As frequent readers of this blog are aware, we have greatly expanded our operation in the past year. We launched a new redesign of our site, introduced a much-improved comments section, added our policy blog The Wonk Room, hired more staff, and just recently, welcomed Matthew Yglesias to the family.
In order to enhance the quality of this site, we’ve had to take on more and more expenses. And unfortunately, the voluntary contributions (that we’re always happy to receive) have not been sufficient enough to maintain what we’re trying to do.
So, we are introducing one paid advertising spot to ThinkProgress, on the right-hand sidebar. Please rest assured that our advertisers will have absolutely no bearing on determining or influencing what we do or don’t write about. Please consider supporting ThinkProgress by clicking on the ads once in a while.
Thanks for reading ThinkProgress!

– - Whatever you do, do NOT do like Countdown on MSNBC and run ads for Fox News and O’Reilly’s show.

Please be assured that advertisers will have influence. It can be no other way. If they disapprove of TP content, they will pull their advertising.
It isn’t personal, it’s capitalist business.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:04 amTP has Ads! Don’t they have a vaccine or spray for those nasty things?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:10 amPlease try not to end up like Huffingtonpost with so much blinking, flashing crap that it slows down page refreshes to a crawl.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:11 amThank you for what you do.

We should be so lucky!!
August 13th, 2008 at 10:28 amHow about some ads for Cheetos?
August 13th, 2008 at 10:29 amCheetos should pay TP for all the mentions it gets. Maybe Hanes, too.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:36 amNo money, no honey.
Advertising: it’s how those who “broadcast” get paid.
Good on ya TP!
August 13th, 2008 at 11:15 amDailyKos ran Chevron “Human Energy” ads while the Burmese junta cracked the heads of Buddhist monks. Their defense was pitiful. Let’s hope TP does better in the ad arena.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:54 amConsidering how many ad companies seem willing to support other liberal sites, I really don’t see this being much of an issue. For every ad that leaves another will take its place.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:55 amAnd who sponsored the Boston Tea Party? Today, it would have strong corporate support:
Coca Cola–”Tastes better than tea”
Phillip Morris–”Nicotine beats caffeine”
Boston Market–”Don’t throw our food in the harbor”
Gold’s Gym–”Get in shape for the big event”
The Carlyle Group–”We hate paying taxes” & “thanks for carrying our interest”
August 13th, 2008 at 12:01 pmCorporate ads on so-called “progressive” web sites and web blogs are offensive. The worst ones have the awful jumpy java-fueled ads that are highly irritating. I won’t name names, but I am sure that many have noticed them. Sports broadcasts on TV and radio are the worst: now I just turn off a baseball game radio broadcast if they have ads in between pitches…
Slightly O/T: in the Sacramento Bee today, there was an article that said that Longs Drugs had sold itself to “CVS” some eastern drugstore chain that I had never heard of before. The Longs name is set to disappear in December, 2009. Dear CVS, if the name Longs is dropped, I will take my business elsewhere.
August 13th, 2008 at 2:35 pmi understand it’s early in the game, but i HAVE noticed that you are keeping the TP “look” and i appreciate that… it looks great!
product and logo placement is possible without being obnoxious…
i also appreciate knowing what businesses are helping to further the message and the TRUTH and so try to give back to those who help.
keep up the great work!
