The Wonk Room’s Brad Johnson notes that in an interview today, CNN’s Ali Velshi, who regularly trumpets dirty energy talking points, revealed that he recently traveled to northern Alaska with Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN), one of Congress’s most vocal Big Oil promoters:
VELSHI: I want to talk to you first about this because those pictures we just showed, we took from an airplane. You were with us on that airplane. You went up there to get a sense for yourself about the impact of drilling in ANWR.
“I came away with the idea that this is the most perfect place on the planet to drill,” Bachmann said of the trip. Watch it:
Recently, Bachmann has claimed that Alaskan caribou are attracted to the “warmth” of oil pipelines, falsely blamed Democrats for blocking renewable energy incentives, and repeated the lie about China drilling off Florida.
CNN is Faux light…
August 13th, 2008 at 9:02 pmI’ve come away after watching you on that video believing you’re insane , Ms Bachmann ………
August 13th, 2008 at 9:06 pmRep. Bachmann, why would we need to drill for oil in Alaska if Jesus is going to take care of us and the planet?
August 13th, 2008 at 9:09 pmIt’s so beautiful the right wingers want to destroy it.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:11 pmRecently, Bachmann has claimed that Alaskan caribou are attracted to the “warmth” of oil pipelines, falsely blamed Democrats for blocking renewable energy incentives, and repeated the lie about China drilling off Florida.
What do you expect from a religious fanatic, the very definition of which is someone who believes whatever they want to believe, regardless of the evidence. The scary part is that she was elected by a majority of the voters.

August 13th, 2008 at 9:13 pmWho the hell voted this pathetic sorority sister, bush cheerleading dumbass into an elected office?
August 13th, 2008 at 9:15 pmDid she pass out cupcakes or something?
This is what Tracey Flick from “Election” would look like in middle age.
Rep. Michele Bachmann
The most glaring example of questioning if women truly are smarter than men………..
August 13th, 2008 at 9:16 pm“I came away with the idea that this is the most perfect place on the planet to drill,” Bachmann said of the trip.
“Before that trip, I was a staunch conservationist and opponent of drilling in ANWR, but that trip ripped the scales from my eyes. I realized that Jesus wants us to drill in ANWR. It’s in the Bible.”
August 13th, 2008 at 9:19 pmLOL McMetal. I saw a bumper sticker here in Maine recently that read:
“Feminism is the radical idea women are human too”
Michele Bachmann would have a hard time with this quote. She was born a neck drooling robot.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:20 pmRight-wing Republicans are just vicious petty hateful creeps who want to destroy what remains of our natural environment, because, gasp, some concerned, conscious persons want to protect these lands from development.
O/T: After watching Keith Olbermann’s show on MSNBC tonight, I got the distinct impression that Old McWar has some responsibility for encouraging the imperial bully President of the Republic of Georgia to attack South Ossetia and slaughter its citizens. McWar is not even President, but he’s already helping to start wars… Heck of a war-mongering, McWar…
August 13th, 2008 at 9:21 pmUm, actually, that’d be southern Iraq, Bachmann. You stick a straw into the sand and you hit light sweet crude. ANWR has very unproven reserves, is in one of the least hospitable environments on the planet, and will be extremely difficult to transport once it’s extracted since TAPS capacity is almost maxed out. And it would be extremely destructive to wildlife.
Republicans are just stupid.

And I always found Minnesotans to be truly nice people ; how in the hell could they vote this bubblehead into office ?
August 13th, 2008 at 9:28 pmI have an idea. Drill Michele Bachmann first. There is so much oily goodness there that our country can power its SUVs for years.
Minnesota has a very late primary–September 9. But it looks like her Democratic opponent will be El Tinklenberg, a former Methodist minister who has been in politics for a long time and is a transportation expert. Please, God, send Bachman home to take care of her children, if she has any, and get some much needed mental health care.
But of course, Jesus has already saved the planet and actual people don’t have to do damn thing. So drill away. Will Jesus make more?
August 13th, 2008 at 9:29 pmMichele seems to have a fetish for two-thousand year old guys.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:42 pmIt is so-o-o beautiful – let’s kill it! oops, I mean drill it.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:46 pmOBAMAGR8,
Come out come out, wherever you are!
We got your thread, need to defend your cuddle-bunny, Shelly B and your state!
Don’t miss this opportunity.
we are waiting.
August 13th, 2008 at 9:49 pmBachman’s brain is still in a vacuum after that lip-locked smack she engaged in with GW after his 2006(?) SOTUA.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:02 pmyes michelle total darkness 3 months a year , under ice and snow 9 months a year ,and in a permanent freeze , just perfect …….. O.K.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:11 pmBy chance does this woman benefit from supporting the things oil companies want to do?
Just askin’
August 13th, 2008 at 10:21 pmI’m sorry, but this begs to be said; she is quite possibly the stupidest person on the face of the Earth! On second thought, I’m not sorry.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:26 pmMy God, she’s stupid.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:37 pmWhat is wrong with the voters in her district? This woman is certifiably insane. She has been wrong about just about everything and she never bothers to let the facts get in the way. She reminds me a lot of that other hideous crone, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee.
Both of these dopes have taken piles of money from the energy industry. If this is the best that the 6th district of Minnesota has to offer this country is in more trouble than I thought.
Kay in Maine: I don’t post that often but it is so good to see your name–I’ve wondered where you’ve been. Hope you’re having a good summer up there.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:37 pmSpeaking as a Minnesotan, I have several friends who are Republicans and only a few of them are as dumb as Bachmann. The others are dumber.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:38 pmIt seems as though each post, throughout the day, has made me say, “that’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard”!
It’s very fitting that Crazy Shelly should top it off.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:41 pm. . . Bachmann’s legacy includes her infamous Bush smooch at the SOTU and her House introduction of the “Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act.” The pride of Minnesota. Her and Jesse Ventura.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:44 pmI’m a proud Minnowsnowtan myself, AtC. And Jesse was a polished, thoughtful, statesman compared to Crazy Shelly.
Here’s a fun(?) site if you haven’t seen it.
http://dumpbachmann.blogspot.com/
August 13th, 2008 at 10:47 pmpete: The only thing Jesse Ventura proved was that 34% of Minnesotans were wrestling fans. Compared with Bachmann, a nut-filled turd is more polished and thoughtful.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:54 pmOooh the thrill of the drill and we promise no spill
August 13th, 2008 at 11:07 pmMy name is Michele and it’s time for my pill
I beg to differ. If there were still that many wrestling fans in Mn? Verne Gagne, or Nick Bockwinkle would still be Champ.
But,seriously, I think many of the people who voted for him never believed his candidacy was legit. Others thought it was a way to make a protest. So I’m guessing it’s more like 25% wrestling fans.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:07 pmDoes anyone really listen to this crazy woman?

And why doesn’t the GOP shut her up?
August 13th, 2008 at 11:18 pmANWR, the most perfect place to spill. Recall BP’s pipeline. The man who cut maintenance on the pipeline, also slashed maintenance costs at BP’s Texas City plant, where 15 died and 180 were injured. The CEO landed a cushy job with none other than The Carlyle Group. James Baker saved Lord John Browne’s behind, in more ways than one…
August 13th, 2008 at 11:23 pmpete,
I’m sure those Republicans interested in adult women think they might get a presidunce-style groping from this crazy woman — if they just let her go on and on….
Just like they do with Ann Coulter…

August 13th, 2008 at 11:48 pmNot only is Bachmann crazy but the people that voted her into office should have their sanity checked.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:54 pmWhere is this nut cases district? She needs to be booted out. I can’t believe anyone in Minnesota would elect this airhead. Support whoever is facing her in the next election.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:59 pmAnd we should believe anything this moron says, why?
August 14th, 2008 at 12:01 amWatched the video with the sound off. She has the same pole-axed in the head expression that Nancy Bush has. Are they on the same meds?
August 14th, 2008 at 12:02 amGawd…. Does anyone have a spare frog? This woman needs a brain transplant/upgrade….
Cheers,
August 14th, 2008 at 12:11 amAnd I can’t believe that any elected official could make Inhofe and Chenoweth seem like Einsteins….
August 14th, 2008 at 12:12 amSo let me get this straight. when she was a state senator Michele Bachmann hid in the bushes to hid from those evil gays and after that Minnesota made her a congresswoman? Yes I know where I live I have no room to talk but…come on.
August 14th, 2008 at 12:24 amLunatic fringe Bachmann back again? Didn’t you have a posting of this loon yesterday? The more this lawmaker talks, the more this woman is just plain nauseating. TP should have a section called “Blowhard News” on the website that features her and others. I’m not going to comment on Buchmann’s retarded comment. She’s not playing with a full deck. If you post something that Bachmann finally finds her brain from out of the closet, maybe I will reconsider.
August 14th, 2008 at 12:26 amI’m also a Minnesotan and all you need to know about Michelle Bachmann is that she stood up in front of the whole congregation to announced that God had told her to run for congress. Sadly my sister is a big supporter of hers, so things get ugly when we talk politics. Bachmann used her fight against the profile on learning education program to creat her christian base. In my opinion she is using good christians just to get their vote. Hopefully many will wake up this fall!
August 14th, 2008 at 12:53 am.
OMG…
Daryll failed to show and protect her stance that God will save us from our screw-ups of tending the earth.
A-MAZING!
.
August 14th, 2008 at 1:09 amHow did this woman slip under Rush and Billo’s sexual predatory radars?
Every time this “thing” opens it’s mouth, I fear for the persons in her immediate radius…as they are being exposed to cancer, every manifestation of retardation, toxic waste, nuclear radiation and foul smells which would close any public dump if you caught a whiff of any of it downwind.
August 14th, 2008 at 1:11 amIf this is that great of an area that is just made by God’s own hands for the purpose of drilling.
It must be as good a place for all America to have their trash shipped to as a national dump.
I’m sure McCain would think that filling up the Grand Canyon with Nuke waste and all our refuge would be a great answer and would last a while ans would make the rest of America beutiful.
August 14th, 2008 at 4:02 amHowever did she get elected?
August 14th, 2008 at 4:52 amI was reading recently about the oil fields under the north pole and arctic…quite a lot of oil. Six nations lay claim to these waters. Expect some nuclear war as peak oil hits and these nations, including us, will do anything to get their hands on the last few barrels. This idiot nation keeps electing oil barron puppets. And the American people merrily drive their Hummers and SUVs pretending this oil party can go on forever. Poor Jimmy Carter tried to warn us and Howdy Doody Ronnie Raygun made us all feel so warm and fuzzy so we could keep on ignoring reality. Plan to learn to use a gun and grown vegetables…and build a very high fence around your land where the food is. It’s going to be very ugly. Chevron is holding a workable electric car battery technology hostage right now. Unless the GOP is thrown out of office, things like this will go on and on and we will bury ourselves.
August 14th, 2008 at 4:56 amOne would think with the health care insurance our elected officials receive, this whackjob would get the medical attention she desperately needs.
August 14th, 2008 at 6:45 amOne need look no further than Ronald Reagan. His administration slowed the efforts undertaken by Jimmy Carter to promote conservation and alternate energy development through incentives.
August 14th, 2008 at 6:52 amI have a new invention. It’s the Michele Bachmann light bulb. It actually sucks light waves out of the room, making it darker.
August 14th, 2008 at 7:06 amOh dear god, it never ends with this women. Please, please please my fellow Minnesotans, if you have an ounce of compassion in your hearts for my sanity, defeat this women with Mr. Tinklenberg. And just get her off CNN.
Support her opponent. Please.
http://www.tinklenberg08.com/
Bachmann has raised more money than him and people like her for some unknown reason. She reminds me of Katherine Harris, only dumber. Have mercy on us.
August 14th, 2008 at 7:07 amOff topic but completely hysterical!
Rosemary Watson has made a new YouTube video where she impersonates Cindy McCain taking on Paris Hilton:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1647xFnje0
Too funny! I found Rosemary Watson’s videos a month or two ago and have been addicted ever since. We need her during this election year for sure!

August 14th, 2008 at 8:42 amWhatever happened to Jim Wilke? We need someone to tell us that there has never been an oil spill in Alaska.
August 14th, 2008 at 8:48 amI have viewed this video and have come up with a diagnosis, a la Frist:
August 14th, 2008 at 8:49 amBachmann is clearly devoid of cognitive brain function and appears braindead, so it should be ok to unhook life support.
Bachman?
August 14th, 2008 at 8:59 amI’d do her.
I’d turn her around, comein from the south, and put a sock in her feculent gob…
But I’d do her…
Ish token librul, Ish.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:13 amIs it just me, or does Bachmann always look like she’s just swallowed a dozen Prozac for breakfast? That glassy-eyed stare, that fixed smile, the goofy pronouncements…
August 14th, 2008 at 9:13 am“I would not be just nuffin’
August 14th, 2008 at 9:27 amMy head all full of stuffin’
My heart all full of pain
I would dance and be merry
Life would be a ding-a-derry
If I only had a brain…”
One of the larger population centers of Bachmann’s district is the St. Cloud area. I lived there for three years a couple of decades ago. One of the things that struck me about the area was that it was the most unashamedly racist place I’ve ever lived. I grew up in a small town in northern MN with very few ethnic minorities and encountered a lot of bizarre ideas about race. That was nothing compared to what I saw in St. Cloud.
As a result of my experience there, I’m afraid I wasn’t surprised to see the area willing to elect a nutjob like Bachmann.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:35 amnext thing we’ll hear is this lady saying Gawd and GeeSus want america to drill there and destroy the habitat because, well, Gawd told Adam the earth and the animals were here for him to do as he sees fit and if Adam’s descendants think destroying the earth to get oil (and bring about The Rapture) well, all the better…
August 14th, 2008 at 9:53 amgoddammit! where’s my wood chipper?
August 14th, 2008 at 11:19 amin ya go, michele!
As if the Jesus remarks weren’t insane enough, now she’s telling us where to drill? Okay. Audio from the interview is up.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:24 amshoeless Says:

Shoeless,
August 14th, 2008 at 11:41 amI think he either got eaten by a hungry polar bear or morphed into Obamagr8. They sure sound like the same Alaska troll.
Do they put oil in the koolaid? Because, I wonder how these Congress-people keep swallowing this stuff.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:46 amBillJ-MN pretty much hit the nail on the head concerning the St. Cloud area in post 69. I live in St. Cloud and it’s still pretty much the way BillJ described it.
The conservatives in this area revel in their ignorance and stupidity.
The good news is El Tinklenberg is polling well among independent voters (somewhere in the vicinity of 70%, IIRC).
August 14th, 2008 at 11:48 amupside99,
We’ll have to ask obbie if he thinks the black stuff that came spilling out of the Exxon Valdez was either dirt or sea foam. If he picks one or both of those choices, he’s definately Jim Wilke.
August 14th, 2008 at 1:13 pmIt’s always fun to have a Bachmann thread show up!
What I don’t get is, that if Jebus saved the planet 2000 years ago, why didn’t he foresee the oil problem and just whip up some more oil for all of us. Like he did with the wine and the bread and fish? Has he forgotten us?
Anyway, Michele is a Hoot.
August 14th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
