Lieberman reportedly on McCain’s VP ‘short-list.’

The Financial Times reports that Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) campaign is vetting Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) as a potential vice presidential running mate. One adviser said, “[McCain] loves Lieberman. And he is on the [short-]list because Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken. The first rule is, don’t take someone who costs you votes.” The adviser also added, however, that many conservatives “would be pissed as hell.” Lieberman will also likely attend the GOP convention and may be speaking there.

"Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken..."

Where the hell has that fool been?

He sure isn't talking about the LIE-berfauxthug we have all come to know and laugh at.

  2. dumbstruck Says:

Would that be a ticket or what?

Those two would be like an old vaudeville show.

  3. cavjam Says:

Yeah. For about ten seconds. The most important "idea" in the con's "mind" is to be against Democrats/Progressives. E.g., remember when the slime machine derided Kerry as "Hanoi John" for speaking truth to his own government in the 70s? When they ridiculed Kerry as a "flip-flopper" even though it was one instance when it was actually two different bills? For marrying money? Now they're pushing a candidate so beloved for singing their praises by Hanoi's Commies they called him "Songbird." A guy who's flip-flopped too often to count, even taking positions opposing his own bills. A guy who married money after his wife was crippled. A walk through the GOP electorate's sea of conviction wouldn't get one's toenails wet.

  4. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

Oh I so want him to do that. The conservatives will go crazy. They hate LIEberman. But, then, pretty much anyone with a brain hates LIEberman.

On another hand, if you didn't go to the link a previous poster left here about John McCain (it was in regards to Cindy's drug problems), please go read it. It is long, but certainly worth the read. Then send it to everyone you know who is a conservative.

The reporter who wrote the article is from Arizona and she has been writing about McCain since way back when he moved to Arizona to run for political office. How many people knew that he did not live in Arizona before he went into politics? Anyway, the article takes you through McCain's early years and then the Keating Five scandal. She then says something I have always believed about McCain. Up until that time he was a rabid right wing Republican. But, in order to do something about his seriously damaged public image, he started reaching across the aisle occasionally and that's when he started defining himself as a "maverick".

Read the article, you won't be wasting your time. There are some real gems in there.

I apologize to whomever first posted this link, I didn't find it when I went back looking for it. Identify yourself and take credit please!

A move to the center, could help mccain, since the right wing is pretty lockstep republican. The conservatives may hold their noses and vote for him, but they won't GOTV.

Yeah. For about ten seconds. The most important “idea” in the con’s “mind” is to be against Democrats/Progressives.

I don't know about that. A lot of conservatives, especially the religious right, are very ambivalent about McCain. If he chooses LIEberman as his running mate, many of them are going to get so disgusted they just won't vote. A Republican not voting is just as good for the Democrats as a Republican who voted for a Democrat.

Lieberman as VP means that for the second straight administration a VP will be in charge at the White House.

No, stewajt, what it means is that Lieberman will be the first man to lose as V. P. both as a Democrat and as a Republican.

  14. spencers mom Says:

Thanks for that great laugh, Ralph!

OMG, the religious right will go apesh*t if Lieberman is the pick! He's pro-choice, and there is just no way that they would vote for a ticket where the second in line for the presidency is for preserving a woman's right to choose.

I know several BAC's (born again Christians) and they are talking about simply staying home to "teach the party a lesson" in an attempt to wield more power in the future. This would be the last straw for them!

Do it, John, do it! What a great gift that would be for our side!

Lieberman to Katrina victims: Drop Dead

    By Mary MacElveen

    January 13, 2007

In a statement released by Leslie Phillips who is Senator Joe Lieberman’s chief committee spokeswoman and as reported by Newsweek she stated, “The senator now intends to focus his attention on the future security of the American people and other matters and does not expect to revisit the White House’s role in Katrina,” In my previous column blasting Lieberman for his support of Bush’s plan as it pertains to Iraq and beyond, I asked whose side is Joe Lieberman on when it comes to our country. In this heartless statement by his spokeswoman, he just told New Orleans to drop dead as if they did not have enough death when it came to Katrina.

If we were to relive a civil war today within this country I would suspect that the people of Louisiana would march on Connecticut embroiled in anger that they chose to re-elect a man who has turned his back on their citizens. Living in the North, I would be on the side of this southern state. I sincerely hope that the people in Connecticut who voted for Lieberman are ashamed since they ought to be.

In blasting Senator Chuck Hagel he called him partisan, and I want to remind everyone that Katrina is not a partisan issue, but a human issue.

As his spokeswoman stated, “The senator is an independent Democrat and answers only to the people who elected him to office and to his own conscience.” Let us make one clarification here. He is not a Democrat, but an Independent. He is only caucusing with the Democrats and basically holding the senate hostage. If he were to decide to caucus with the Republicans, then the balance of power would shift.

    --snip--

The one man that I would especially love to see confront Senator Lieberman is, Herbert Freeman Jr. You may be asking who he is. His mother Ethel Freeman was the woman photographed dead in a wheel chair. She was 91 years old at the time of her death. In this article Remembering Ethel Freeman, her son stated, "Before this happened, no one knew she existed. I will go to my grave to return her dignity and respect, through the court system and through God." I ask that you read that article in full to realize how this elderly woman was left behind by the Bush administration.

Perhaps in Ethel Freeman’s memory and to help her son Herbert find justice for his deceased mother, you who read this piece can take a moment of your time by calling Senator Joe Lieberman’s office and state that it is time for him to actually give a damn for those that live within this country. These victims have suffered enough and for him to turn his back on them is unconscionable. Permanent Link

  46. Badger Says:

Barack Obama gave the Democratic Response to the President's Radio Address on c-span just now.

Pretty darned good. He tied Bush to the Trillions of dollars spent in Iraq ( a country with 29 Billion $$$ in the Bank). Obama suggested what the money spent in Iraq could do for AMERICA'S Infrastructure and America's Deficit.

And best of all... he tied Sen. McCain to Bush's policy.

Once again, Obama demonstrates his intelligence, by letting McCain go first with his Negative Attacks, and then responding with this devastating, and TRUE, counter attack.

I just don't see that, Bilbo. All I've ever heard from "conservatives" is that Lieberman is the only Democrat they have any respect for and they love the whole pro-Israeli, pro-BushWar mentality of his. When he was running against Lamont, all we heard from them was about how the Democrats were so terrible for "dumping" him.

Furthermore, it would be touted as the final proof that McCain was "reaching across the aisle" as Obama never would -- and we all know that the country needs a real bipartisan president like McBush, right?

Oh, and they'd get to pat themselves on the back for voting for a Jew. "It's the Dems who are antisemitic!"

    ... Dieblod counts the vote.

Of course, being staunch Conservatives, they don't see the light of truth. Instead they tune in bigot Rush, Faxpravda, and lick up Falafel Bill...

LIEberman is an excellent choice, McSame.

  59. pakaal Says:

I'm with Gummitch above, he has just enough going for him that the Republicans would see this as simultaneously a slap in the face to Dems and a pull for conservative-leaning Dems to vote Republican.

Note I said "the Republicans would see this...." not "It would be...." I don't think any ticket with McCain on it is a winning ticket, but I think there's a perception on their side of this idea being appealing to centrists.

In the end I think they may just ask McCain to step aside at the Republican convention. If so, it's REALLY all going to go down the toilet for them. McCain will not go quietly. It'll get ugly.
