Day three of Democratic convention drew more than 24 million viewers.

Neilsen reports, “More than 24 million people watched the third night of the 2008 Democratic National Convention — a 7.5% decrease from 26 million viewers on day two of the convention. … In comparison to day three of the 2004 convention, which drew almost 18 million viewers, the audience for day three of the 2008 convention was still significantly larger (up by a third to 24 million viewers).”

The latest Gallup Daily Tracking poll, after having the candidates basically tied for the last few weeks, now has Obama up 48 to 42, and this isn’t even the post-convention poll. I’d say the convention is going well.

  6. Buckie Boy says:

And a third more are going to be voting for Dems this Nov.

You know, all us who have cell phones and no home phone…the ones the polls can’t call.

The only Repuke I know is also voting Obama, he thinks John is too old and too old school.

But, I’ll be even more proud on November 5th, after we’ve elected this great man as our next president.

I was one of the watchers, but I felt cheated out of the roll call. Not only was it conducted early, before I could get home from work, but it wasn’t even completely conducted.

I understand why it was done this way (political theater), but I always enjoyed seeing the top Democrats from each state get their moment in the spotlight (plus, it was always fun to hear how each state advertised itself — I don’t think Idaho has EVER failed to mention potatoes!).

Tonight, while being more political theater, will be good. You can bet I’ll be watching.

  9. 49erDem says:

Word from Denver is there’s a huge line and they’ll fill Invesco easily with 75 to 80K people.

This politics crap’s been a GREAT investment for marketers of shitty soft-drinks and industrial spies who collaborated with the fascisti to break the law and snoop on US citizens…

If these conventions were such a good deal for the parties, you’d think they could figger out a way to sponsor ‘em without selling out to the phucquing CorpoRats…

    I haven’t watched a runny minute of it, and I won’t.

Some statisticians are saying that you need to add 5 to 8 points to any given poll to account for this, especially since the Obama campaign knows the technology. They’ll even be texting people to remind them to vote.

I know a few Republicans who are going to vote for Obama. Even though they usually vote for whatever candidate goes their way on God, guns, and gays, they are feeling the economic pinch bigtime and they are sick of the warmongering.

All McCain has to do is continue with the “bomb Iran” theme and continue demonstrating how out of touch he is with the middle class and their pain, and he will be chasing his base over to Obama in droves.

  13. 49erDem says:

    librul: “I haven’t watched a runny minute of it, and I won’t.”

To each, his own. All you’re expected to do is vote for the candidate most likely to get you closest to the public policy you want for our society.

I will watch Barack’s speech, but it’s hard to leave the huge money “suck-up” surrounding the event. A $50 million event, sponsored by 140 corporations? It’s hard to stomach.

I wasn’t here last night to comment on Obama’s nomination being made official, but I left a thought on-topic after reading RHF’s derailing post and everyone’s subsequent postings displaying their anger, and find myself worried that TP will continue to do nothing about the extremist, apparently racist troll with overbearing wishful thinking.

On-topic, I can’t wait for tonight. Even more so, I can’t wait for next week, where we can really rub the failures in the faces of the neocons during their exclusive party of celebrating the damage they’ve done to our country. I think we’ll do well to seize the moment.

The Obama campaign has done an excellent job of reaching people in as many different ways as they can. Text messaging and e-mails, to be sure, but also old fashioned telephoning and doorbelling.

Here in North Carolina, we have early voting available. We text and e-mail Obama supporters to make sure they know about early voting and where the polling places are. We also ring lots of doorbells (that’s one of the things I’ll be doing) and hand out information to voters as to where and how they can vote early. This is a battleground state, and the lines at the polls will be very long.

Yeah, I don’t have a land line at all, just a cell phone. I haven’t needed a land line for years now.

  19. Shayne says:

I heard yesterday that McCain has NO ground game. Obama has volunteers every where and is still recruiting more to get out the vote.

I finally did get my first call for a poll and I took the time to answer it but most young families with kids to take to soccer and gymnastics and all the other responsibilities would never have time to answer. Half of them don’t even answer their land lines.

  24. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

It’s going to be interesting to see what kind of an audience the Republicans get for their “rich white man’s” convention. I suspect it might be something like the voting ratio of Democrat to Republican. That’s why I am not worried about the lying polls. If the Democrats outvote the Republicans 4-1, the election is going to be out of bounds for the Republicans to steal.

Actually, according to the Republicans that will show how badly it is going. Because they (the Republicans) are saying he should get a 15 point boost in the polls.

So, I say that George McCain should get a 20 point boost in the polls. Then when he doesn’t, I can point to how disappointing his performance was.

Speaking of polls, the Jerusalem Post shows 63% of Americans support an Israeli attack on Iran, should diplomacy fail.

The Israel Project commissioned the poll. They have 22 representatives at the DNC, pushing their latest marketing campaigns. Their campaign on the Iranian threat says, “the time to act is now”.

The Israel Project’s advisory board. It’s made up of:

Sen. Evan Bayh (IN), Sen. Ben Cardin (MD), Sen. Saxby Chambliss (GA), Sen. Tom Coburn (OK), Sen. Norm Coleman (MN), Sen. Susan Collins (ME), Sen. Judd Gregg (NH), Sen. Joe Lieberman (CT), Sen. Gallup has Obama 48 to 42, USA today Gallup has Obama up 47 to 45, Hotline FD has Obama up 44 to 40 and CBS/Washington Post has Obama up 49 to 45 Rasmussen and CNN have them tied so NO the polls do NOT have Obama down. What a tool you are.

The democratic convention is a home run. 24 million viewers is very impressive. On the other side, the Republicans will be lucky to have 24 thousand viewers. I mean, who the hell wants to watch McCain fall asleep again and all the neocons speak like neo-nazi propagandists??

That’s because there’s substance here, not lies and broken promises. That’s because Dems have a candidate and VP that finally are addressing the real issues. That’s because America is hurting from all the looting, war and cheating from the Republican Party.

Pure and simple, it’s just good entertainment. Let’s see the Republican’s top this next week. I doubt they’ll even come close.

I’m with you spencer. Also, being a Denver native I am just “busting buttons” being proud of this city. This has been an incredible week – and tomorrow morning we’ll get to work to put an end to the neocons and their “1000 year plan” for dominance.

The phrase around town today is “Barack-n-Roll” – ya gotta love it.
