Boehner: The American Public Will ‘Hang’ Nancy Pelosi

House Republicans are incensed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) refuses to cave to their political grandstanding and call Congress back into session. The GOP has promised to continue pushing for oil drilling until the Democratic convention in late August.

There’s no question that the conservative rhetoric surrounding their political stunt has been hyperbolic. Earlier this week, Rep. John Shadegg (R-AZ) called it the “2008 version of the Boston Tea Party.” Rep. Don Manzullo (R-IL) called it “America’s greatest hour.” But House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today went a step further, ratcheting up violent rhetoric to rail against Pelosi. The Crypt reports:

Responding to questions over whether Pelosi could call a special session - which Democrats insist won’t happen - and vote on other issues that Republicans may not want to face, such as an expansion of childrens’ health insurance programs, which President Bush and GOP congressional leaders have opposed.

“She’s gonna bring us back and not deal with it? The American people are gonna hang her,” Boehner said. When pressed further, Boehner said it would “be fine, as long as we get a vote on our bill.”

Conservatives have also taken to calling Pelosi “Marie Antoinette,” the French queen who is portrayed in history as having ignored the suffering masses. She was eventually beheaded. TechRepublican has referred to the debacle as a “revolution.”

Boehner did not include Bush, who has also refused to call an emergency session of Congress, in his hanging statement. Ironically, Boehner has also been absent for this “revolution,” spending time at home golfing while his colleagues have been in the Capitol.

Digg It!

UpdateStatement from Rep. George Miller (D-CA) regarding Boehner's comments:
Mr. Boehner's comments about the Speaker are offensive, inappropriate and deliberately misleading.

First of all, no public official should use language implying bodily harm to anyone, whether they are referring to the Speaker of the House or any other American. That is completely outrageous.

Secondly, the minority leader knows full well that the Republican Congress and President Bush have spent their entire political capital defending oil companies and keeping America dependent on oil. They wound up in the minority as a result. They have now voted against or vetoed nearly every single effort Democrats have put forward over the past two years to make America more energy efficient and less reliant on foreign oil, steps that are necessary to grow our economy and save consumers money.

UpdateStatement from Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA): "Assertions of physical violence toward the Speaker of the House have no place in the halls of Congress. Period. After a week stuck in an echo-chamber of their own making, this group of Republicans has turned ugly. Democracy is about settling differences through debate, without violence. It is unfortunate that the Minority Leader allowed violence to creep into his overheated rhetoric."

Ah, but where is the sharp but funny DNC ad making fun of this cretin? Where is the sarcasm, wit and (in this case well deserved) scorn and ridicule for the Republicans and the Boner in particular?

  6. Hardy Haberman Says:

American's already want to string up Pelosi. The main reason being her refusal to put impeachment "back on the table" after so much evidence that Bush and his criminal cronies have committed high crimes!

If I were a part of the republican Kabuki theater in D.C. right now, I would really be worried.

At the rate that oil prices are declining, they may soon end up in the same boat as the doctor who delayed a patient's appointment so long that they got better all by themselves.

Imagine the embarrassment if Boehner has to stand up in front of the cameras after they have to call off their stunt when the price per barrel dips below $100.

Just like the famous SNL character, poor John will have to say, "Never mind". I am sure that will bring him to tears.

  9. Crusty Old Bastard Says:

"'The American people are gonna hang her,' Boehner said."

He is absolutely right! Pelosi is gone! But not because she won't listen to Boner and the Prostates but because she won't listen to the true concerned citizens. She traded Impeachment and George WTF for Rethulican favors and lost her ass long before next November.

Maybe since Edwards is a private citizen, TP thinks that it is none of it's business what Edwards does in private.

But, I'm happy to talk about Edward's sin of adultery. But if we start doing that, then I think that we need to have a thorough discussion about John McCain's adultery while his crippled wife sat at home after waiting for him for five years. At least John didn't abandon his wife the way McCain did.

  11. machost Says:

Ah, but Tom, when the price of oil is below $100 by the end of this stunt, then Boner will take credit for the drop and claim that they Have to Drill Here, Drill Now to keep it low.

  25. Gregor Samsa Says:

"Don't change the subject to McCain"?

Well, that is rich -considering the topic of the thread is the Republican grandstanding.

On topic, it is interesting that Republicans compare Pelosi to Marie Antoinette. That would make the Republicans, what, the Jacobins? I thought they couldn't stand the French.

Although it would be fitting, since the Jacobins also tried to control the populace through the use of fear...

  26. pete Says:

    Dear troll,

You don't get to decide the topic of the threads. This thread, for instance, is about the disingenuous Rep reps and their panic to give the oil industry new leases before they lose their power altogether.

The last time I checked Mr. Edwards wasn't running for anything or setting policy and didn't figure in Today's discussion of energy policy.

  31. machost Says:

MyNameIsJonas... talk about changing subjects, did you notice this story is about Boehner and his stage of stooges? It was never about John Edwards.

But to give you even an ounce of the respect you undoubtedly would never give naturally, I doubt anyone here will make excuses or "forgive" John Edwards. His actions were reprehesible and my heart goes out to his wife and family. But once again you hypocritical "moralists" are all about calling as many kettles black as you can. Were you all over the boards when your buddy Larry Craig was looking for love in all the wrong places? How 'bout for Mark Foley? You guys get your panties in such a wad when someone other than you is getting sex...

You should reevaluate your priorities, "my friend". Seems to me you bible thumping, judgemental hypocrites should spend a lot more time in church asking your God to forgive you for supporting the men responsible for the torture, murder, corruption etc. that has destroyed the moral fabric and reputation of this country. “We are too dumb and scared to take the challenge in post number six and even try to defend the misconduct of our hero-progressive, John Edwards. That’s why we make up ludicrous BS-excuses like changing the subject or improperly reminding others what the real topic of this thread is (Pelosi and Dem-congress obstuctionism, right?). Despite the fact that post six called out TP on its hypocrisy of hiding the biggest scandal of the year in the John Edwards fiasco, we all act defensively and start name-calling the brave soul in post number six.”

Hahahahahaha…..when will a progressive here grow a set of test*cles and finally even try to defend Edwards’ behavior?! I’m waiting…

Now that shows a lot of hypocrisy, not to mention a total lack of testosterone.

I have long tried to give Nancy Pelosi the benefit of the doubt; I assume she took impeachment off the table because she believed it would either fail, or that Bush would simply pardon everybody involved. I have faith there will be criminal indictments handed out aplenty once the lunatics are out of the White House - and if Bush and Cheney choose to leave the country to avoid being arrested, so much the better. I kinda like the idea of the two of them forced into exile.

I could be wrong - Ms. Pelosi may be just utterly out of touch with sentiments beyond the Beltway. Nevertheless, the idea that the electorate will 'hang' her for refusing to go along with Republican wingnut grandstanding is so ridiculous it makes me laugh out loud. What world is Boehner living in, anyway? Geez, what an optimist...

Calling the first woman Speaker of the House, an elected and accomplished grandmother, "Marie Antoinette" is beneath comtempt. The man just spews sewage for a living, all over the country he's supposed to serve.

  49. Max-1 Says:

    #47 cmac,
Pelosi took impeachment "off the table" because keeping it on the table would expose her as being "IN" on torture and treason. She's been briefed on the torture and the spying of Americans and yet has refused to support and defend the principles and morals of the Constitution and honor her Oath to her constituents and as House Speaker, to the Nation.

Impeachment proceedings against Bush WILL BAR HIM from presumptively pardoning "other people" involved in the High Crimes of this Administration. Know this, Bush can not pardon those under investigation... only AFTER. However, currently he could issue a preemptive pardons for these criminals because they were "acting in accordance to National Security." This includes those who penned TORTURE, SPYING, and misappropriation of intelligence to start TWO wars! There is no investigation currently... Mukasey has refused to take up ANY toward this Administration.

PELOSI is the House's Presidential Protectorate,
    Conyers is her House Slave...
Mukasey is the DOJ's Presidential Protectorate.

We really need to be asking...
    WHY DOES PELOSI PROTECT TREASON?

I thought there's a mature adult response and my opinion of McCain ticked up a notch. I had forgotten his own story of marital infidelity (which the corporate media never talks about).
MCCAIN CAN'T COMMENT BECAUSE HE'S DONE THE SAME THING (BUT WORSE).
Karl Rove's dance partner, David Gregory opened his show with
"WILL JOHN EDWARD'S AFFAIR CAUSE A PROBLEM FOR OBAMA?"
It seems to me that bringing this up won't hurt Obama, it will open up discussion of McCain's character.

  53. cmac Says:

As I said before, Max-1, I'm still giving her the benefit of the doubt. Conviction requires a two-thirds vote of the Senate, so it's likely that any impeachment would result in an acquittal. Afterwards, of course, Bush would be free to issue his pardons.

  54. DieNowForPeace Says:

    Hell yes, rep. Miller:

the minority leader knows full well that the Republican Congress and President Bush have spent their entire political capital defending oil companies and keeping America dependent on oil. Lovely.

  55. Max-1 Says:

    #54 cmac,
And as I've said before, without an investigation how can a jury even deliberate? Hell, you can't even hold court without a proper investigation.

WHAT KIND OF PROSECUTION HANGS IT'S HAT ON IF A JURY WILL CONVICT?

And should there be an investigation and impeachment from the House, at least HISTORY BOOKS will then be pleat with evidence that the People attempted to do something. At this stage of the "game" I see you still making the case that the trial depends on the jury's verdict... a cart before the horse.

I say, let the Senate discuss why usurpation of Congress is acceptable!
I say, let the Senate discuss how lying to the Senate is acceptable!
I say, let the Senate discuss the disdain for the Rule of Law as being an American Principle!

Yes, I'll give you your argument. Many in the Senate are beholden to $$$ and protect the BushCo. I say, let the cleansing light in. Why keep arguing to keep them shielded from exposure.

Currently, Bush can still issue pardons... presumptively. How is this any different than your argument that after an acquittal he could?

    .

  56. Max-1 Says:

    p.s.
    cmac,
And then at least then we'll have them on record and know who supports the usurpation of Congress, Lying, Fraud, Murder, Disdain for the Rule of Law... unamerican principles.

Well, I don't think it's appropriate to call for "hanging" someone, but I find it kind of ironic that the Republicans are experiencing some frustration with Madame Speaker.

Maybe now they know how we feel -- we've been frustrated with her and many of the other Congressional Democrats for about a year and a half now.

That said, I suspect the Republicans really don't care if offshore drilling gets green-lighted or not (except the ones who really depend on money from big oil) -- they know it's not going to affect gas prices. But they DO care about getting re-elected, and they have finally found an issue they can make a lot of noise about.

Even if this source is drastically wrong, by a factor of 100, that results in around 4,000 capped wells.

And even if there were no capped wells, that's not relevant to the question of why the Reichwing is lying about the urgent need to give the oil industry new leases.

I think the American public would cheer if she brought the House back into session and brought impeachment hearings to the fore.

  72. pete Says:

Despite you rude refusal to answer a simple question, I feel compelled to offer a bit of an education.

An oil well is typically taken out of production when 35% to 50% of the oil is extracted. Depending on various factors, from the "sweetness" of the oil to the amount of pressure do to natural gas, it eventually becomes less profitable to extract the remaining oil.

Far from not having any oil, these wells contain nearly half of our known reserves. It's just a case of extraction costs. Some could be brought back into production by simply installing a pump head or using a neighboring well to supply gas pressure.

And that doesn't even consider more exotic new technologies that companies like GRC offer. As I said, capped wells have little to do with my arguments reservations about giving the oil industry new leases.

The problem is that the facts don't match the rhetoric. All the evidence suggests that the neocons have manufactured a conflict over drilling to bolster their flagging hopes and they're willing to give in to the oil industry to give the appearance of "doing something". Even from the comfort of the local country club.

  73. barfly Says:

    obamagr8 Says:

    And here’s the Big Lie:

The oil industry is sitting on capped wells

Wrong. I lived in Oklahoma in the late seventies, and remember when the wells were capped, because Middle east oil was easier (and cheaper) to extract.

Smaller companies, like Hudson Oil, damn near went out of business, because they were using these leases specifically, and couldn't compete with Mid East oil.

What the Bush record on oil prices and energy dependence over all!

  82. Paul W Says:

The American Public Will ‘Hang’ Nancy Pelosi”

Possibly. But there are plenty of Republicans that will go first.

"obama's tire gauge plan" . . . a classic McSame talking point . . . how much is that one count toward a ride on the No Shit Express???

It was a quote from the AAA Guide, DOT, GM and the Tire Industry as an example of a simple thing a person could do . . . but the Wrinkled Old White Haired Guy thought it would "enrage" the asses . . ops , er MASSES.

nice try, but it won't get you your "Bus Pass" . . . and the 50"s Red Baiting is SO dated "Rush".

  84. pakaal Says:

Right, Pelosi, who has been married for 45 years and has five kids, yeah, she's just the epitome of those "SF values" the wingnuts keep harping on about.

I'm surprised the desperation is kicking in so early on the Right, these guys are now lashing out blindly. Sure, Obama's campaign is doing really well while McCain's struggling to figure out how to sell a candidate who frequents sausage restaurants and offers to have his wife strip in public, but even so, you'd think the party that promised itself a permanent majority just a few years ago, wouldn't have imploded so thoroughly.

And yet, they have. Go figure.

  85. Musk Says:

I keep telling you, Boehner, that the hairspray is for use on your hair . . . not for huffing. Maybe Nancy deserves to be hung, but not before we [the majority of Americans] hang Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Gonzales and several other people connected to the current administration, first. Damn, I can't believe I can't come up with the names of several other people in the Bush cabal, but I'm drawing a blank wight now. We can always hang you too, Boehner, just to break in the rope.

  86. stateofthedivision Says:

Boehner and company want people to send their receipts and stories of high gas prices to Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Only the Republicans are the abusers in the dark.

  87. TripleKick 9 Says:

How TP dummies are so concerned about this "hang Pelosi" comment, even though there are a plethora of death threats and wishes of physical harm to Republicans on virtually every thread on TP, including this one. Typical left.

Regardless, Pelosi is undoubtedly a horrible speaker. Likely the worst ever with her shameful 9% approval rating.
