Last week, news broke that Ralph Reed, former Christian Coalition director and crony of Jack Abramoff, would be helping to raise money for Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) fundraiser in Atlanta. Reed “touted himself as a member of McCain’s ‘Victory 2008 Team’ in an e-mail that solicited donations on McCain’s behalf,” and public watchdog organizations called on McCain to denounce Reed. The Wall Street Journal now reports that Reed was a no-show at tonight’s Atlanta fundraiser:
On Monday evening, there was no sign of Reed at the Marriott Marquis here and no mention of him by McCain during his remarks. A campaign spokesperson confirmed that Reed would not be in attendance but declined to say whether the campaign had asked him to keep his distance.
The McCain campaign has insisted that Reed “sent the messages on his own and was not coordinating with the campaign,” but Reed told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that “he sent the e-mail at the request of the campaign and was given boilerplate language to use.” As Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) has pointed out, when McCain led a Senate investigation into the Abramoff scandal, he failed to call Reed to testify.
ahhh..that is sweet, isn’t it?
August 18th, 2008 at 10:18 pmI heard an NPR report on this fundraiser and the connection between the two.
The report said that McCain investigated Reed and his connections with Abramoff and the fleecing of the Indian tribes, but at least it mentioned that McCain never called Reed to testify.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:20 pmlol. Priceless.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:21 pmReed had an urgent appointment with his plastic surgeon.

When caught, lie, steet, and cheal.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:32 pmZooey,
Are you back to the grind with the books? We should be able to call it a zooeylian slip in a year, shouldn’t we?
August 18th, 2008 at 10:35 pmMcCain’s campaign has apparently determined that Reed is too hot for now — wait a few weeks and he will return, like Phil Gramm. They only use each other to raise money from their stupid believers.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:35 pmMarie Says: “They only use each other to raise money from their stupid believers.”
Marie,
I agree with the stupid part but they aren’t believers. They may be liers or bevers but they are really just hopers.
August 18th, 2008 at 10:40 pmCrusty Old Bastard,
Next Monday is the start of semester. As long as you don’t call it a drooliam slip, I’m good. :)

Is this a recent investigation NPR reported or the old pre-indictment Abramoff investigation with McCain as chair of the Indian Affairs Committee?
August 18th, 2008 at 10:52 pmAnd in other news, Teflon John once again escapes unscathed for his escapades before and during Pastor Warren’s fundie lovefest.
Stomach distress bag in hand, I watched the Larry King/Warrenn performance, and of course McStain, the Secret Service and Warren’s own production people could be trusted to keep Teflon John from getting a sneak peek at Obama’s segment.
The Secret Service… yes, I’m so sure that their duties for that night were to make sure that John was kept in a “virtual cone of silence” and would have certainly filed a report had that been violated.
And Warren made sure to point out the “tears in the Senator’s eyes” on three separate occasions, one of which was while discussing his first marriage. Guess that’s why the good Christian gave him a pass on explaining his adultery to the inquiring minds in the audience.
All I can say is THANK GOD FOR OLBERMANN!!!! Great Special Comment tonight.
PEACE
August 18th, 2008 at 11:10 pmMy god, spencer’s mom, that is frickin’ awesome stoopit shit.
No wonder the christians lap it up.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:16 pmThe McCain campaign has insisted that Reed “sent the messages on his own and was not coordinating with the campaign,” but Reed told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that “he sent the e-mail at the request of the campaign and was given boilerplate language to use.” As Rep. McCain may have plausible deniability here but he’s not actually fooling anyone (except those who want to be fooled). McCain will do anything to get elected including Rovian dirty tricks and using criminals to raise money. The “maverick” is no more principled that any other Republican.

August 18th, 2008 at 11:16 pmZooey, I think the tears were from thinking that someone, somewhere will eventually come forward and reveal the buckets of slime that comprise McStain’s past.
Why just typing that one glimmer of hope puts tears in my own eyes.
I sure hope Obama’s campaign is prepared to take off the gloves this fall, and that they’re just playing a really, really good game of poker right now.
PEACE
August 18th, 2008 at 11:24 pmGotta wonder if McIIIrd should have been in a ‘Conehead of Silence’.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:29 pmAkroyd would’ve made us proud.
spencers mom at 11:24 pm
Two different Progressive talk shows have said McSame has to burn up his money between now and the Repug convention, when he will have to start his public-funding limits. After that, Obama will have the advantage going forward. I think the “gloves will come off” pretty soon now.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:34 pmZooey,
Hang in there! You too shall pass! On to bigger and better things.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:35 pmCrusty,
A 4.0 GPA does wonders in that area. :)
August 18th, 2008 at 11:39 pmOt…but who needs another Grampy McLame post anyway.
Here are a few examples of the results of Bushco’s greed and stupidity. Chew on it trolls. Hope you’re bright enough to digest it all.

August 18th, 2008 at 11:50 pmGood for you, Zooey, good for you!
And to think that the man who wants to be president couldn’t even manage to graduate in the top 99% of his class! 894th out of 899! Older than dirt? No, dumber than dirt!
You keep up the good work, Z!
PEACE
August 18th, 2008 at 11:51 pmThe McCain campaign has insisted that Reed “sent the messages on his own and was not coordinating with the campaign,” but Reed told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that “he sent the e-mail at the request of the campaign and was given boilerplate language to use.”
To quote the Knickerbockers
“Lies! Lies! You’re telling me that you’ll be true.
August 18th, 2008 at 11:57 pmLies, lies, that’s all I ever get from you…”
Nice GPA Z! Damn. It’s nice to be dedicated, lady!
August 18th, 2008 at 11:58 pmI hope you’re getting a scholarship, Zooey??
August 18th, 2008 at 11:59 pmI bet the President had a GPA that contained the numbers 0 and 4 as well. :)
August 19th, 2008 at 12:14 amCount, and perhaps a minus sign in front…?
August 19th, 2008 at 12:20 amOy, thanks all.
I think I drifted off. :D
August 19th, 2008 at 1:47 amWelcome to the new John McCain.
From the same partisans that got the Supreme Court to pick your president and from the same marketing group that resold you Bush a second time.
August 19th, 2008 at 3:28 amTangled webs are weaving.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:44 amPoor ralph reed…how the mighty have fallen out of grace in the waaahhhpublican party. it would be poetic justice (since grampy mclame essentially used him like a cheap whore) if he decided to write a “tell all” in the vein of scotty mcclellan
August 19th, 2008 at 6:48 amWhy is Ralph Reed not in prison? Is fraud no longer a crime?
August 19th, 2008 at 8:44 amspencer’s mom said he graduated from Annapolis 894 out of 899. Each grad gives the last guy a buck . . . maybe McCain was trying to be the goat . . . and couldn’t even succeed at being the dumbest guy at the Academy. Well, he’s made up for losing out on that $898, hasn’t he?
August 19th, 2008 at 8:54 amMcCain tries to come on as a Knight in shining armor, but everything he touches & everyone around him are toxic.
You can tell a Man by the company he keeps. Hagee, Reed, Gramm…
August 19th, 2008 at 9:00 amDid they look under the straight talk express bus?
August 19th, 2008 at 9:56 amthat maybe the case there pixel but you know the Mormon fundies are still more likely to vote Republican so polygamy is an issue to be ignored with McCain. Now, if they were a bunch of liberal hippies living in sin, weeeellll different story entirely.
