GOP lawmaker is a big fan of ‘The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder.’

07bugliosib190.jpg The Washington Post reports that a “southern conservative congressman” is a big fan of Vincent Bugliosi’s best-selling book “The Prosecution of George W. Bush for Murder,” which makes the case that Bush should be held “criminally responsible” for the deaths of U.S. soldiers in Iraq. A “source close to the author” told the Post that the lawmaker is Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC), who famously coined the term “freedom fries,” but later became a critic of the Bush administration’s handling of the Iraq war. Jones told Bugliosi that he wants to lay low until the election, but afterward, would be “standing there by your side.”

We can set up camps at Kennebunkport, Crawford, Cheney's undisclosed location - for starters.

  8. Buckie Boy Says:

Well, actually there are a lot of Americans who are in favor of Prosecuting GW Bush for Murder, War Crimes, Corruption, Lies and Crimes against the State.

56% believe he is a War Criminal

72% believe he has committed Impeachable Crimes.

And yet one person has "Impeachment is off the table".

And why is impeachment off the table, because it would show that Nancy was in the meetings where these impeachable offensives were discussed.

  9. Uncle Ho Says:

Nothing says justice better than Bush/Cheney et al, than dangling from ropes at Nuremberg-after their war crimes trials.

I really want to know what sort of information they got on Pelosi when they illegally wiretapped her office....

DING*DING*DING!!! We have a winner! Buckie Boy hits the nail on the head! Pelosi took impeachment off of the table to cover hers and other top democrats asses!

  13. tom Says:

I am way past the point of supporting impeachment. I have to reluctantly agree that beginning impeachment proceedings now would only give the republicant's the opportunity to play victim.

That is not to say that GDumbya and Darth Cheney aren't "impeachable". The democrats should have started the process two years ago but now it is too late. Instead, everything possible should be done to preserve evidence and to prepare to cooperate with any and all international tribunals. This is essential for us to re-claim our moral compass and our integrity as a nation.

  14. Uncle Fester Lurks Says:

Pelosi while on the Daily Show promoting her book said if anyone can point out a law that Bush had broken impeachment would be back on the table...point out!?! WTF!!!!!

Well I will by pass the obvious crimes and go with one not mentioned. Using depleted uranium in Iraq. Isn't it outlawed to use?

  15. DieNowForPeace Says:

Hard to prosecute someone you gave permission to break the law.

  16. machost Says:

IMHO, if the Republicans would like a fast track to restoring any pride in their party, they would do well to line up on the side of holding some (hell, ANY) of their members accountable for ANY of the things they've done over the past 8 years. When Mukasey declined to prosecute Goodling and Sampson, he simply reinforced the IOKIYAR mantra, and further eroded the republican "brand". I suppose I should rejoice in idea that their losses are our gains, but I've seen what a single party monopoly can do to this country, and I can't trust either party to be immune to the seduction of power.

  17. Keith H. Says:

He wouldn't want to lose the potential of re-election because he believes a mass murderer should be held accountable ?
Sounds like a real solid opinion.

Darth Cheney will unplug his defibrillator.

WASHINGTON - The number of homeowners stung by the dramatic decline in the U.S. housing market jumped last month as foreclosure filings grew by more than 50 percent compared with the same month a year ago, according to data released Thursday.

Nationwide, more than 272,000 homes received at least one foreclosure-related notice in July, up 55 percent from about 175,000 in the same month last year and up 8 percent from June, RealtyTrac Inc. said. That means one in every 464 U.S. households received a foreclosure filing last month.

A tiny little war crime which you are getting yourself involved in Nancy which has taken the lives of over a million man , women and children and was planned, as made obvious through the writings of the Project for a New American Century as was the patriot act long before 911 !

My dad actually bought on to the "freedom fries" thing. So embarrassing. And not because we disagree on every last thing politically, but because the idea was just so moronic on any level. It'd be stupid regardless of the reason.

I sit here wondering where he even gets this news from. I've never saw him watch news programs or really read the paper. I suppose it just gets funneled down through random people he knows.

    Oh well.

  26. barfly Says:

The congressman, according to Bugliosi, replied, "It's better that my name not come out at this point. But I promise you that after the election I'll be standing there by your side."

"Yeah, I'll be standing there by your side, after I'm reelected. My constituents are a bunch of rubes, and after I get their votes, I'll turn around, and support something they would never have approved.

A real profile in political courage.

  27. freeman Says:

Spying without a warrant to such an extent that our legislators feel compelled to write laws inorder to cover the law breakers spying on millions of Americans private lives emails , telephone calls and reading habits !
No accountability whatsoever and officially sanctioned by the very elected representatives that are sworn to uphold our constitutional rights against all enemies "foreign and domestic".
Of course Harry Reid was against the bill although he previously tried to get practically the same bill through the senate himself as it was going into recess with the big names out campaigning away from Washington and was well aware that the bill he was supposedly against would pass .However, his new stand would offer the democratic leadership political cover.

  33. RedTide Says:

To be accurate, Congressman Jones did not coin the term 'freedom fries'. It was coined by the owner of a small chain of restaurants in Jones' district. I used to live there, and imagine my horror when I moved to France and the only way people knew my former hometown was that it was where 'freedom fries' started. Sigh.

  34. Keith Says:

Cong. Conyers is heading an investigation into the forgery linking Atta to Iraq. Suskind has been on 'Democracy Now' Wed and Thur. The forgery comes from "The White House'. Speculation is it was Cheney.

  35. Keith Says:

Suskind says that Dearlove (British intelligence) said Bush basically turned over the powers of the presidency to Cheney. Not that there was any difference between the two in what they wanted, but Cheney did not have to go through Bush---even for something like forging intelligence.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich's homepage. Here's the letter he recently sent out.
Please read and go to the link above to sign the petition!

September 10th: The day before our world changed,
a day to change the world!
    Dear Friends,
On August 1st, I delivered to Speaker Nancy Pelosi; a petition bearing the
names of over 100,000 Americans that, like us, feel that the President
must be held accountable for abusing executive power and disregarding his
    Constitutional obligations.

Your voices have been heard and your support continues to send a powerful
message to lawmakers. That is why I call on you again to help us in a new
effort to deliver 1 Million signatures to Speaker Pelosi on September 10,
    2008.

    Together we can:
•Urge real Congressional action to hold President Bush accountable now
•Reinstate the authority of our Constitution
•Document crimes committed by President Bush for historical account
•Facilitate post-Administration law enforcement and prosecution
•Reset the standard for the incoming and future administrations
•Demand justice for the over 3,000 who died on 9/11and whose deaths were
tragically exploited to take us into an illegal war in Iraq
•Demand justice for the estimated 30,324 U.S. military personnel who have
    been injured/wounded
•Demand justice for the estimated 4,138 U.S. military personnel who have
    been killed or died
•Demand justice for the 1 Million innocent Iraqis who have died*
•Avert another illegitimate looming war – this time against Iran

We need your active participation to deliver 1 Million signatures to
    Congress by September 10, 2008.
Please give at least ten of your friends the opportunity to stand up for
our country - the way you and I have, by inviting them to sign the
impeachment petition online at http://www.Kucinich.us. Send your friends
an email invitation to sign the petition by clicking here.

Together we can make September 10, the day before the world changed, a day
    we change the world!

Thank you for your active and ongoing citizenship.

    ______

Bugliosi explains in the book why Bush can't legally be tried for war crimes - I forget the exact legal reason at the moment. However, he makes a compelling case as to why Bush and the others who knowingly lied to push the country to war can be tried for murder.

All it will take is one county or state prosecutor in a jurisdiction from which a service member was killed in Iraq, one grieving family willing to punish the man responsible for the death of their son or daughter. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Powell, and Rice could be put on trial for the murder of that service member.

It may seem anticlimactic to prosecute a mass murderer on just one count, the way it was anticlimactic to prosecute Al Capone for tax evasion. But a conviction is a conviction. Whatever it takes to put these people behind bars is fine by me.

  38. Mugsy Says:

Just an observation regarding "Freedom Fries" that I never hear anyone bring up.

It's a variation on "Liberty Cabbage", which became the popular replacement name for "Sauerkraut" during WWII.

It always struck me... not only that they stole the idea of renaming a food based upon "patriotism" in a time of war as if it were an original idea... but that it was yet another example of Republicans trying to conflate the Iraq war with WWII & Germany.
