Limbaugh Calls Possibility Of Pro-Choice McCain Running Mate ‘Crap,’ Likens It To ‘Committing Suicide’

rushblue.jpgToday on his radio show, conservative talker Rush Limbaugh addressed the recently raised possibility that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) could choose a pro-choice running mate. Limbaugh argued forcefully against the prospect, calling it “crap” and likening it to “committing suicide.” If McCain picks a pro-choice running mate, Limbaugh said, he “will have effectively destroyed the Republican party“:

LIMBAUGH: If he picks a pro-choice running mate, it’s not going to be pretty. [...]

How about some discussion from the McCain about a conservative that can be counted on across the board, who can help lead the country in the right direction, who can help rebuild the Republican party? This is crap, what is this about picking a liberal Democrat of a liberal Republican? [...]

Particularly pro-choice. If he does that. If the McCain camp does that, they will have effectively destroyed the Republican party and put the conservative movement in the bleachers. … We’re committing suicide in the midst of two events that could launch this party to sweeping victory in November. … One wrong selection as vice president can wipe all that out.

Listen here:

Regardless of who McCain picks, there is little doubt that his administration would be hostile to women’s rights. McCain recently declared that Roe v. Wade “should be overturned” and professes a desire to end “abortion at the state level” on his campaign website.

But McCain goes further than just attempting to deny women choice. He has “never cosponsored or supported legislation that would prevent unintended pregnancy or reduce the need for abortion.” He opposes government-funded condom distribution and voted to prohibit federally funded family-planning clinics from providing women with access to full information about their reproductive-health options. Instead, McCain is a strong supporter of abstinence-only education.

McCain and Limbaugh — while in agreement with each other — could not be further from the American people on women’s right to choose. Indeed, a recent Quinnipiac University poll found that 63 percent of Americans agree with the ruling in Roe v. Wade and just 14 percent of Americans believe that abortion should “always be illegal.”

Digg It!

UpdateMark Halperin reports that according to "a GOP strategist," the pro-choice former Pennsylvania governor, Tom Ridge, "is no longer being considered as McCain's veep." But Politico’s Mike Allen and Jonathan Martin report that Ridge is under “serious consideration,” as is Joe Lieberman.

  5. misshusseinmolly Says:

I agree with Rush that McCain won't name anybody to be his running mate unless they are fervently anti-abortion, but then our views diverge. He considers it to be political "suicide" if he chooses a pro-choice candidate, and I just think McCain will move heaven and earth to pander to the evangelical right.

What appears to be lost on McCain is that he is expending all his energy going after a small segment of the voters, and in doing so he's alienating everybody else.

So when Jesus told you Gov. Huckabee was ordained to be President-elect", Jeus was just messin' with your head?

So what makes you so damn sure you've got all the rest of it right, to the point that you can lecture all of us "sinful libs" on our values?

I'm just curious. After all, if you were that wrong about "President-elect Huckabee", what else might you be wrong about?

  54. dbadass Says:

Oh, did you hear that Obama raised 51 million to McBush's 21 million? That's pretty sad that McCain can't raise any more money than that from "we the people". That's why McBush took public financing. He knew that he wouldn't be getting any donations from "we the people" so he took it in our taxpayer dollars.

    ___________________________________________________________

I suspect that 63% IS most likely a true number, but that abortion is not as important an issue with Americans as -- oh, say -- the economy and the price of gas, for example. Which means people will vote for McSame in spite of his position on abortion because he's trumpeting "drill here, drill now."

I also suspect that McBush would be way behind Obama in the polls if the media would do their job properly -- focus on McCain and his lies and flip-flops, quit calling him a maverick, stop obliging Rove and his smear band, and level with the public about how an oil industry land grab won't affect the pump price of gasoline.

    ____________________________________________________________

Daryll, Daryll, Daryll -- sometimes your innocence is truly precious.

There's a BIG difference between sending t-shirts, messages, and invitations to donors and actually allowing them input on policy matters or choice of veep.

The t-shirts and trinkets you get are for you to wear or display -- that's advertising for them.

The messages you get mean you got on their mailing list. They are thanking you for your donation and encouraging you to donate more.

The "invites for key donors only" are invitations for you to attend events where check-writing will be the biggest activity -- or for you to attend a rally, where you will be encouraged to sign up to do volunteer work.

And all this is fine if you truly want to work to get your candidate elected. But don't delude yourself into thinking that they are consulting their $500 donors when it comes to making key decisions.

To put this into perspective -- Paris Hilton's parents contributed $4,600 to the McCain campaign ($2,300 each -- the maximum amount), and the McCain campaign STILL trashed their daughter in one of their ads.

Why would any carbon based lifeform be so insidiously ignorant then be so proud of it? You are of the Limborg, you have been assmiliated and let morons do your thinking for you making you nothing but a cheap tape recorder spewing the stupidest talking points imaginable. That shows the world that you KNOW you are incredibly ignorant you KNOW you are far too stupid to think for yourself so you tune in to whatever righwing screechmonkey does your thinking for you and repeat the ignorance like referring to Barak as Hussien, as if it were clever. You are so desperate for someone, ANYONE to think you are clever you repeat the stupidity that people with normal IQs just roll their eyes at because you are not only so stupid you think its clever but because you think WE wont KNOW it came from someone else. I hate to burst your bubble but these are smart people here. We RECOGNIZE the ignorant talking points and we knew they were the rantings worthy of a marginally bright ten year old. Why dont you stop humiliating yourself here. You are nothing but an object of pity
