Rove calls contempt vote ‘ludicrous,’ admits to exerting no ‘personal privilege.’

While he has refused to appear before Congress, Karl Rove did make time to show up last night on Fox News. Sean Hannity asked Rove about the House Judiciary Committee’s vote yesterday to hold him in contempt of Congress for ignoring subpoenas. Rove called the vote “ludicrous,” but admitted that he has “not exerted any personal privilege on this”:

ROVE: I have not exerted any personal privilege on this. The White House has said we want to stand up for the doctrine of separation of powers and for the right of the president to not have his aides and former aides called up at the convenience of the Congress for no good reason at all.

Watch it:

Rove’s answer makes clear that he has no legal basis for refusing to appear before Congress. He also claimed in the interview that he has already answered questions pertaining to his alleged involvement in the prosecution of former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman (D), but as Marcy Wheeler points out “Rove didn’t deny the central allegations against him” in the case.

Update Reacting to the contempt vote, former Alabama Gov. Don Siegelman said, "I think it takes us one step closer to the truth, one step closer to justice."

I suppose Congress should only call up witnesses for what only Karl Rove thinks are good reasons.

Actually it is “ludicrous” that this toad faced twerp is not rotting in jail already.

    ______

The power of Congress to call members of the executive branch to testify is a textbook definiton OF the doctrine of separation of powers, you corpulent craphead! It’s the thing that stands between a representative democracy and a dictatorship!

I want this fathermucker in hand-cuffs and leg-irons.

Pigboy is getting nervous? Good. This piece of pork needs be hung out & cured; perhaps even smoked.

Lest we forget, his ‘company’ is making buku moolah helping McNasty spread dirty rumors & changing facts.

American needs Rove like we need Bush in a third term…

Well, at least they’re consistent, as so many Republicans stood up against forcing Clinton aides to testify in’98…

    … what? They didn’t?

You mean they were the ones clamoring for testimony and ridiculing the notion of “executive privilege”?

    Well I’ll be…

  9. raynman says:

Hmmmm… if I ever get called to testify before Congress, I wonder if I can say something that asinine and NOT get thrown in jail?

  10. Zimzone says:

    ludicrous?
Anyone heard the rap by ludacris slamming McCain? Ouch!

Obama’s campaign called it ‘outrageously offensive’. No response yet from the McNasty camp, but I’m sure they’ll claim it’s Obama’s best friend, former Pastor, secret Muslim type rapper.

Karlina, with your pasty-assed skin, I’d be afraid of going to prison too. Afterall, throw an orange jumpsuit on him and he’d look exactly like a pig, all those white trash bubbas would get their rocks off bending him over and making him squeel like one.

This phat phuck sounds like he thinks he’s President.

    Personal Privilege, indeed.

This is the man responsible for 8 years of domestic terror on the American people.

I’d love to give you a personal privilege, you fascist puke.

Rove is talking through his ass, again. The seperation of powers is exactly what allows for the Congress to investigate the executive branch. But it’s the last part that’s so telling, “…for no good reason at all.” Since when does the accused get to decide whether the accusation is reasonable? If that’s the way it worked our courts would be completely empty.

I’m also hoping for that on environmental policy, war crimes against the Bush Regime, education reform, the housing crisis, Iraq, and a host of other issues about which the Democrats have been silent.

  19. Cal Malenky says:

A split second before Karl comes on, there’s footage of Dukakis riding in the tank, so I’m betting Hannity was getting another dig in at Democrats before inviting his fat-necked friend to opine about “separation of powers”.
McCain riding in the golf cart with GHW Bush is almost as funny. A couple of old farts who don’t walk.

What, Karl worry? He has connections with the Decider of the World, capable of pardoning thousands at a time. He carries a “get out of jail free” card in his wallet. But it expires January 2009…

  22. unbelievable says:

ROVE: The White House has said we want to stand up for the doctrine of separation of powers.

Only when it suits their needs, otherwise, they are wholly for the Executive Branch having untethered powers.

They are the ones who asserted that becuase the President does something, it cannot be illegal, simply because he’s the President. Never mind the Constitution.

  23. Keith H. says:

Do you hear that congress ?!?
karl says your vote was ludicrous !
He also said that you wanted to call him up at your convenience and that it was for no good reason at all.
Now, I don’t know about all of you down there in the Hallowed Halls, but I would take that as a very personal insult.
A slap in the face so to speak.
In fact, I’d say karl has drawn a line in the sand, has thrown down the gaunlet, he’s taunting you, daring you.
I mean, I’d be damned ashamed if I didn’t do something about it, right away.
This just can’t be allowed to go unchallenged.

  24. JMOHR says:

There is only one way to restore the rule of law in this country. We must take harsh action against the criminal Republican elite. They attempted a coup against the government and constitution. Yet, our Democrat party seems impostent to do anything about it. The Democrat party failed to learn that Republicans must be treated as the fascist and anti American force that they are. Pardon for Nixon was one thing. However, they never learned from it as the Iran Contra and countless other illegal activities have shown. It is time to jail their leaders and disband the party.

    ________________________________________________________

Only in Roveland would the politicization of the DoJ, effectively making the department a complete joke staffed by incompetents ready to do the President’s bidding instead of mete out actual justice, be considered “no good reason at all”.

On the other hand, the POTUS getting a blow job from a consenting adult is a d*mn good reason for aides, former aides, and even Secret Service agents to be called upon to testify under oath.

And about a quarter of the country still thinks this bizarre double standard makes sense.

  30. Frosty Cupcake says:

I find TP’s headline wording odd:

“Admits to exerting ‘no personal privilege’”

    Shouldn’t that be “Claims to exerting . . .”?

    Anyway, good morning, everyone. :)

  31. kasinca says:

It is easy KKKarl, go before the committee, put your hand on the Bible and clear your good reputation. Quit hiding behind the apron of the White House you no longer work for. Going on a pretend cable network and telling lies does nothing to clear your good name.

  32. Hussein McCain says:

“For no good reason at all” sounds like something you’d hear on “Leave it to Beaver”.

  33. tarazan says:

But who decides whether Rove was called by Congress for ‘Good Reason’ or ‘Bad Reason’?…
Is it Cheney who makes that decision?!

  34. 666lattes says:

As serious as this may ultimately be, compared to all of the things that Rove could be issued a subpoena for, this is SO tame in comparison… and they can’t even get this right.

Democrats need to stop being so scared of how this might be viewed by some imaginary society. They need to do their job and follow the law or they will not deserve anyone’s vote!

So much is at stake here because we can not possibly move forward as a Nation until we address the crimes and corruption of this Administration. What good would power be for the Democrats if all they control is one big lie.

I think we should bring back the stockade and place Karl Rove in the stockade in any town square and let us throw eggs and tomatoes at him. He could be moved around from city to city because he betrayed the American people and jeopardized our national security.

  40. A Patriot Acting says:

    Cats r Flyfishn-

How about putting the stockade on the back of a flatbed truck and start a cross country tour? I know scores of people who would love to line up on Broadway here in NY with crates of rotten vegetables for that effing pig.

  42. scytherius says:

    Dary11

Thinking that being found guilty by one’s peers via a jury is somehow justice is absurd. All I need do is to point to all those wrong convictions by eyewitnesses here the guilty go free via DNA which proves beyond ALL doubt they didn’t do it. Having been both a prosecutor and defense atty, believe me, the system is gamed and manipulated beyond belief. Trials are a joke. The reason they keep it up? it’s because they have convinced people like you they are fair.

  43. tokin librul says:

    not ’stockade’…that’s a fort
    what you mean is “stocks”
An altogether too-long overlooked instrument for reproving the haughty…

KR’s argument is pure BS. His mockery of the Consititution and Congress is criminal. I realize Mukasey will not allow him to suffer any conseqence for any contempt charges.
On another note,I saw a picture of the turd at a Nationals game Monday vs. the Phillies. Too bad one of the fans didn’t beat the piss out of him.
I hope one day there will be a citizens arrest of this f&%king creep.

    ——————————————————————————–

We’ll be “one step closer to justice” when Don Siegelman is back behind bars for the crimes of bribery for which he was found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt by a jury of his peers.

    Dary11,
When a process is criminally flawed, even you must admit that the results are, therefore, called into doubt.

He can give this crapola spin on Fox News last night yet he can’t park his rear end in front of Congress to testify. I look forward to the House Judiciary Committee to cuff and arrest Tubby. He has gotten too many free passes in his crimes.

  52. bspence11 says:

It’s not a separation of POWERS between branches of government, it’s a separation of church and state. Rove needs to realize that our government is a system of checks and balances. One branch looks over the other for any wrongdoing. That way, no one branch gets too powerful. This is elementary school social studies!! The Executive is way, way too powerful right now.
