Yesterday on his radio show, right-wing talker Rush Limbaugh said it’s “striking how unqualified Obama is and how this whole thing came about within the Democrat Party. I think it really goes back to the fact that nobody had the guts to stand up and say no to a black guy.” Limbaugh continued:
I think this is a classic illustration here where affirmative action has reared its ugly head against them. It’s the reverse of it. They’ve, they’ve ended up nominating and placing at the top of their ticket somebody who’s not qualified, who has not earned it. [...]
It’s perfect affirmative action. And because of all this guilt and the historic nature of things, nobody had the guts to say, well, wait a minute, do we really want to do this?

I heard a caller to the Thom Heartmann show come up with a great strategy to combat McCain’s “heroic service” as a POW. Obama or a surrogate needs to bring up the propaganda tapes that McCain did for the Vietnamese. Then they need to point out that McCain said that they tortured him but he gave them nothing. Then ask him, “you are saying that torture doesn’t work by defending the tapes you made, but you are now saying that torture is OK because it works”. Which is true, what you said then or what you said now. If he says that torture works, then we can ask him “how can we know that you didn’t actually give away secrets then.” It’s a box that McCain won’t be able to get out of and it doesn’t question his service in the military. They can also say to McCain, so according to Bush, you weren’t tortured, you were subjected to “enhanced interrogation techniques. Would you agree to that Mr. McCain, or do you still contend you were tortured”.
Someone needs to bring up McCain’s service and the fact that he filmed propaganda tapes for the Vietnamese. Is that what a “hero” would have done?

Even if the polls on the economy, among other issues, don’t favor Republicans handling, the right wants us to believe that we should feel impaired and despaired. They’re in the worst documented state, yet they intend to pull a PR stunt in the form of encouraging the masses not to vote, and they intend to encourage people individual as to make them forget their collective potential.
They did it in 2000. They did it in 2004. They did in with Iraq. They will do so this year. The worst of America’s children growing up back a couple of generations ago have been taking up America’s influence, folks.

Not in the least scary. First, Politico is a right wing site so it’s in their interests to skew the data. Second, Obama hasn’t yet begun to fight. Most people polled today still think that McCain is a Maverick and a Moderate. When they find out that’s not true, they will change their minds in a hurry. Second, I suspect that Obama has it on good authority that McCain isn’t going to be the candidate. I suspect that the Republicans are going to pull a switch at their convention, so Obama is not wasting money on McCain. We’ll know soon, but no, I’m not worried.
Polls can easily be skewed and the polling outfits have a vested interest in keeping them skewed, as does the MSM. They won’t be making much money if the true pulse of the nation was taken and it looks like a landslide. The polls also don’t account for the young people with only cell phones nor do they account for the fact that the Democrats (who far outnumber the Republicans today) voted 4-1 over the Republicans.
So, don’t panic, it’s going to be a landslide. There’s not much the Republicans can do about it except to try to panic everyone.

I think there are incentive/performance clause(s) in his new contract, linked to the election results. If McCain loses, the contract payout is reduced or maybe reverts back to his previous rate. When you’re shelling out $400MM, you want to tie the quality of his propaganda work to important benchmarks. Rush’s ‘talent’ lies entirely in taking the least logical, dirtiest and most shameful gut reactions…the most hateful kneejerk reactions, and then spewing them out. If they ring with others they’re mistaken for truth, but they’re not truth, they’re widespread prejudices.
He’s easy to see through, but unfortunately it takes at least one millisecond of thought, which is too much to ask of a depressing portion of the population. We’ll be FAR better off without his voice in the discourse, may the day come soon.

I think its appalling how people are calling for boycotts of his sponsors but they don’t listen to the show so they don’t even understand the context of his comments. They simply read the paraphrase and immediately make a judgment. Defeating ignorance with more ignorance. I love America.
