Blowhard BillO is simply looking to pimp off of a piece of 2% of the oil campanies to pay off his sexual harrassment lawsuit. Always looking for a buck for him. And for Tubby McTreason to say that oil companies “pay a lot in taxes” is a bunch a bull when clearly the oil companies had so many expenses written off their taxes which lowered their income bracket enough that they pay less in taxes. And what Tubby is not saying is that many of them have much of their money and assets overseas. So, to say that the oil companies pay a lot of taxes in the U.S. is simply a crock.

No. Just like lumber and mining companies, when drilling on federal land, they pay about 10% of the royalties charged by most states and private landowners. That is why they love to gobbel up federal land.

Also, they spend huge amounts of money to avoid paying even those small royalties. And, the Bush administration has done little to fight for the money owed to the American people from multi-national oil companies.

In essence, they are stealing natural resources from our federal lands, and charging us an arm and a leg to sell it back to us. That is the reason for the fight over off-shore drilling. Those areas are federally owned, and they have no intention of reimbursing the government for taking our oil.

Dumb Question: Oil pays a lot of taxes. However, what PERCENTAGE of their income do they pay ? And what is the amount they get in tax breaks ? And do they pay a “market rate” for drilling on federally owned land ?
