Today on Fox News, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol revealed that former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell may endorse Obama and speak at the Democratic convention on Wednesday, Aug. 27:
I’m hearing from people who talked directly to the Obama campaign, that Colin Powell will endorse Sen. Obama, and he may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama.
Watch it:
Caution: Note that the Kristol Ball has a mixed record. Powell spokeswoman Peggy Cifrino has strongly denied Kristol’s report, saying there is “absolutely no truth to it whatsoever.”
when was the last time Kristol was right about anything?
August 13th, 2008 at 5:30 pmYous speakish engrish souch goodish.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:31 pmWhy would anyone on the Obama campaign even speak to Kristol, much less tell him some ultra-secret news? He probably got in touch with the Xerox repairman, who was jerking the jerk's chain. "Oh, yeah, and the Beatles are doing a reunion concert just for Obama!"
Kristol is currently googling "beetles."
August 13th, 2008 at 5:33 pmIf Powell does endorse Obama, will this look good to the Faux news audience?
August 13th, 2008 at 5:36 pmI have heard mixed views concerning Obama accepting such an endorsement.
Talk about out Liberman-ing Lieberman's heading over to the Republican convention to give his little talk on how Teh Progressivz have taken over the party.
Powell at the Democratic convention.... Interesting if true.
We now return you to your "It'll never happen!" comments, already in progress.... ;-)
August 13th, 2008 at 5:37 pmThe fact that Kristol is predicting it means it is less likely to happen, but would that be a good thing or a bad thing? I think it'd be a wash since Powell has very little credibility these days.
No, Bill definately made it very unlikely. I wonder if his ass is sore from always pulling things out of it.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:44 pmPossibly a cheap attempt to draw racial lines?
August 13th, 2008 at 5:44 pmI sure hope this is true (although since it's coming from Kristol I know that it's a long shot) because maybe that would mean that he was trying to redeem himself after allowing himself to be used in the campaign of lies and deception against the American people regarding the need to attack/wreck/occupy/steal from Iraq.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:45 pmOh for god's sake why on EARTH are we quoting ANYTHING Kristol says as even being remotely true. VERY disappointed you would do that.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:46 pmWarmongering William has never been right about anything. He talks out of the part of the body most people sit on.

Ah, you may be right. Because we know that most republicans cannot see past race and gender.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:47 pmFlagged, profanity and terrible attempt at the English language.

August 13th, 2008 at 5:49 pmNope. But Bill Kristol will still be some kind of expert on politics.

That was actually my first reaction but it's not clear to me what good it would do. Powell just isn't one of those scary dark people (unlike yourself, eeeeek!) like, oh, Jesse Jackson.
I think another real possibility is that Kristol is putting in his bid to take over Novak's role as gossip monger to the Beltway. Novak's track record wasn't particularly good, either, but it didn't stop him from chatting about his inside knowledge and it didn't stop masses of idiots from taking him seriously.
The Kristol Balls have pretty well sucked so far, but the Smart People don't let little things like that get in the way.

Bullshit. Will ever happen.

August 13th, 2008 at 5:54 pmIs his busted crystal ball predicting that Satan is going to speak at the Repukian Convention?
He'd be right, Dick "Satan" Cheney is gonna be there.
Cretinusa1 = another idiot
August 13th, 2008 at 5:55 pmI believe, pronunciations by Billy are called "Kristol Myth".
August 13th, 2008 at 5:55 pmLet he without tolerance wave the first flag.
August 13th, 2008 at 5:57 pmFlagged for flagging.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:00 pmcreusa1 Says:
Someone in the Obama campaign is clearly lying to Kristol to set him up. Shame on him for not recognizing this.
No one in the Obama campaign talked to Kristol, as if they would ever talk to that hack. He said he heard from someone who he said talked to them, and he did not mention who said it.
Read the article and watch the video, idiot.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:01 pmUnfortunately, I think Billy Kristol's record is in tact - he's always wrong.
Powell's spokeswoman said "Not true."
Z. Brzezinski also said he "expected" a Powell endorsement, but I think his source may be Kristol.
It was a nice couple of hours, while I thought it may be true. It fit in with one day of the campaign havig a "military theme" - Powell, Clark, Cleland, et al., but the late day denial only completes my already miserable day.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:02 pmAs others have noted, Kristol saying this will happen immediately increases the odds that it will not.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:03 pmYeah, deebaser, I think we're running in circles trying to clean up this place.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:04 pmdeebaser,
August 13th, 2008 at 6:08 pmDon't you now have to flag yourself?
So if this were to happen, wouldn't we see the GOP convention flooded with t-shirts of a banana changing hands? Or what happens when two Uncle Tom's get together? Or what happens when Curious George's dad shows up? Because I see these things on the GOP floor now, then 72 hours after the fact that the vendors won't be allowed back for 3 and 8/9 years because they are "bad, naughty racists who made tons of money for us...whom we must now shame because we're caught".
August 13th, 2008 at 6:09 pmHeh. Caveat emptor.

August 13th, 2008 at 6:43 pmAfter Powell's sell-out in the UN speech, he is damaged goods, for either party. But at least he has shown some remorse for his actions, but like with Scotty, too little, too late.

August 13th, 2008 at 6:47 pmYou're on fire, RHF. Great work.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:02 pmKristol's been pretty much been wrong on everything anyways. Why should we even believe anything he says. How this clown even has a job with a major news organization is still a mystery.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:12 pmOnly a lowlife troll would find this conclusion "clear".
Let's review:
the article reports that Kristol says "I’m hearing from people who talked directly to the Obama campaign, that Colin Powell will endorse Sen. Obama"
Gen. Powell's spokesman denies the report.
Thus we have the following possibilities:
1) someone at the Obama campaign lied to Kristol's source.
2) Kristol's source lied to Kristol
3) Kristol lied about the source
4) Powell's spokesman lied, and the general will endorse Obama.
Seeing as this is William the Bloody we're talking about, I wouldn't count on the last one. But it is still a possibility.
So, to sum up, we have four potential liars, but for some reason, the new troll name (who has wisely prepared a modular handle in anticipation of future bannings) thinks it is "clear" which one of the four is lying.
That's some trollvoyance.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:21 pmAt least Powell said one thing that was right on the money:
And he reflects the opinion of the majority of the intelligent people in this country.
August 13th, 2008 at 7:45 pmThe supposed man of the military who never served, got served by a former Joint Chiefs Chairman.

You're making modications to your site in all of these unforseen areas, with the heavily mentioned concerns going unaddressed:
(1) Fixing the 'Top Rating' feature to actually sort the posts, and
(2) Your comment is awaiting moderation is waaay to restrictive. It makes many frustrated to feel that their insightful postings are going unnoticed, and to be stuck randomly plucking words from their posts just to make it though a puzzling filter. This is the third time I've dealt with this today.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:01 pmYeah, Powell, Rice and Scooter Libby will show up together to endorse BO.
August 13th, 2008 at 8:51 pmI suppose anything is possible but I automatically assume anything Kristol says is wrong. I wish I could be wrong as often as he is and still keep my job! Really, this guy is so full of it, I cannot believe he continues to be employed by the NYT. Of course, that says more about the paper than it does about him.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:14 pmToday on Fox News, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol revealed that former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell may endorse Obama and speak at the Democratic convention on Wednesday, Aug. 27
Who cares? Powell has destroyed whatever reputation he once had when he drank the Kool-Aid for Bush.
http://progressiveworldreview.com
August 13th, 2008 at 11:18 pmI think in general Powell is a good guy; he lost his reputation with his U.N. speech, and he knows it, and I suspect he's smart enough to realize that to the Bushiecons and even right-leaners, if he were to endorse Obama that would simply be dismissed as treason (cf, McClellan) and that comparatively few Democrats would be all that impressed with an endorsement from the man who made the case for war. And the only reason I could imagine that the Obama campaign would have even the slightest endorsement from Powell would be (a) the guy was a general and (b) he was in the Bush admin, showing Obama's cross-over potential.
But since this whole notion, per Kristol, of Sunnis and Shias in Iraq not getting along is just doofus pop psychology from a buncha longhairs who aren't Serious People, I think I'll take this further insight with several trillion grains of salt.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:34 pmWho would read or listen to bill kristol? He lacks any credibility and shouldn't be believed.
August 14th, 2008 at 4:47 amBill Kristol is the biggest ass. Of all pundits, he's got the wildest imagination. He's NEVER RIGHT ABOUT ANYTHING!
I would love it if Powell endorsed Obama, but I take anything Kristol says with the smallest grains of salt.
August 14th, 2008 at 8:02 amNotice how billie crystl has gotten his information through the Obama campaign and not from Mr Powell himself. That's a round about and unreliable way to make a point about someone we presume is a Republican like billie. Is this what you call crystal spin and just a lie? A lie for all to hear coming through the mic of his MSM.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:03 amA foggy crystal ball that never produced anything right.
August 14th, 2008 at 9:29 amBill never was right about anything anyway,
anytime..
roughly translates as
"Yesterday me and a couple of the guys were havin' a beer and we thought, wouldn't it be a screech if we made a spoof call to Obama HQ pretending to be Powell saying he'd like to speak at the Convention. So we did. I don't know whether they believed us or not, but since Bubba was so drunk he was belching down the phone we don't think so."
Sigh. Kristol is about as believable as Attila the Hun saying he's taking up crochet.
August 14th, 2008 at 12:49 pmAs Jon Stewart once said..."Oh William...Are you ever right about anything?!"
