The Financial Times reports that Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) campaign is vetting Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) as a potential vice presidential running mate. One adviser said, “[McCain] loves Lieberman. And he is on the [short-]list because Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken. The first rule is, don’t take someone who costs you votes.” The adviser also added, however, that many conservatives “would be pissed as hell.” Lieberman will also likely attend the GOP convention and may be speaking there.
"Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken..."
Where the hell has that fool been?
He sure isn't talking about the LIE-berfauxthug we have all come to know and laugh at.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:03 pmWould that be a ticket or what?
Those two would be like an old vaudeville show.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:10 pmYeah. For about ten seconds. The most important "idea" in the con's "mind" is to be against Democrats/Progressives. E.g., remember when the slime machine derided Kerry as "Hanoi John" for speaking truth to his own government in the 70s? When they ridiculed Kerry as a "flip-flopper" even though it was one instance when it was actually two different bills? For marrying money? Now they're pushing a candidate so beloved for singing their praises by Hanoi's Commies they called him "Songbird." A guy who's flip-flopped too often to count, even taking positions opposing his own bills. A guy who married money after his wife was crippled. A walk through the GOP electorate's sea of conviction wouldn't get one's toenails wet.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:13 pmOh I so want him to do that. The conservatives will go crazy. They hate LIEberman. But, then, pretty much anyone with a brain hates LIEberman.
On another hand, if you didn't go to the link a previous poster left here about John McCain (it was in regards to Cindy's drug problems), please go read it. It is long, but certainly worth the read. Then send it to everyone you know who is a conservative.
The reporter who wrote the article is from Arizona and she has been writing about McCain since way back when he moved to Arizona to run for political office. How many people knew that he did not live in Arizona before he went into politics? Anyway, the article takes you through McCain's early years and then the Keating Five scandal. She then says something I have always believed about McCain. Up until that time he was a rabid right wing Republican. But, in order to do something about his seriously damaged public image, he started reaching across the aisle occasionally and that's when he started defining himself as a "maverick".
Read the article, you won't be wasting your time. There are some real gems in there.
I apologize to whomever first posted this link, I didn't find it when I went back looking for it. Identify yourself and take credit please!

August 9th, 2008 at 2:14 pmA move to the center, could help mccain, since the right wing is pretty lockstep republican. The conservatives may hold their noses and vote for him, but they won't GOTV.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:16 pmAdvantage: Obama.

I don't know about that. A lot of conservatives, especially the religious right, are very ambivalent about McCain. If he chooses LIEberman as his running mate, many of them are going to get so disgusted they just won't vote. A Republican not voting is just as good for the Democrats as a Republican who voted for a Democrat.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:17 pmLieberman as VP means that for the second straight administration a VP will be in charge at the White House.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:18 pmMake my day!
August 9th, 2008 at 2:19 pmPut him on the ticket!
No, stewajt, what it means is that Lieberman will be the first man to lose as V. P. both as a Democrat and as a Republican.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:22 pmObama should trump McCain's Jew with a better Jew - - pick Russ Feingold, Barack.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:26 pmI'm with Ralph on this one..... let him set a new record for fail.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:26 pmPutting these two shameless warmongers in the White House could potentially destabilize the world even further than Bush and Cheney have managed to do.

August 9th, 2008 at 2:28 pmWell. It would be a good way to get "Holy" Joe's BFF Hagee back in the fold. Plus, McSpin is used to having his hand up his backside.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:29 pmThanks for that great laugh, Ralph!
OMG, the religious right will go apesh*t if Lieberman is the pick! He's pro-choice, and there is just no way that they would vote for a ticket where the second in line for the presidency is for preserving a woman's right to choose.
I know several BAC's (born again Christians) and they are talking about simply staying home to "teach the party a lesson" in an attempt to wield more power in the future. This would be the last straw for them!
Do it, John, do it! What a great gift that would be for our side!
PEACE
August 9th, 2008 at 2:30 pmOT, but we've been watching the Olympics last night and today, and I've seen several McCain ads slamming Obama, and NO ads from Obama's camp.
WTF?
PEACE
August 9th, 2008 at 2:32 pmSaw this one coming from a mile away.....
McCain is grasping at straws, trying to reach any demographics that he can. Unfortunately, I don't think this one will help him as much as he might expect it to....

However a walk through the GOP incumbent's convictions could get you 25 to life.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:40 pmIf it comes to pass, may Joe help John's chances as much as it helped Al's.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:44 pmNever misspoken?? Good Lord, these guys really are such compulsive liars they don't even recognize a lie anymore.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:47 pmLieberman and Hagee are best buddies... Lieberman was at the latest CUFI meeting
Max Blumenthal had a post up about it
the repubs can have LIEberman -- just like they embraced crazy ole' Zell Miller in 2004.
August 9th, 2008 at 2:49 pmDoes any one really think that LIEberman wouldn't immediately flip-flop on his abortion stance.
Don't fool yourself, spencers mom, the evangelicals love this guy; his war mongering is a sign of the end times for them.

August 9th, 2008 at 3:06 pmTwo old lying traitorous war criminals for the price of one. Sounds like a bargain to me... Actually, all this speculation is moot, because the Republicans will have to replace McBabbler, because of his senility. Hang on to your hats, folks, it's going to be a wild ride to the November elections...
August 9th, 2008 at 3:06 pmForget short list.
LIEberman is on my sh_t list for being a Warmonger, War Criminal, a Traitor to the American People (see: Israeli Lobby) and for gutting the Constitution and The Bill of Rights.

Pennsylvania, Philly NBC feed. And yet another McCain spot, although he is running the same ad over and over. It's the one where he claims Barack will raise taxes and cut jobs, followed by Grampy and the wind farm graphic.

August 9th, 2008 at 3:21 pmHe'll never do it. We may hate Lieberman for the lying traitorous scumbag he is, but the Repug base sees him as pro-choice, Jewish and dangerously left wing. My bet's on Romney. "Cause, hey, if the Repugs were willing to elect Dan Quayle as VP all those years ago, they shouldn't have any problem with Mitt. Except for the Mormon thing. But at least he's white, and rich, and a Republican.
August 9th, 2008 at 3:21 pmlieberman, invasion, mcchimpy, oil
August 9th, 2008 at 3:22 pmWell, at least we will be able to recycle all those right wing "loserman" bumperstickers.
August 9th, 2008 at 3:22 pmI hope so. This would fire up the Democratic base and result in a massive landslide for Obama.
McGramps/LIEbermann 2008!
August 9th, 2008 at 3:29 pmNot only on his short list, but also on the short planebus.
Who else would screw a fellow democratic candidate by changing his affiliation? A low-life the grinnin lieberman that's who.
August 9th, 2008 at 3:34 pm"don’t take someone who costs you votes.”
In 2000, he cost Al Gore more votes than Nader did.

August 9th, 2008 at 3:54 pm
Go for it Joe...although my dream ticket is McSame and Fred Thompson...talk about electric!
August 9th, 2008 at 4:03 pmPlease pick that self righteous ass, I can't wait until we win 5 or 6 seats in the senate and can kick that d-bag out of his leadership role.
August 9th, 2008 at 4:13 pmGreat news. This should confuse the hardcore righties even more about their leadership. After all, when you play the middle like Lieberman does, everyone wants to be your friend!
Lieberman is the bat in the War Between the Animals...
August 9th, 2008 at 4:14 pmLieberman is an embarrassment to the human race. The ideal choice for McQueeq.
August 9th, 2008 at 4:17 pmLIEberman is a neoCON through and through. He's guilty of treason, continuously selling this country it out for Israel. He should be brought to trial for War Crimes.
You what's the worst thing for me: I voted for him and Gore.
That is one vote I wish I could rescind.
This turncoat is dispicable to the core.

August 9th, 2008 at 4:22 pmBarack Obama gave the Democratic Response to the President's Radio Address on c-span just now.
Pretty darned good. He tied Bush to the Trillions of dollars spent in Iraq ( a country with 29 Billion $$$ in the Bank). Obama suggested what the money spent in Iraq could do for AMERICA'S Infrastructure and America's Deficit.
And best of all... he tied Sen. McCain to Bush's policy.
Once again, Obama demonstrates his intelligence, by letting McCain go first with his Negative Attacks, and then responding with this devastating, and TRUE, counter attack.

Oh I so want him to do that. The conservatives will go crazy. They hate LIEberman. But, then, pretty much anyone with a brain hates LIEberman.
I just don't see that, Bilbo. All I've ever heard from "conservatives" is that Lieberman is the only Democrat they have any respect for and they love the whole pro-Israeli, pro-BushWar mentality of his. When he was running against Lamont, all we heard from them was about how the Democrats were so terrible for "dumping" him.
Furthermore, it would be touted as the final proof that McCain was "reaching across the aisle" as Obama never would -- and we all know that the country needs a real bipartisan president like McBush, right?
Oh, and they'd get to pat themselves on the back for voting for a Jew. "It's the Dems who are antisemitic!"
August 9th, 2008 at 5:03 pm.
I told my family, ardent die hard Republicans, last January that the Republican candidate will be John McCain/Lieberman. They laughed in my face...
But I was serious at the time. My gut said to me then that it doesn't matter who the Democratic Party nominates...
... Dieblod counts the vote.
Of course, being staunch Conservatives, they don't see the light of truth. Instead they tune in bigot Rush, Faxpravda, and lick up Falafel Bill...
I'm such the black sheep of the family I was born into...
... I pray for them daily.
.
August 9th, 2008 at 5:33 pmSheesh, Max-1, and I thought I was alone as the black sheep (democratic) in a republican (even worse born again christian) family. It would be nice to shit both McCain and Lieberman out of the Senate, but I'm not much in favor of either one in the executive branch.
God, please, that would be even worse than Bush/Cheney if you can believe that.

Maybe old [its all about ME ME ME!] Joe will finally get the message.
August 9th, 2008 at 6:29 pmOT I just heard President Bush on the Nightly News.
He was sternly condemming Russia for attacking a SOVEREIGN COUNTRY. Pathetic.
Thanks to Bush, there is a Major War Brewing in the Caucases, and America has NO MORAL STANDING.
August 9th, 2008 at 6:41 pmLIEberman is an excellent choice, McSame.
Well done! :-D
August 9th, 2008 at 6:51 pmI'm with Gummitch above, he has just enough going for him that the Republicans would see this as simultaneously a slap in the face to Dems and a pull for conservative-leaning Dems to vote Republican.
Note I said "the Republicans would see this...." not "It would be...." I don't think any ticket with McCain on it is a winning ticket, but I think there's a perception on their side of this idea being appealing to centrists.
In the end I think they may just ask McCain to step aside at the Republican convention. If so, it's REALLY all going to go down the toilet for them. McCain will not go quietly. It'll get ugly.
August 9th, 2008 at 7:26 pmYES!!!
PLEASE let it be Joe Lieberman!!!
Can you say "President Obama"?
I KNEW that you could!!!
August 9th, 2008 at 7:30 pmThis would be a dream come true. Could you just see the VPs during debate.
August 9th, 2008 at 8:37 pmShort list this, Joe.
Of course Obama could still name a corporatist VP. Troubling that. He needs to make a real difference, not a compromise. I fear I will be pissed.
August 9th, 2008 at 8:53 pmSheeeeesh, of course he is, Lieberman has had his nose so far up the GOP's and McBush's ass he is brown from ear to ear.
August 9th, 2008 at 9:53 pmHere's hoping. This will shore up McCain's loss in Connecticut. Other than that, I see no other upside for McCain.

Hello, moral sewer.
The founding fathers would be aghast at the country we now inhabit.
August 10th, 2008 at 5:41 amRefreshing that Lieberman and McCain are able to think for themselves and ignore the party line when the party is wrong.
August 10th, 2008 at 3:11 pmO.K. How about this for a campaign slogans:
Two Grumpy Old Men in '08!
Dumb and Dumber in '08!
The Gentile and The Jew in '08!
It doen't matter a bit who McSame as Bush selects, he ain't getting elected.
Check it out here:
Don't pass up the "View Stats" page.
August 10th, 2008 at 7:32 pmThe one thing going for Lieberman is that he keeps up with current events when compared to Grumpy Grandpa McCain and Ms. Buffalo Chip '08.
So I guess the campaign may finally decided to add a fact checker of sorts!
August 11th, 2008 at 12:03 am"Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken."
