Recent press reports have hinted that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is strongly considering selecting Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) as vice president. However, on Fox News last night, both Sean Hannity and Karl Rove weren’t keen on the idea, arguing that “there are other ways” to be bipartisan. Hannity and Rove instead suggested Lieberman as Secretary of State:
HANNITY: I was going to say, could we achieve that by, maybe, when he announces his VP, say, look, Joe Lieberman has agreed to be my secretary of state?
ROVE: Well, there’s going to be a brilliant column in the Thursday “Wall Street Journal” that’s strongly commentated but.
HANNITY: Are you suggesting that?
ROVE: Well, look, I think that that’s where the imperatives for McCain at the convention is. Each side needs to achieve something at the convention. And one of the things that McCain needs to do is to…you know, make it clear he remains who he is — a maverick with an independent streak who’s got to govern by — in a bipartisan fashion as president as he’s operated in himself.
Watch it:
In January, McCain said, “I would definitely want Joe Lieberman to play a part — particularly in national security issues — in my administration.”
I hope the people of Connecticut are happy.
August 20th, 2008 at 10:18 amUpdateThe AP reports that “a Republican official” says “Lieberman will be speaking at the Republican National Convention.”
The final nail in the Senate’s “Democractic Majority” coffin.
August 20th, 2008 at 10:20 amSomeone has to hold Al Gore responsible for adding this moron to the ticket in 2000.
What role did he play in the defeat? Did he undermine the election efforts in any way?
Not blaming, there are legitimate issues. Sometimes we can only understand the present by more-fully understanding the past.
How did this lying scumbag get the #2 spot on the ticket?
August 20th, 2008 at 10:21 amHe can lead the annexation of Israel, our 51st state.
The U.S. military will soon have soldiers operating a missile defense system inside the Jewish State. (The Jerusalem Post reported on this historic development last week.)
August 20th, 2008 at 10:22 amI think the AP said it best:
For his part, Republican rival John McCain is seriously considering naming his running mate between the end of the Democratic convention Aug. 28 and the Sept. 1 start of the GOP convention in hopes of stunting any uptick in polls for Obama. McCain has at least three large rallies planned in top battlegrounds Ohio, Pennsylvania and Michigan, before the Republican gathering in St. Paul, Minn.
His top contenders are said to include Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. Less traditional choices mentioned include former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge, an abortion-rights supporter, and Connecticut Sen. Joe Lieberman, the Democratic vice presidential prick in 2000 who now is an independent.

August 20th, 2008 at 10:29 amIn the unlikely event McSame could win the presidency, and the Dems hold or expand their majority in the Senate, would the Dems confirm Joe as SofS? What if the Dems had 59 seats without Joe and could get a Dem to replace the Lierberman? What a conundrum.

I suspect that in Jan he will be kicked off of all committees by the Democrats. Especially if he speaks at the Republinut Convention. Zell Miller part deux.
August 20th, 2008 at 10:43 amHannity and Rove instead suggested Lieberman as Secretary of State.
With Lieberman as Secretary of State, it’s time to dig up some of those old bomb shelter plans from the fifties.

August 20th, 2008 at 10:44 amThe only person worse for SoS than Condi Rice would be Joe Lieberman. Just another foreign policy disaster.
August 20th, 2008 at 10:46 amHouse of Roberts, apparently the distinction is temporary vs. permanent. Also, the new system will grant Israel a link to America’s military satellite system.
U.S. Soldiers to be Permanently Stationed in Israel for First Time
American soldiers will be permanently stationed in Israel to operate the X-band radar system: a system of high-powered early-warning missile radars. The X-band is specifically aimed at protecting Israel from an Iranian missile attack and represents the first permanent deployment of foreign troops in Israel. The arrangement was revealed by the authoritative publication, Jane’s Defense News and has been confirmed by both American and Israeli officials. The X-band system will extend the range of the present system from one-half mile to 1,250 miles. The system gives Israel a link to the entire American satellite system, adding critical minutes to warnings of incoming missiles.

Lie-man gives them a 1 vote majority in the Senate, not that it is a real majority as Lie-man consistently votes the Republinut party line.

Take your bigotry somewhere else, troll. Its one thing to criticize the nexus of Israeli-U.S. foreign policy and the BFF status of our two countries. It’s quite another to extrapolate that to a “jewish thing.”

Is there a more hilarious or disreputable claim than She-Yawn Insanity and Turd Blossom prattling on about “bi-partisanship” ?
What a pair of putzes………
August 20th, 2008 at 11:26 amThat’s cute that GIgi thinks a Lieberman-Republican alliance represents anything close to “bipartisanship”.
It’s cute that Gigi still think Lieberman is anything close to the same guy who ran for Vice-President as Democrat in 2000.
(Well, to be fair, Holy Joe was a sanctimonious scold then, and he’s a sanctimonious scold now, so he hasn’t flip-flopped on that.)

Yeah, there must be a way to pretend to be “bipartisan” without actually dealing with, y’know… Democrats. Or even people who pretend to have been Democrats once.
August 20th, 2008 at 11:30 amYeah, their idea of bipartisanship is to form a coalition of fascist imperialists and apocalyptic religions fanatics.

Just what qualifications does McCain’s Brown Nose Joe have to be named Secretary of State. What State? The US or Israel?
August 20th, 2008 at 11:44 amI have decided that I am TOTALLY with mike malloy. If Obama wins, the Dems will take the fall for the nightmare that has been set up by the Repugs. August 20th, 2008 at 12:13 pmUnderstandable, but keep in mind that even four years of McCain would almost certainly tip the Supreme Court headlong into the pit right-wing judicial activism under the iron grip of Scalia and Roberts.
Not worth it.

I agree with you for once g_g. The Clinton Administration had quite a few Republicans in the cabinet and even allowed consevatives to be hired in every branch of government (even the Judicial if you can believe that). Your Dear Leader George Bush saw to it with extreme prejudice that EVERY dept and branch of government not only be purged of Democrats but that even Republican applicants needed to be “the right kind” of Republicans. Yet you still blindly support and defend this Administration and are somehow deluded into thinking that by having a one token Independent (in name only) would be a bi-partisan effort by the Ol’ Maverick. You’re so silly g_g.

August 20th, 2008 at 12:26 pmscytherius at 11:47 am
Things ARE already bad enough not to need four years of McSame to make that point. If that is what Malloy believes, his screws need tightening. By the sound of some of his promos, they do anyway. I prefer the rational dignity of the Thom Hartmanns and Rachel Maddows to get the message across.
August 20th, 2008 at 12:31 pmAgree. I can’t listen to Malloy for more than a few minutes at a time. He’s not much better than a left-wing Limbaugh, in my opinion. Thom and Rachel are the class of the bunch, without a doubt. (Although I have a huge crush on Stephanie Miller and would listen to her before anyone else.)
August 20th, 2008 at 12:40 pmralph the wonder llama at 12:40 pm
Stephanie Miller looks good, but I’m not going to miss being up early enough to have to choose between Miller on Nova and Lionel on Air Am when I start back to work on my night shifts. Miller’s crew seems to try to be too much like the Howard Stern Show sometimes. I get up at 11:00 (central) just to turn on Hartmann. If I miss the later part of his show, I get off work at 3AM and catch the rerun on Air Am til 5. I get a bit of Randi Rhodes before leaving for work, and the rest I only hear on the “Best Of” segments on the weekend.
