U.S. intelligence agencies tapped Benazir Bhutto’s phone.

In his new book “The Way of the World,” Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Ron Suskind reveals that Vice President Cheney repeatedly backed Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf over former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, who was assassinated in December. According to Suskind, the State Department strongly backed Bhutto’s return to Pakistan, but Cheney opposed it, considering her “complicated and unpredictable.” Bhutto regretted that Cheney refused to pressure Musharraf to “behave,” and instead kept pressing her to reconcile with him. U.S. intelligence agencies also reportedly intercepted Bhutto’s phone calls “for months,” including a call made to her son.

Digg It!

If this can be proven, then it would be evidence that the Vice President was actively, and illegally, attempting to subvert official foreign policy. Isn't that a crime?

Meaning she wouldn't be a good little puppet like Musharraf. The US tries to control every square inch of the planet---either directly or indirectly. A lot of the time there is blowback.

  5. stewarjt Says:

What would the US elite's, public's and media's reaction be if Putin and/or Brown and/or Hu Jintao supported Barak Obama over John McBane? The arrogance of US politicians to think they can or should control other country's societies is mind boggling.

  6. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

Yes, McMetal, they are. Especially since the Supreme Court intervened (unconstitutionally) in a state's attempt to determine the results of its own election, and then had the audacity to say that their decision should not be considered as precedent.

Apart from that, Speaker pelosi's excuse (back in Nov '06) for taking impeachment off the table was that they couldn't prove anything. Of course, if she had bothered having them investigated, they might have turned up many impeachable offenses within the first week. Well, now that can't be an excuse, if what Suskind contends can be proven. And if it is all true, is there really any reason to let Cheney serve out his term, knowing that he is acting in such an unconstitutional way?

It is unpatrotic to support a president and vice president who routinely violate the very document they took an oath to support and defend. They have done the exact opposite from the beginning of their reign.

  7. Freedom Rebel Says:

She seemed “complicated and unpredictable” to Cheney because Bhutto wasn't someone he could control or manipulate.

Can anyone honestly name a single positive thing that came out of the last 7 years and 7 months? I genuinely cannot.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I think her position was complicated by the fact that the real Democrats in Congress did not and do not have enough of a majority to make anything stick, which would be construed as a waste of tax payer's $ by too many MSM following Americans.

I think justice is still possible however, and that if the Dems win big in November and still refuse to do anything with a real majority, then I will agree that they are complicit in this Regime's crimes.

I plan to keep voting out incumbents every cycle until something changes, or get sick of it and move to an actual Democracy.

  12. Freedom Rebel Says:

Bhutto had a tough leadership style so that her opponents wouldn't exploit a perceived weakness "her being a woman."

Also, Cheney agreed with their military, they didn't want a civilian politician in power. Those legitimate elections can be so bothersome when military rule is so much easier. Cheney showed them by example.

I agree with you. Pelosi needs to be shown the door; she made no effort to stand up for the Constitution. Even if the overwhelming view was that she would fail; at least she could have put every effort into making a difference which she did not. Better to take the right path and lose than to cave in to the opposition because it is the easiest way.

She needs to follow Kucinich's example. I know that is asking far too much from her.

Thomas Jefferson (I think it was TJ) said that our Democracy would end the same way that Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome ended - in a Dictatorship that had gradually and slowly taken away our freedoms, in secret, and without resistance.

None of our Representatives represent us. They are all filthy rich and 99% of them are funded by the top 10%. They do not understand us, much less represent us. And the only thing we seem to have left, at this point, so far into the deconstruction of our Constitution, short of a Revolution, is to vote them out of office. Over and over and over again.

Good Morning :) A couple of the latest primaries have proven that people are paying close attention to who is on the ballot and what they stand for. The good people of Tennessee did a great job on their democratic choice. Of the two running Steve was the only progressive that had a history of standing up for civil rights.

I think this will carry on in November; the grassroots organizations out there have done a fantastic job getting the word out about the candidates that are running. They have kept a close eye on each and every race.

Actually in some twisted view, the "good" that has come out of this Constitutional gang-rape is the knowledge as to EXACTLY where the cracks in the Constitution are. Meaning, these traitors have pried open these cracks to expose the power inherent in the Constitution ans use it in ways not intended in the Constitution or the resultant Evolved Constitution we had circa 2000. This "hidden power" was always recognized by past Presidents and legisltors, and this is partly WHY they call each other The "Honorable" Congressperson. It is because it takes HONOR to NOT take advantage of the cracks in the Constitution. This neo-con cabal, from as far back as the depression have NEVER been honorable, in fact they do not know what honor is.

Conservatives cannot fathom government, that is why they scorn it. Governing IS a liberal notion. It is worrying about the lesser person. Conservatives have NO ability to worry about the lesser person. Conservatives should NEVER be allowed to govern, as they have no ability to even understand what governing is.
Governing IS A LIBERAL MINDSET, AND SHOULD BE ALLOWED ONLY BY LIBERALS.

Are these the MSM following Americans who didn't stand up and protest when Clinton was impeached?

I think it's more political. There really hasn't been enough on Cheney/Bush until the last year. And in the last year we had a looming election. If they impeached Cheney/Bush in the year before the election, the Republicons would scream and yell and call it a partisan witch hunt. The thing that the Democrats in Congress can't get through their thick heads is that the American public has their back. I think most Americans would breathe a sign of relief if Cheney/Bush were impeached.

Back at ya Freedom Rebel and Unbelievable...Good post's...I agree with your post's but disagree with the statement of the past stating our democracy would be taken over in secrecy and with no resistance...This administration has done a lot in secrecy, true but much has been out in the open, in our face's...The with out resistance part has happened due to the media being part of the administration now...Shade's of Orwell's 1984 all around are plane to see by observent citizen's...Trouble mainly as I see it is the fact our people for the most part have become lazy...The one's that are not lazy are so over worked they have little time left for polatick's... I remember well how worn out I was from work and commuting by the time I got home only had time to feed the critter's, myself, shower and hit the sack and get up and do it all over again the next day....Week end's were catch up. laundry, grocery, clean house and get ready for another week..The life of the working class can be a hard road, little time for musing over what's going on in our country much less the world...

Half our country won't do anything because they don't wan't to, one quarter will no matter what and the other one quarter are warn out trying to keep up....I came up with those figure's in my head a long time ago when 63% of the voter's in my Montana town didn't vote....Kind of reinforced when we had a caucuss here a few month's ago..Our little area had 436 voter's of which 6 of us showed up.....Sad huh?...

I agree. Conservatives do not believe in equality. So they do not believe that government should be used to better everyone's life because, in their view, the poor do not deserve help. It never ceases to amaze me just how much conservatives support man being inhumane to his fellow man. And you are right in that because conservatives do not believe in the role of government, they should not be a part of it. (Actually, they do believe in abusing the power of the government to stop anyone trying to stop them from abusing the power of government.)

  29. Badger Says:

For insight into why Pelosi and most Democrats aren't interested in removing Bush from office right now, there's this anecdotal story:

...the most striking aspect of the night happened several hours earlier at the Black Finn restaurant in Addison, a north Dallas, TEXAS suburb.

The TVs on the walls were set to the Olympic games’ opening ceremony in Beijing.

"--the camera panned to capture a scene of George W. Bush sitting with Laura, not far from Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. As soon as the camera centered on the Bush’s, a SPONTANEOUS BOO erupted across the restaurant,...

Politics trumps Principles. Kucinich gave an eloquent, well researched case for Impeachment and it Went NOwhere.

I suppose we could consider our renewed skeptcism a positive, but also, only as an unintentional consequence. On purpose, these folks have done nothing to better our country. Nothing.

Democracy is definitely a liberal form of government that works best when run by liberals. Look at Clinton (moderate though) versus Bush. We were all much better off under Clinton. Let's hope we'll get back to that approach to government on January 20th.

I understand completely. The one thing that gives me hope is, that in this election compared to any other is the information and great blogs on the internet. Witch1 is right that we can't always get enough people jumpstarted out of their complaceny to vote. But we have many young voters that really care about the future of this country.

Definitely the internet has been to our generation what the printing press was to our Founding Fathers. And, I do think more people are using it to get information than ever before - although I think I read that it's still only 50% of the population.

I also think that liberals have stopped being tolerant of intolerance, something that hurt us in the last election. Obama has been much more willing to call McCain out on his lies and nonsense than Kerry, or Gore did.

I'm usually optimistic, but I was so heartbroken in 2004 whn Kerry 'lost' that I just don't want to be that shocked again if McCain manages to steal this election too. And I know that there's a possiblity.

Many candidates had a 7% lead that ended up a 2% lead, but they did win. And if you counted all the Democrats who lost by less than 2%, they probably won in reality.

What we need to worry more about right now is the Republicons disenfranchising voters. Go to bradblog.com and read all about it. It's getting really scary. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

I’m hoping that, on November 3, the Democrats in Congress introduce articles of impeachment for both Cheney and Bush. That may be the only way our government will survive with the Democrats taking office in January. If they aren’t under articles of impeachment, I fear that Cheney/Bush will pull of some kind of a coup and not leave.

Actually, there needs to be articles of impeachement against all of those presently in power. The articles of impeachment PREVENT the usage of the pardon.
This screws them all. Impeach the RATS too while you are at it.
