Cheney flees to Georgia during RNC week.

The White House announced today that Vice President Cheney will be traveling to Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Ukraine on Sept. 2, causing him to miss most of the Republican National Convention. Cheney, however, is still scheduled to speak on the convention’s opening night, Sept. 1. Marc Ambinder calls it “a way to make sure VP Cheney doesn’t distract from the RNC proceedings.” While Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) claims President Bush was “very badly served” by Cheney, Yglesias notes that in 2000, McCain said he would have made Cheney vice president had he won the presidency.

And the proper way to approach that is to send the world’s biggest chickenhawk chickenshit war monger to a volatile area that’s a ticking time bomb ?

  3. RUCerious says:

Mayhaps the fine folks in Georgia can rendition this bastard to Den Hague?

    Please!?

  4. stateofthedivision says:

Cheney has more war to make before he leaves office.

  5. mark_scism says:

What a dumb headline. Cheney ain’t fleeing, he’s probably going over there to cut pipeline deals while media attention focuses on conventions

  6. spencers mom says:

Cheney is as popular as a case of syphilis and just as damaging.

  7. CitiDC says:

Will Cheney’s cash-for-access aide Stephen Payne be accompanying him? What about McCain lobbyist Randy Scheunemann?

For what it’s worth, my new troll policy is to flag, flag, flag and NOT cut and paste it’s statement. That way, once it’s been banned, it’s garbage disappears with it.

    Just saying…

Your genius is breathtaking. It’s either that or you need to change your pants. One can’t be sure.

  10. Shayne says:

That’s one way to go spencers mom but sometimes when it’s not too offensive it gives latecomers a chance to beat down the stupidity even after the troll has been banned.

With luck, 5-deferment Dickhead Cheney is going hunting-and taking Tracy6(?) and Goo-Goo with him.

  12. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

Shayne, you are correct. Cheney is either going to Georgia to cut pipeline deals or he’s hand delivering plans for phase II of the conflict with Russia. God knows renewing the cold war is very profitable for Cheney’s war profiteering cronies and also good for the McCain campaign.

No , it isn’t ; kind of hard to call someone a “maverick” when those he criticizes are also those he said he would have given jobs to in his administration had he won the presidency during the stage where that moniker was a bit more applicable……….

I was trying to compose something on this subject, but MCM absolutely nailed it, so i won’t even bother.

He’s more likely talking about containing Russian blowback after the cascading series of events, also known as Cheney’s Nightime Fantasy.

    1. Israel attacks Iran’s nuclear facilities
    2. Iran retaliates
    3. The huge American and international armada in the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, Mediteranean and Pacific (off North Africa) crushes Iran’s response
    4. Iran’s Ahmadinejad pleads for help in a surprisingly similar fashion to Georgian leader Saakashvili
    5. The United Nations sits on its hands
    6. The Carlyle Group’s sale of John Maneeley to a Russian steel firm goes through unopposed
    7. The U.S. agrees to trade a Saakashvili for an Ahmadinejad and all the hegemonic world powers are happy. Oil flows freely, but at much higher levels due to “world conflict”

All of Dick Cheney’s dreams come true. All of his true friends are overjoyed. He retires from his double secret stamping job as VP with kajillions in Halliburton stock.

  19. Uncle Fester Lurks says:

At least Bush & McCain had exist strategies for Vietnam…

One hides in Alabama doing coke, getting drunk and a governors daughter while assisting his campaign, the other gets shot down out of the sky, in effect saving his life while others die.

Not when his policies are Xerox copies of those he criticizes.

Not when he’s voted with the people he criticizes 95% (2007) or even 100% (2008).

It’s pretty easy to call him “McSame”.

No wonder you are a Republican. You fall for their little sleight of hand every time.

Allow me to explain this particular trick. You see, Dick Cheney enjoys being widely detested by all but the sickest right-wing fanatics. Therefore, John McCain is allowed to use his evil persona as a device to excuse Bush’s disastrous administration. McCain is not distancing himself from Bush; he’s absolving Bush from blame so he can embrace Bush without repercussions.

  22. McWars says:

This is not good. I call for a vote to authorize force against Georgia to remove Cheney. But first, fetch Unbelievable a flight out of that rash red state.

    ____________

You gotta lay off the Kool-aid so early in the day. No matter what happens come November, it certainly won’t a McGovern caliber defeat for either candidate. And of course, you are old enough to remember what happened to Nixon AFTER he won so handily, aren’t you?

On the other hoof, McCain has publicly stated he most definitely would continue to pursue the same course Botch has set…

Standing at an event this morning with former President George H.W. Bush to receive his and Barbara’s endorsement, McCain was asked whether he “would be in effect carrying out a third Bush term.”

“I’d be honored to have President George Bush’s support, his endorsement,” McCain responded. “And I’d be honored to be anywhere with him under any circumstances.” He added, “I am proud of this president’s strategy in Iraq.

  27. Chris LeJeune says:

    good_golly,

This is the point I always make about McCain’s age. It really does put him out of touch with the majority of America. Most people on the street know who President Bush is, so when you compare McCain with Bush the average person gets it. McCain himself has said he does not plan to distance himself from Bush. They are one in the same.

On the other hand, no one remembers McGovern. That was 1972. You’re average voter today was a small child at the time. It just doesn’t come across well. McCain ahs also tried comparing Obama to Carter. Same problem – the average voter doesn’t remember him. Why doesn’t he try to compare Obama to Clinton? Most people know who Bill Clinton is.

  28. ralph the wonder llama says:

With her desperate invocation of McGovern, is it fair to say that Gigi has officially “jumped the shark“?

Wow! This is quite a development. Who ever thought we would see right-wing Republican drones endorse a Clinton?

They’re more terrified of Obama than I thought!

  30. Dharma says:

So, Cheney had his bases covered in 2000. They clearly planned a government takeover come hell or high water. Even Lieberman was the VP for the Dems. They could have knocked off Gore if he had won and still been in place for this takeover. They are not going to let go of power. Ever. And don’t think they will. There will be another terror attack or they’ll set off a biological weapon and call for Martial Law and Bush will remain in office. Mark my words.

The Soviet dictator Joe Stalin supported the “territorial integrity of Georgia.” So why are Bush, Cheney, Rice and McCain following the imperial wishes of a Soviet dictator?

And everyone is waiting breathlessly for the pint-sized GOP convention ; where students will get to see how one shouldn’t read index cards while trying to deliver a speech……..

  38. Bob says:

So, cheney speaks on Labor Day and then leaves the country. All of the lies he tells Monday night not only won’t be challenged because of the holiday but also because he won’t be in the country to defend himself. Thus, all the rs will ride the wave of unchallenged lies all week and somehow show a ‘bump’ that will be mysteriously missing from the ds. It will (somehow) therefore be proven that Americans want the pinto, not the lexus.

The reason for a trip to Georgia – shore up future conflicts to raise oil prices. Now that an “aspirational” timeline has been set in Iraq, it is going to make the stealing of their resources more difficult (maybe prices would go down).

Have to get another conflict moving for the retirement fund.

I agree with the idea of rendition and war crimes…can’t the Kremlin see to it?

  47. stateofthedivision says:

While Cheney flys around the word inciting war, President Bush may use his time on the podium to castigate an uncooperative Congress.

Will he pull a 1948 Harry Truman and call Congress back into session? Today’s Republican Energy protest implied such a thing. Imagine the loud cheers from his base, and the stories from FOX news. Will they say George gave Nancy a wedgie? Hee, hee, hee…

Bush may need Congress back earlier to support his latest military incursion in the Middle East. The knuckle draggers are desperate and plan on throwing lots of curveballs. Keep your head up and don’t do any quail imitations!
