Amnesty International brings Gitmo to St. Paul.»

gitmo.gifGuantanamo Bay is coming to St. Paul,” courtesy of Amnesty International. The human rights group is bringing their “live-size model of a maximum security Guantanamo Bay cell” to the Twin Cities. Visitors will be encouraged to experience the cell and push the Bush administration to shut down Guantanamo. Some details about the exhibit:

The cell is a replica of a Camp 5 cell. It brings to life the harsh realities of illegal detention to concerned citizens and highlights the human rights violations that Guantanamo symbolizes. The cell includes a steel toilet, florescent lights and a sliding metal door. Detainees reported being held in isolation in similar cells for as long as 23 hours.

Put Chimpy and Cheney in that damn thing and roll it over the side of a cliff ……………

  3. misshusseinmolly Says:

And will there be a waterboarding attraction to go along with this? How about a few snarling dogs?

Seriously, I think the cell will be enough to counter all the GOP claims of this “Caribbean resort” where detainees are kept. But it would be nice to see all the accessories as well.

“My friends, I could only wish and pray for a cell this big and this nice when I was a POW forty years ago at the Hanoi Hilton when I was a POW, my friends. This cell could have a table in it and, my friends, I didn’t have a table, or a kitchen, or, my friends, a kitchen table.”

    PEACE

And the nightly urine shower on the holy book? Does it highlight the feeding tube? What about the beatings? So much to model…

  6. Buckie Boy Says:

OOH, OOH, me first…wait, what the heck…where’s the water torture exhibit?

    Crap, let down again.

  7. 49erDem Says:

Why aren’t those a-holes in “Recreate ‘68″ going to the Twin Cities?

  8. dfletcher Says:

    Very nice.

The Atlantic ocean is a huge buffer for us. It shields us from really seeing details of what is happening. The few photos of atrocities are not widely shown, and the government is actively stopping photos of soldiers returning who were KIA.

Some of us though actively search for photos of Baghdad, of soldiers in action, of the natives of Iraq, just to see what we have done / are doing there. It gives us nightmares.

It’s harder to ignore a giant orange prison cell though. It would be totally sweet though if they could have this show in the parking lot at the RNC.

  9. NOLIESPLEASE Says:

IF WE CAN ONLY GET BUSH CHANEY AND THE NEXT IDIOT IN LINE MCSHAME ALL TOGETHER AND PUT THEM INTO THE CELL FOR THREE WAY IN THE BOX. IT WOULD BE INTERESTIING TO SEE WHO WOULD BE THE ODD MAN OUT…LOL.

LOOK AT IT FIRST HAND AMERICA!!! I BELIEVE IN PUNISHMENT AFTER A TRIAL. I BELIEVE IN DIGNITY FOR EACH HUMAN EVEN IF THEY ARE SCUM OF THE EARTH.

I WILL HOLD MYSELF TO A HIGHER STANDARD!! I AM AMERICAN

Looks like a Port-a-Potty, so keep Larry Craig clear.

  11. raynman Says:

How many of the networks will walk the two blocks from the Ex to view this, much less feature it on the news?

  12. Guido the Loving OBGYN Says:

    I love it.

  13. Shayne Says:

We’ll never see this in the MSM.

    I would like to add:

Or a toilet, friends let me tell you a toilet is a real luxury and I… uh-oh speaking of toilets.

Good job Spencer’s Mom! I love it!

  15. Yankeluh Says:

Rove will have it spray painted and call it the new GOP push for affordable housing.

  16. Chuck Feney Says:

Cheney already has at least 2 of these cells: one he uses as his underground bunker and the other as his man-sized safe. And, since they were made by KBR (former subsidiary)of Halliburton) he got them at a discount in a no-bid deal.

  17. Bob Says:

How sad, apropos, and disgusting: bush’s legacy symbolized by a holding cell. Someone should relocate a dilapidated Gulf Coast dwelling for the icing on the cake.

  18. Daddy Love Says:

There are no homeless in America as long as we have nice cells to keep people in.

  19. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

Good for them. I would also like to see some street theater of people standing around dressed like tortured prisoners.

Because they will only go where Rush tells them to go and Rush has not told them to go to the Republican convention.

  21. robert verdi Says:

was the cell designed as a punishment isolation cell for detainees who attacked guards or others in the camp?
