So sad. I had the pleasure of playing for a private party she threw several years ago, when I was living in Cleveland, and she was as gracious a host to us lowly jazz musicians, as she was to her guests. A really nice person and a good progressive.

Yes, I did.

Going back to Buckie…Only fourteen states (plus the D of C) have elected women of color to Congress. I was taking to task how odd it was to label another state as “regressed” for making strides while failing to review the history as a whole. States with much greater percentages than Ohio have yet to reach as high – DE, NJ, SC, TN, LA, MS, et al.

Admittedly, in my ineloquence, I failed in attempting to make that point earlier. Mea Culpa.

I am calling you out on this one, Buckie Boy. It’s just too easy to Google your lame assertion into thin air. By your standard, a state that has not elected a women of color to Congress any sooner is “regressed”, making Maryland’s Donna Edwards (who was elected this year!) a representative of Neadrathals?

Or how about your precious Washington State? Not one woman of color from Washington State has EVER been elected to serve in our nation’s capital – not Senate or House. What are you, then?(Check out this link for details on the history of states representatives.)

Before you claim to be comparing apples to apples, realize that Ohio has about three times the percentage of black residents as Washington State. Just saying.

Rep. Tubbs Jones In Critical Condition

UPDATE 2:40 PM: The Cleveland Plain-Dealer, which had also reported that Tubbs Jones had died, now says she is in critical condition and that “reports shortly after noon had reported her death, but those were denied at a 2:30 p.m. news conference.” The Associated Press reported minutes ago that Tubbs Jones had died, according to a Democratic official, and then retracted that report. Capitol Briefing sincerely apologizes for the confusion and will continue to update.

There will be a prayer vigil for Tubbs Jones at 5 p.m. EST in the Cannon Caucus Room on Capitol Hill, according to her office.

Dennis Kucinich is a rep here and she was too. She replaced Louis Stokes, also African American, who held his seat for 30 years.

This is sad news for Ohio and for our country. It’s particularly tragic that it happened to someone with such a great sense of humor. My prayers are with Judge Tubbs and her family.
