Obama sounds more like he wants the draft and since Biden believes they will be "tested" that really scares me.

<em><strong>But it’s also important that a president speaks to military service as an obligation not just of some, but of many. You know, I traveled, obviously, a lot over the last 19 months. And if you go to small towns, throughout the Midwest or the Southwest or the South, every town has tons of young people who are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. That’s not always the case in other parts of the country, in more urban centers. And I think it’s important for the president to say, this is an important obligation. If we are going into war, then all of us go, not just some.</strong></em>

listen to Obama's comments at the 911 presidential forum.

fast forward to 1:10:00 to get to his comments

Regardless of what you all think of McCain or Obama here is the truth. Our country has become a weak nation with entitlement written across our foreheads. While our dear soldiers have to serve three back to back tours and we go on in our normal existence not feeling any effects of a war. I would gladly go if drafted and you selfish Americans have forgotten how this country was formed. The time has come when the burden of these idiots, Dems and Reps, must be bailed out by the sweat, blood, and tears of our people. Who are you to disgrace all that have died for pointless wars by saying that if called upon by your country you wouldn't go. We have made this mess in Iraq and if we back away now like Obama wants we will see an Iran twice as strong and evil. I never agreed with going into Iraq, but the burden is on us now. We had over half a million troops just to push Iraq out of Kuwait during Desert Storm. Now we are trying to occupy a country with 120,000. The bottom line is a draft is needed and we have prolonged to long. If a draft does happen, it is about time we felt the pain of this war that our great soldiers have worn on their shoulders for five years. If we were held accountable from the beginning we wouldn't have entered Iraq. Instead we sat in our homes and forgot all about this war and now we will pay the price when Obama gets elected. It is in this day in age when a man like Ron Paul who is a true American in the sense of liberty is labeled a crazy, and our country is so weak that I truly believe that even if an Iranian tank rolled across the Canadian border this country now filled with obese citizens would sit on their asses and not lift a finger. I am growing disgusted to see myself as one of the few true Americans!!!!!!!!!

…Excuse my grammar I am to upset to double check it!!!!!

McWarmonger, McClueless, McNuts, McAlzeimers, McBush.

He is just a money hungry wealthy elitist, wanting war for his own personal gain/profit. He is the text book definition of a typical power hungry politician and has zero interest of helping the average folk.

Under his vision we should all sign up, or be drafted, march off to war, come home with no benefits/help (see what happened to WW1 Vets & look at his own personal voting record), same corporate tax cuts, no jobs (outsourcing), maybe we should all start building tents & build McCainvilles (like Hoovervilles) and just prepare ourselves to be homeless. McBush doesn't even understand the economy for crying out loud!

McCain does not FLIP FLOP when voting for the American Military – He always votes against them:

John McCain claims that his military service is one of his qualifications to be commander in chief. I seriously doubt his dedication to the American military. His voting record shows his lack of concern for our bravest men and women.

John McCain missed 10 of the past 14 votes on Iraq.

John McCain in September 2007: voted against the Webb amendment calling for adequate troop rest between deployments.

John McCain in July 2007: voted against a plan to drawdown troop levels in Iraq.

John McCain in March 2007 was too busy to vote on a bill that would require the start of a drawdown in troop levels within 120 days with a goal of withdrawing nearly all-combat troops within one year.

John McCain in February 2007 didn’t even bother to show up to vote against a resolution condemning it. For such a strong supporter of the escalation, McCain didn’t even bother to show up and vote for it.

John McCain in June 2006, voted against a resolution that Bush start withdrawing troops but with no timeline to do so.

John McCain in May 2006, voted against an amendment that would provide $20 million to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for health care facilities.

John McCain in April 2006, was one of only 13 Senators to vote against $430,000,000 for the Department of Veteran Affairs for Medical Services for outpatient care and treatment for veterans.

John McCain in March 2006, voted against increasing Veterans medical services funding by $1.5 billion in FY 2007 to be paid for by closing corporate tax loopholes.

John McCain in March 2004, once again voted for abusive tax loopholes over veterans when he voted against creating a reserve fund to allow for an increase in Veterans' medical care by $1.8 billion by eliminating abusive tax loopholes. Jeez, McCain really loves those tax loopholes for corporations, since he voted for them over our veterans' needs.

John McCain in October 2003, voted to table an amendment by Senator Dodd that called for an additional $322,000,000 for safety equipment for United States forces in Iraq and to reduce the amount provided for reconstruction in Iraq by $322,000,000.

John McCain in April 2003, urged other Senate members to table a vote (which never passed) to provide more than $1 billion for National Guard and Reserve equipment in Iraq related to a shortage of helmets, tents, bullet-proof inserts, and tactical vests.

If he believes that we should stay the course for as long as possible he should be willing to support the people he puts in harms way.

John McCain is not a friend of the American Military.

This is a question that needs to be asked to John McCain by a reporter that won't stand for a half-assed answer: `Do you support enacting a general draft for the Iraq War or any other future war?` ... if yes, gasp and watch McCain's poll numbers drop through the floor ... if no, ask the follow-up question: `How do you expect the military to continue at the current pace after so many of our troops have already exceeded any reasonable quota of extended tours of duty?` ... yes, its a loaded question, but one worth getting an answer to -- then wait for his response ...

I'm of draft age, and if anyone thinks i will risk/lay down my life for an illegal, prejudiced and warped war that was jump-started by lies and fuelled by avarice... they've got something else comin'. If it doesn't matter which candidate we vote for, then there's a serious problem here, don't you think? What amazes me is the fact that people are easy to write down comments in order to defend their opinion on 2.5 min videos posted online. But when it comes to walking down the street and showing their discontent... well, the street's empty. Is it a problem with our generation?
What is the point where people will realise that they are the only ones that should be making a difference? When will we realise that the government has taken too much control and the problem of freedom isn't so far abroad as Afghanistan, but right here, in the good ol' USofA? What is freedom? What is this concept we say we're fighting for? I believe that if those in Afghanistan are fighting as hard as they are, it means that they are fighting for an ideal that is important to them, as a people and as individuals. That is more than i can say for us. The US, being a country divided by opposing feelings about the "war," then we've already lost. I truly think that our eyes have been veiled and we need a serious awakening because there is no way i am about to believe that we are "free" to do as we like. Hell, we can't even walk about dogs on the beach without having them on a leash!! This might be a lame example, but honestly, is there even one square inch of the US land where there isn't a sign post giving us rules and telling us what to do?

And i would really appreciate if either Jace or someone else could show me proof, either video or (<strong>credible</strong>) article supporting the claim that Obama wants to reinstate the draft. I'm very sceptical about this claim.

In exchange for money, the politicians have agreed to let your kids be killed. For the last several years, many of them have been accepting money from American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), a supposed lobbying group that stands exposed as a spy operation for a foreign government, in order to promote that foreign government's agenda, which includes war in the Middle East, waged against that foreign government's enemies

"Against the insidious wiles of foreign influence (I conjure you to believe me, fellow-citizens) the jealousy of a free people ought to be constantly awake, since history and experience prove that foreign influence is one of the most baneful foes of republican government. … Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite [foreign nation] are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests." - George Washington, Farewell Address, 1796

Tracy__5 - Your relatives in the military who dislike the stop-loss policy but wouldn't "whine" about it are not being <em>supported</em> by citizens who do not advocate on their behalf. It is well-known those within the military ask for very little in return for their service, and will endure whatever hardships are thrust upon them with a minimum of resistance: They are the wheel that <em>stops itself </em>from squeaking but needs the grease <strong>most</strong>. It is therefore the responsibility of civilians to <strong>press</strong> the government for things like veteran's health care, <em>especially</em> with a volunteer army. Your attitude that support for the military means <strong>allowing</strong> whatever administration is in power to abuse them is nonsensical. Sometimes those in the military are constrained from publicly criticizing policies, which makes it the <strong>obligation</strong> of the citizenry to do so, both morally and in our own interests. You are advocating for an unhappy military suffering in obsequious silence, which is NOT "supporting the troops," but being complicit in their abuse.

According to the new New York Times/CBS News poll, only 16% of Americans think the government is telling the truth about 9/11 and the intelligence prior to the attacks:

"Do you think members of the Bush Administration are telling the truth, are mostly telling the truth but hiding something, or are they mostly lying?

Telling the truth 16%

Hiding something 53%

Mostly lying 28%

Not sure 3%"

Someone should tell the women that 911 was an inside job and that invading a country to get OBL is just plain stupid even if it wasn't.

This is McCain mentality.

<strong>Silly Neocons and thier silly false flag incidents and stupid Coporate wars</strong>.

It is the ignorant in this country like this ignorant fearful women that allow this to happen.

This is actually kind of making me laugh. I've wanted to join the AF and go into the pilot program for years but I can't because I'm deaf and now to read that he might try and bring a draft back just puts a smile on my face.

Jace....you bought those Neocon lies, hook, line and sinker! We don't NEED a draft...what we don't need, is about 4 wars going on at the same time. McCain doesn't want to talk, he wants to bomb, bomb, bomb...even made up a cute little song about it:) Actually, he didn't make it up, he ripped it off from the Beach Boys, but what else is new. You should be pleased when someone says they want to be diplomatic first...do you punish YOUR children BEFORE you know if they can understand why you're upset at them?? Hope not.

How old are you Daryll? They’ll draft up to 40. And why isn’t Meagan serving? The world could live without her blogging.

Hey, don't confuse Daryll the Shill. "40" is his IQ.

When your only solution is a hammer every problem looks like a nail.

If being tortured for 5+ years by the North Vietnamese qualifies McCain to be the next president then there are more than 250 current and former Gitmo detainees from Afganistan who are qualified to be the next Afgan president.

Obama supporters at this time must stop to consider a few things.
1. When things were going badly in Iraq before the surge it was the Democratic Congress who brought up reviving the Draft. Do not be so quick on the draw to think that Obama should he become President will not do so. He would have to because all of his talk about sitting down and talking things out with other countries is just talk. My biggest worry is that he will screw thing up so badly we will be under attack and unable to muster the troops fast enough to protect ourselves.
2. I am a parent with a daughter presently serving in Afghanistan and who has served in Iraq also. I think the draft would be a good idea kind of share the wealth with the rest of you as you are so fond of sharing things.
3. Vote for Obama and you can almost guarantee a return of the draft and if you think the death toll will not be high think again. Obama cannot and will not listen to the Military Commanders on the ground and that will make you expendable. Change a Change you can believe in Obama who's judgment is so lacking you to can have fun in the sandboxes of the world.
