Flashback: In 2007, McCain said, ‘Paris Hilton is the kind of issue that gets more attention’ than it deserves.

paris.jpgThe McCain campaign’s “celebrity” attack ad against Barack Obama, linking him to Paris Hilton and Britney Spears, recently provoked a response ad from Hilton herself. The McCain campaign has now politicized and embraced Hilton. But in September 2007, John McCain told MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews that Paris Hilton is “the kind of issue” that seems to “get a lot more attention than maybe some of us think” it deserves:

MATTHEWS: Here’s a hard call for you. Given everything that’s happening out in Vegas right now, and Clark County, and you know what’s going on in the news with O.J. — and let me put this in the language of the streets, can the Juice get a fair trial?

MCCAIN: I don’t know. I would not know about that. The last time a lot of people were surprised that he got at least what was in his view a fair trial. But, honestly, I have not been keeping up with it as much as I should have maybe, because it’s certainly — this and Paris Hilton are the kind of issues that seem to get a lot more attention than maybe some of us think they deserve. [MSNBC Hardball, 9/17/07]

  5. misshusseinmolly says:

McCain has said a number of things I have agreed with over the years (and many things I haven’t). It’s disappointing that almost without exception, the things I have agreed with are things he has changed his position on.

This is just the latest example. Paris Hilton has gotten a lot more attention than she probably deserves, but enough that the McCain campaign has no problem exploiting that attention for their own purposes. And the fact that Paris’ parents contributed the max to McCain’s campaign didn’t even slow them up.

  6. DieNowForPeace says:

Obama is getting more attention than he deserves simply because of his “rock star” persona.

It’s not his fault you have an inferiority complex.

“…McCain…has now…embraced Paris Hilton. …McCain told MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews that Paris Hilton is ‘the kind of issue’ that seems to ‘get a lot more attention than maybe some of us think they deserve.’”

I can guarantee that any issue from Paris Hilton resulting from an embrace by McDeadnuts will deserve all the attention it gets.

…. and that was exactly the point of McCain’s ad. Obama is getting more attention than he deserves simply because of his “rock star” persona.
    _____________________________________________

Gee – and I thought it was because of his “presidential candidate” persona.

How much attention do you think a presumptive nominee for President “deserves”? Do you think a presidential candidate deserves more or less attention than a shallow socialite?

More attention than he deserves because he has charisma?

I thought you “conservatives” were opposed to the Fairness Doctrine and now that the shoe is on the other foot, you want to bring it back?

Then why is 71% of all news media coverage on Obama negative?

The only thing that is keeping McCain in the race is lack of news media coverage. If they ever start paying attention to his campaign, he is sunk.

    Zooey,

Unfortunately, this is one of the signs that we live in the Enquirer/People magazine world now. Nobody wants to know about positions, stances (other than wide ones in MPLS), or anything important.

That is also why all the ‘reality’ shows have done so well too; people want to be spoon-fed their news, their entertainment and told what to believe and how to vote.

I’m not so sure it’s as hopeless as that, upside. Societies go through “active” and “passive”, or complacent, stages in cycles. While we have clearly, until recently, been in a passive state there’s every reason to believe we’re waking up.

People are forming strong opinions and making them heard while the broken parts of the system are revealing themselves as they crumble. It’s a frightening time, and a hopeful one.

Our society has, historically, responded to challenges. If, as I suspect, we are aware that our government needs fixing I have every reason to believe we will fix it. The only question is whether we can get it done with our votes or, we’ll need to go the torch and pitchfork route.

I still have a little hope. On good days.

While Bushco may appear to be the most corrupt government we’ve had to deal with, part of that is do to better recording methods and the freshness of our outrage. And even if the next generation is no better, We the People still have unprecedented access to evidence of corruption. No matter how reluctant the MSM is to show it.

If, as I suspect, Sen. Obama is elected and returns a culture of accountability to the White House? It won’t take many “good” ones WE ELECT to clean up the legislative branch. I’m afraid the Judicial Branch will be an ongoing nightmare.

Either way, I’m willing to wait another “election cycle” before I stock up on pointy sticks or incendiary devices.

NOTE: Armed troops, be they G.I. or Blackwater, on U.S. streets would change my patient approach. Same for an overt attempt to stop, or steal, an election.

The Obama campaign has an “apparent” problem with Hilton’s ad?

What in the world are you talking about?

Haven’t you punk’d yourself enough already?

  103. Gregor Samsa says:

Although, I have to say, I watched Hilton’s ad on Jay Leno last night (I think it was last night) and I was surprised to find out she can talk. And string together complete, coherent English sentences. Who knew!

  104. DieNowForPeace says:

surprised to find out she can talk.

That, and suck a mean dick on nightvision.

    Once a stupid whore….

  105. Paul W says:

…this and Paris Hilton are the kind of issues that seem to get a lot more attention than maybe some of us think they deserve.

Then why did McCain bring her up in the first place? Idiot!

    As Paris Hilton said:

    “Take that biatches!”

Washington Times: Profanity greater on liberal blogs

    This is shocking and disturbing.

This finding cannot be true and must be debunked. Along with the news that Bruce Ivins, the anthrax terrorist, was a Registered Democrat., as per BradBlog this morning.

Yes, Bruce Ivins a registered Democrat, was determined to kill other registered Democrats. Why? Because they were registered Democrats, just like him.

Hey, knucklehead, next time you find something this stupid, do yourself a favor and don’t post it.

  108. shoeless says:

Oh yeah, and stop reading the Moonie Times, ya freak.

  109. KayInMaine says:

You gotta hand it to Paris Hilton….her ad grabbed the old white hair guy by the testicles and she still hasn’t let go! I love that.

  110. DieNowForPeace says:

    They can’t help it.

    Too stoopid.
