Hagel, 8 other GOP senators to pass on RNC convention.

The Hill reports Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-NE) is “skipping the GOP convention.” Along with Hagel, the following conservative senators are also taking a pass: Pat Roberts (R-KS), Ted Stevens (R-AK), Elizabeth Dole (R-NC), Gordon Smith (R-OR), Susan Collins (R-ME), Larry Craig (R-ID), Wayne Allard (R-CO), and John Sununu (R-NH). Roger Wicker (R-MS) is undecided about whether he will attend.

Chuck Hagel, Pat Roberts, Ted Stevens, Elizabeth Dole, Gordon Smith, Susan Collins, Larry Craig, Wayne Allard, John Sununu, Roger Wicker.

They all are a hell of a lot smarter than I thought! Why throw money down a rat hole (pun intended). Twenty dollars to a glass of warm pee says none of them would be re-elected, convention or not!

  4. stateofthedivision Says:

I think they're worried about accidently getting within camera shot of Cheney or Bush.

  5. ralph the wonder llama Says:

You know what's interesting about that list?

All of those Senators are either running for reelection or are retiring.

Apparently, there might be something toxic about the Republican brand. Normally a politician running for reelection would seek the support of his or her colleagues at a national convention.

    Not this year.

Norm Coleman is probably pissed because he HAS to go, since it's in his home state and all.

  7. tarazan Says:

These Senators are vulnerable in their states to lose in the coming elections in November 4th.
So to stay away from the GOP Convention is a big plus for these senators.
Simply they do not want to be seen there at the Convention associating themselves with Bush/Cheney policies or McCain's drive for the presidency.
    They are playing it safe.

    Think rezko will chime in?

    Do some damn research........

    A $14 Million "Favor"?

McCain's ad opens by turning Obama's housing problem attack back on Obama. The narrator says Chicago real estate developer Tony Rezko, one of Obama's "biggest fundraisers" helped Obama buy his "million-dollar mansion" by purchasing property that Obama couldn't afford. The ad goes on to charge that Obama helped Rezko receive "political favors" including "$14 million from taxpayers," and it points out that Rezko is now a convicted felon.

It's untrue that Rezko got "$14 million from taxpayers" for himself, as the ad seems to be saying. The "help" to which it refers is a one-page letter Obama signed in October 1998 urging the city housing commissioner to support an apartment project for low-income senior citizens. A copy went to the state housing development authority. The 97-unit Cottage View Terrace, which opened in 2002, was funded with taxpayer money, and Tony Rezko was involved in developing the project.

But the deal did not put $14 million into Rezko's pocket. That figure represents the total development cost for the project. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Rezko and his partner, Allison Davis, netted about $855,000. That's not pocket change, but it's a far cry from $14 million. And the tenants of the building benefited too.

Moreover, the ad's claim that Obama wrote the letter as a favor to Rezko is without factual support. Both men deny that Rezko asked Obama to write them, and Obama says his district office frequently sent letters supporting "worthy" community projects, so routinely that "I wasn't even aware that we wrote the letter." Rezko's attorney, Joseph Duffy, told the Sun-Times in 2007 that "Mr. Rezko never spoke with, nor sought a letter from, Senator Obama in connection with that project."

From whom? The only OFFICIAL voter support will be done on a Tuesday in November (I will admit I don't remember if it is the first or second Tuesday and I am too lazy to look it up but I am sure I will be enlightened soon). Notice I didn't say count as the votes cast and the votes counted the last two times differed significantly. Actually, the statement may be correct in that all the dead brained republicans (the ones who populate most of the polls) have no clue as to the significance. (sigh) I can't believe that even when the trolls kick themselves in the ass, we have to explain to them why their but is sore.

Trippy, the irony is that while you trumpet Republicans' embrace of the conservative" label, any Republican Senator who is in a tight race to keep his seat, or whose party successor is in a tight race to keep his seat, has decided to skip the big festivities next month.

Your loud-mouthed, bad-breathed cacophony of conservativeness only masks an ugly truth that the Republican brand is toxic. The only reason McSame is proudly declaring his conservative bona fides (at least, whenever he's in front of a hand-picked right-wing crowd) is because the Far Right doesn't trust all his maverickiness, and he knows he's toast without them. So he jettisons any "maverick" stances he's ever held in a desperate attempt to keep the christian conservatives from bolting, and the only thing that's keeping the American public from finding out and sending his poll numbers plummeting is the love affair he's cultivated with the corporate media.

Heh heh heh. It may turn out that McSame's undoing is his insincere pandering to the "social conservatives".

    Enjoy election day, Tripstain.

I think you protest Obama/rezko too much. It’s clearly a corrupt real estate deal.

You want to talk corrupt land deal here is an ACTUAL CORRUPT LAND DEAL:

Sen. John McCain's ties to the real estate development arm of his home state's power company continued to prove nettlesome today, as a newspaper reported that McCain secured millions in federal funds for a land acquisition program that benefited the firm.

Earlier this month, The Washington Post reported that McCain had championed a deal to trade valuable federal land in northern Arizona to a rancher who then enlisted Tempe-based SunCor Development to build as many as 12,000 homes on the property.

SunCor's president, Steve Betts, is a longtime McCain supporter who has raised more than $100,000 for the senator's presidential bid.

Today's report, in USA Today, revealed that McCain inserted $14.3 million into a 2003 defense bill to buy land around Luke Air Force Base. SunCor sought the provision as the largest of about 50 landowners near the base. SunCor representatives, upset with a state law that restricted development around Luke, met with McCain's staff to lobby for funding, John Ogden, SunCor's president at the time, told the paper.

The Air Force later paid SunCor $3 million for 122 acres near the base, according to the report. It was the highest single land transaction of the private lots purchased by the government -- three times the county's assessed value and twice the military's estimated value.

McCain's got corrupt down to a fine art..

    Just like:

    Stevens
    Delay
    Frist
    Taft
    Rove
    Noe
    Libby
    Cheney
    Bush

Perhaps the GOP is having a secret contest to see who can get indicted for the "MOST" and "WORST" crimes!!!!

You have already established how pathetically ignorant you are. What is left?
