Yesterday, the House Judiciary Committee voted to hold Karl Rove in contempt of Congress. On MSNBC yesterday, Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC), breaking with his party, said he believes Rove should be forced to testify. “Let him explain his involvement, if any, in this Don Siegelman case.” When pressed on whether he was suggesting sending Rove to jail, Jones signaled that he supports this option:
Q: Knowing that he’s not coming, should Congress use its inherent contempt power and haul him in, possibly put him into jail?
JONES: Whatever authority Congress has, we need to uphold the institution.
Q: So it sounds like you’re saying that you too think that that should be a real option here.
JONES: I think that we should uphold the institution and the integrity of the House of Representatives.
Watch it:

What?! A crack in the fortress? Let’s see what happens before we uncork the champagne.
July 31st, 2008 at 6:52 pmHe could and should be joined by the entire Chimpy administration to keep him company……..
July 31st, 2008 at 6:57 pmThis is getting good folks. Grab the popcorn and sit right down. A few GOP breakaways is all we need to get this thing started.
July 31st, 2008 at 6:57 pmAnd the walls come a tumblin’ down….
July 31st, 2008 at 6:57 pmSigns of intelligent life from the Republicans or was that a mirage?
July 31st, 2008 at 6:58 pmYeesh StratRat, haven’t you heard, we don’t eat popcorn. We eat Cheetos … in our underwear.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:00 pmSo we should give this guy credit for being a true American and a patriot. OR, should we check to see if he’s in a tight reelection bid and faking it?
July 31st, 2008 at 7:01 pmYeesh StratRat, haven’t you heard, we don’t eat popcorn. We eat Cheetos … in our underwear.
That does explain the orange tint coming from my keyboard. I thought it was the northern lights, but instead it was a torn bag of cheetos which had spilled.
Good stuff, Shayne. Also your point at #7 is clever too. Republicans fake everything else, why not fake their patriotism?
July 31st, 2008 at 7:07 pmOh, Shayne, you lovely, cynical girl.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:09 pmShayne Says: OR
Or he realizes that the shoe will soon be on the other foot: republican sure like to investigate democrat presidents. Suddenly, oversight will be the thing that republicans are known for.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:15 pmJones seems to be the real deal. Good article in wikipedia.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:15 pmI wonder to what extent lil’ shawn hannity and dildo o’lielly with foam at the mouth about this revelation? I foresee the words “traitor” and “left wing whacko” coming into play at LEAST four times a minute.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:15 pmJT- Does it hurt to pull such long “articles” from out of your ass? Either provide your source or, be dismissed as the vile little troll i suspect you to be.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:17 pmLet’s see how he votes on the issue…
July 31st, 2008 at 7:19 pmFederal judge sides with Congress, ruling that Bush’s top advisors can be subpoenaed
Thursday, July 31, 2008 05:17:07 PM
A federal judge on Thursday rejected President Bush’s contention that senior White House advisers are immune from subpoenas, siding with Congress’ power to investigate the executive branch and handing a victory to Democrats probing the dismissal of nine federal prosecutors.
The unprecedented ruling undercut three presidential confidants who have defied congressional subpoenas for information that Bush says is protected by executive privilege. Democrats swiftly announced they would schedule hearings in September, at the height of election season.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said the House could soon vote on a contempt citation against one of the three officials, Karl Rove, formerly Bush’s top adviser.

Can someone please scan whatever crap JT cut-and-pasted and let the rest of us know if it’s worth responding to?
I did it last time. It’s someone else’s turn.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:20 pmJT, Sad that a guy has to bend over backwards to ignore the fact of racism to keep from being beaten by it.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:21 pmralph, without a source cited, I tend not to waste time on such drivel (especially when it’s the length of some white trash’s dissertation).
July 31st, 2008 at 7:24 pmI really wish I could believe something would be done about the actors in this Administration. I really do.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:26 pmJT, do you work for PowerLine? ’cause that post bears a shocking resemblance to one posted over there…

Thank you Bozo for saying this. Maybe JT has something to say, I know it is far fetched, but if the screeds last 7 paragraphs, who is gonna read them? Not me.
JT: If you want us to consider what is on your mind, do it with a little panache, a little style. Gleen out of the vast article something specific to the topic, then parse out the points you wish to make.
It takes less time for us to determine you really don’t know what you are talking about. We like to work efficiently.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:37 pmRove: “Pardon me.”

They are not “actors.” They are WAR CRIMINALS. Ronnie Raygun was an actor and third rate at that…The RePugniScums have phucked America and the common man into oblivion!!

Way off topic, and my patience has worn thin with this kind of crap. I am now flagging this post and any other like it. This thread isn’t about Obama.
If you really want to post this tripe (and we would appreciate it if you would just post a link instead of cutting and pasting the whole thing), wait until tomorrow morning and post it in the ThinkFast thread, which we consider to be an open thread.

You post a crappy article culled from PowerLame and expect to be taken seriously ?
You need to join the circus , you stupid , dirty bozo…..
July 31st, 2008 at 7:42 pmWalter Jones is a conservative Republican, but he’s also a straight shooter who isn’t afraid to go against his party if he believes they are wrong.
Jones voted to authorize Bush to use force against Iraq, and even went so far to lead the charge to re-name the fries in the cafeteria to Freedom Fries (remember that?), but he has since done a 180 on the war and opposes it. Not only that, but he has called on Dubya to apologize to America for giving Congress misleading (incorrect) information about it.
He’s conservative in a kind of Libertarian way (he’s a supporter of Ron Paul), but not a crook. I believe he will join the Dems in holding Rove’s feet to the fire.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:45 pmI’ll believe it when I see it.
July 31st, 2008 at 7:52 pmYou know somethin’ JT, McCain doesn’t have a leg to stand on. And it’s driving you nuts and into an extreme nitty-picky mode. I hope that Obama is the most liberal president of all time, because that’s the kind of absorbant sheet we’ll need to clean up the mess left behind by the most crazily conservative administration of all time.
Do you ever hear those who call into some of these radio shows? I listen to Alan Colmes, and he’s left in shock at the creativity of some nasty callers who stick it to Obama on anything other than the issues.
If you can’t deal with the facts, put down your cards and leave the table.
July 31st, 2008 at 8:01 pmsending Rove to jail
If this improves the neocons ratings, maybe they will send ALL guilty to jail.
July 31st, 2008 at 8:34 pmYou mean, after all Rove has done for the Republican Party?
LOL
July 31st, 2008 at 9:38 pmas I wrote in an earlier thread…none of this really matters unfortunately, or it probably won’t matter.
Why?
Two words:
Nancy Pelosi. She will never allow the House to bring ANY member of the Bush White House to justice if she can help it. And the reason why is very simple:
Nancy is complicit in warrantless wiretapping (she knew about it BEFORE the media broke the story, and did NOTHING) and she is complicit in the US policies condoning torture (again, she knew about it BEFORE any of us did, and did NOTHING).
She is therefore just as guilty as those she is sworn to bring to justice, those she is sworn to hold accountable.
Nancy Pelosi is a criminal, I fear she will never do anything she is obligated to do vis a vis her oath of office…to hold any of these thugs, liars, and thieves accountable would be to possibly expose her own culpability.
We may well have to wait until AFTER the election to really see anything of substance.
O my brothers, may Bog, that starry malchick, help us all. With apologies to Anthony Burgess.
July 31st, 2008 at 11:42 pmOh, the times they are a changin’???
August 1st, 2008 at 8:45 amthe dems, starting with pelosi, will look like wussies — again — if they let a wingnut get in front of putting rove in jail …
August 1st, 2008 at 8:56 amBlood is in the water. The Republican sharks will turn on their own, in the waning days of this, the Worst Administration Ever.
August 1st, 2008 at 9:04 amImpeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!
I know we are all in a big rush to have justice with this dirt bag, BUT remember we don’t want Bush to pardon him, I think congress is doing the right thing here, no convictions until Obama is President, God willing…
Keep your fingers crossed…
