interviewee to get away with flat-out lies unchallenged.

But these days, we don’t have journalists. We have talking heads. Pretty, charismatic, pleasant-to-watch talking heads. They don’t do anything resembling actual journalism — they parrot the talking points they are given and they mindlessly sit and allow their interview subjects to spew forth at will.

And even when the lies are outrageous enough that a neutral talking head might challenge them, there are always plenty of interviewers skewed to the ideology of the interviewee — you know, to help catapult the propaganda.

Edward R. Murrow must be spinning in his grave.

  33. Bozo The Neoclown says:

  40. pete says:

I wouldn’t be too concerned at this point, Alectimmerman. I live just a few blocks outside the 6th district myself. All signs point to the good people of the 6th being aware that they were had by a lunatic and she isn’t running against a lightweight like Patty Wetterling who, bless her heart, just lacks the killer instinct to win a national seat.

Heck! There’s even a rumor that Crazy Shelly’s own party has forbidden her to debate! I wouldn’t bet a broken chopstick on her chances for reelection.

  41. MapleStreet says:

Look at her picture. Would that face lie to you ?

What bothers me is that the repubs seem to have perfected the “art” of opposing something while claiming they support it.

This time alternative energy, last time GI educational bill…

  42. sctitan says:

Can the good people of Minnesota get her saggy arse out of office in November? Surely there is someone that can run against her and use these lies and that ugly mug shot to beat the shit out of her!

Coming from one who lives in the 6th District of MN, which Bachmann represents, I really dont think she is going anywhere soon. Tinklenberg, who is her challanger, faces an uphill battle. A strong Republican district. She is a freak and an embarrassment to all. Please 6th district, boot her out!!

Good thing redistricting is taking place in 2010, she will be gone for sure then. An entertaining 2 more years will be all.

  43. sctitan says:

However, there is one other chance to boot her out. Rep. Michele Bachmann now has a challenger in the Republican primary. St. John’s University psychology professor Aubrey Immelman has filed to run against the freshman legislator.
