Rove: Obama-Lugar bill to secure loose nukes was ‘minor housekeeping measure,’ ‘unimportant.’

Interviewed on Fox News today, former Bush adviser Karl Rove claimed legislation sponsored by Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) to secure loose nuclear weapons throughout the former Soviet Union was a “minor housekeeping issue” that made “some technical changes”:

What he’s referring to that passed Congress I think even on a voice vote, that had to do with some technical changes to some of the protocols we had in place, primarily for dealing with surplus, conventional weapons from the old Soviet bloc. It was a minor housekeeping measure. It was important in the greater scheme of things. But as far as Congress went, it was so relatively unimportant and uncontroversial that it passed on a voice vote.

Watch it:

Sen. Dick Lugar (R-IN), who co-sponsored the legislation, thought otherwise. The legislation helped “keep deadly conventional weapons like anti-aircraft missiles out of the hands of terrorists,” he noted in 2007, and would “help other nations find and eliminate conventional weapons that have been used against our own soldiers in Iraq and sought by terrorists all over the world.”

    is Rove at the DNC?

someone get him under citizens arrest!

  3. Frosty Cupcake says:

I really wish the Dems could get someone like Lugar or Hagel to speak at their convention. Sure they’re still conservatives, but so far out of the lunacy that marks the modern GOP that I think it would be great if they’d do it.

    Oh well.

  4. Duncan_James says:

Indeed, nuclear proliferation is such a small issue that the Bush administration was happy to roll it back over the last 8 years.

Bush is the best judge of an issues importance, he doesn’t believe in Global Warming either.

  5. cmlane says:

Everything Senator Obama does according to the neocons is “minor”. It’s minor when the Iraqi government supports Obama’s timeline, it’s minor when Israel/Bushco agrees to diplomacy with Iran, it’s minor when Obama says we should attack Taliban/ Al-Qaeda forces inside Pakistan and the Bush administration does the very thing the next day….everything is so damn minor.

But McCain’s bluster and chest thumping is SO MAJOR!

Didn’t the Democrats send a strongly worded letter? To be followed shortly by wishful thinking.

  10. DieNowForPeace says:

Why the HELL isn’t Rove arrested for contempt of Congress yet?

You know why, cause you have to be castrated upon being sworn into the Congress, or any form of Federal Government.

  11. Buckie Boy says:

So criminal Rove speaks, of course it is not “important”, not when you NEED another 9/11 to regain control of the “Fearful” electorate…do you really think Bush and Cheney want to keep weapons out of the hands of terrorists?

It is the only card they play.

Do you believe anyone here supports Jefferson? His trial date is set, Rove’s is not.

  21. RUCerious says:

Darlyy, I don’t think you’re gonna get much traction comparing a corrupt congressman to one of the architects of this effing mess we find ourselves in.

Rove should be tried on treason charges for his role in the Plame outing.

Shit, compared to that, 80 large in the freezer is like shoplifting.

  34. stateofthedivision says:

But cleaning the Bush stain from the fabric of our country, now that’s a major housekeeping undertaking!

Getting out Karl’s explosive rhetoric will take oodles of bleach. It would go quicker if Rove would just take a vow of silence.

  35. texaslady says:

rover looks as disgusting outside as he is inside is that what happens when you constantly live and spew evil ?

  36. Pete Tagliani says:

Considering that Karl’s boss invaded a country over some aluminum tubes and vans, I would think that “surplus, conventional weapons from the old Soviet bloc” would generate a greater sense of urgency.

I’m starting to think that this Karl guy has a habit of being disingenuously misleading.

  37. Buck says:

More comments are directed towards Daryll than at the subject at hand.

Looks like Daryll got his way and derailed the discussion. (which, I’ve noticed, is a common occurrence here at TP)

But that’s not such a bad thing. If you took away all the “Darylls” of TP, commenting would drop and so would web site hits.

    And we can’t have that.

  38. stateofthedivision says:

But Karl’s boss is happy The Carlyle Group is selling a steel tube maker to Russia.

Best tell McCain these aren’t the same tubes that power the internet.

  39. And the beat goes on says:

I can’t believe this crook has anything but minor influence here in the states but he and his minions still stir up crap faster that a sewage treatment plant! All they do is throw out everything they can (much of it from the shadows) and hope for a complete undermining of all our national moral and ethical values.

Why this guy is still walking around is beyond me. Nancy and her crew (Rove minions?) just closes her eyes and hopes it goes away before she is indicted. I just read an article at Opednews about Cindy Sheehan finding some guy in her room with a screwdriver messing with her phone. Phone problems are usually fixed by switching out the phone. I finally decided to put my money where my mouth is — I went to Cindyforcongerss.org and made a contribution. We need to fill Congress with Cindy Sheehans to get our voices heard!

You know I am sick of the nice words to say rover is a rotten liar. Some people like to start crap, keep stirring crap, just because it makes them feel good. We give him credibility by even repeating his crap.

  42. Mark701 says:

Is Rove back in town? Shouldn’t he be answering questions in front of the senate judiciary committee??

  43. mary says:

    stateofthedivision Says:

But cleaning the Bush stain from the fabric of our country, now that’s a major housekeeping undertaking!

You’re so smart stateofthedivision! We need to take all the crap twits like Rove toss out and throw it right back at them!

How’s this – “I hear Karl Rove thinks that dealing with some loose nukes is now considered minor housekeeping. Well let’s do some MAJOR housekeeping this fall and sweep the Republicans right out of office!”

  44. Wayne says:

Here we have a Faux Snewz “reporter” interviewing Rove, so does anyone expect the truth from either one?
    I mean really…..

2 liars spouting lies never equal a truth.

  45. TheRadicalRightisRadicallyWrong says:

    Ironic isn’t it?

Rove says Obama’s efforts to keep weapons out of the hands of those that would hurt us was simply a housekeeping measure…

What would he call the effort to out a COVERT CIA OPERATIVE tasked with the job of keeping weapons out of the hands of those that would hurt us?

To me it’s kinda like emptying the vacuum bag back in the middle of the living room floor after the house keeper just finished running the sweeper. And then taking a big steaming dump right on top of the pile of dirt.

  46. LibertyLover says:

Why is this traitor on the TV?

  47. DRxJ says:

    (Ignoring Parodyll’s shiite postings)
Interviewed on Fox News today, former Bush adviser Karl Rove claimed legislation sponsored by Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) to secure loose nuclear weapons throughout the former Soviet Union was a “minor housekeeping issue” that made “some technical changes”:

What he forgot to add was:
Back in August ‘01, President Bush ignored the APB stating “Bin Laden determined to strike US with planes”. Had he not, it would have resulted in a major housekeeping issue that would have made significant technical changes, and prevented a horrendous terrorist attack.

  48. ChrisSEA says:

There’s a reason I have a bumper sticker on my car that says ‘REPUBLICANS ARE CROOKS’.

Rove, Bush, Chenney and all the neocons are the biggest bunch out there.

  49. MapleStreet says:

And yet, as I remember it, loose / unsecured and undocumented nukes were leaking out of the Soviet labs and represented the single largest source of nuclear material with potential to go to the terrorists.

  50. Alecto says:

Arrest, try and hang Karl Rove!

  51. sectionop92 says:

Of course Rove thinks the bill was unimportant. Because if you’re any Petric, Cho or Janis whose nation sends troops to Iraq or helps store or interrogate “terrorists” for us, you’ll get some very large “packages” from Rove through Col. Agent Ollie North’s munitions agency.

  52. dasm says:

Why does anyone listen to Rove? He is a criminal – ignoring all U.S. laws for his own good, & skipping the country when called on. All media should shun this criminal, blatant liar, & smearer. Show him the door, for God’s sake.

  53. Funky P says:

I just had to read the headline to get good and pi$$ed off. Rove should be in the congressional jail under inherent contempt and that’s all I want to hear about Karl Rove. Until then, why should I (or anyone else) have to hear even ONE word from that slimeball?
    He speaks for no one.
