‘Condescending’ Buchanan calls Obama a ‘kid’ and ‘a natural athlete.’

On MSNBC’s Morning Joe this morning, Pat Buchanan argued that Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) will not be able to aggressively attack the policy proposals of his opponent Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). “I don’t deny this kid is tough. … But he’s not a fighter,” Buchanan said. Newsweek’s Jon Meacham pushed back, calling Buchanan’s comments “condescending.” “This ‘kid’ is the Democratic nominee for President,” Meacham reminded Buchanan. Buchanan defended himself, saying that Obama is “an outstanding politician, a great natural athlete.” Watch it:

Buchanan has a history of “condescending” and racially insensitive remarks. In March, he suggested that Obama was winning the black vote in the primaries simply because he is black and — specifically noting the role slavery played in U.S. history — argued that “America has been the best country on earth for black folks.”

hmm… just a short jump from ‘kid’ to ‘boy’

The new codebook must have been released just in time for the Democratic convention.

Pat B. has turned into the comic relief for MSNBC. Always predictable and with his head up the ass of the GOP.

Wasn’t there a concern troll who this morning was urging us to embrace Pat Buchanan?

    Good call there.

  5. Badmoodman says:

How many more “Al Campanis” moments will Buchanan subject us to before MSNBC cuts him loose so Fox News can claim him on waivers?

  6. Bobwurst says:

That’s right pat, and he can’t swim either, it’s in his bone structure. And while we’re at it, scarbag is a piece of shit too. It’s amazing two congressional interns die in 2001. One congressman is hounded day and night by non-stop cable news stories and leaves DC in disgrace, the other leaves without a peep and quickly lands a cushy job at a cable news station. Guess which one was a dem and which was a repub?

  7. raynman says:

The next time someone mentions the Liberal Media, please just point at Pat Buchanan, roll your eyes, and laugh…

  8. Frosty Cupcake says:

With the exception of Keith Olbermann on MSNBC and Bill Moyers on PBS, I see no liberalism anywhere on televsion.

    Liberal media, my ass.

  11. ljm says:

First, Pat’s a putz. And secondly, he actually thinks he’s adding to the dialog, when hurt and negativity are always his goal, even when one thinks he’s giving a compliment. Hopefully NBC will drop him after the election.

  12. Bobwurst says:

So if it’s ok to comment on Obama’s age, is it ok to comment on mccain’s? Seriously. Why can’t talking heads talk about grampy mcgeezer’s dwindling minutes on this planet?

  15. valletta says:

Had dinner last night with some new friends and neighbors and we got to talking about Obama. And this one old timer ranch hand said it’s not that he couldn’t vote for a “black”, he just thinks Obama is “scary”. And so I pressed him and he kept saying things like, “I’m not a racist, I know a neighbor who is married to a black” and it was just the weirdest conversation I’ve ever had. He talked about black people like they were aliens but still thought he wasn’t racist.
And this is in California! I can’t imagine how bad it is elsewhere….

  16. Bobwurst says:

Yeah Frosty, it was detirmined that scabby’s intern died of natural causes, but if he’d been a dem he’d have hounded out of town, just like condit.

  17. Bobwurst says:

And mccain won the geritol vote because he’s a stupid old man too. let’s not be “politically correct”.

  18. stateofthedivision says:

OK, Pat. If they drop the gloves, why wouldn’t the younger, natural athlete win? Especially when his opponent has two bad shoulders.

You can’t go mixing metaphors, unless you’re part of the ruling class. Dang, Buchanan’s old, white and has a soapbox to spout from…

  19. 5th Estate says:

As they are talking in sports metaphors who would you place your bet on in a ‘fight’? The tall ‘kid’ or the short twenty-five-year-older senior who can’t raise his hands above his shoulders (supposedly)?

  20. Bobwurst says:

seriously bunny, quit hiding behind that political correctness dodge. Obama was supposed to be too white at the begining, then he was too black, then he was too inexperienced, then he was too well versed in chicago politics, then he needed to pick joe biden to shore up his forigen policy chops, then his picking biden showed he was weak because he really needed to choose hillary, and he’s weak becuase he didn’t…tomorrow, he’s going to be wrong becuuse he uses colgate toothpaste and 4 out of 5 dentists recomend crest, and he’ll be weak because he caved into the tylenol lobby instead of using bayer aspirin becuase nothing works better than bayer…

  21. DieNowForPeace says:

And this is in California! I can’t imagine how bad it is elsewhere….

The majority of Californians are NOT from there.

They move there for the economy and (yuk) the never varying weather.

Head north, talk to Northern Californians and you’ll note a distinct difference.

  22. jayjaybear says:

Mccain is the one who gets treated with kid gloves bunny. he he has said so many stupid things, lied outright, spewed laughable talking points and not been called on any of it. your “boy” mccain will never be held to the same standard and that obama “boy” and you know it. and you’re scared because the scary black man is going to win anyway.

  32. zuch says:

  34. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

In order for Obama to aggressively attack McCain’s positions, McCain has to have policy proposals. As far as I can tell, he has none. All you hear from McCain is vague talking points, very little in the way of specifics.

  35. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    Bunny2 Says:
Obama did win the majority of black voters because he is black. That is an obvious assertion. Why do you think he got the vast majotity of the black vote?

Because they thought he was the best candidate. Everyone seems to forget that Hillary started the primaries with the vast majority of blacks behind her. They decided to vote for Obama because they thought he was the better candidate.

So Bunny2 – I guess all those old white men will vote for McBush because he’s an old white man too. Dontcha think?

  36. tjdevil96 says:

You think Obama only won the majority of black voters because he is black? That is racist condescension and frankly its dumb. Why did Clinton, Gore and Kerry win the huge majority of black voters since the last time I looked none of THEM were black? The black vote is by and large more liberal than the white vote and Obama was the more liberal candidate. In fact in anything other than flat economic issues he was the most liberal candidate of those with a real shot at the nomination and of the two who were the REAL frontrunners he was by far the most liberal. That is a rightwing talking point with the soft racism that has defined the right for decades. Dont buy into it.

Buchanan is referring to him as “kid” because of his lack of experience. The moderate wing of the democratic party is going to take back the party because of Obama. The moderates understand that a loss for Obama will force the far left to concede their stranglehold of the democratic party. Hillary is begining to look good for 2012. I would have voted Clinton over Obama.

No, you are too scared of the far left loons that control your party. The moderates on the left are your enemy. Like Lieberman, who voted to support Iraq, just like Biden did. If Obama was so right about not supporting Iraq, as he liked to say so often when debating Hillary, then why would Obama select Biden to be his VP?

“Idiot assklown”? I noticed you removed your myspace page from your moniker. Very good idea. No one want’s to see a geritol clown in make-up.

Do you believe that Obama was treated with kids gloves in the primaries as I do? Why don’t you ask Hillary Clinton if she was treated with kid gloves by the liberal media. She was defeated because of the left wing media. Just because she voted for Iraq. And isn’t it funny now that Obama has picked Biden because of his so-called foreign policy creds? Joe Biden voted for Iraq, just as Hillary did! Joe got it right, right?

First of all there IS no left wing media that stupid zombie meme is for the feeble minded. Obama was treated with kid gloves? Is that a joke? I heard about nothing but Wright and Ayers for months. Hillary was pilloried too but Dems always get more scrutiny than the GOP. Was Romney, Huccabee or McCain treated ANYWHERE NEAR as badly or scrutinized as closely as Hillary and Obama? By far the most liberal person running for President was Kucinich. The press refused to even TALK about what he had to say. As for Iraq the VAST majority of the American people are dissatisfied and frankly disgusted by the war its that simple. To pretend the media was harping on Iraq is to be detached from reality. Biden DOES know his foriegn policy. He was wrong about Iraq. Bush LIED to congress about Iraq and THAT might have had something to do with it. I dont absolve any of the Dems for that mistake. I knew Bush was a lying piece of garbage and I am not a Senator so its hard to give them a pass but your whole frame is frankly ludicrous.

But then he writes pieces on Antiwar.com that are spot on. Read what he wrote about the Iraq war prior to it, and it matches up perfectly with Obama. Read his last essay on Georgia, and I’m more in agreement with it than I am with Obama/Biden.

    What to do?

  47. EugeneDebs says:

    Bunny2 Says:

OK now your delusions have taken you into the realm of outright insanity. The far left stranglehold on the Dem party? That may be the single stupidest thing I have read in recent years. I LEFT the Dem party because of their disdain for real lefty liberals. How did the only REAL hardcore liberal Kucinich do again? He go WHAT support from the Party machine? You are nutso. Your argument that to win the Dems have to become more like the GOP is another self serving zombie meme from the righwing Turn off Rush Limbaugh and at least TRY to think for yourself.

But then again, in order for there to be any truth to the “far left loon” mantra, there would have to be a viable Communist Party in the good ol’ U.S.A. Does anyone know of any nationally prominant communists?

As I’ve said before, to a Reichwinger, anyone to the “left” of Murdoch’s right testicle is a “far left loon”.

Not scared at all. I heve never been more confident in who will be president in this election. Obama is going to lose. If he was ahead by eight points at this time, I would think he will win. But a dead heat at this time is good for Mc Cain. The moderate wing of the democratic party will vote for Mc Cain this election allowing the moderate wing to take back control. The J.K.K. wing of the party has had enough. It will show on election day. We want better candidates!!!

McCain’s the one who’s been getting the kid gloves treatment from the press. That man has made more gaffes during this campaign than Yogi Berra’s made in a lifetime. Obama’s connection with Wright has resulted in exponentialy more press than Hagee’s endorsement of McCain despite the fact that not only is Hagee just bats**t crazy, McCain actively sought Hagee’s endorsement.

Endless observation. I used to be a big reader of the The New York Times and TWSJ. I noticed some time ago the different directions they were going. One to the left and the other to the right. Look at where each paper covers certain stories and how they cover them. Good news in Irag is on page 19 in the Times and on page 2 inr the WSJ You cannot deny that fact. If you do, you are not being honest. The news outlets are making money and news, when they should be reporting the news.

If you are gonna claim a phenomenon than be prepared to critically examine the foundations and root causes of the condition you claim to be a reality. Frickin’ pussies

How about we start with how journalist vote.

    Well start here- http://www.mediaresearch.org/biasbasics/biasbasics3.asp

—again this entirely misses the point. I want not evidences. Instead I ask for the causes. So far we have the suggesting that they are indoctrinated by left educational institutes. Lame but at least a start. So if we go from there and assume these poor folks where just brainwashed at some leftist campus than we must ask why the suggested majority of journalism and communications collegiate programs are as suggested. Again is the right to frickin’ lame to win the battle of the marketplace?

  76. Saint Augustine says:

Rabbitbrain the media is not owned by liberals now is it. Do you do what your employer tells you to do?

We have a lot of problems from the graduates from the College of Business who were taught by those conservative professors teaching Economics and Banking in those MBA programs now too, don’t we?

  77. dbadass says:

Yes I do but sporadically as I prefer the tactile experience of reading an actual paper and I am far enough away from the city and far too frugal and environmentally conscious to subscribe. So I assume you think the entertainment industry is dominated by the left as well. What’s up with that?

  78. greenpagan says:

Racially insensitive? That’s it. Let him off easy. The reality is: Patrick J. Buchanan never met a Nazi criminal he didn’t like. He thinks fighting Hitler’s Germany was the wrong thing to do. He just wrote a book on the subject.

What is it with America? We’re bloody expert killers on the one hand, and on the other we keep trying to project this genteel petit bourgeois namby-pamby image.

  79. pbg says:

Bunnykins, that survey showing reporters’ bias is from 1982. A quarter of a century ago. But you hacks keep bringing it up.
But there is a reason why beat reporteres tend to be liberal. They tend to cover fires where poor families huddle out on the street having no place to go. They do stories on crumbling schools, on the victims of crime, on struggling churches and struggling stores and struggling neighborhoods. They actually look into the eyes of the poor and see a mixture of everything but laziness.
When a reporter covers everyday injustice as it is found in America, lots of them seem to think something should be done about it. That turns them into liberals.

Republicans are big fans of broad abstractions, of how the free market fixes everything, about how the rich arevictimized, and how the poor are lazy parasites who need to get shocked out of complacency by a little deprivation and brutality. It’s usually helped by not seeing the victims of those policies.

That liberal tendency, of course doesn’t happen if the well-connected child goes from one of the right schools directly into a pundit position with nonne of that messy reporting in between. Jonah Goldberg can get a column at the LA Times directly from writing nothing but opinion. These people who never interviewed a drive-by victim, walked into a crack house, or waked into a foster home filled with garbage and plates crawling with maggots–why, they can be liberated from those horrible liberal tendencies.
