More to the point would be why NBC did not allude to, or out right mention that Mitchum was gay. Either it is because the network has become squeamish about the sexual orientation of atheletes or they are afraid of being sued over any negative repercussions from publicizing this information. After all they were in China, a country known for its civil rights violations and who have very strong anti-gay laws, and Mitchum is from Australia also know for its anti-gay laws. As it is Mitchum and his partner maybe headed for government harassment when they return home.

The problem is that NBC went out of their way to AVOID mentioning his partner!

Would you feel the same if a straight person’s wife/girlfriend of a heterosexual was specifically left out of coverage that other news agencies reports on, or would you be saying “Why did they avoid the same reporting as other agencies?”

Once equal rights are given to EVERYONE, then it’ll be a non-issue. As long as there is a double standard, expect it to be an issue that people refuse to “get over”.

The editor of Think Progress obviously thinks it is important to celebrate a person’s homosexuality.

Frankly speaking, I would rather not hear aout a person’s sexual proclivities. It has absolutely no bearing on my thoughts of that person profession.

The editor of Think Progress is way over the top on this one.

No wonder average Americans groan when Liberals celebrate homosexuality. Most people do not want to picture other people’s sexual desires. That shit should remain private.
