Limbaugh: Everyone’s afraid to ‘criticize the little black man-child.’

Continuing his race-based attacks from the day before, Rush Limbaugh declared yesterday that Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) success so far is because people “can’t criticize the little black man-child:”

LIMBAUGH: It’s — you know, it’s just — it’s just we can’t hit the girl. I don’t care how far feminism’s saying, you can’t hit the girl, and you can’t — you can’t criticize the little black man-child. You just can’t do it, ’cause it’s just not right. It’s not fair. He’s such a victim.

Limbaugh has made racist attacks on Obama his forte. In March, he declared Obama had “disowned his white half” and “decided he’s got to go all in on the black side.” Last year, he called Obama “Barack the Magic Negro.”

Digg It!

ummm… Rush is projecting. Just because his listeners lack the depth to understand any criticism deeper than ‘N-WORD SECRET MUSLIM’, doesn’t mean that we have to lower the bar.

‘little black man-child’…. what the hell does that even mean?

  5. Zivnuska says:

This is very discouraging for this country. Not Limbaugh, he is a buffoon. What’s awful is that in 2008, this race baiting appeal is an effective tactic that is largely unchallenged in public discourse. Combined with the acceptance of torture, these are dark days. The election is really a contest for the soul of the country.

I can’t help but chuckle at Mr. OxyContin and his merry band of dittoheads. I sense a bit of desparation (and envy) in his attacks.

If race is fair game, then the discussion of dangerous and unpredictable behaviour, poor memory and overall unstable conduct by the presumptive Republican nominee is on the table. “Whether it is associated with PTSD or age-related, it is a sad affair. But can we risk his finger near the button?”

  35. stjack says:

i find it hilarious that the repugnicans are calling *Obama’s* candidacy a result of affirmative action. Isn’t that why McThuseleh is the republican candidate? Oh, you have to forgive him for saying x, he’s having a senior moment. Oh, he doesn’t speak for his own campaign, he can’t be expected to grasp all of these issues.

these are excuses for him, just as the repubs call affirmative action an excuse for minorities.

if you disagree, answer this question: if McCain were 25 years younger and made the same misstatements (think: shi’a versus sunni, iraq/afghanistan border, etc.), the same gaffes (hey, let’s renegotiate the incredibly sensitive water compact even though I’m the only person even talking about it), the same flip-flops (e.g., i oppose Bush’s tax cuts because they only confer benefits on the super-wealthy — no, wait, I *support* Bush’s tax cuts because everyone making less than $5 million a year is poor), the same sexist remarks (the gorilla joke and the names he’s called his own wife), the same unethical/immoral behavior (e.g., cheating and then lying about it in church), and the same disdain for honesty, forthrightness and truth (e.g., his greatest moral failing was the failure of his first marriage, which was neither moral nor really a failing, as opposed to the behavior that precipitated it), would he be the republican nominee?

Would the press have glossed over all this?

    THAT’s affirmative action.

  36. McWars says:

    Darryl

    – Grandma and grandpa forking out the cash for your substandard education is affirmative action.

    – Athletes who gain admission with full ride “scholarships” with lower GPAs A-OK, that is affirmative action.

    – Jocks and sorority types who gain entrance as a return for mom and pop writing checks to the development office, that is affirmative action.

For the purposes of writing this post and seeing into Darryl’s mind, affirmative action is defined as undue influence in advancement. The noble definition of affirmative action otherwise applies.

  37. bluefish says:

Why does Daryll only use his “good” material on posts that feature things like Republican bathroom stall toe-tapping? If he’s not careful, he’s going to be typecast as a single issue troll.

On topic, Rush is really too stupid for words. If that’s why Obama has made it so far, perhaps he can explain to us why Jesse Jackson or even Al Sharpton couldn’t get the nom. Obviously we must have been afraid to criticize them too.

  38. Another Joe says:

I personally try to not support any of limpball’s advertisers nor any of the rest of the corpocracy that underwrites the “mighty wurlitzer” and MSM “echo chamber”.

It sometimes feels like a futile thing to do because global corporations do not give a damn about whether any one of us supports them.

Of course, a nation-wide, coordinated boycott would change all of this very quickly. No social change happens without people getting organized and make at least modest sacrifices – peaceful action.

I have been told (and flamed) for even wondering why netroots and superblogs don’t decide to be more than information sources and places to vent.

Until we decide to do more, it’s just another version of atrio’s “101st Keyboarding Brigade”.

Will anyone recognize and accept that unorganized peaceful action and economic boycotts are difficult/impossible to maintain without someone taking the lead?

Does anyone else ever wonder if the things they do not to support Rush’s advertisers is not significant without a national effort?

  48. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

Yesterday Limpballs went off the rails on Rachel Maddow. Apparently he’s so green eyed with envy that he had to take a shot at Maddow:

Although he didn’t end up with the Worst Person award last night (that spot reserved for Bill O’Reilly), Keith Olbermann put Rush Limbaugh in the “Worser” nod on Countdown last night for the radio host’s comment about the hiring of Rachel Maddow.

According to the segment, Limbaugh described Maddow as, “A failed left wing radio talk show host with no proven experience in garnering any audience at all, who has more testosterone.”

The quote actually continues, and seems to be made in the context of “our buddy,” Dan Abrams. “He’s losing his show to somebody with more testosterone than he has,” says Limbaugh. “It’s just a shame.”

What’s the matter Limpballs, are you jealous.

One thing I would love to see before I die. I would love to see a debate between Rachel and Limpballs. She would have him crying and whining within five minutes. She would wipe him out quicker than $hit.

  79. ralph the wonder llama says:

Okay, let’s get past the ignorant racism that clouds the real stupidity of Rush’s remark. A radio talk show host sounding like a redneck is nothing new — it’s what he has to do to draw the kinds of listeners he has.

But check out what Rush is saying:

you can’t criticize the little black man-child. You just can’t do it, ’cause it’s just not right. It’s not fair. He’s such a victim.

He’s whining about not being able to criticize a presidential candidate.

Does he think Obama has not been criticized during this campaign?

I don’t know about Rush, but I’ve seen plenty of criticism. Most of it absurd, but plenty of it. So clearly, there is no prohibition on criticizing Obama.

So what is Rush getting at here?

This is clearly an expression of frustration. But frustration with what? It appears to me as if Rush is complaining that he can’t criticize Obama on the things he wants to use — namely, his race. And he can’t use that because society says it’s wrong.

That rankles him, you can tell.

He wants to call him the n-word. You know he wants to.

Rush is just like Col. Jessup in A Few Good Men. He wants to say it so bad, and he knows if he did, it would bring a shitstom down. But he still wants to.

And we know Rush has a real problem with reining in his desires. generally, when Rush wants to do something or say something, he’s gonna do it, and no one is gonna tell him he can’t.

So what about it, kids? Think we can get Rush to say the word he so badly wants to say? Anyone want to call in to Rush’s show and egg him on?

    Who’s up for it?

  80. McWars says:

They may be equivalent in rudeness and ingonrance, but until Roseanne has a forum that’s even comparable to Rush’s they’re hardly equivalent.

The Left has nutcases too, just like the Right. The difference is, people on the Right pay attention to their nutcases. They give them radio shows and TV shows, and they’re not bothered by their ignorance. They’re entertained by it.

  110. Innocent Bystander says:

The pressure of that $400MM contract is starting to get to Rush. Obviously, there are performance clauses, electing John McCain is #1. A McCain loss probably trips a renegotiating clause. Rush will then be forced to make do on $20MM/year. He’ll be forced to do fundraising, asking his audience rubes – like Daryll and TK v.13 to help finance his narcotics habit. In return, he’ll continue to feed them his sweet droppings of wisdom.

What a stretch. If you want real racism just google your democratic senate leader Robert Byrd. Byrd refered to blacks as mongrels, which is definately racist.

I think you are leaving out the contention that one may not criticize the “black man-child” part thus implying that it is unacceptable do to something. 141. TripleKick 13 says:

    Sorry Waynerd,
“man-child” is not the same as “boy”. It has a completely different meaning, and you’d know it unless your really stupid. Intonation and context is everything. I heard these comments live on the radio and the context was clearly with regards to Obama whining to the McCain campaign, demanding that he be called a patriot. Its hilarious actually. Obama’s a little man-child trying to act like a grown up, meanwhile McCain actually is a grown up who’s lived a much more robust life.

176 Sorry, I am trying to do my work at the same time as reading this. I think Limbaugh is referring to the way Obama has been treated by the press. For the longest time people hesitated to say anything negative about him for fear of being labeled a racist. Even Bill Clinton was accused of racism. “Little” suggests he is like a little boy in that he lacks the ability to take serious criticism. If youlisten to Limbaugh wioth any regularity I don’t believe you can call him a racist with any credability.

    ___________________________________________________________

In the first place, it’s quite a stretch to compare remarks made by a man well over sixty years ago (especially since Byrd has repudiated them) to inflammatory remarks made by a blowhard talk show host just yesterday.

And second — Obama didn’t win the primaries over a field of eight candidates merely because he is biracial. Do you honestly believe that Democrats went into the voting booth and were afraid to vote for any other candidate because there was a black man on the ballot? Geez — if that was the case, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton would have easily won the Democratic nomination when they ran.

Obama has more political experience than Dubya had when he ran for president. Also more experience than Ronald Reagan had. And Jimmy Carter. And Dwight Eisenhower. And Abraham Lincoln. We know he’s qualified. Why do you think he isn’t?

Why do people keep referring to this place as a cesspool of hatred? We can’t have different opinions? Isn’t that what America is about?
    _______________________________________________________

Of course we can have different opinions. And I welcome opinions presented in a thoughtful, intelligent manner. But when people merely cut and paste RNC talking points, post irrelevant points that have been thoroughly debunked, set up off-topic straw men, or they are here to disrupt the thread, I don’t welcome that.

We do have conservatives who post their opinions here, showing as much respect for others as they expect to receive in return. Keltoi – a fairly regular poster here – is a fairly good example of this. And then there are trolls. We know the difference.

  177. ucsbclassics53 says:

I’m sorry cragmoore, but his comments lead me to suggest otherwise…

or perhaps he was parodying racial stereotypes when he told the black caller to “get the bone out of your nose…”

or when he was using the race card constantly when it came to Donovan McNabb…

    yeah right…

  178. cragmoore says:

Mr. ucsbclasics53, I can’t comment on the bone in your nose remark as this is the first I’ve heard of it. As far as Mr. McNabb goes his comments were taken WAY out of context. As I am certain you have heard but choose not to accept, he was making a statement on how the general media rooted for Mr. McNabb when he (Rush) did not think his talent (McNabb) warranted it.

Seriously, what is a concern troll?

  179. ucsbclassics53 says:

Well I think that he was playing the affirmative action card when he was talking about McNabb and seemed to imply that the media wanted to prop him up because he was not good enough…189. Let’s agree to disagree on this one…

A concern troll is according to urban dictionary

A person who posts on a blog thread, in the guise of “concern,” to disrupt dialogue or undermine morale by pointing out that posters and/or the site may be getting themselves in trouble, usually with an authority or power. They point out problems that don’t really exist. The intent is to derail, stifle, control, the dialogue. It is viewed as insincere and condescending.

A concern troll on a progressive blog might write, “I don’t think it’s wise to say things like that because you might get in trouble with the government.” Or, “This controversy is making your side look disorganized.”

Perhaps other examples are when Rush called Mayor Villaraigosa a “shoe-shine” boy…

Limbaugh: I want to know. I look at Iowa, I look at Illinois—I want to see the murders. I want to see the looting. I want to see all the stuff that happened in New Orleans. I see devastation in Iowa and Illinois that dwarfs what happened in New Orleans. I see people working together. I see people trying to save their property…I don’t see a bunch of people running around waving guns at helicopters, I don’t see a bunch of people running shooting cops. I don’t see a bunch of people raping people on the street. I don’t see a bunch of people doing everything they can…whining and moaning—where’s FEMA, where’s BUSH. I see the heartland of America. When I look at Iowa and when I look at Illinois, I see the backbone of America.

    From Wikiquotes
    :
The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies.

Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?

I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark.

    * Hugo, Cesar — whatever. A Chavez is a Chavez. We’ve always had problems with them.
    o (26 March 2004)

I mean, why didn’t these morons leave New Orleans before the hurricane? I’ll tell you why: because they wanted to rape and loot! That’s just the way some people are! And if they’re black — if the rapists and looters are black — it’s not George Bush’s fault! We’ve had these problems ever since the Emancipation Proclamation. Once the whites leave town, all you’ve got is overwhelming lawlessness. That’s not racism, Mr. Snerdley; it’s a proven, demonstrable fact. Have you even seen a ghetto in Greenwich, Connecticut? I rest my case.

They oughtta change Black History Month to Black Progress Month and start measuring it.

    misshusseinmolly:

So what is your stance on the fairness doctrine?
    __________________________________________________________

To be perfectly honest, some of the current shock talkers cause me to have such a visceral reaction that I’m tempted to support it purely on an emotional level. After all, I DO believe in fairness, and I have a real problem with people like Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage, et al, being able to say the hateful and inflammatory things they do with the full blessing of their corporate bosses and sponsors, while voices on the other side cannot be heard because they don’t have a big a bullhorn.

However, what I like least about the Fairness Doctrine is that it would create in our media the idea that there are only two positions on everything. Everybody would be pigeonholed into a box labeled either “left” or “right”. Every subject would have two contributors — one from Box “L” and one from Box “R”. Is this really how we want to think? Is this how we want to educate our children? That there are no points of view except two? Or worse — that everybody in the same box thinks exactly alike? That Ron Paul and Ann Coulter march in lockstep? No — this isn’t what I want from our media.

On the other hand, we currently have a situation with fewer and fewer players — each of whom are getting bigger and bigger pieces of the media pie. The corporate media giants have all but squeezed out smaller players, and most of them have a big business agenda and naturally want their mouthpieces to slant their way. Even shows not part of a large business conglomerate are sponsored by big business interests, and this will always favor conservatives sympathetic to them. This isn’t a good situation, either.

We need to find some way to create fairness in the media marketplace without mandating regimented and stifled speech. And it may require going back to the days when there was a limited amount of media any single person, company, or entity could own or control. That would be a start.

What a stretch. If you want real racism just google your democratic senate leader Robert Byrd. Byrd refered to blacks as mongrels, which is definately racist.

No triplemoron it is NOT a stretch you are just stupid and determined to appologize for anything this cretinous racist says. He lost his job Monday night football for being a racist he told a caller to take that bone out of his nose. He IS a racist you are just an idiot. As for Byrd he was in the KKK what 30 years ago has appologized publicly a dozen times when did Racist Rush appologize? That would be never.

The point Rush is making is that democrats don’t have the fortitude to challenge a black man, even when they know he’s not qualified. This is in no way racist, its simply an observation.

Rush wasnt MAKING a point he was tossing out a racist insult. Its plain STUPID to pretend we needed to ’stand up’ to someone running for president you vote for him or you dont. People listened to him and voted for him. My GOD you are stupid. It doesnt even make sense to claim there was any point there. He was being racist and tossing out red meat to his racist base. BY the way there is no number of times you can repeat something ignorant like it was no way racist that will magically make it be true. That is just you being very stupid

This is my first visit to a leftist blog site. I am amazed at the hatred you guys have for anyone who disagrees with you. I thought you supposed to be the party of tolerance. Those who disagree with you should be “beaten senseless and purged from the country”? That sounds a little over the top don’t you think?
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

YOUR side has Ann Coulter saying liberals should be beaten with baseball bats and deported. A sitting Supreme Court justice should be poisoned and you want to WHINE about what is said on a message board? Get a life. We understand that the rightwing is nostalgic for the days when they had the exclusive franchise on personal attacks and nastyness. Those days are gone us liberals are tired of being punching bags and we are fighting back. Until you try to riegn in YOUR side the only thing I can think when I see you trying to point out how bad WE are is why dont you go pour yourself a nice cup of STFU. You have no credibility. The rightwing OWNS hate and vitriol. The fact the left is fighting back is a good thing and I couldnt care LESS if you like it.

Rush for the most part is probably right. He often goes over the line to make his point (which is why I listen to him rarely) but none the less, his points are at least something to think about.

No he DOESNT have a point he has a racist insult you really ought to learn to tell the difference.

Obama is the most unqualified candidate running for office for as long as I can remember.

Really? He has more experience than Abraham Lincoln had. He turned out to be a pretty good president. The elder Bush had TONS of experience and he sucked. There is no reason to go through your rerun of the Rush Limbaugh show. If you ever had an original thought you would mistake it for an aneurism. Try doing something OTHER than tuning into rightwing Hateradio and reading rightwing liEMails to do your thinking FOR you. Most of the rest of what you posted was pure ignorance its ludicrous to even CLAIM he doesnt answer questions or doesnt really have positions. Either you are just to stupid to understand the written word or you believe that because you were INSTRUCTED to believe it. No other option is available since he CLEARLY asnwers questions just with the nuance appropriate to complex policies and that might be a bit over the head of Manichean black/white thinking morons.

Wayne – “There is not much to the left about his senate voting record. Especially his vote for the FISA bill with telco immunity.”

Your not talking about his extensive voting record are you? In all his years of representing this country???

Regardless of whether Rush’s statements were racist or not, can’t you agree that sometimes his point is worth thinking about? Or are you that close minded? Do you share the same opinions of John Stewart?

This post was ignorant. He represented his STATE for several years before he came into the Senate and sharing an opinion is one thing just repeating the most ignorant things imaginable because you cant think for yourself is another saying Obama is as left is you can get is pure stupidity. Only a brainwashed moron repeating what he was TOLD to believe could say something so inane. Every hear of Noam Chomsky? You DID know there is a SOCIALIST in the Senate dont you? Obama is no where NEAR as left as a Kucinich a Fiengold or really a Boxer much less Sanders. You are spewing the ignorance you have been TOLD to believe and its more than stupid. So NO I dont have to respect opinions that no one in their right mind could take seriously and that you only REPEAT because you allow others to do your thinking for you

There have been plenty of Left talk show host that spew out garbage (like Savage and Rush do occasionally).

NOT. Left talk doesn’t need to LIE.

The problem is, no one really wants to hear them. If they did, they would still be on the air.

they’re ALL still on the air… and getting stronger everyday…
except al franken, who’s kinda busy these days, working on cleaning up the mess…

The only reason conservative talk radio is still on the air is because of its large committed audience that listens because they can’t get the news anywhere else… and of course the sponsors.

NOT. it’s called media ownership deregulation… thanks to reagan AND bill clinton… which guarentees an oversaturation of fright-wing hate radio stations and their corporate sponsors, of course… that audience doesn’t have much choice…

I charge you to listen to the sponsors that advertise on conservative talk show radio… I think you maybe surprised in who is actually advertising on those stations.

    probably not:
can you imagine? an AAR blackout list

    199. Obama’s move to the right, no make that a lurch to the right has disappointed many of us. Nonetheless, it seems that the Democrats cannot get rid of the mindset that they have to pander to the right to win elections…

I know that people on the right like to paint Democrats as EXTREME FAR-LEFT but if you look at any other country, they would be right-of-center. Obama isn’t doing himself any favors by alienating his base.

  189. ucsbclassics53 says:

If you look at the ratings of many liberal groups, you’ll see that he is more towards the middle and that there are many other senators ahead of him. It’s only the hysterical National Journal’s flawed ratings which it criticized itself that make him the #1 liberal in the Senate, which is funny. Every time a general election comes, the journal seems to rank the Democratic nominee the #1 liberal…

Are those scare tactics? After all, we know being a liberal is one step away from being Satan…

  190. Robt says:

Can someone here at Think Progress ask Rush if he is now carrying water for the republicans?

Remember in ‘06 right after the Democratic thumping, (taking majority control of Congres).

Rush Limbaugh stated on his radio (comedy) show, “that I am tired of carrying water for these republicans” , “I am not going to carry water for them any more”.

Will the water boy confess ? Is he ashamed to support David Vitter, Larry Craig and the likes? Why isn’t rush seem with these guys?

  191. EugeneDebs says:

    nothingontv2 Says:

So you are telling me, I should just ignore everything I hear if one part doesn’t fall in line with one of my beliefs?

That is a non sequitur. What I am tellin you is you should learn to read or stop wasting our time. He didnt make a point he made a racist insult. There was no point attached. Basically calling him a boy and spouting some idiocy about not standng up to him isnt a point and only an idiot would keep claiming it was.

So please tell me, specifically what is Obama going to Change? What policies is he going to bring to the White House? I really want to know. What are we hoping for? He takes 2 positions on almost every position, Gay Marriage, Aborton, etc… The only thing I have heard him take a stance on is the war and taxes. Can you tell me what else he is going to do? I’d like to know.

Why should I waste my time. He has clearly talked about what he will do. YOU claim he keeps taking two postions. That is patent nonsense. How are you claiming both no one is farther left AND he is taking both sides of issues. You do understand those two postions are mutually exclusive dont you. Your problem is either that the hivemind hasnt TOLD you what his positions are or you are so stuck in that Manichean, black white thinking that you simply arent bright enough to understand that not every policy position is best described by stupid bumper sticker slogans. If you arent bright enough to understand nuance think everything in the world belongs in either the black box or the white box just vote for My Senator he isnt very bright and he will dumb everything down so you can take a stab at understanding it.

BTW- you sound real tolerant. You are not helping the people you support.

I dont care. I am tired of listening to reruns of the Rush Limbaugh show and dont try to convince me you would ever vote for Obama anyway. I know a troll when I read one.

“Until you try to riegn in YOUR side the only thing I can think when I see you trying to point out how bad WE are is why dont you go pour yourself a nice cup of STFU”

I am simply trying to have a conversation and you talk like this? You are worse than Rush.

No you werent. You come in and give us the hivemind talking points about Obama no matter how utterly stupid they are. We have heard them. Talk to us dont set that sump you have instead of a brain on record and tell us what Hannity or the Oxymoron or the Weinerdog Savage told you to think that ISNT a conversation.

Just so you know, I honestly have not heard more than five of Rush’s shows in my lifetime. I do listen to some conservative talk radio but I work at a newspaper, so I’d say I get my news pretty evenly.

You might SAY so but your stupid talking points are not only familiar they could not POSSIBLY be reached by ANY sort of higher brain function so I dont BELIEVE you get any even news. You are brainwashed that is as obvious as water being wet.

Just checking, anyone else here think that Obama isn’t pretty far LEFT?

Pretty far left is a subjective judgement he isnt as far left as me. Not anywhere NEAR as far left as Sanders, Feingold, Kucinich not even in the BALLPARK with Chomsky or Zinn and you didnt say pretty far left you said “Obama is as left as you can get ” That comment is plain nonsense. The only two ways to get to it are complete idiocy or repetition of some screechmonkey talking point.
