Yesterday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Iraqi cleric Muqtada al-Sadr “intends to disarm his once-dominant Mahdi Army militia and remake it as a social-services organization.” Commenting on the article on his radio show yesterday, right-wing talker Rush Limbaugh joked that Sadr, whom he calls “Mookie,” had “thrown his hands in with the left over there” and that “his boys are going to become community organizers.” Limbaugh then compared Sadr to American civil rights organizations, saying they are both intent on “disrupting the society“:
Seriously, that’s what he’s going to do. They’re going to — social services, education, social justice. I guess Mookie’s thrown his hands in with the left over there. He’s going to throw down the weapons and start disrupting the society much like the civil rights organizations here in this country have tried to do to ours.

However, with all the blow-back Obama is getting for this, I find it extremely ironic that members of “the party of personal responsibility” and hammering him because he is suggesting that we can help lessen our dependence upon foreign oil by taking personal responsibility to conserve and use it more efficiently. I remember vividly the fight for racial integration in the 60’s, and even though I wasn’t quite an adult, I remember the images we received from the Jim Crow states — black Americans being set upon by police dogs and high-pressure fire hoses. And it was the conservatives of that day who were claiming that it was the protesters who were the disruptive ones.

Well, isn’t that exactly what civil rights leaders do? I know this isn’t what Jeff Christie meant when he said it, but I like to think that the point of social movements is to disrupt a society. “Society” isn’t always a good thing. It can be racist or bigoted or corrupt or repressive or exploitative, and social movements like the labor movement and the civil rights movement and the peace movement and the environmental movement are all about disrupting those societies.

So why don’t the “journalists” in this country ask him the obvious line of questioning:
1) Are you saying that civil rights organizations and their membership are not part of “our” society?
2) If no, then what is it about their activity that is disruptive to society outside the bounds of the freedoms guaranteed by the constitution to all members of our society (speech, assembly, bear arms, etc.)?
3) If yes, how do you delineate the boundaries of “our” society? Civil rights organizations often raise issues of ethnic inequities in society; are you suggesting that members of civil rights organizations are “uppity”?
“Journalists” should be prepared to follow these lines of questioning down the entire flowchart of possible responses, as it’s clear what limpballs is implying but no one has the testes to call him on it. This di*k needs to be backed into a corner every time he pops off this way, but no one seems willing to do it.

Thanks for your concern about my health, little guy, I am doing just fine thanks. I do have a job and can’t spend all my time pissing on trolls, but I do what I can.
Not a lot of things I hate, lots more things I love and am proud of, but I think pbg said it about as well as I could.
You pieces of shit who defend the hate brokers like Limbaugh, and Hannity and Coulter are my enemy. It’s not hate I feel though, more like disgust and a tinge of pity for someone who carries a black hole where their heart and self esteem should be.
What went wrong in your upbringing to cause your morals to rot like a potato gone bad? Must have been something horribly askew somewhere.
