Last week Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told Politico that he did not know how many homes he and his wife Cindy own. “I’ll have my staff get to you,” McCain said. ThinkProgress noted that even though McCain’s comment highlights his poor record on the housing crisis and his economic policies that primarily benefit the rich, many in the media leaped to McCain’s defense, saying the gaffe was not “a big deal.”
Today on ABC’s This Week, Time Magazine’s Mark Halperin took the media’s McCain defense a step further, arguing that the fact that McCain doesn’t know how many houses he owns “is going to be one of the worst moments in the entire campaign” — not for McCain, but for Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL):
HALPERIN: My hunch is this is going to end up being one of the worst moments in the entire campaign for one of the candidates but it’s Barack Obama. [...] I believe that this opened the door to not just Tony Rezko in that ad, but to bring up Reverend Wright, to bring up his relationship with Bill Ayers.
To their credit, some of Halperin’s fellow panelists questioned his logic. “I’m having a little trouble following your argument,” host George Stephanopoulos said. Watch it:
It seems that the media all too often jump at the chance to defend McCain. Also last week, McCain agreed that the U.S. should reconstitute the military draft. Yet some in the media argued that McCain hadn’t actually agreed to this policy change (he did) and instead chose to give McCain “the benefit of the doubt.”
Moreover, many media figures recently argued that the Russia-Georgia conflict was good for McCain, despite the fact that many of his policy stances toward Russia would have pushed the U.S. closer to war during this particular crisis.
In fact, Halperin himself jumped in on this bandwagon, saying the Russia-Georgia conflict was great for McCain because it “allows him to talk tough on foreign policy.”
That’s *** Tough Talk™***, Halperin… can’t you get anything right? Sheesh…
August 24th, 2008 at 12:33 pmThat’s “poor” not “pour.”
August 24th, 2008 at 12:35 pmI understand that political talk shows will feature a variety of opinions. They NEED to feature a variety of opinions. A variety of opinions are crucial to the vitality of the discussions that give these shows life.
But shouldn’t those opinions at least be grounded in some objective reality???
August 24th, 2008 at 12:36 pmOf course, Halperin… someone that says he “checks Drudge 12 times a day” and maintains a Conservative blog, isn’t exactly the best pundit to ask about such things.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:39 pmI don’t understand how McCain making a verbal gaffe opens up Obama to criticism. It’s not as if there are any rules in this game. If there were somebody already would have called McCain on some of the most vapid advertising a campaign has ever seen.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:39 pm“I believe that this opened the door to not just Tony Rezko in that ad, but to bring up Reverend Wright, to bring up his relationship with Bill Ayers.”
_____
Oh, NOW the door’s open? You mean the repundits weren’t going to utter a peep about Reverend Wrightgate and Bill Ayersgate and Tony Rezkogate and Arugulagate from now until November, but now that Obama has brought up Housegate the floodgates are open?
Yeah, that makes sense.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:43 pm“I’m having a little trouble following your argument,”
*****Why a surprise ?We won’t have Repukes if they had the ability to go from A to B logically.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:46 pmHalperin is really pimping himself hard these days as a new, slightly more stupid (and more gay) version of Matt Drudge. Pretty pathetic, but a good illustration of how the Repubs will never run out of eager sycophants to push their crap.
My guess is Richard Mellon Scaife must have one hell of a case of carpal-tunnel syndrome by now, from writing all those checks.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:46 pmIts just how the narrative works fletc3her. No matter how much the facts and logic argue against it, they go with it until they find something else as vacuous to use against Obama. In their minds Saint McInsane can do no wrong and will be forgiven “minor” gaffes.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:46 pmMr. Halperin Suggests that Sen. McCain’s house counting problem ….opened the door to not just Tony Rezko in that ad, but to bring up Reverend Wright, to bring up his relationship with Bill Ayers.
Give me a break! Rezko, Wright,& Ayers Would be featured Items in the Republican convention/Obama Bashfest, In ANY CASE.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:47 pmBadger at 12:47 pm
The lie Halperin was trying to sell was that the McSame campaign hadn’t already gone negative on Obama, but now all bets are off.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:51 pmWow.
Halperin really is a piece of work, isn’t he? Somehow, saying Obama was willing to lose a war to win a campaign didn’t “open the door to anything”, but pointing out that McCain doesn’t know how many homes he owns does “open the door to anything”.
It really is hopeless, isn’t it?
August 24th, 2008 at 12:53 pmMy guess is that, if McCain were videotaped selling his vote to Exxon, Halperin would say this would be a bad development for Obama, because it would show that he didn’t have enough experience to be worth buying him off.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:53 pmI understand that political talk shows will feature a variety of opinions. They NEED to feature a variety of opinions. A variety of opinions are crucial to the vitality of the discussions that give these shows life.
I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with you there. What I see as the problem is the very fact that they present (to the viewers) a variety of opinions as if they were equally valid! And they won’t attack each other’s opinions enough, because this is perceived as attacking the person (which is how the right wing does it), and they don’t want to seem rude to another guest. If they started doing that, the one making the idiotic point would quickly be exposed as being unqualified to be in the discussion, and then that reflects badly on the program that asked that guest to come on and express dubious opinions. So they have to keep perpetuating the myth that the people they have on their shows ought to be expressing their views in public.
The right wing’s view is not valid. Period! It is often based on an erroneous interpretation of the constitution, or a false belief about the principles on which this country was founded. For example, we were NOT founded as a “Christian Nation”. (We are a nation with a lot of Christians, but our country never had, and never will have, an official religion.) Yet this misperception is a fundamental point to many of their arguments. They also erroneously feel that the Executive Branch has more power than the Legislative Branch, most likely because they are authoritarians and need and desire someone to give them orders. They believe (again, incorrectly) that our nation’s military is the president’s to command and direct at his whim. They believe that he has total authority over the military, and that Congress cannot tell him what to do with them. This is, of course, totally incorrect. But it is also one of the foundations of their belief system. Lastly (for my point only, but there are other examples), the right wing guests on the talking heads shows often begin their beliefs with the idea that the invasion of Iraq was legal, necessary, and a good idea. It was, as we all should know by now, none of those things.
So, they let these right wing morons go on their shows and espouse their beliefs as if their beliefs were rooted in reality and were valid, and they never challenge them on it. They just let them speak as if it’s just a matter of two different people looking at the same facts and coming to different conclusions. It’s not, because they aren’t looking at the same set of facts.
What they (the talk shows) need to do, if they’re going to have these people on at all, is make them justify their views. Make them explain, all the way down to the beginning, that they thought everything Bush said about Iraq was true, and so everything he did was legal. Once the flaws in their thinking are exposed, then they should let them speak. And the viewers will know then that they don’t know what they’re talking about.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:56 pmSteer manure fertilizer marketed under any other name is still a big sack of….
Seriously, how much republican Kool-aid did this guy drink?
August 24th, 2008 at 12:57 pmIt’s amazing that these pundits are willing to risk their own credibility to try to rescue this sinking ship. Well amazing or stupid one. Time Magazine, good to remember how much that’s worth reading now.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:58 pm“Time, the weekly news magazine.” That’s what they called their publication back in the late 1960s when they lent their support to LBJ’s war on Vietnam. Time has always been a right-wing propaganda sheet, so i am not surprised that the twisted Mr. Halperin manages to twist the obvious into another right-wing pretzel. Don’t choke on it, sir… Are pretzels a good side dish for an order of boiled crow?
August 24th, 2008 at 12:58 pm“I’m having a little trouble following your argument,” host George Stephanopoulos said.
Well, George first you have to find a good heavy mallet. Next hit yourself in the head about 3 to 4 times, very hard.
Now you should be able to understand Halperin’s (lack of ) logic.
August 24th, 2008 at 12:58 pmIf the right made sense, any sense at all – would we really be here now?
August 24th, 2008 at 12:58 pmQ: How many houses does John McCain own?
August 24th, 2008 at 12:59 pmQ: Who wants to know?
A: John McCain.

Hugh… What?
I never read that to be president of the USA meant you HAD TO Be an elitist, George.

August 24th, 2008 at 1:00 pmOn one show this morning I also heard that it was dumb of Obama to bring up the house issue because Obama made $4 million last year and Biden’s house is expensive. Well we could always income average Obama for the last 10 years and then add up the totals of the the Obama/Biden houses and then the value and numbers of the McCain/Romney houses. But I’m sure Biden is just the guy to figure all this out.

August 24th, 2008 at 1:07 pmHalperin is using that “special logic” that republicans like to use.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:09 pmOh hell nawh! How old is halperin? 12? 11? Is he one of the columbine killers?
georgia-Russia is a good move because mcchimpy can “talk tough” the Russia? Good gawd, is this a way to pick a president?
NO lapdog halperin, the houses mcchimpy owns is HIS problem.
Open up the doors to Sen. Obama’s associates and believe me mcchimpy you’re involved or have direct contact with your crimes.
OPEN UP THE DOORS, DO IT, YOU DIRTY CROOKS WERE GOING TO DO IT ANYWAY!
mcchimpy is crooked every day.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:10 pmReally the Republicans picked Grampy McSame for the top of their ticket and now they’re worrying about the gaffes of others. How delusional can they be?

Well, if you ignore the fact that the RW slime machine has been flogging Rezko, Wright, and Ayers for months before McSame made his stoopid comment….
What a totally bone-headed thing for Halperin to say. Is he really that dumb or does he think we are?
Cheers,
August 24th, 2008 at 1:13 pmWayne, i didn’t mean to imply that all opinions are equally valid. And I agree that so much that passes for right-wing punditry these days is just ridiculous.
I think that’s a consequence of the free pass that right-wing opinions get in the media these days, but I don’t buy the argument that all right-wing thought is worthless, anymore than I believe that all left-wing thought is sound.
I think the great tragedy of our current corporate-owned media landscape is that we no longer have a mainstream dialogue between right and left. I’ve often said that the Right serves a key purpose in our society — as a check on liberal excess. But it is very poorly suited as a majority or controlling party, as we’ve seen over the past eight years.
Still, from a programming standpoint, conflict equals drama and drama equals viewership. So differing viewpoints are critical for a TV talk show.
I just wish the viewpoints had to meet a threshold of reason, logic and reality before they were included in the discussion.

At least Sens. Obama and Biden bought their homes and didn’t mooch off their wives’ income to purchase a house.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:21 pmI think Mr. Halperin has some trollopyc*nt envy goin on.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:28 pmHalperin, he risks making a complete a$$ of himself as he carries water for the repugs.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:28 pmHis argument this morning was a real LOL.
I read your work all the time but have just created an account to comment on this statement,I see clearly how the media portrays McCain and when McCain attacks Obama or as he is now attacking Biden the media shrugs it off and that kind of mud media is why the race has narrowed between the two candidates or that is the way I’m seeing it.
I also believe that Biden was a good choice for Obama,Biden has forgotten more about foreign policy than McCain will ever know, but these attack ads and the media bias will continue until the vote in November and I believe it will be an uphill battle until the election, like one commenter said in another article Obama should use all these McCain statements for his own ads.
I hope I’m not to much off topic but just had to say this about the bias media.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:31 pmI repeat from the Pawlenty thread, “Did the GOP throw their hands in the air and say, “What the hell, let’s try a bizzare sociological experiment this fall. What’s more to lose?””
August 24th, 2008 at 1:39 pmGreat comment Floyd. It’s quiet around here on Sunday but I’m sure many of us would agree you are definitely on topic and it’s good to know there are more people out there that see the light.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:46 pmI certainly hope everyone keeps on eye on their local media when McCain selects his VP. If you’re local news, ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliates, are anything like mine then you have gotten an earful of what the McCain camp thinks of Biden. Our local news even aired the McCain attack ad of Biden back to back with the story of Biden being the VP nominee. Personally I find this just disgusting, but I’m an old guy.
So when McCain makes his pick I expect all of these “Fair and Balanced” stations to go out of their way to play every sound-bite of what “some say…” concerning his VP nominee.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pmEver notice than repugs base their arguments on faith instead of facts? I guess that’s because faith is a belief in what they see as the truth whereas facts contradicts their belief how they see the truth.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:47 pmWell McWars, when you rig the Diebold machines and cage the voters it doesn’t really matter who your candidate is. And since the last smart Republican, Richard Nixon, had to leave office, all they have is stupic front men for the wizards behind the curtains.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:48 pmSrewBush, I saw one snippet of a debate today where Romney tells off McCain for interpreting what Romney had said inorrectly. I’m sure there’s plenty more of those since they didn’t get along.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:50 pmRalph the Great — I think the great tragedy of our current corporate-owned media landscape is that we no longer have a mainstream dialogue between right and left. I’ve often said that the Right serves a key purpose in our society — as a check on liberal excess. But it is very poorly suited as a majority or controlling party, as we’ve seen over the past eight years.
That is a phenomenal description, ralph. Conservatives expect to be ignored on whatever failures they cause, and throw a hissy fit whenever those failures are discussed. Conservatives believe themselves to be the checks-and-balances party not of the constitution, but of the librul party. Is the lib qualified? Is the lib experienced? Whose hands did the lib shake?
This has little to do with qualifications (whatever the hell that means). If elections weren’t held and if the hiring decision rested with the republican party, should one really believe they’d be willing to hire the democratic candidate. Of course not — they’re much too partisan and extreme to do such a thing.
What is the business of those who hate government to qualify those who believe serving in a working government advances the nation? It’s like like a pre-school entrant assigned to advise a Ph.D candidate.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:51 pmIt seems to me that the Rethugs opened the door to Rezko, Wright and Ayers a looong time ago.
Nothing new; won’t work this time.

Uhh…righties, the people who’ve accepted the explanation of those controversies have left the room. Why are you still sitting in an empty lecture hall?
Even beyond Obama’s candidacy, is this a “hate Illinois” thing, or what?
August 24th, 2008 at 1:59 pmOkay, I am going to try to figure out Halperin’s logic. Here goes.
If McCain seems to be attacking Obama first, and directly, and negatively, then the attack backfires on McCain. McCain knows this.
So McCain has to wait for Obama to give him an opportunity. We saw this when McCain jumped on Obama’s statement, “they will tell you I don’t look like the dollar bills” etc. McCain pounced: “How dare you call me a racist.” McCain’s strategy is: “Obama started it, now I can hit back in self defense.”
Now we are seeing it again. McCain should have said “Let me tell you about my houses. I have one in California, I love California…you know, I have fewer houses than John Kerry does, do you know that?” But McCain could not think that fast, and trying to avoid a gaffe, he said “We’ll get back to you.” Obama pounced on that, with the negative ad. Now McCain can say, “Obama has gone all negative, now I can defend myself honorably by throwing all this mud that’s sitting around, because Obama started this.” So here comes Rezko and Ayers and Wright because, you know, Obama started it.
So that’s how it makes sense….sort of.
August 24th, 2008 at 1:59 pmShayne, it was JulieAnnie who brought up the worth of the Obama/Biden houses (yes, you need to mention both of them together to get the plural of house) and he said, in essence, that both Barack and Joe have expensive homes, and what difference does it make if you have one million dollar home, or two, or whatever.
The apologists are out in full force!
But I’m wondering… will the FCC allow a loop of Rev. Wright saying “God Damn America”? I’m thinking not, but could be wrong.
PEACE
August 24th, 2008 at 2:01 pmRalph at 31 – you are a treasure. How I wish you were not such a rarity to be so precious, but you are indeed the best face of the American Left.

August 24th, 2008 at 2:10 pmOT, but did anyone else hear McStain with Couric this morning? He told us that “for five years [he] didn’t have a house, or a table, or a chair.”
Josh Marshall over at TPM has been making the point that he’s playing the POW card way too often, and I’m looking forward to Biden taking on the “POW get out of anything” card for Obama. If McStain really wants to travel back to ‘Nam, I think people may want to know why he really wanted to have his debriefing permanently sealed, and why he was personally responsible for calling off the search for any remaining MIA’s.
Fighter pilot? No, bomber.
PEACE
August 24th, 2008 at 2:11 pmHalperin’s ignorance matches his master’s. McCain is so far divorced from your reality, he even offered you $50/hr for lettuce picking, because he thinks you Americans wouldn’t lift a finger for this amount. He wouldn’t, that much is clear.
My impression is, McCain truly thinks $50/hr is small change, because he has been living in the rich man’s bubble far too long. McCain really doesn’t know how many houses he owns, because like luxury hotels these are just the places he can go to. And he never struggled to cough up the mortgage payments or he would remember. The world really rich people live in and their way of life and mentality have no common denominator with your world and your way of life and mentality.
Halperin echoes McCain, they both do not know a thing about you.

Cheers,
August 24th, 2008 at 2:16 pmI, for one, am happy to see that the pundits are sick of McCain using the POW card to escape from every question/argument/position etc.
When Kerry used his military service in 2004, he was pounced on it hard by the rightwing – from mockery to “we’ve heard it already.” In this case, however, the coporate owned media, loathe to apply heat to their candidate (who has nothing positive to offer) allowed this excuse to be played ad nauseum, so even now they are saying, “enough already.”
August 24th, 2008 at 2:17 pmWas he a POW too? Cuz there’s another guy out there making ridiculous statements and blaming it on being a POW. If he wasn’t in a bamboo box he needs to seek professional help. He’s off the rails like his candidate.
August 24th, 2008 at 2:27 pmTo quote Dirty Harry…
“Opinions are like a**holes…everyone’s got one”.
Halperin may have opinions, but that doesn’t mean the twat should be on national TV. He’s embarrassing. His “Matt Drudge rules our world” comment will be forever known in infamy.
Also shows you that a Harvard education don’t mean jack**** if you have no brain.
August 24th, 2008 at 2:30 pmHeard one of McStain’s talking heads on MSNBC yesterday saying that it was losing arguement that McStain voted with Bush 95% of the time because Obama voted with Bush 50% of the time.
Which only proves that even an idiot can flip a coin and get “heads” half of the time.

August 24th, 2008 at 3:12 pmThe thing that kills me about this attack is that McCain actually DID have an ad which depicted Obama’s face on a hundred dollar bill, before Obama made the statement for which he’s been attacked. It was a web-only ad, but I understand the image of Obama’s face lands (coincidentally or not) at the exact halfway point of the ad, which I’ve heard is the default frame displayed when the Youtube link is embedded in a page.
August 24th, 2008 at 3:12 pmPerhaps folks don’t know Halperin’s backstory. During the first Nixon term, Harperin’s dad was wiretapped, and the government found out all little Mark’s private details. Since that time, he has consistently espoused a rightist viewpoint. I’m thinking it was a variation of the Stochholm Syndrome that’s caused him to consistently support the party that wiretapped his family for political purposes.
August 24th, 2008 at 3:24 pm“McCain doesn’t Know how many Houses he owns”. This is the perfect Meme. Short…to the point…and devastating.

More than that, McCain is unsure of how many houses (or homes, if you don’t think of condos as “houses”) both he and his wife own (she was specifically mentioned in the question) during a time when many Americans face losing the only home they’ve ever owned thanks to policies championed by Phil Gramm, who was (and may still be) McCain’s chief economic advisor. The more perspective you apply, the worse it is for McCain.
August 24th, 2008 at 3:48 pmOther Obama mistakes:
When mcstake agreed that we need a draft
When bush agreed to timetables for withdrawal from Iraq
When mccake chowed down with bush while NOLA drowned
Why does Obama keep making these mistakes?
August 24th, 2008 at 3:48 pmMcCain can fall down the stairs and they’d be saying it shows his resiliance, whether or not he gets up afterwards. Then somehow it would show Obama’s weakness since he hadn’t gotten back up after falling.
John’s got such leadership and experience that he’ll have to pick a Vietnam Vet VP that wasn’t captured by the enemy to bring ‘balance to the ticket’. Every time they play the POW card it reminds me that he had at least one mission that was an utter failure. There are a lot of Vets out there that didn’t surrender to the enemy. Does that make them more qualified to be President?

So McCain should pick Hillary for VP to make it up to her. Then all they’ll have to do is blame Barack for Iran/Contra. I read years ago that they can’t blame GHW because he’s so old it’s not fair. He was probably McCain’s age at the time.

Other Obama mistakes:
When mcstake agreed that we need a draft
When bush agreed to timetables for withdrawal from Iraq
When mccake chowed down with bush while NOLA drowned
Why does Obama keep making these mistakes?
Yeah!
Sen. Obama keeps agreeing with his georgian lobbyist and calling us georgians, the nerve of him.

When I saw McDepends with Shrub the Elder riding around in a golf cart , I would have sworn had I not known , that Johnny (My Friends) Boy was the older of the 2 ……….Chimpy’s father is over a decade older , and seems much more spry and coherent ; that should pretty much sound alarms to those who even having an inkling of voting for multiple-house owner……But , like Halperin , they’ll probably ignore it.
August 24th, 2008 at 4:29 pmWhere is all the “conservative” enthusiasm for McCain? The GOP and McCain know they have nothing for America.
August 24th, 2008 at 4:41 pmActually the opposite is true. McCain going negative the last month has opened up a re-examination of his myth. As long as there was the perception of him as an elder statesman above the fray, his personal story stood as canon. But now that he has wallowed into the muck, everything is fair game.

Yup. his story should have been fair game after the rethugs attacked Kerry and Celand’s war records. That sewer flows both ways.
August 24th, 2008 at 4:50 pmIf mcchimpy loses his houses he can always sleep in his jet.
August 24th, 2008 at 4:51 pmFlippy McSpin could barbecue human children on the Capital steps and the “librul media” would praise him for “strengthening his stand on World hunger”. Because…
If we feed the starving
To the hungry and the poor
Their won’t be any starving and
The poor won’t be hungry no more

August 24th, 2008 at 4:56 pmMcCain must owe a BBQ to the media everyday from now on to the election. Basically it’s come down to this: if Obama makes a wise choice, it’s one of the worst moments of the campaign for him. If he makes a gaffe, then that trumps every good thing he’s ever done, which is nothing according to the media. If McCain makes a gaffe, they excuse him. If he says something to the other effect, then they worship him…
He better get the grills fired up in Sedona…
August 24th, 2008 at 5:03 pmI read on another blog that one of the new right wing talking points is that McBush has donated the proceeds from his books to charity and Obama has not.
I pointed out that McBush doesn’t need the proceeds of his book sales because he is filthy rich due to his sugar mama.
On the other hand, Obama is a fairly young guy with a family and a mortgage who is saving to put his kids through college. I’m quite sure if Obama was as filthy rich as McBush is, that he would donate the proceeds of his book to charity too.
August 24th, 2008 at 5:19 pmSlightly off topic, sorry…It is my hope that every one will contact their local TV channell’s like I did yesterday….For the first time ever it worked…Most have a web site so viewer’s can comment on their article’s..Praise or chastize them if their story is not fit….
I know my complaint worked as they were doing Mcnut’s full add about Biden every 20 minute’s for 3 hour’s, I posted a note about the add and them giving free advertising to MCnut’s and told them they were biased and should give equal time to the other runner’s and the very next run through was redone and the add droped….They do pay attention to viewer’s especielly one’s they know watch them all the time….They were mentioning Biden’s comment’s but the add stoped….Fair advertising and coverage for all or none, they are suposto be our air way’s after all….P, B, & J
August 24th, 2008 at 5:19 pmI read this morning that Clinton didn’t want to be vetted unless she was selected. That’s akin to refusing to provide your résumé unless you’re hired.
August 24th, 2008 at 5:24 pmBobwurst Says:
What mccain should do is offer to let everyone who loses their home to foreclosure live in one of his houses until they get back on their feet. He’s got so many he can’t keep track of them and it’s the christian thing to do.
The McBush camp is now saying that the other houses are just rentals. Anyone want to bet that none of them are rented?

Way to go! And you are absolutely right. It’s far past time for We The People to reclaim discourse from the corrupt and greedy. If we don’t challenge the candidates and the media? We don’t have much room to complain.
August 24th, 2008 at 5:33 pmShayne Says:
Well McWars, when you rig the Diebold machines and cage the voters it doesn’t really matter who your candidate is. And since the last smart Republican, Richard Nixon, had to leave office, all they have is stupic front men for the wizards behind the curtains.
This is why I wish the Democrats would run a national campaign to encourage everyone to vote by absentee ballot. I’m fortunate since I live in Oregon and we vote by mail. But if I lived in another state, you can bet I would be asking for an absentee ballot. That is the only way I would be fairly certain that my vote was counted and counted accurately.
Wouldn’t it be a hoot if every Democrat voted via absentee ballot? Then on election night the pundits would be totally confused as to how to call the election.

Wow…if this is true, all I can say is wow… I wonder what’s there that Hillary doesn’t want anyone to know (besides their 2007 tax return).

August 24th, 2008 at 6:02 pmIf the stupid and greedy were fed
To the poor and huddled masses…
Hi Bilbo, I suppose she didn’t want to be on the record as passed over for Biden. So yeah, she didn’t want any inquiries unless she was guaranteed to make the cut. That would have been telling Obama to consider no one else. Hillaresque now goes alongside Shermanesque.

August 24th, 2008 at 6:12 pmI saw that this morning and almost spit out my coffee through my nose. This type of blather is truely Rovian, spin your negatives into positives any way you can, and spin your opponents strong point into weaknesses. You all know, of course, that Karl Rove is working for the McSame as Bush campaign from behind the green curtain. He’s out of sight for the McSame as Bush campaign because his negatives are lower than his product, the shrub.
So, when ever you hear this kind of BS from a Repuglican mindless mouthpiece, know it’s Rove Talking Points, Rove Talking Points, ROVE TALKING POINTS!
Tell everyone, this is ROVE BS TALKING POINTS!
August 24th, 2008 at 6:13 pmHalperin: what… a… friggin’… TOOL.
It’s ALWAYS good news for the Republicans.
Watergate? Good news for the Republicans.
Iran-Contra? Good news for the Republicans.
Hurricane Katrina? Good news for the Republicans.
The Iraq War fiasco? Good news for the Republicans.
I’m so SICK of the so-called “liberal” media. With very few exceptions, they’re a bunch of blow-dried brainless twits.
August 24th, 2008 at 6:33 pmBlack is white, bad is good, war is peace, etc. You get the picture. These Rovian morons read 1984 and the MSM is allowing them to use it as a prop. The fourth estate is absolutely owned by the reichwingnuts.
August 24th, 2008 at 6:56 pmIf McCain’s houses are investment properties, the Obama oppo team should find out when they were purchased, and put out a campaign ad, showing how much his investments have lost in the last four years.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:04 pmHalperin taking abject stupidity to all new levels
August 24th, 2008 at 8:20 pmA drowning man will grasp at straws.
August 24th, 2008 at 8:27 pmHalerpin is still hurting for when Hewitt “insulted” him by being called a liberal.
August 24th, 2008 at 10:51 pmCNN’s Howard Kurtz asked today “is it really important the number of houses that McCain owns?”. But that is also spin. McCain said that his staff would get back to the questioner—meaning he did not know how many houses he had or (more likely) he was afraid to give an honest answer. That he would not or could not answer the question is the point—not whether or not you should criticize someone for owning seven houses.
August 24th, 2008 at 11:38 pmHey drick23 you know who the next president will not be? Your loser candidate John McCain. Get used to it.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:03 amThere is a reason why we do not subscribe to Time anymore (Actually several)
August 25th, 2008 at 12:13 amFLAGGED dreck.
August 25th, 2008 at 12:33 amSure dreck, CNN is a liberal news outlook. That’s why they have the likes of Glen Beck and Lou Dobbs on there, right? Why don’t you go check how much the sales tax in your hometown has gone up in the last eight years. Our buiness it has gone up 2% in the last two years to make up for the money the federal government sends to Iraq instead of spending here. But I can tell by the genius of your writing and spelling that you’re clearly in the top 1% of the population that has received all the tax breaks in the last 8 years.

How much less are your taxes with the GOP in the White House , dicklick ?
I know you sure as hell aren’t earning over $250 grand a year ; you’re nowhere near that smart………
August 25th, 2008 at 1:08 amOh . . . I get it. Obama is the reason why McCain is such an SOB. Wow . . . it’s sooo obvious. How could I have muissed that
August 25th, 2008 at 1:31 amAll during the 1992 campaign, every Republican was saying that if Clinton were president, he would raise EVERYONE’S taxes. In his eight years, he only raised taxes on singles earning $150k or more, couples earning $300k, and big businesses. Today, every Republican will tell you that Clinton raised everyone’s taxes. Same lying strategy now used against Obama.
If it were 2000 and we had record surpluses, then we would not have to raise taxes. But since we have record deficits and a $10 TRILLION debt, we must raise taxes. We could save $175 billion every year by stopping corporate welfare. And we should cut back our $900 billion annual military spending—but the top 1% and big corporations can afford to pay more.
August 25th, 2008 at 1:43 amFact is Halperin when replying to George Steph., stated himself that, “there’s already an Ayers add running in places.”
Now just before this, Halperin chimes smugly that Obama’s ad on McCain is making it hard for John to run a campaign on the up and up and this opens the door to attacking Obama in the Down and Down (para phrased, of course).
So you have Halperin first say, Obama went low. Opened the door for McCain.
So McCain is going to fire back low because Obama started it.
But, McCain is already firing low with a Bill Ayers ad…? Before Obama
ran the how many homes ad…,,?
Halperin needs to get it straight. Which is it Halperin?
If Bill Ayers ads are running already. But because Obama crossed the line with a Home ownership ad (aftr the Ayers ad). That opens the door to run slime ads on Bill Ayers like McCain is already running?
************ Halperin’s Hannity Moment***************

August 25th, 2008 at 4:39 amCorporate Media is run by Rethugs. That is why we hear nothing of the Keating five scandal, the fact that he finished in the bottom 1% of his class at Annapolis and the fact that he was a lousy pilot (crashed five planes). We hear nothing about his cheating on his first wife and we hear nothing about him being a crass hot head.
The Rethugs own the media.
