Rice refuses to ‘interrupt her holidays’ to deal with Georgian conflict.

When she should be traveling abroad to work with allies to deal with the ongoing fallout from Russia’s invasion of Georgia, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has instead been “noticeably absent.” AFP reports she is busy with other plans:

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has also been noticeably absent on the diplomatic scene, having failed to interrupt her holidays to fly to Tbilisi in support of the Georgian government.

Instead senior State Department official, Matthew Bryza, who oversees the Caucasus region was sent, two days later than planned, to join a joint EU-US mediation effort to win a ceasefire.

State Department spokesman Robert Wood said Rice made more than 90 calls this weekend to discuss the situation in Georgia.

Yeah, I guess it is hard work for Girlfriday Rice to cancel her shoe shopping spree and manicure/pedicure appointment. This is nothing new with Rice: putting off urgent issues while concentrating on her Rice’s own personal plans. If she wasn’t concern for the Katrina victims while they were pleading for help while she went shoe shopping in NY, do you really think that she is all that concern for the Georgian conflict?

“Rice made more than 90 calls this weekend to discuss the situation in Georgia.” 90 calls? And she did all the phone calling? Yeah, right. Okay. I’ll believe that when pigs fly.

Any eedjit that listens to Michael “Savage” (”Do you think he’s maybe compensating for something?”) Weiner gets credit for unfathomable stoopidity only. But they’re too stoopid to realise it.

As for Pelosi’s refusal to bend to the Rethuglican “drama queens” demand that we hand out our national resources to the big oil companies, in a manoeuvre that won’t make a damn bit of difference to oil production in the near future (and only exacerbates the root problem), good on her. Pretending that this is an issue that can be “solved” by one vote is a demonstration of utmost cluelessness (or prevarication) … but may be all that Rethuglicans are capableof handling.

If the Rethuglicans are serious about addressing the issue, they can step on board, sign up for renewable energy and do their job helping the country and its future. I’d note that Boehner(R-Moronville) was sufficiently devoted to this faux “protest” to do his part from the golf links….

The size and scope of the Russian operation indicates it was well planned. This was not a spontaneous event. Neither was Israel’s cutting off Georgia from arms sales six months ago.

Russian appears to have slowed its delivery of a key missile defense system to Iran. Additional U.S. aircraft carriers steam, as I write, toward the Persian Gulf.

Condi’s on vacation because the fix is in. There are no surprises, except maybe the depth of the Russian incursion. To many leaders in the Kremlin or our Capital, citizens are disposable.

Cheney’s ready to answer the Russian aggression with a little of his own. It surely won’t be aimed at Russia, but a surrogate, one who Cheney sorely wants regime change. Ahmadinjad for the Georgian President? That sounds like some horse trading.

Russia called Friday upon Georgia to halt its offensive upon South Ossetia and return to talks with the breakaway region.

Georgian authorities “should change their minds and return to civilised means of resolving difficult political questions,” a Russian foreign ministry spokesman, Boris Malakhov, said on the news channel Vesti 24.

“It is still not too late to prevent a massive bloodbath and new victims, including among civilians,” he said.

Russia, which has peacekeepers deployed in South Ossetia and previously warned it won’t remain on the sidelines in the event of a Georgian attempt to resolve the situation by force, intends to “continue its pursuit of efforts to prevent the spilling of blood and for the process of resolving the situation to return to peaceful means,” said Malakhov.

Russia also requested the UN Security Council hold an emergency meeting late Thursday on the escalating fighting in Georgia’s breakaway region of South Ossetia, diplomats at the UN headquarters in New York said.

For years, we have been told Condi Rice was a very intelligent woman. The fact that she was the National Security Advisor on 9/11, during the worst terrorist attack (indeed the _only_ terrorist attack) on American soil? She’s gotten away with the bs “we could not have forseen” excuse, even though exactly that kind of attack had been predicted in TV shows, films, and even a Tom Clancy book.

Then there’s the war in Iraq. Somehow her vaunted expertise sat back and let the Cheney crowd lie their way into a war. We were told that she was ignorant about the Middle East, but when it came to Russia, she was a real expert.

So now, we have the biggest crisis involving Russia during her term. And she cannot be bothered to deal with it?

I think we’re long past the point where she should be impeached for basic incompetence.

It’s as likely a scenario as any. I put NOTHING past, or beneath, Bushco. They just keep setting new, low, standards.

On the other hand, I’m certain there is some internal pressure against striking Iran. Personally, I think they’ll wait till after the election if they can hold their water that long. But I hate to count on them doing what makes sense.

    Israel Linked To Georgia Security

The two largest suppliers to Georgia are the United States and France. Israel may not be Georgia’s main arms supplier, but the scope of defense deals between the two countries stands at $200 million.

However, security ties between Israel and Georgia have received a great deal of media attention, in part because of the capture, on film, of a Russian jet downing an Israeli-made drone in Georgian service, and the role that retired senior Israeli officers have played as advisers to the Georgian security forces.

Notice that Israel is always there when the wars start… but never at the end.

The Left does not like Russia doing the same (without forged documents, I may add) thing. The fact that South Ossetia is, historically, part of Russia and the fact that many of the inhabitants are, essentially, Russian citizens doesn’t mitigate Russia’s brutality. Nor does South Ossetia’s wish to rejoin Russia excuse the brutality of Georgia.

Recognizing those relevant facts hardly constitutes support. But, they do serve to illustrate the utter insanity of comparing Georgia to Iraq or Iran.

Whether you support them or not, the Russians can make an argument that the military action in South Ossetia posed a threat to their security. Iran and Iraq, or Afghanistan for that matter, can not pose a conventional threat to the U.S. It’s not a difficult distinction t make.

It’s not hard. He may be a bigger idiot than Bush.

And if you think his Senate record is distinguished? You haven’t checked his record.

His so-called maverick persona is a front for a fundamentally dishonest political hack. He supports, sponsors and even writes legislation that runs against the party grain, lying to his constituents in the meantime, then flip-flops to vote the party line, virtually, all the time. This pattern goes back to his earliest days in the Senate but became more typical after the Keating Five scandal.

He’s a bald faced liar who’s been driven around the bend by his lust for the Presidency. And any warrior’s sense of honor he may have once possessed is long since dead.

His own man? WTF is that suppose to mean. Trite phrases annoy me. I suppose you have known the man since you were childhood playmates? If not how the hell do you know what sort of man anyone is?

  150. Zooey says:

    pervskidmark sez:
McCain is his own man and will not make the same mistakes that Bush has.

Uh huh, McCain is Bush’s snuggle bunny.

BTW, this country would be energy independent if we had continued energy conservation and alternative energy research Carter started — your boy Reagan did that. Frankly, your argument is stupid.

  151. House of Roberts says:

We could have used another term of Jimmy Carter back when it would have done the most good, when we needed to become energy independent from fossil fuels in the 80s. Instead we’ve been dragged down this war-for-oil road too long.

  152. gummitch says:

    pmavrk2 Says:

Regurgitated talking point from Media Matters. McCain is his own man and will not make the same mistakes that Bush has.

McCain has repeatedly said that he agrees with all of Bush’s policies, bozo. Tax cuts, Iraq, the works. You’re either delusional or lying.

The same talking point could be said about Obama being the second term of Jimmy Carter.

It could be said, yes, if there was any logical connection. Try to pay attention: Jimmy Carter has been out of office for a very long time. You need to catch up.

  153. House of Roberts says:

Stepped on toes? I got heel marks all up and down my back! This is fun!

On the right side, we have a war veteran that spend 5+ years as a POW. Not to mention his 20 + years in the senate. A man who has proven the hard way that he loves his country. http://www.friendsofmccain.com/about/

What in god’s name does spending time as a POW have to do with qualifications to lead the country? Is that part of the job requirements suddenly?

Fine, he loves his country. Many of us do. That’s hardly a qualification, either. What about all those other guys in the camp with McCain? Maybe we should find the guy who was there the longest and elect him President, if that’s such an important criterion.

  156. House of Roberts says:

    Obama the thin skin victim?

    With McSame’s temper tantrums? LMAO!

    #153 pmavrk2:

Nice cut’n'paste of some obsequious crapola they put out after the sh*te hit the fan, and they were getting hammered for their hatred and stupidity.

A reasonable person would have apologised. Not Michael Weiner. He’s a hate-spewing person (this is hardly the first time), and he got caught with his pants down. “99% of those diagnosed with autism”. Not “most kids that throw temper tantrums” (as he tries to pretend in his purported defence) … that’s every kid. And no one has ever claimed that most (or all) kids are autistic. Weiner said “autistic” Even his “explanation” is full’o'crapola, and he’s an eedjit … or worse.

    Cheers,

Yay TP! That troll was really getting old. Bring on the next sock puppet.

  159. House of Roberts says:

I’m going to have to keep a wordpad doc open and copy all the troll posts in order to keep up with who said what and when.

  160. Zooey says:

It looks like gummitch brought the Pervskidmark B Gone. :)

  161. Zooey says:

Oy, don’t bother, House of Roberts.

They’ll repeat their idiocy often enough…

Why on Earth would you subject yourself to such torture? As soon as I figured out we were dealing with several, multiple, personalities I gave up keeping them separate. I find it easier to just accept that trolls is trolls. No more worthy of an identity than a chicken in a feedlot.

  164. pete says:

I don’t think trolls have a curfew. They strike whenever Mommy leaves the computer unattended. But, it’s past my curfew.

    G’night good people.
    You too trolls.

  165. House of Roberts says:

Well, if the posts all suddenly disappear, I might want to remember something that might have seemed insignificant at the time.

  166. Zooey says:

    Goodnight, pete.

I’m about to turn into a pumpkin as well.

    Goodnight, all. :)

  167. Zooey says:

Bush,Cheney,Rice got their cue from Putin last week.
Russia wants control of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which transports oil from the Caspian Sea to Turkey. The saber rattling is all a hoax designed to placate most Americans.

  176. House of Roberts says:

Why would the Russians want a pipeline that is in jeopardy on the Turkish end? To shut it down and redirect the oil elsewhere?

  177. Keith says:

I think Russia should say that Georgia is a threat to its neighbors and Russia; that they have killed their own people; that one of their middle schools has a chemistry lab that could be used for WMD; that Georgia has ties to a known terrorist state (USA); and that Russia cannot wait until the smoking gun in the form of a mushroom cloud (snark).

  178. Game of Life says:

There you go again repug. Not making sense again.

What does rice not acting urgently to a serious crisis have to do with the repug comedy skit?
Beside if the skit was serious your chimpy would have called all them back. And beside, beside rice has been on a long enough vacation. Where is the old gal?

I forget, who is the repug who talk the talk but could walk the walk? (as usual)

  179. DRxJ says:

Well obviously, with Rice refusing to interrupt her “holiday”, and Bush waving the US flag in Bejing, this conflict is not that big of deal.

Oh, the administration will talk tough, but in the end, it’s just a bunch of dead foreigners.
    (major snark)

  180. jkd7854 says:

Just another example of gross incompetency in the Bush Cabinet. Call it what you will, cronyism, favoritism, appointing not necessarily the one with the best qualifications for the job, instead the one who has proved to support the President completely. Look at the Judicial System. It’s loaded with incompetent idealogues. Sigh……:-(

  181. jkd7854 says:

Stay home, Condo, we don’t need you.

  182. ScrewBush says:

The people of Georgia should be proud. Our Secretary of State, Rice, is treating them as if they were all Americans: she hears your pain and does not care. How big of her.

Folks, don’t blame Rice, don’t blame Bush for this disaster or the gutting of the Endangered Species act, or for any other wars that will start between now and January. As a hard core Democrat I assure you we all only have Nancy Pelosi to blame.

Nancy admits to the press that Bush is in her words “incompetent”. Yet, she willingly allows Mr. Incompetent and his cast of nit-wits to make the decisions that affect all of our lives. Nancy, there are plenty of crimes to charge these guys with, just reach your hand in a hat and pick one. When you knowingly let a 4 year old drive the family around, don’t cry when he drives you all off the cliff.

You know, I know, and Nancy knows, there’s more to come folks, there’s more to come, and she’s okay with that.

“Cancervative” That’s a nice little freudian slip to fling around the real world. Passive aggressive, yes…yet apropos.

  184. The Skeptical Cynic says:

It’s a toss up whether Condoleezza Rice or Madeleine Albright is the more barbaric Secretary of State in U.S. history. With respect to not getting involved in the Russia/Georgia chaos, whether by design or mere benign stupidity it probably the only intelligent thing she has ever done during her stint as SoS. Can you imagine the outrage if Russia got directly involved militarily and financially in a dispute between the U.S and Mexico; or the U.S. and Canada; or the U.S. and Cuba. Ooops, that happened and WE, the U.S. nearly started WW III. I would suggest that the blustering buffoonery of the Insane Cheney, the Barking Baboonish Boltons of the world, the Bush the Brain Lite follow the lead of Rice and STFU. Russia is in a much better to “kick ass” position than the U.S. and just might not take too kindly to “advice” from the most murderous meddling now-too-far-extended bully in the world!

Medvedev just might call the Administration’s bluff and we will find out that “behind the curtain” is the Wizard of Scuzz!

  185. The Skeptical Cynic says:

Remember when Bush said he looked into Putin’s eyes and saw his soul?

Putin at the same time, looked into Bush’s eyes and saw “assoul”!

This is another example that the “old world jounalism of Murrow, Cronkite and Rather is dead and buried. In the case of the Time Magazine reporter Ms Tumulty, she seems to think the finding out the who, what, where, when and how have been replaced with a steno pad, which she records what ABC said in rebuttle to the complaint of Congressman Kucinich. There is a great disconnect with what happened and the points made by ABC. She asks little of no questions to ABC. She takes what is handed to her and repeats it vebatim and then calls that reporting. I call is stenography. Lida Sohbet sohbet sesli chat Gelinlik Modelleri

Sesli Sohbet If Cheney was truly involved in 9/11 and protected in some way, then he’s being protected by what may be going on in the Caspian Sea area as well. That pre-9/11 August 10, 2000 article drives the point home to me that Cheney had a vested interest in the oil at the Caspian Sea area (before 9/11). Fx15 From all I’ve read in Schwarz’ articles, he claims the Taliban was working on a deal with Argentina with that pipeline in the Caspian Sea area and UNOCOL wanted the deal instead. Orjinal Lida It’s too much to get into here and I’m not able to convey in here what Schwarz has presented in his articles.
