Ban on gay adoption cleared for Arkansas ballot.

A ballot initiative “aimed at effectively banning gays and lesbians from becoming foster or adoptive parents” was cleared to appear on this fall’s ballot in Arkansas. The measure “would prohibit unmarried couples living together from fostering or adopting children.” Sen. John McCain has caved to the right wing on this issue, recently stating that he doesn’t “believe in gay adoption.” “I am for the values that two parent families, the traditional family represents,” McCain said recently, presumably indicating his support for the Arkansas initiative.

Update Florida, California, and Arizona are considering separate ballot initiatives that would ban gay marriage. More in today’s Progress Report.

But it’s still OK in Arkansas for siblings to marry.

Looks as if Jim will vote a top-down anti-American ticket in November.

  5. stateofthedivision says:

This is intended to lure the Daryll’s to the polls in a Night of the Living Dead moment. There’s nothing alive about their version of Christianity.

They turned Christ, God in human form, into the Strict Father model and sucked the love right out of him.

  6. miatch says:

Daryll didn’t we call you out in the last thread? Jesus said nothing about the gays. And yet he said Rich men don’t go to heaven. Let’s see, Biden’s net worth is $150K, McCain’s is $100 million…
And your roman’s quote was about how rich people like McCain get involved in the sex trade.

  7. miatch says:

    @10
EXACTLY! the Daryll’s of this world would rather children get raised in orphanages than raised by loving families. And then have the audacity to claim the name “Family Values”.

  8. MrSquirrel says:

It’s not a direct ban on gays adopting, it’s a ban on unmarried couples of any combination adopting. So apparently the objection isn’t just against gay parents, it’s against any unmarried couple as parents.

I assume it’s currently legal for an unmarried couple to adopt, since this law is aimed at prohibiting that. So, isn’t that discriminating against not only gays, but also agnostics and atheists that may choose long term cohabitation over official government sanctioned marriage, which is primarily a religious based institution?

Yes, you can get married without a religious ceremony… but why is marriage required at all? Beyond its religious significance, marriage is superficial to a relationship, except as a near-guarantee that lawyers will get involved if the relationship dissolves. Why must the government sanction my relationship? Can not my chosen partner and I raise a child without government approval?

  9. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

This is sad beyond words. The two most delightful and well adjusted children I know are both children of gay parents (one female and one male couple). They do not want for any influence in their lives. Both couples have numerous friends of the opposite sex who provide role models when needed and huge loving extended families.

Personally, I would have rather been raised by a loving gay couple than by the abusive heterosexual parents who raised me.

  11. barfly says:

Has anyone been able to read the actual initiative?

The link didn’t work for me.

  12. miatch says:

Hey TripleKick: McCain intentionally obfuscated his answer:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=llZuoMXpr4s

When he says “Family Values” he is saying he wants kids in orphanages rather than loving homes.

  13. House of Roberts says:

Arkansas is a big fundy adoption mill. Unwed mothers from all over that can be convinced to give up their babies for adoption are sent to Arkansas to live with volunteers who see to it the girls are cared for and get pre-natal care as an alternative to abortion or keeping the baby. This is because the Arkansas adoption laws are the most lenient in the south.

  14. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    TripleKick 15 Says:
faiz is lying again. McCain never once voiced opposition to gay adoption.

No, you are lying. Here’s what McCain said:

Q: President Bush believes that gay couples should not be permitted to adopt children. Do you agree with that?

Mr. McCain: I think that we’ve proven that both parents are important in the success of a family so, no I don’t believe in gay adoption.

  15. barfly says:

would prohibit unmarried couples living together from fostering or adopting children.”

That’s going to lose McCain some female votes.

    Make that many female votes.

  16. Xisithrus says:

But Karl Rove said McCain was gay and yet he adopted a child.

    Was Karl lying?

  17. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    republicans hate facts Says:
Actually I agree that it is an issue that Barrack (the Hussein crap is just childish churlishness – grow up little child) doesn’t support gay marriage. However he’s not opposed to gay adoption – and McCain’s stance so far indicates he is

You know I’m getting sick and tired of people saying that Barack Hussein Obama is against gay marriage. That is not the truth. He is against a constitutional amendment allowing for gay marriage. This is because he, like Republicans used to, thinks that it should be up to the states to decide. He also supports Civil Unions for gay couples that include all the rights and privileges that marriage entails.

  18. barfly says:

    republicans hate facts Says:

Exactly! And if Obama wants to make ground among those female voters not yet committed to him then he needs to make a clear stand. And not one of those half @ss@d vague statements he’s prone to making to reach the religious freaks!

And aimed at Hillary supporters, as well. Walk them through the consequences of a McCain victory.

I don’t recall Jesus saying anything about in virto fertilization, but for some couples, that’s the only way to get a child.

Don’t forget people born with both sets of reproductive organs. God creates these as well, Daryll.

  22. Above the Clouds says:

Anything other than this is considered an abomination . . . UNLESS you’re a Republican closet case. Or Dick Cheney’s daughter.

  24. Klem Kiddilehopper says:

Does anyone know where one could look up the number of adoptions that the pro-lifers have made, over the years? You would think that anyone in the pro-life movement(You know the type, the ones that are the screechers/yellers outside a Womens Clinc) would at least adopted 2 or 3 kids maybe more, of the ones they had saved! Am I correct?
I am mainly interested in hearing from the pro-lifers about all their adoptions on this question! I’m sure they don’t look at their screaming and jumping around as only a 8-5 job!
Let’s hear it from the Pro-Lifers! Stand up for your beleifs and let me know how many you have adopted!

  25. Xisithrus says:

    Daryll Says:

Why do you hate Cheneys daughter?

  26. Xisithrus says:

Well, Daryll, people adopt kids that were created Gods way. Are you saying that people, like McCain, shouldnt adopt a child because he and Cindy didnt fornicate?

  27. belac says:

If you want a child, do it God’s way. Anything other than this is considered an abomination.

Seriously, it’s good someone finally has the courage to call out adoptive parents… what with their selfish raising of children in loving homes, these children knew what they were getting into when they decided to be born orphans or have drug-addicted parents and it’s time they pulled themselves up by their bootie-straps.
    Good call Daryll!
Everyone knows that an orphan should remain in an orphanage until he or she becomes the subject of a Dickensian adventure or dies in a freak wallet-making accident or both.

  28. stateofthedivision says:

Cheney’s daughter? It’s chapter 1066 in Republican apologetics. It’s also a sign the Elephant Party is using their religious hoardes, giving them the proverbial wedgie or kick in the arse.

Yet, they’ll turn out like Orcs a the polls come November.

  29. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    Daryll Says:
If you want a child, do it God’s way. Anything other than this is considered an abomination

So, Daryll thinks that all those kids out there who don’t have parents can all grow up in orphanages. How christian of you Daryll. I’m sure that kind of an attitude adds another point to you “Daryll’s going to hell” score sheet the good lord is keeping on you.

Besides, the only person who thinks that children being adopted is an abomination is you Daryll, and frankly, we don’t give a fcuk what you think.

Is anyone besides me sick to death of these people who call themselves Christians but who are full of hate for anyone or anything that is not like them? I know I am.

  31. Xisithrus says:

I am not going to pick on Darylls belief system, I do disagree with his opinion that people should only have children if they are able to have children as it denys an innocent child of the chance of having a home.

Secondly my ex-wife, who is quite religious, gave up her first child [not mine] to an adoption agency because her parents were embarassed their daughter was pregnant out of wedlock and basically forced her to give up her child. The child however was adopted by a good family and has a good home as the reports we got showed.

    Jesus taught:

Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.
But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
The eye is the lamp of the body; so then if your eye is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light that is in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.

Today, TP has several posts on politicians catering to the rich and their corresponding tax benefits. Yet, Daryll and his kind will march to the polls to fight gay adoption.

  36. blue state bob says:

In 2004 it was gay marriage, I guess gay adoption is 2008s canard, and idiots like Darryl and the other religious idiots in this country will vote lock step even as they lose their homes and lose their jobs. You would think they would learn, but these homophobe pigs don’t think.

“Smarter and more capable”? You’re not referring to yourself, are you? Because if you were, I’d be ROTFL, and that’s just too stupid for words.

I’m guessing you wouldn’t be too happy if someone posted links to your personal information — and, yes, photos of yourself would certainly qualify to most normal people as “personal information.” Just because Daryll was dumb enough to post an email address doesn’t make it OK for you to follow up and post his social networking information.

    No idea about Trip.

  64. ChrisSEA says:

So this Daryll figure is a really good representation of all that is reprehensible about so many Christians.

    Let’s spell it out here.

Daryll uses the bible to justify his banning us gays from adopting (the children hets throw away).

Now, according to Daryll’s bible, as long as you have children ‘god’s way’, it’s then ok to murder them if they speak back to you.

Of course his bible condones murder all over the place which is why he probably feels George Bush is a good Christian.

  65. ChrisSEA says:

Also I forgot to ask Daryll, would your church happen to be Westboro Baptist?

  66. Shayne says:

But in reality, single people have children all the time. Should they be damned to hell with the rest of us? How about infertile couples… should they be denied adoption because they can’t procreate? Damn the infertile for adoption?

  78. DRxJ says:

Well, this made for an interesting read this morning.
    My 2 cents:

I believe Parodyll can google search the internet just as RHF can. I do not think that is the actual Parodyll. Parodyll’s posts are to off the wall hypocritical to be real. Case in point the “abomination” post, which caused quite the chaos of off topic arguments.
I believe RHF needs to up his(?) meds. Yes, he(?) is an intelligent poster, but he(?) loses points each and every time he attacks women, or makes fun of other’s looks or appearance.
Ironic that he(?) used to criticize JMH for being a women hater, then turns around and becomes one.

Back on topic, if this ballot passes, there will be more unloved children in this world.
I, for one, have no problem with unmarried couples adopting.
God forbid, if something happened to my wife and I and our immediate family was unable to raise our children, I have no problem with them being raised by 2 males, 2 females, or an unmarried couple, as long as they were loved.

    I
    Am
    So
    Tired
    Of
    Gay
    Bashing!
