Bill O’Reilly goes Hollywood.

By Faiz Shakir on Aug 16th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

Bill O’Reilly goes Hollywood.

“An American Carol” — a new movie which opens Oct. 3 — is directed by David Zucker and features a cameo by Bill O’Reilly. The film, according to O’Reilly, is “a spoof of the far left, focusing on Michael Moore, played by Kevin Farley — the late Chris Farley’s brother.” Pandagon notes that O’Reilly previewed the trailer on his show this week. The movie includes a scene in which O’Reilly follows the fictional Moore into a bathroom stall and slaps him. Watch it:

Jesse Taylor writes, “You know what’s less funny than this? Live streaming footage of murder. You know what’s more funny than this? Everything else.” (HT: Atrios)

Update In his book Culture Warrior, O'Reilly asserts, "Of course, Hollywood also trumpets the S-P [secular-progressive] agenda. So traditionalists are really up against it in the media -- with two huge exceptions: talk radio and Fox News." (p. 59)

  2. blue state bob says:

Can someone please slap Loofah boy, preferably with a board with a nail (Kang and Kodos Simpsons Reference)

  3. texaslady says:

I can’t stand to watch this man even to see how ridiculous he is. Bet it kills him that limbaugh was given such a sweet contract. well we can hope anyway.

  4. joe cantwell says:

    in the trailer:

    billy slaps a guy

    in the bathroom.

    not funny.

Hmmmm… the video doesn’t even load.

Guess my computer has good taste!

Wanna bet this goes straight to DVD, unlike all of Michael Moore’s movies?

    Too bad, so sad.

    PEACE

  6. barfly says:

David Zucker thinks there’s gold in them thar’ 23%’s, and pandering to their stereotypical worldview.

His American Dad sucks so bad, weather patterns are influenced, whenever it’s aired.

He peaked with Airport!, and the Naked Gun.

  7. Roket says:

And available on DVD by Halloween, for sure.

  8. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Bildo’s line in the movie: I enjoy slapping you

    Art imitating life?

Perhaps Bill is into rough phone sex?

  9. tokin librul says:

    I’d happily slap Bill-O.
I’ve got an old hickory Louisville Slugger I’ve been saving for the purpose…

  10. barfly says:

Zucker’s slapstick is occasionally funny, but his topical chops have always been weak, and heavily influenced by the use of stereotypes.

Although I’m glad to see Gary Coleman is finally back to work, as an actor.

  11. stateofthedivision says:

Timed to influence an election? Laugh your conservative, liberal hating arse off on the way to the polls.

This movie and the annual October low in gas prices are brought to you by ExxonMobil.

I’m sure there are funny bits about bankrupt Americans, from job loss, predatory lending, and high medical bills. Now, that’ll bring howls from the boot stappers!

  12. JaneaneTheAcerbicGoblin says:

I like David Zucker (I loved the Naked Gun movies), but man, this film looks weak. Even if you jettison your political opinions, the trailer isn’t very funny.

  13. barfly says:

Although if Zucker had really wanted to explore some ironic humor, he would have worked in an OJ Simpson reference. After all the times Zucker used him in movies, an OJ-like character would have made the audience sit up and say “what?”

  14. Mugsy says:

They’re calling it An American Carol???

So they’re mocking “A Christmas Carol”? Must be part of that “War on Christmas” I’ve heard so much about.

A more accurate title might of been, “Let’s Teach Michael Moore What it means to Love America” or “Freedom to Fascism”… oh, waitaminute, that one’s taken.

  15. scytherius says:

I love when the Right tries anything artistic. It fails SO badly that it adds to their “only 25% of the population supports us” persona.

  16. dixie blood says:

I guess it’s completely legal for some citizens, like David Zucker, to a manufacuture bomb.

  17. gitrdone says:

Well, judging by the crude humor in this movie…I can see which demographic in America their pandering to.

The simpletons after all can’t handle anything that requires an I.Q of 90 and above.

  18. celtic cynic says:

Bill O’Reilly followed someone into a bathroom stall. Did he have Larry Craig’s permission?

  19. ralph the wonder llama says:

Hey RaptureReady, that was a pretty good parody of Daryll.

But if it’s a parody of a parody… doesn’t that make it kind of silly?

  20. Bobwurst says:

Hey drywall, ya think the good reverend will ask mcgrampy about his adulterous affair with Cindy? That will be the test of how concerned your reverend is with the truth and with godliness as opposed to scoring political points for the neo-fascist republican base.

  21. Bobwurst says:

Strike Force America did a pretty good job of mocking the left, as does South Park, but they don’t count because, 1-they’re funny, and 2-they also mock the right.

  22. dbadass says:

That bait ain’t no good. If you wanna put a few fish on the hook you might wanna try some fresh clam or maybe some chunk mackeral…

  23. dbadass says:

    Rapture Ready,
I take it you are in the nude…

  24. thomthum says:

Did the voice over guy say “Rosie O’Connell” or am I hearing things?

    Anyone? Anyone?

Please don’t make me watch it again!

  25. Marie says:

    Yes, he said Rosie O’Connell.
I don’t usually waste my hard earned money on this kind of film – and even though BO has only a cameo, it would be enough to make me puke my popcorn.

  26. Marie says:

    Bobwurst,
In addition to a question or two about adultery with Cindy, I wonder if Warren will include others (more recently) like Vicki Iseman.

  27. Robt says:

    Somehow it is fitting,

In the clip for this “Carol”, Moore is sitting on the pot in an out house. There are 3 people in there slapping him. Moore asks OReilly if he is a spirit. ORielly replies, ” No, I just like slapping you”.

OReilly is proud of being portrayed in this clip as someone that loiters in toilet areas, while those he deplores are sitting on the pot taking a dump. And this is when he takes his opportunity to slap them.
Bill O, portraying himself as enjoying watching men on the crapper and gets off on, ” Slap & Tickle “, in the toilet with men.

Did BillO try to get Larry Craig a role in this scene? Them two might be closer than the public would want to imagine…!

  28. bob hussein lablah says:

#18 That is a wonderfully done parody. Nice work!

  29. spencers mom says:

    Marie Says:

    Bobwurst,

Oh, there were many, many more women during marriage #1 before Cindy came along. Carol, wife #1, said as much. She said that, after returning from Vietnam as a 40-year-old man, he wanted to be 25 again. Amazingly, she “understood”. The kids? Not so much…

With an ego like McLimp’s, I doubt that the hallmark infidelity of marriage #1 ended after marriage #2.

Now that McGramps is older than dirt, perhaps he’s tapered off on the cheating, but who knows? Actually, many people do and I hope at least some come forward.

The question I’d like to hear tonight is “how many times” have you committed adultery, and with how many different people, rather than “did you ever”… but that’s because I enjoy McStumble squirming to answer tough questions.

    PEACE

  30. spencers mom says:

From the LA Times blog about tonight’s faith forum (or whatever the phuque it’s called)

The personal stuff could get particularly touchy for McCain if it points back to his first marriage, which ended in 1980. As the Los Angeles Times has reported, McCain obtained a marriage license to wed his current wife, Cindy, while still legally married to his first wife, Carol. McCain has said he behaved badly and that the collapse of his first marriage “was attributable to my own selfishness and immaturity. The blame was entirely mine.”

But let’s look at these numbers. McStain was 44 at the time of his divorce/remarriage, so how do excuses of “immaturity” apply? It’s so reminiscent of King Georgie referring to his cocaine and drunken days as “back in his youth” when he was in his 40’s!

I guess we must concluded that, when it comes to GOPer leaders, immaturity lasts well into middle age.

Senator Obama seems quite mature, in comparison. Just saying…

    PEACE

  31. Robt says:

Thoughtful question for Rev Rick to ask of McSain’t.

“Senator McCain, recently at a campaign stop at Sturgis you, Offered and encouraged your wife, Cindy McCain, to enter in the Buffalo Chip Queens’s competition”.

    *Sir, where was your God?

*How does your faith in the Lord allow you to offer your wife into a contest of public sexual content?

*Did your wife refuse ? And what was her reason if so?

*If you excuse this for “not aware of what the contest involved”, what else would you offer your wife up for without prior knowledge?
And if President what would you offer America into without prior knowledge?

    *Now knowing about the contest,

    A) Would you appoligize to your wife in public after humiliating her in public ? (if you bellieve she was humiliated)?

    B) As President, if you now feel the Buffalo Chip Queen contest is sinful sexual lewd activity, would you as President ban such pagan acts in this Christan country?

    Just for starters?

  32. davetopper says:

Whenever the right creates parody it comes off as less parody and more like they truly are.

What comes to mind is FOX’s take off of The Daily Show. In this, if memory serves they tried to be the “right” as we the “left” see them. Art imitated life and they knew it. Ergo, not a stretch and ultimately not really funny.

O’Really himself is a parody. Of what, I really do not know.

  33. EugeneDebs says:

    RaptureReady Says:

Well of course no one cares. Under any nick you are an ignorant piece of garbage. Did you think coming in and insutling the left was a way to reach us? Blazing all new levels of abject stupidity Daryll the moron trying on a new set of clothes still coming to you live from his mommys basement

  34. Zooey says:

I loved the first Airplane movie, and the line up to slap the shit out of the hysterical passenger was hilarious — but this is missing the mark.

People with a sense of humor will roll their eyes, and people without a sense of humor won’t get it anyway.

  35. CitizenGeek says:

Wow, that trailer was painfully unfunny. Cringe-worthy, even. It’ll flop, I know it. Conservatives don’t understand humour, satire or irony and that’s the target audience, so it will fail. Besides, I’m pretty sure they’re pretty upset that there were ONLY TWO instances of gay people being the butt of a joke in that trailer.

  36. Robt says:

Anyone think that this (achem) film was really targeted for conservatives or young conservatives?

It could be targeted to rile the feathers of the left and cause some misdirection during the campaign silly season.

I’m sure another “Helter Coulter” book is due out.

I wouldn’t be surprised to find the Heritage Foundation and all the Right (achem) Think Tanks purchasing advanced copies of this (achem) spoof. You know for training purposes. Besides, that is one of the money laudering methods of the GOP.

  37. ralph the wonder llama says:

The right is inherently handicapped when it comes to comedy, because their instincts are to attack the weak (which normal people find offensive) and their typical way of viewing the world is to simplify things in order to get their minds around them.

Mature comedy plays on complexity, and on the deflation of the powerful. Neither of these characteristics play into the strengths of the Right.

That’s not to say that the Right is incapable of humor; it’s just that the factors are stacked against them.

Kind of like with reality’s liberal bias.

  38. joe cantwell says:

    ralph,

    you’re probably right.

    not many trolls defending

    the movie or billy.

    *

    and that’s a shame because

    it would have been funny.

    +

in a funny kind of way.

    *

    thank you.

  39. moondancer says:

Two thousand theaters? Boy I smell the stench of flop already. I wonder if the wingnut foundations will buy all the tickets so it’s a hit like they do with Corsi’s and Jonah Goldbergs books?

  40. CitizenGeek says:

their typical way of viewing the world is to simplify things in order to get their minds around them.

So very true. This is the reason that conservatives come out as happier in surveys. They can justify the outrageous inequalities in society because they’ve drastically oversimplified them and dumbed them down.

  41. dasm says:

How will O’Reilly ever be able to ridicule Hollywood again- he’s one of them!! He’s a left wing librul wingnut now! (since all actors are, according to him)

  42. sectionop92 says:

What will Bill O’Reilly have in common with Lindsay Lohan?

Multiple Razzie nominations AND easy wins in some of those categories! Oooh, Billo really stepped on this one without thinking about it twice.

  43. EugeneDebs says:

    dasm Says:

How will O’Reilly ever be able to ridicule Hollywood again- he’s one of them!! He’s a left wing librul wingnut now! (since all actors are, according to him)

THAT will be no problem. O’falafel has no sense of humor or irony but he has hypocrisy up the ying yang

  44. Pete Tagliani says:

When conservatives try to do humor, it always reminds me of when Pat Boone put out that metal album.

  45. Loneoak says:

Will O’Reilly tap his toes in that bathroom stall?

  46. turnerj41 says:

This guys distortion of the world is offensive; if I weren’t principled otherwise I’d call to ban export of such hate speech.

Moore’s work is respected, though his occasional wild assertions can be distasteful too.

This is not a good satire, Naked Gun was 20 years ago and David Zucker’s prosperity has molded a beast.

I hope the narcissist in him has him read these posts. The prosperity from a mediocre Naked Gun must have gone to his head, 20 years of pure crap after that.

His brother and family friend did much better and they should be ashamed to be associated with him.

  47. Bozo The Neoclown says:

go figure a republiperv male following another male into a restroom. i am sure dildo o’lielly had to resist the urge of going in a stall and tapping his foot.
