White House may still take indicted Sen. Ted Stevens on Bush’s Alaska trip.

On Tuesday, Sen. Ted Stevens (R-AK) was indicted “on seven counts of failing to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars in services from an oil services company that helped renovate his home.” During the White House press briefing today, a reporter asked Press Secretary Dana Perino if Stevens’ is still “invited” to travel with the President on his upcoming trip to Alaska. Perino replied that the invitation “did not change” with Stevens’ indictment:

Q It’s my understanding that Senator Stevens was invited to go along to Alaska on Monday night, and I wonder if that invitation still stands, or if he’s accepted it, if he’s planning to go?

MS. PERINO: I don’t know if he is going to be going on that trip, but protocol is that any member of a state is invited to travel with the President, and that did not change in his case.

Will he be taking indicted Rep. Young along, too? Maybe they will have dinner with Stevens’ son, also indicted.

Would be quite an appropriate table of thugs and scumbags, indeed.

    Alaska must be SOOOO Proud!

Dana does have a point on this (albeit a small one) that it’s traditional to invite members of a state’s delegation when the President travels to that state.

If Bush was running for re-election, I wouldn’t be surprised if he attempted to distance himself as much as possible from Stevens. But since he’s not, and he knows he can do whatever he wants to without having to answer for it, he probably figures, “why not?”

Mark Foley was NOT invited to travel with GW and Jeb on Florida trips. They knew Folwy was a problem and they didn’t want to be seen with him even BEFORE the sex scandal broke publically.
So again, she’s lying through her teeth.

That’s odd… Bush has always demanded unswerving loyalty from others but never shown much himself…

    …very odd…

Where is Jim Wilke to defend his great Alaska legislators? Aren’t you proud of these good ol’ boyz?

    Heh heh

  10. Wayne A. Schneider says:

Well, I’m sure that sooner or later, the WH is going to trot out the old line that “Stevens should be considered innocent until proven guilty.” Of course, if Stevens was a detainee down at GTMO tagged with the label “enemy combatant”, then he would be considered guilty and he wouldn’t get a trial.

And the Republican Party sees nothing contradictory about this.

  11. Badmoodman says:

Bush is being seen in public with Stevens much like the nominally attractive teen female will surround herself with Alpo-ites.

You think a little bribery will stop anything from happening?

Come on… your looking at the king of law breaking. Ted Stevens looks like a 12 year old stealing from Urban Outfitters compared to Bush

  18. StratRat says:

And according to DailyKos, Alaska is also leaning again toward a Repubican. How stoopid are those citizens anyway? A Republican has raped the treasury and the state, but they want to put another one in office.

How cold is it up there, that they lose their wisdom?

  19. tarazan says:

May be Ted Stevens hope for a presidential pardon becomes reality.

Did Bush just confer a new nickname on the Senior Senator from Alaska.

“I changed your nickname from King Salmon to Duke Salmonella.”

  22. stateofthedivision says:

Of course Bush uses his brief moments of creativity to impact the lives of Americans. Consider his likely Executive Order:

“Just as the great Ronald Reagan changed ketchup to a vegetable, I, George W. Bush, proclaim salmonella a minature form of the healthy fish so many of us need in our diets.”

  27. republicanSScareme says:

So what Ted Stevens is indicted? Herr Bush is just going to pardon all these cheap crooks before he leaves office.

Should the Republican Party be outlawed as a criminal organization?

  28. jimijazz says:

Why not? Bush and Stevens are both sewer rats. Bush making the White House as mucky as he can get it before he leaves office. We’ll see if there are consequences.

  29. ricchase says:

Bush, being a person who brazenly lied and lies about his religion and faith, lied repeatedly to take America to war, over lies (9/11, WMD, “terrorists” etc.) and snarfs, giggles and dances while the country collaspes and young Americans are needlessly slaughtered is proof he is utterly soulless and devoid of any speck of conscience. Why let overt mingling with felons bother him? Peas in a pod.

  30. pete says:

Rational people see Ted as a criminal, a boor, and a fool. In Reichworld, on the other hand, people like the chimp see nothing but “Senior GOP senator”.

Though I’m quite sure the chimp, himself, is very appreciative of all Ted has done for Alaskan oil concerns. Heck! silly George will probably give him a preemptive pardon “for his faithful service to the party”. He will be absolved by the masters of the Reich and no one on their side will even realize how disgraceful that really is.

  31. Game of Life says:

He should go with the rest of the crooks.

Ted Stevens is from Arkansas? I thought he was from Alaska.

  35. DaTruth says:

These criminals have no respect left for this country. Ultimately they feel proud because they have gotten away with crime. The idiot Bush has blatantly mocked this nation. Not only has he gotten away with crime, he rubs it on our faces everyday.
