House conservatives boo veterans organizations who urge a clean military funding bill.

On Friday, the House considered a bill providing needed funding to veterans and military organizations. House conservatives tried to attach an offshore oil drilling amendment to the bill, threatening its passage. Chairman of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Chet Edwards (D-TX) denounced the tactic. When he read statements from veterans groups urging Congress not to meddle with the legislation, House conservatives booed. Watch it:

Despite the Republicans’ stunts, the House passed the bill.

Digg It!

    Republicans booing veterans, imagine that.

Next they will call them fake soldiers…. Oh, yeah, they already did that too.

    Hang ‘em high.

  2. stateofthedivision says:

Pep rally anyone? I hear the Elephant Booster squad is meeting after school lets out. It’s a fund raiser for their supporters, which includes ExxonMobile, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, BP, and Royal Dutch Shell.

Be sure to bring the red and white pom poms!

  3. Wayne A. Schneider says:

The Republicans should have booed themselves. The House has very specific rules regarding amendments, including one which says that an amendment must be “germane” to the bill. How is offshore drilling germane to veterans’ funding? Every Republican on Congress knows that what they are trying to do with offshore drilling will not lower our gas prices at the pump even a single penny any time soon. Every one of them knows that, and so this stunt is nothing more than the Republicans’ way of lying to their constituents.

  4. christopher wiwi says:

“The White House is once again trying to use our veterans as political bargaining chips, creating roadblocks to this bill’s swift enactment. Yesterday, the White House issued a veto threat, requiring that any increases in veterans’ funding be offset through cuts to other programs – including investments in homeland security, renewable energy, health care, and education”.Sounds familiar don`t it vetos and budget cuts ………. can`t the re-pukes just go away and die a meanless death, they have already nailed the coffin shut on America.

  5. Zimzone says:

Reminds me of sophomoric behavior found in Middle School.

They really, really, really want offshore drilling.

Newt, et al, drummed up this dummy issue to try & put Dems in a corner, or at least to blame them for ‘not wanting cheaper gas’.

Of course, attaching it to a military bill adds the incentive of calling Dems anti-troops if they don’t pass it.

    Drill a Republican. Here. Now.

  6. Taguba says:

Guess they should hold their Boo’s until they know who the quote is from.. I am sure we wont hear about this injustice from the “liberal” media ?

  7. MCMetal says:

The GOP has plans to boo Brad’s and Angelina’s twins when their recess is over , and Santa over the Christmas holidays …………

  8. christopher wiwi says:

#4, they can lie to their constituents because they have been sold the “noble lie” and live it to the fullest each and every day……The re-pukes are a disgrace to America and what it stands for.

  9. raynman says:

    Booing veterans….

Just when you think Republicans can’t sink any lower.

  10. backup says:

Edwards is right on the issue. His argument well delivered.

After watching the clip, maybe Pelosi wasn’t crazy about suggesting Edwards as a good V.P. candidate.

  11. christopher wiwi says:

Boo !to the re-pukes and their tactics of dishonesty and deceit……….

Any thoughts on Bush being booed at the Olympics?

Think about it…if they introduce him as a celebrity / dignitary, it will give the global community as chance to respond.

Heretofore, his overseas excursions have always limited protests or vocal feedback by those opposing his policies. Beijing may be the first time the ‘global village’ gets a chance to voice their dismay at this sock puppet.

I, for one, am looking forward to watching the opening ceremonies…let’s hope all good people voice their dismay.

  13. paleolib says:

Even after all the sleazy antisocial behavior the Republicans have engaged in since Newt, Delay et al. made the scene we still haven’t seen how low they will go. Booing veterans groups is bad, the Paris Hilton commercial simply weird, the tire pressure gauge counterproductive. I halfway wonder if some geniuses will show up at the Republic convention in blackface just to go beyond the bandaid gag in 2004.

  14. Wayne A. Schneider says:

    Zimzone Says:

Any thoughts on Bush being booed at the Olympics?

Won’t happen. Olympic Rules say, basically, that what the host does for one country or its athletes, they must do for all. So, unless they plan to introduce the leaders of every country present (which I don’t think they do, because it’s all about the athletes), Bush won’t get a separate chance to be booed.

  15. Shayne says:

Zimzone, any booing of the President would never make it onto our corporate owned news programs. We’ll have to get details of it from our friends overseas.

  16. Zimzone says:

Thanks, Wayne. You’re right about the ‘equal treatment’ part, but it sure would be nice to see people from all over the Planet giving Bush the ‘rasberries’, en masse.

  17. Shayne says:

And Paleolib, when they show up in blackface they will tell Obama to “lighten up” it’s a just a little joke they’re making.

  18. Shayne says:

And then they’ll accuse Obama of playing the race card. Almost forgot.

Why did you post this? Do you know what it’s supposed to mean? Are you trying to imply that’s okay for Republicans to boo veterans groups? This makes less sense than your usual posts.

The smoke clears a little and the Republicans show their true colors.

What are you talking about? Your post is not even germane to the topic.

  28. trollsbwild says:

How can anyone watch this and still support the GOP? Despicable. Shameless. The troops deserve better.
This GE demands a purge of the scum that has infested DC.
    My top three to go:
    Boehner
    Blunt
McConnell (If he were a congressman, you know he would have been one of the booing clowns).
I pray they are shown the door this November.

  29. katy says:

hmmm… chet edwards… where have i heard that name lately?

oh yea… nancy wants him to be obama’s vp… TP too?

    just curious…

good on him for this move… MORE! MORE! dammit!

  30. JMOHR says:

Why not use the clip of the booing as part of a commercial. The text or voice over would read:

    <

strong>THIS IS THE SUPPORT FOR OUR TROOPS AND VETERANS THAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM THE REPUBLILCANS. QUICK TO SEND THEM TO WAR. SLOW TO SUPPORT THEM OR CARE FOR THEM. WHERE WAS SENATOR MCCAIN AND HIS SUPPORT FOR VETERANS WHEN HIS PARTY, THE PARTY OF WHICH HE IS THE PRESUMPTIVE LEADER DURING THIS DEBATE? FUND RAISING AND AWOL FROM DUTY.

  31. bluestatedon says:

Don’t hold your breath waiting for either the DNC or the Obama campaign to make use of this, as both groups of geniuses have proven so far to be amazingly incapable of using the ginormous number of potent issues the GOP has handed them on a silver platter over the last 8 years. Just as a fr’ instance, if any of them had a brain between them, they would have already produced and been airing ads attacking the GOP, Bush, and by extension McCain, over FEMA’s stockpiling millions of dollars worth of badly needed supplies intended for Katrina victims, with the excuse that they weren’t requested.

So far, the entire Democratic effort at the national level has been one of missed opportunities. It’s a target-rich environment, but it looks as though Harry Reid is directing the efforts. Future historians are going to shake their heads and marvel at the gross political incompetence of the Democrats.

  32. Doc Rock says:

The GOP has never cared about the troops or veterans, they just regard them as a tool and a symbol to use callously to advance their corrupt plots.

  33. Max-1 says:

    .

Because nothing says “I support the troops,” better that a great big BOOOOOOO… NO?

    .

  34. impeachcheneythenbush says:

Notice that Ron Paul voted against the bill. So did Duncan…that rabid “supporter of the troops” guy. Guess since it didn’t actually fund the war itself, it was unworthy of support, in his mind. I hope present and past service members are aware of his vote on this one. Jeff Flake I understand…he thinks most of the spending that has been done is irresponsible and at least takes a principled stand on this stuff.

  35. upside99 says:

Poor Edwards; gotta be tough to be one of the few politicians from TX that has any integrity left. Kinda like swimming upstream against the sewer flow from all that Repug BS affluent.

  36. VerbalKint says:

    moondancer Says:

Perhaps GOP spokesperson Themis can explain it to us.
