Suskind posts transcript of interview implicating White House in forged letter.

One of the sources for Ron Suskind’s explosive revelation that the White House forged a letter on Iraq-9/11 ties, former CIA official Rob Richer, recently retracted his statements. Suskind has posted the transcript of his interview with Richer, where Richer states that the CIA was asked by the White House via George Tenet to write the letter:

Rob: To characterize it right, I would say, right: it came to us, George had a raised eyebrow, and basically we passed it on–it was to–and passed this on into the organization. You know, it was: ‘Okay, we gotta do this, but make it go away.’ … It was: ‘This is unbelievable. This is just like all the other garbage we get about … I mean Mohammad Atta and links to al Qaeda. ‘Rob,’ you know, ‘do something with this.’ I think it was more like that than: ‘Get this done.’ [...]

Rob: What I remember is George saying, ‘we got this from’–basically, from what George said was ‘downtown.’

Ron: Which is the White House?

Rob: Yes.

“In the next couple days the transcripts will be coming out,” Suskind said yesterday. “[T]he issues, in this matter, are simply too important to stand as discredited in any way,” he added.

Digg It!

Update Yesterday, on NPR's Fresh Air, Suskind said Richer and former CIA official John Maguire told him, "I'm ready to go in front of Senate committees, and House committees, I'm ready to have my moment."

so is the rest of the world. IMPEACH NOW!

Hmmm…. hard to contradict transcripts made from recordings, but I’m pretty sure that everyone will try.

And I’m not holding my breath waiting for Congress to open inquiries into this….

The Rico act needs to be applied to the Bush Administration.

Of course it will never happen because the Justice Dept has been corrupted and Congress, the Corporate Media and 25% of the population have their heads buried in the sand like ostriches.

Hmm… the trolls must not have gotten their talking points yet on how to smear Suskind…

    How tough can it be?

“He’s a slimy reporter just trying to sell books…”

Is that so hard, trolls? You just ignore the damning information and attack the messenger. It’s not like you haven’t done this before.

The problem for the neo-clown apologists is that Ron Suskind is ready to testify in front of Congress under oath.

The people that the ultra-radical neo-clowns use to refute any progressive facts refuse to testify under oath.

I guess they’re afraid of being guilty of “lying under oath”, not that it stopped Col. Oliver North. Hmmm…

“Under oath”? Big deal. That’s for pussies. Real men testify only in private, with no transcript and they don’t take stinkin’ oaths!

    Right, Karl?

It’s not just a shame, it’s criminal that no one gives a shit about this.

This kind of criminal activity is the wet dream of every and any investigative journalist. We no longer have any…but for a few here or there, all of which are labeled angry or liars.

We might as well face it, there is no more America. And this seals the deal. Nothing matters now. Our country is dead. The land remains to be sucked dry, just as its inhabitants. But as a nation, we might as well be Zimbabwe.

What you say is very true. However, I’d rather have people step up to the plate late rather than not at all. I am hoping that once Bushco loses its grip, we will have many more — and I hope they come forth even though they do so late in the game. We really need to find all the slime under the Bushney rock, even though we could have mitigated the carnage a lot more if we had known earlier.

    Definitely not a pee stain.

  24. tom says:

Hey, ralph. I think the tapes were transcribed at the University of Southern California; therefore, themis thinks that they’re So-Cal(ed).

  26. ralph the wonder llama says:

    misshusseinmolly Says:

I’d rather have people step up to the plate late rather than not at all.

Absolutely, missmolly. My concern is not even a partisan one; it’s for the health of the nation. The Nixon gang got off relatively scot-free in the seventies, and this criminal administration was the result.

Not only did they push their radical authoritarian agenda further, but they applied the lessons they learned, and tried to avoid the things that got them caught the last time — written records (oops! those emails must have gotten “lost”!), aides testifying before Congress, and “disloyalty” (otherwise known as “moral courage”).

Our nation is threatened, and its gravest threat is not from foreign terrorists.

  27. Above the Clouds says:

When will the Bush White House start releasing (leaking) all the secret information that will show them to be right in ANY aspect of their invasion and occupation of Iraq? One would think if there any such information it would be in the public domain by now (instead of all the lies, cover-ups, and revealing the identity of CIA agents). I guess Bush got what he deserved when he put his legacy in the hands of the neocons.

  28. VerbalKint says:

I guess a parallel would be the mentality of an abuse victim. Sometimes they can’t come to grips with the fact that someone (or something) they “love” is hurting them despite mounds of evidence to that effect. Devoted to the end. Sad really…

I suspect that for Themis, it’s not about right or wrong. It’s all about “winning”. He’s picked his team, and he’s going to root for that team’s victory, no matter what.

Therefore, he will clutch at any straw, point to any defect, distract with any shiny object necessary to keep out any rational thought that would disrupt his paradigm. And he will proudly stand on the deck of the sinking ship, saluting as he goes under.

For him, this is far preferable to saying, “I once believed in this administration, but the evidence of their criminal activities is too great to ignore any longer. I am disappointed, and I can no longer support them.”

He’s not alone. I would guess that most of the people in the 23% are people who are afraid of being viewed as wusses if they quit carrying the water for their team.

Excellent point. Since we wouldn’t DARE assume this troll lives by a double standard, he should be supporting full disclosure for all of this.

Oh, and since he doesn’t live by a double standard, I’m sure that he supported Clinton’s innocence of any sexual shenanigans in the Oval Office right up until the GAP dress surfaced — right?

This is just great. How much worse does it have to get before the Democratic leadership in congress is willing to take action. This is enough evidence to at least hold hearings…

If the Democrats and still afraid about appearing “soft” on terrorism or whatever, they should look at the polls. The American people want Justice and frankly view the Republican party at the same level as organized crime.

The time will never be better to finally get to the bottom of the wide-spread lawbreaking that has taken place under Bush.

Of course, if the Democratic leadership aided such lawbreaking, they may not want hearing because they too will be implicated…

    Sigh… what a country….
