Police drop plans for razor-wire holding cells at the Democratic convention.

Denver police have “have dropped plans to top the holding cells in place for use during next week’s Democratic convention with razor wire after some groups started comparing the site to the detention facility for suspected terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.” Instead, the cells will be topped with chain-link fencing. The ACLU has expressed concern about mass arrests of protestors, citing the 2004 GOP convention in New York City, “where some people were held for days at a converted bus depot.”

Welcome to America, the police state...

  2. ucsbclassics53 Says:

Gee, chain-link fencing! That's like light years on the road to achieving human rights in this country compared to razor wire...

    /sarcasm

  3. citizen_pain Says:

Maybe Ted Haggard, leader of a Colorado based "MEGA CHURCH", meth freak and homosexaul prostitute extraordinaire, is trolling for the Republican convention

i can't say as i blame denver for wanting to be prepared to bedlam... all the righty talk of "recreate 68"...

  5. Above the Clouds Says:

How many Republicans are planning to protest the Democratic convention in Denver? There must be literally dozens of pro-war, pro-tax cuts to the rich, pro-Bush Republicans out there who want their voices heard.

  6. Crusty Old Bastard Says:

Don't worry about any Republicans starting a riot. They will just pay some Iranian or Saudi to shoot you in the back as all chuckenshits do.

  7. dbadass Says:

shit and I was hoping to sit in a cage with razor-wire for a little while being treated poorly before signing a confessional.

Or the 'Pubs will just hire illegal immigrants to stand there with signs, and pay them substandard wages for the privilege.

    PEACE

Let us not forget... that bloated sack of porcine offal from hell Limbaugh was exhorting his mindless followers earlier this yr to go to Denver and deliberately cause a scene...

Say... isn't that against the law? Naaaaah... couldn't be... I mean, no one ever investigated...

  10. mark_scism Says:

You know, I've really been wondering why they would be worried about protesters in Denver when Republicans are the ones whose policies everyone hates.

My inner paranoiac wonders if much of the arrests won't be some type of staged action to make the Democrat party look bad. Of course, my reasonable side knows the Democrats make themselves look bad enough by enabling the Bush administration to continue its god-awful policies

Accurate description but doesn't it ruin your appetite?

    Hi Zed Lefflin:
What was that stuff you were saying before about chickens? I didn't really get what you ment,

  13. Iolair Says:

Agent-Provacateurs will to their best to see that these holding cells are kept full 24-7.

It might be wise for Democratic supporters to stage media events well away from the designated compound. Perhaps a single person on every street corner standing on an actual wooden crate/soapbox, instead of a rally which would require permits?

So you were planning on protesting the DNC convention?

How many more of you does Rush say it'll take to "Recreate 68"?

    Zed Lefflin Says:

I don’t think the cages will be needed in Denver this year most stoners are pretty mellow. If Obama keeps dropping in the poles like Bill Clinton’s speedos the need for therapists will be the order of the day.
    ------------------
True, but it won't be the stoners protesting the Democrats.

It will be the Paultards, and Randy Weaver wanna-be's.

    Not the Democrats.

Then they won't need razor wire...a good supply of oxycontin will do.

Few if any. Most will be at work and don't have time to waste their time.

  18. pete Says:

I don't understand this warped belief that the failure of a couple oil companies would doom us to an egalitarian Hell. Oil companies, big and small, fail all the time and someone else just takes over their business. And I don't think most patriotic Americans would consider exercising their right to free speech to be a waste of time.

Our trolls just get more delusional, and desperate, with each passing day.

  19. traps247 Says:

Then who the hell is going to go to the RNP? O wait - knowbody significant.

  20. piltdown Says:

…the gist was no oil no food……..so it is in our best interest….AT THIS TIME…..that Exxon, Chevron remain vibrant profitable company’s to keep the fuel flowing OR we will be forced to raise our own food any way we can…
    -----------------

So we're being held hostage? And it's "in our best interests" to capitulate to them?

That's the end goal of enfettered capitalism. Companies WILL get enough power to be able to withhold food, water and security from citizens in order to control them.

That's called extortion, and it should be punished.

And oh God, America having to grow it's own food? Stop relying on imports?

    Yeah, that'd be just horrible.

An anti-Obama film will be shown on the 16th Street Mall on Sunday afternoon, the eve of the opening of the DNC.

The full-length film is called "Hype: The Obama Effect." It's produced by a national conservative group called Citizens United.
Colorado GOP chairman Dick Wadhams will co-host the movie premiere and local McCain supporters are expected to attend the 3 p.m. event at the Denver Pavilions.

  22. jkd7854 Says:

Where does it say in the Constitution that Freedom of Speech and Assembly and the right to redress your government for grievances is guaranteed ONLY when one is enclosed or incarcerated in a barbed wire cage???

I can't find that part. Will someone please tell me where and when the Constitution was amended?

  23. piltdown Says:

    GiGi, you doof.

Just how many Democrats do you think will be protesting the Democratic convention?

Those cages are for the uneducated GOPers.

  26. dareme Says:

I wonder if Michael Moore will be there with a camera crew to catch it all on film

Gigi I dont know but I do know Amy Goodman will be there with cameras.
And yes there will be liberals there demonstrating. I know one group in particular has called for people around the country to be there to make an anti-war statement. The dems have supported this war too.

  27. ThomasMc Says:

The DNC could put an end to all this nonsense if they wanted to, but they are just as in love with the idea of a police state as the GOP.

It would be really bad to be held in a chain link cage. The intelligent (and American) thing to do would be to protest within the law rather than trying to force others to heed one's protest by hindering their ability to go about their business. You don't get put in a cage, you get to protest as the law allows and others are free to listen to you or not as most Americans prefer.
