I am so sick of hearing about reparations, apologies and how awful "AFRICAN AMERICANS" are treated. Show me the person alive that was thrown into slavery, and I will be happy to apologize. EVERY ONE OF US SUFFERED IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. The American Indian - I owe them an apology more than anyone. Their land was stolen, we lied to them and they were slaughtered or put on reservations. Look at the Irish - the Japanese (interned just because of their race). Then we have the "reverse discrimination". My husband denied a job because they had "quotas" to meet, when he tested at a higher level. Affirmative action can and has made up for mistakes that were made. I never hurt anyone, but don't get the same opportunities. QUIT USING THE PAST AS A REASON TO FAIL! TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHERE YOU ARE IN LIFE AND BE GRATEFUL - NOT LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO MAKE UP FOR A LIFE EXPERIENCE YOU ONLY READ ABOUT.

Hey, here is a question for you self loathing America hating guilty white liberals.

if you were black, where would you rather live today, America or Africa? Where do Blacks have it better, America or Africa?

You probably hate America so much that you can't even answer.

Comrade Rutherford Says:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Christianity has NOTHING to do with forgiveness!!!

No where in the New Testament does anyone ever say anything about forgiveness!

Here is some more comrade...

Passage Matthew 6:14:
14For if you forgive people their trespasses [their [a]reckless and willful sins, [b]leaving them, letting them go, and [c]giving up resentment], your heavenly Father will also forgive you.

Passage Matthew 18:35:
35So also My heavenly Father will deal with every one of you if you do not freely forgive your brother from your heart his offenses.

Passage Luke 17:4:
4And even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and turns to you seven times and says, I repent [I am sorry], you must forgive him (give up resentment and consider the offense as recalled and annulled).

Shall I go on Comrade???

Comrade Rutherford Says:

Christianity has NOTHING to do with forgiveness!!!

Oh boy, I went to sleep too early last night.

Passage John 20:23:
23[Now having received the Holy Spirit, and being [a]led and directed by Him] if you forgive the sins of anyone, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of anyone, they are retained.

Passage Acts 2:38:
38And Peter answered them, Repent (change your views and purpose to accept the will of God in your inner selves instead of rejecting it) and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of and release from your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Passage Colossians 3:13:
13Be gentle and forbearing with one another and, if one has a difference (a grievance or complaint) against another, readily pardoning each other; even as the Lord has [freely] forgiven you, so must you also [forgive].

Because I obviously have to say it or I'll be understood not to think that way, Beck is wrong. An apology is not an affront to Christianity. It is necessary.

However, it's obvious that this story is being carried in such a way as to imply that slavery is something Christians approve of. It screams "Misinterpret me!" All so everyone can get their knickers in a knot and starting listing all the stereotypes about those evil bigoted Christians.

As for
oldtree

christians are okay with bullshit as food and murder as policy. otherwise, they wouldn’t be a part of a group of killers.

Murder as policy--I don't even know what that's supposed to mean, since the Vatican condemns the war, torture, capital punishment, slavery, and abortion.

Bullshit as food--Pope Benedict XVI is against factory farming, and I am a vegan for theological reasons, myself.

It’s worth noting that Lincoln says in his inaugural speech, the second one bit thinks, that the problem – slavery – was two hundred and fifty years old.

Seems the U.S. inherited it, but didn’t create it.

RUCerious Says:

Anyone who doesn’t think the effects of slavery and Jimmy Crow are still having social and economic impact needs to hang out on the corner of Alameda and Central in downtown Los Angeles, or for that matter, any urban corner of a large city, for a week, and report back to us what they experienced.
July 31st, 2008 at 4:43 pm

bit would give this a resounding…huh?

What could one possibly see on a corner of Alameda and Central that would demonstrate the results of slavery and Jim Crow?

Perhaps what you see is simply what happens when kids are raised without a father. bit doesn’t know but thinks the even money says that the children of irresponsible men will also be irresponsible.

bit also thinks this remark applies to all races.

An apology is absolutely nothing, but it amazes me how people refuse to actually want to give one. Official apologies have been issued before, i.e the Japanese who were interned during WWII. No one said a word about that. - Obvioulsy Gleen Beck is an idiot and clearly does not understand the premise. Yes, the civil war in a major part was about slavery, but remember Blacks fought and died in the civil war as well. Secondly, there were long lasting financial benefits of slavery that created wealth for many families existing today. Katie Couric epitomises this. Several years ago on the Today show the cast gave a brief history of their lineage. I was astonished regarding Katie's story, more so that she would illustrate it publiclly. Her earliest ancestor was an Arcadian (French) who settled in Alabama and was known as an "Indian Fighter." His children thrived as "cotton merchants." Katie went back to the plantation and showed the unmarked graves of the former slaves. The wealth of Katies family was initially generated off the backs of their slaves, this enabled her family to prosper, provided her with the financing for college at Univ. of Virginia (which was built by slaves), etc., etc... Does the media not know the how slavery benefitted this country? Why is it when the issue of apology or God forbid reparations are discussed everyone dummies up?

Third, Jim Crow this heinous aparthied system existed after the Civil War! My grandparents and father had to endure this system and survived. My Father attended a state midwestern university (before affirmative action) in the 1940's. He was not allowed to live in the dormitories, because he tended to have more melenin in his skin and broader phenotypical features. Sadly through state taxes by which my grandparents and he paid into these dorms were created and maintained. How can he recoup his investment into the system when he was disallowed from living in the residences he helped finance, simply because of his race? This certain University continues to call him wanting donations. After describing the way he was treated by administrators and professors, the caller insists things have changed and that they are sorry. As he slams down the phone he exclaims - "IT'S TOO LATE" My sentiments exactly regarding any apology!

Lastly - As this issue is discuss I guess no one is to blame. No one existed before the Civil Rights act of 1964 and MLK died in vain!

Agreed that it is just a story. But a story with some historical truth including the enslavement of Jews by Egypt."

=======================================================

There is ZERO evidence that a people called the Hebrews ever lived in Egypt. The story of the Exodus is simply that, a story, not an actual historical event. The Egyptians were meticulous recordkeepers and to date no archaeological evidence that confirms the story of Exodus have ever been found. Don't you think that Moses, who was supposedly adopted into the family of the Pharaoh, would have been mentioned in some record, somewhere?

Try again, dude.

Just what would Glen Beck, a Mormon, know about Christianity?

Just what would Glen Beck, a neoconservative, know about the teachings of Jesus?

Glen, have you ever read the Sermon on the Mount? (Oh, yeah... that's in the Bible, not the "Book of Mormon".) What part of Jesus' teachings do you really know? Can you cite a single example of Jesus' teachings on how people should treat one another, how the rich and strong have a responsibility to the poor and weak?

Glen Beck is a professional hater. He's not on the air because he is an intelligent, educated person. He's on the air because his antics and ignorance (for some stupid reason) pull in lots of listeners and the stations that broadcast his screeds can sell lots of advertising. Beck makes his money on the backs of those who he rails against. Just like Limpballs and Insanity and the rest, he's a parasite on the body politic and has nothing whatsoever to contribute to society.

Those big-hearted founders prohibited the importation of slaves so that the value of their own slaves would increase. How patriotic!

I knew there would be a clog justifying slavery by stating it wasn't all that bad and Africans had slaves too.

GMAFB

Rape, murder, lynching, treating people worse than garbage, castration, segregation, laws and more are on the US hands.

Do you know tens of thousands died before reaching north Am.? Do you know people in NA could smell slave ships before reaching here?

Screw you.

Recently I read a book The Slave Trade by Hugh Thomas. A couple of facts from the book.

Slaves accounted for 3/4 of West Africas exports in 1807. Africans were exporting their own people for profit. The abolition of the slave trade by Britain, and the US in 1807 hit African nations hard economically. Muslims considered the Christian behaviour was an attack on Islam. There were in fact more African slaves in Africa than in the Americas. Slaves used to be sacrificed upon the death of an African king. In fact, white men were taken as slaves in Northern Africa, sold by pirates, but in much fewer numbers of course. That was African culture then. Not much better than American culture. Perhaps if this were taught people would be more forgiving of the past.

A total of 11,328,000 slaves were delivered to the Americas from Africa. Only five hundred thousand went to North America, the vast majority before we broke free from the British.

During the Revolution, the British were short of troops and had to recruit mercenaries, which included runaway slaves.
After the war, the newly formed US had inherited 500,000 slaves. Most were 2nd and 3rd generation. Keep in mind, the US did not include all of North America, there were large numbers of slaves in Spanish and French controlled territories that were not part of the US at the time and which were later absorbed as we expanded.

The constitution in 1787 prevented Congress from taking action until 1807, a delay of 20 years, preferring the states take a lead. Keep in mind this was a young country, with a Federal Government that was not very well organized, and not very powerful to enforce the few laws it had. It did however make the slave trade to foreign ports illegal. In 1807, Congress made it illegal to import slaves into the US starting from 1808, and made it illegal for any citizen to invest in the trade elsewhere. The handling of freed slaves was left to the states, and slavery was not completely abolished until after the Civil War.

Now, the KKK and treatment of the blacks after the Civil War was not good, no question. The KKK was organized by British loyaltists in the South angered at their loss and who sought to keep America weak, and also in part to intolerance that was prevalent in the 19th century globally. Our country expanded as a result of our Manifest Destiny for crying out loud. Many people in America have been treated poorly in our history, Irish- Italians-Chinese -Japanese-Jews-Catholics-Muslims- Native Americans- Mexicans. Except for the Native Americans, through no fault of their own, most have assimilated well and do not dwell on their ancestors past ill treatment.

America was not a kind country to those who were not well off or different, and is not much better today. The main difference is the elite see all of those below them as slaves, beasts which they have turned into debt slaves. The beasts that make good slaves and pay off their debt will get to stick around.

Apologies for mistakes done in the past are cheap. Take a look at the incarcertation rate of blacks relative to whites. Almost 45% of the prison population is black, and the USA has the highest incarceration rate in the world. End the foolish war on drugs. This is something that can done today, instead we talk about slavery which was a common practice for thousands of years. Even our native Americans had slaves (just not black ones).

Additionally, deal with the Iranian missle tests from tankers recently that will eventually be pointed at a US city from the Atlantic or Pacific. Remember, they want a world without American and Isreal. Do you what that too barfly?

They aren't that crazy. They know what we would do in retaliation - regardless of who's president.

Tim43 Says:

You think that high oil prices are just simply going to go away? This is a temporary drop barfly? What happens in five years? Ten years? Would you continue to have us send 700 Billion to countries that hate us? Or, would you consider drilling for our own resources thus keeping the billions here in America?

There are hundreds of already-drilled wells, that were capped by the oil companies in the late Seventies. That oil is still sitting there, waiting for extraction. The only reason it hasn't been refined, is the high sulphur content of the crude, which would require an investment, to upgrade present facilities to handle it. This drilling push is a scam, to get at the easier-to-refine crude in ANWR, and the coasts.

You're a dupe.
