Okay-

We agree that the music will have little or no impact on the development of responsible citizens. (see Judas priest/JAMC discussion above)
We agree that supporting the family is the best way to assure that kids get a fair shot in life. (see same)
So... we agree to stop scape-goating the music industry and put our efforts into strengthening social safetynets so that the poor and disadvantaged have a shot?

I'm glad to hear you're on board, Tracy!

Tracy~
Once again your logic leaves me reeling...
It was also for the many in the hip hop community that think that it’s OK for fathers to dump their children, be a gangbanger, and degrate women.

Yes everyone that listens to the hip hop garbage of 50 Cent and Ludicous, needs to listen to Michelle in what she was talking about, i.e. a strong family and a father that takes care of his family. Did you even hear her speech? I doesn’t sound like it.

I have some songs you need to listen to that would qualify as evidence. BTW if those in the hip hop community, and I am talking about the music industury here i.e the producers, actually did care about those things they wouldn’t promote this garbage.

But then you say its not really the music (after all, you listened to Judas Priest and you turned out GREEEAAT!), but a lack of parenting that leads to these social ills... so your solution to combat them is...

to attack the music again?

If we agree that 'this is the devil's music' is an old and tired argument with no merit and that there are other factors that have much more impact on the forming of strong and productive citizens, I wonder why you are unwilling to support young mothers and fathers in the inner-cities with jobs, schools and social networks and so eager to point out that 'lots of good parents' like you blame the rap music?

Actually, I don't wonder... you do it 'cause its easy and familiar, even though you know its wrong.

I wonder how many Republicans like crooner Frank Sinatra. An exemplar American, and awesome singer, isn't?

Well, one of the hits of him is the song "Mack the Knife", based in the character of "The Threepenny Opera":

A moritat (from mori meaning "deadly" and tat meaning "deed") is a medieval version of the murder ballad performed by strolling minstrels, . In The Threepenny Opera, the moritat singer with his street organ introduces and closes the drama with the tale of the deadly Mackie Messer, or Mack the Knife, a character based on the dashing highwayman Macheath in John Gay's The Beggar's Opera. The Brecht-Weill version of the character was far more cruel and sinister, and has been transformed into a modern anti-hero.

The opera opens with the moritat singer comparing Macheath (unfavorably) with a shark, and then telling tales of his robberies, murders, rapes, and arson

Probably many of you've heard it and even hummed its melody. Well, let's take a closer look to the lyrics:

"...
Jenny Towler was found
With a knife in her chest
And on the wharf walks Mack the Knife,
Who knows nothing about all this.
..."

It praises a murder, and a skilled murderer. And isn't rap.

And about Sinatra's personal life? Well, as everybody knows, he was frequently associated with mafia bosses, including the infamours Lucky Luciano. And his moral authority? Well, just read a little about his Rat Pack friends. Booze, night life, women...

Tracy-
Yeah, do you get it yet?
Good.
'Cause your original argument was that those in the 'hip hop community' as you called it think its okay to 'dump their children, be gangbangers and degrate (sic) women'
My argument is that hip-hop has nothing to do with any of those things...
glad you agree with me Tracy!

Tracy~
Ever hear what people said about Judas Priest and Metallica?
Ever think that old people just don't get it?
Ever consider killing anyone 'cause of Judas Priest or Metallica?
Didn't think so...

I'd make a silly muscle car joke but... In the interest of others please consider less agressive music while driving. Music has been suggested to have a strong influence upon behavior.

There are many good parents that would tend to disagree if you don’t.

Ahhh, good. Call me a bad parent again, Tracy... that works out SO well...

Many good parents thought that Rock and Roll would be the end of society, that Chamber Music would be the end of society, that Socrates would be the end of society- hence my posts above... many 'good parent's were wrong.

My mother listened to 'The Jesus and Mary Chain' with me when I was growing up and neither of us did drugs or started drinking or had children we didn't want or couldn't support... why is that?

If its too loud, you're too old Tracy.

Deal with it.

What bugs me even more than those unwilling to substantiate their ideas but willing to chastise others for such is those too whacked to follow a simple exchange in which turns are taken sort of like speaking via radio. Does it bug you?

I think Elvis is to blame. Oh wait it was that crazy British invasion stuff. No No it was heavy metal or was it the negative influences of punk. Well then again it might have been that godless R&B. Once that evil recorder and harpsicord stuff started kids have never been the same.

Tracy~
Good on ya for tackling the pressing social issues of our times at the root... RAP MUSIC.

Bum, bum, bah buuummmm....

If we could eliminate the scourge of rap music from our society everything would be perfect, like it was in the 1970's before rap came along.

Tracy__5 Says:
“Tracy, until you bring some game, you have no right to be disappointed in anyone else here. Least of all our friend unbelievable.”

I have already pointed out that you haven’t provided ANY evidence that I am racist and neither has unbelievable. What else do you need to prove that you are a liar?

Tracy, the evidence is in your statements, and it is legion here at TP. Your patterns are well known and your attitudes are clear.

Just because you pretend not to understand what everyone points out about your posts doesn't mean that we're lying or that we haven't produced any evidence.

My question is, why are you here?

Tracy__5 Says:
#175

“You were very careful to claim that 50 Cent and Ludicris had “absolutely nothing” in common with Michelle Obama, a statement which is patently absurd.”

I was referring to their backgrounds and how they were raised which is what Michelle’s ENTIRE speech was about, i.e. how she worked hard played by the rules and became sucessful. YOU are the one who is once again pointing out their race.

When I asked you what they had in common with Michelle Obama, you said "absolutely nothing" yet you have never explained why then you linked them with her.

The possibility exists that you have no coherent train of thought (if you do, you're certainly keeping it to yourself) but most people, when they make a connection between two people or two groups of people, they have an easily discernible reason.

You had none. And you as much as said that it was a coincidence that both Mrs. Obama and the two artists you mentioned were black. Now you claim it was their "background". What does that mean in this context?

“…make a statement that is clearly but not overtly racist, then accuse others of being racists when they identify the racist element in your statement.”

There is no racist element in my statement(s). Others here are just being obsurdly politically correct plain and simple.

It's been explained to you ad nauseum what was racist about it. You're obviously either too stupid to recognize it, or you're deliberately fighting the realization.

“Over-used and lazy, Tracy. Try something else.”

Yeah right, you are just being bigoted.

Nope. You already tried that. Try something ELSE this time.

Sheesh.
