Chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party shot and in critical condition.
The AP reports that Bill Gwatney, chairman of the Arkansas Democratic Party, is currently hospitalized and in critical condition after three shots were fired at party headquarters. According to Gwatney’s secretary, the suspect — who has been “shot and apprehended” — came “into the party’s office and asked to speak with Gwatney. When the secretary said she wouldn’t allow him to meet with Gwatney, the man went into his office and shot him.” Watch a CNN report:

I will withhold comment on the incident itself because at this point, we have almost no information except that a guy came into the office and shot Mr. Gwatney. We don't know if it was politically motivated, if it was a personal vendetta against Mr. Gwatney for whatever reason, if it was just a crackpot looking for any kind of victim and he got Mr. Gwatney's name from somewhere, or if it was for some other reason.
And to the trolls -- yes, it would be awful if it happened at a Republican headquarters, too. Or anywhere, for that matter.

Actually, it was right at about 50 years ago that the Republicans became the haven for "Dixiecrats" who were upset with the Democratic party beginning to support civil rights legislation. Strom Thrumond was elected as a Democrat based on a write-in election in 1954. He's also the Senator known most for his refusal to apologize for his racist past, and for jumping to the Republicans when the support for civil rights by the Democrats got "under his craw".
(Whatever a "craw" is. . . . ;-)

And here everyone thought that US car manufacturers refusing to build better cars was causing much of the problem. And Big OIL exploiting Americans was the problem. And republicans being PAWNS of big OIL was the problem.
Domestic oil drilling would take years, and would have virtually no impact on our supplies - MORON.

Rumors immediately arose that the shooter might have been a disgruntled former employee of a Gwatney dealership. There were layoffs at a Gwatney dealership this week, according to employees. But police were firm Wednesday afternoon in saying there was no connection between the man and a dealership.
