MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann announces on DailyKos that frequent guest host Rachel Maddow will be getting her own show on the network beginning next month:
The network will be formally announcing this tomorrow, but I am pleased to inform you in this fully authorized leak, that as of Monday, September 8, our mutual friend Ms. Maddow will become host of her own show, on MSNBC, at 9 PM Eastern Time. And, yes, we will be making another unofficial announcement of this on tonight’s edition of Countdown. My guest to analyze the Rachel Maddow news will be Rachel Maddow.
“Yes, you had something to do with it,” Olbermann adds.
Cool!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:31 pmThat just trips my trigger!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:32 pmAnd it looks like she'll be replacing "The Verdict" It's a win-win!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:32 pmHURRAH!!! I love Rachel!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:33 pmPhanPhuckingTastic!
C-Ya Dan!
Now if we could get Stephanie Miller or somebody on the otherside of K.O. to replace Tweety, we might have station. or Bring back Donahue?
August 19th, 2008 at 6:34 pmWow you mean there might be 2 watchable shows on cable news?
August 19th, 2008 at 6:35 pmHmm, a slightly more progressive flavor for MSNBC. A small step forward. Now if MSNBC can dump and replace all that stupid bogus crap they run all weekend long: phony "crime investigations." How about hiring a few progressive bloggers from say, TP, DailyKos, or Huffingtonpost and do some in-depth investigation in the biggest criminal enterprise in American history: the Bush gangster regime. Bush Lies, torture, treason, cronyism, fascism, electronically stolen elections, destroying the Constitution, for starters...
August 19th, 2008 at 6:38 pmNothing fries neoclowns asses more than rachael maddow: a lesbian with a Ph.d and now her own show. What do they have...Angry Trannie Annie Coulter and the rest of the stepford wives.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:40 pmBout effin time. She's top notch, sharp as a tack. I hope like hell she brings on dufi like Tom Delay, Newt and the other white boy pundacious pricks and slices and dices them to itty bitty shitbits.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:42 pmOMG, NO!!!! The Gays and Lesbians will now have a MSM conduit to promote their insidious* agenda. Noooooooooooo!!!!!
* - I assume it's insidious but no one ever clarifies.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:42 pmBozo, don't forget the undereducated pasty boys like Ben Gleck, Han Shammity, et al.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:43 pmthis is the best news all year! couldn't have happened to a better person!
Now let's get Sam Seder back on the air...
August 19th, 2008 at 6:45 pmBadmoodman,
I know that it has something to do with stealing Christmas, but that's as much as I'm allowed to divulge.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:46 pmWOOOO HOOO!!!!
I know this is what you wanted, Bilbo!!! It's what we all wanted!!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:49 pmNext they have to get rid of that poop stain Joe Scar in the morning.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:49 pmI love Rachel Maddow. And more importantly, I will love seeing the righties getting roasted by her on a regular basis. And even better than that, considering they think gays and lesbians are somehow subhuman, I can't WAIT to see them shut down.
And you're right, #7; I'm soooooo sick of the Lockup! and To Catch a Predator dreck. Does anyone watch that stuff who's not already running a colorable risk of becoming a featured guest?
August 19th, 2008 at 6:50 pmWOO HOO HOO! YAAAY!
i just came in from the garden, hoped to make it in time for the start of rachels AAR show... heard the tail end of some phone calls she was taking - she SELDOM takes calls, so i went to her site - http://airamerica.com/maddow - and found this:
The New York Times has already made it public so now it is time to talk about the great news-- MSNBC has given Rachel her own show. She will be on at 9pm following Countdown 5 nights a week starting September 8.
came here to post it and, woo hoo! ... did it anyway!
this is such great news!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:52 pmAll very well for the rest of you to be jumping up and down, but this just doubled the number of shows I can't watch on MSNBC, thanks to Comcast.
Even though I can check up on all kinds of shopping and jewelry channels (and FauxSnooze), they bumped MSNBC up to the 100 series channels and I can't watch without paying for premium service.
Boooooo, Comcast!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:53 pmRachel is probably the best pure talker on the air right now. She is extremely intelligent, does her homework, calls bullshit on the right people and is ALWAYS prepared.
Will be a great addition to the MSNBC lineup.
Maybe there is a little balance starting to show up, after all those ex-BushCo buttholes that have slithered into Faux and CBS.
August 19th, 2008 at 6:56 pmThat's great, just great. MSNBC deserves some credit for acknowledging liberal Americans are part of America's political life. I'll send a nice note over there as I give them a hard time when they go to the right.
It'll be interesting to see what effect this has on the rightward listing CNN. CNN is really going down the tubes after Fox Noise with Glenn Beck's bloviating and a persistent rightwing bias. MSNB will take away more of CNN's (51%) liberal viewership. Good!
August 19th, 2008 at 6:56 pmYaay Rachel! Congrats!
August 19th, 2008 at 7:02 pmRachel is an extremely fast-witted, articulate woman who can hold her own to anybody in a debate. I'm so glad that she has her own show on MSNBC. She deserves it. Hopefully she will replace that Verdict "Dan" guy, who doesn't even have the decency to announce after his show is over that one of the most popular news shows: "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" is next. Everybody elso does.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:05 pmgummitch at 6:53 pm
"...this just doubled the number of shows I can’t watch on MSNBC, thanks to Comcast.

For you it is a question of money. My Concast doesn't even offer MSNBC so I have to rely on the clips I can find on the blogs. Still, this is good news for the country. Also proof that progressive sells.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:12 pmI'm curious to see Which Advertisers run commercials during
Ms. Maddow's new show.
So much for the Notion that Air America type programming is commercially Unviable.
George W., we coudn't have done it without you.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:14 pmTo House of Roberts:
I say, bump Comcast. They are terrible. In many communities, you can now have more than one choice of cable providers. Verizon is advertising coverage on its fiber optic system.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:16 pmLook into it. Any company that bumps such a popular station as MSNBC is either stupid or just plain greedy. Good luck.
Plus, many shows on MSNBC are available as Podcasts if you are so inclined.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:19 pmGood news. Finally, a bit more balance to the right wing crap (thank you rush) the serves for broadcast journalism these days.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:23 pmI don't subscribe to cable so I'm limited to clips as well, but, Ms. Maddow strikes me as being one of the smartest, sanest, personalities in the media. I hope she gets at least some creative control.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:32 pmjkd7854 at 7:16 pm
August 19th, 2008 at 7:32 pmWe've never had MSNBC, but CNBC has been on since it was new. I could switch to Knology, which carries MSNBC but the rest of their lineup sucks. Normally, I am at work right now, but I am recovering from a minor foot surgery for another week or so. I could DVR KO and Rachel and watch them at three AM when I get home, however. I might look into the podcast angle, so thanks for that idea.
While this is certainly good news to see a liberal host her own show on the corporate airwaves, one has to wonder if Ms. Maddow will place party over principle by refraining from criticizing Obama's increasing swing to the right and especially his militaristic stance toward Afghanistan, which will only add more misery and suffering and death and destruction upon the Afghani people.
August 19th, 2008 at 7:51 pmThis is great news...the first progressive female with her own show and voice on nationwide cable/network/public tv. Really awwwwesome!!!
August 19th, 2008 at 7:55 pmIt's about time!
I predicted this months ago (I know, so did a lot of other people). Now that it is about to occur, I hope that she and MSNBC create a smart, creative program that enhances the news sphere. The last thing we need is another descendant of the Crossfire genus of shouting matches that has already proved to be a failure.
Go Rachel - and take the fight to the rightists and their boy J-Mac.
The election season now officially starts on 9/8/08.

Verizon is only available (at least in this area) where there is very new construction; they didn't build out their fiberoptics in the older areas. We have a choice between Comcast and one of the satellite providers, which my property management firm refuses to allow. So, no option.
August 19th, 2008 at 8:04 pmZed,
You are too funny. Almost as funny as Daryll, but without quite the religious furor.
Glad you like lesbians, because she is a great one. Also, while you are lapping at billo's minuscule gonads, Keith keeps picking up points in the ratings mix. Will be fun to watch all the Faux phonies after the elections; they won't know whether to shit or go blind.
Heh Heh
August 19th, 2008 at 8:08 pmCheer Cheer Cheer that's 3 for the most cognizant voice from the side of reason. One guest won't be Joe Scarbrough who got his ass handed back to himself and gift wrapped to boot
August 19th, 2008 at 8:18 pmFantastic!!
I may have to re-subscribe to cable!
August 19th, 2008 at 8:21 pmMy tivo awaits!
August 19th, 2008 at 8:31 pmI love me some Rachel...........
August 19th, 2008 at 8:44 pmI just saw the announcement on Keith Olbermann's Countdown, with Rachel and Keith bantering about what to call her new MSNBC program.
How about:
"NOW with Rachel Maddow"
Catchy, with NOW having several meanings...if you get what I mean.
Or, maybe:
"WOW with Rachel Maddow"
(Hey, I'm just trying out different rhymes).
August 19th, 2008 at 8:53 pmcongrats, rachel.
i'm looking forward to
"ask dr, maddow".
*
will she be bringing
"now, with kent jones now"
with her?
(i hope.)
:)
good luck.
@
August 19th, 2008 at 9:00 pmooo! ooo! ooo! can i get in line to host her radio show? i'm smart, articulate, sometimes funny, and i look good in a suit, PLUS, i like girls, too.
i just think a kent jones is a terrible thing to waste.
August 19th, 2008 at 9:14 pmDan Abrams is bad but David Gregory is even worse. He's on at 6 Eastern time isn't he. I'd love to see that propagandist get the boot.
August 19th, 2008 at 9:45 pmRachel when I saw you in Seattle Saturday, everyone was clammoring for you to get your own show. This is fabulous. I told you that you are a remarkable young woman! You rock and I am so proud of you. Keep America thinking.
August 19th, 2008 at 10:38 pmGreat news! A Rhodes Scholar, PhD and one very smart woman that can make sense out of all the non-sense this world and the Nitwits that have been running it have offered us.
It's too bad really that "Smart" people are denigrated as much as they are. Obama - smart, McCain - not so smart. The Repuglicans must think that it needs to put up candidates that match the intellience of their base. So sad for our country.
Someone Smart for President this time! Vote Obama!
August 19th, 2008 at 10:58 pmGood move for MSNBC -- good for the rest of us too!
Although I have grown to like Dan Abrams - I hope he is still going to be around -- he could replace David Gregory.
August 19th, 2008 at 11:05 pmSo now that MSNBC is pretty much the mouthpiece for the HATE AMERICA far left, I guess it was inevitable that they would go with Lesbian Rachel Maddow. It was pretty evident that old KO was taking a lot of time off to settle his legal problems. Hope that Mad Cow will have Conservative Lesbian, Tammy Bruce, on her program. KO only had the same 6 stooges on all the time.
August 19th, 2008 at 11:13 pmDan Abrams was actually KOs boss and Verdict was just a filler till they decided which Air America HATE AMERICA far left liberal to promote. Lets see if either of them can catch up to O'Reilly of H&C.
August 19th, 2008 at 11:16 pmI am over the moon about Rachel getting a regular gig on the TV machine. She more than deserving.
I am equally thrilled she won't have to spend more time on David Gregory's idiotic show. I won't have to watch his incessant drooling over McCranky, and him trying to convince Rachel (and everyone else) that Obama has an arrogance problem. Bleeech.
Yippee for Dr. Maddow! that's Mad-OH NOT Mad-OW
August 19th, 2008 at 11:18 pmhomerfobe, you just don't know anything about anything. Dan Abrams resigned from management some time ago because he wanted to be on the air instead. And I wouldn't worry about KO either, he seems to be doing just fine. And you believe NBC really cares about the rating of Fox News. What a joke.
August 19th, 2008 at 11:48 pmGod has spoken and SHE is very wise.
August 20th, 2008 at 12:05 amhomerfobe,
Are you as stoopid as you seem or just pretending? Either way, you are a shit bag.
August 20th, 2008 at 12:07 amI liked her on "30 Minute Meals" too...YUMMO!
August 20th, 2008 at 12:27 amIt's about damn time. This is great news :)
August 20th, 2008 at 1:38 amFANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clearly, the most intelligent, educated (that is Dr. Maddow, if you please, for those of you who don't know, she has a Ph.D in Political Science), thoughtful, serious and attractive "talking head" on Cable News. AND she doesn't, need mini-skirts, push-up bras, hairdo's and six pounds of makeup to do it.
A beautiful woman with a brain - the true definition of a FemiNazi - Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly's worst nightmare!!!
GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 20th, 2008 at 5:33 amhomerfobe Says:
So now that MSNBC is pretty much the mouthpiece for the HATE AMERICA far left, I
Where do you hate reality incredibly stupid cretins come from? Is there some special corner of Texas where they inbreed you morons special to spread your stupidity on websites? Please do the world a favor and obtain a vascectomy preferrably from a street vendor with a rusty razor so you dont pollute our gene pool with your unbelievable ignorance. The rightwing HATES facts, HATES Freedom HATES America HATES reality and in their cramped world of abject stupidity blames the left of hating. We expect it. Hate and ignorance are the rightwing strongpoints. Why dont you go back and hide under your mommys bed and let the adults talk
August 20th, 2008 at 6:21 amTwo words: Chris Matthews. Hard ball is worthless. At least David Gregory USED to be a real journalist.
August 20th, 2008 at 8:17 amFinally, a clever young woman has the limelite on MSM. Someone to hold the attention with some meaningful NEWS.
August 20th, 2008 at 8:56 amI love Rachel! However, if MSNBC forces her to quote the nonsensical daily polls I won't watch.
August 20th, 2008 at 9:07 amGood!!!
August 20th, 2008 at 9:35 amScarborough must be crapping himself right now. I hope he has a stroke over it. Maybe they should force him to be on her show and have to actually engage her in debate while she is holding the "power of the button". she will corner him, he will respond with inane insults, she will call him on it, he will try to get up and leave, but this time, they will show his petulant tantrum for all to see, instead of hiding it to preserve his so called "dignity"
Oh, BYW, Scarborough is a murderer.
August 20th, 2008 at 9:49 amThe one thing about Maddow that impressed me the most, aside from her obvious intellect, was that she wasn't afraid to speak her mind, even if it didn't agree with the 'traditional' Progressive mindset.
August 20th, 2008 at 9:57 amSince my cable company picked up more channels along with MSNBC I NEVER watch CNN anymore. Rachel Maddow is the best of the best!
August 20th, 2008 at 10:21 amWay Cool! What a wonderful next step...lots more needed...but this is real good/great. All the comments are valid, however twisted. Think we could add Jack Cafferty to the list of alsos!
August 20th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
