Loyal Bushie: Palin pick is ‘disrespectful to the office of the presidency.’

In his Political Playbook column, Politico reporter Mike Allen reports that one Bush loyalist is extremely troubled by McCain’s pick of Sarah Palin:

BIGGEST QUESTION ABOUT PALIN: If it said something admirable about President Bush that he chose a running mate who would be more helpful in governing than in campaigning, what does it say about Senator McCain that he did the opposite? One of the most loyal Bushies calls the selection “disrespectful to the office of the presidency.”

Update In her press briefing yesterday, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said, "The White House is energized and excited by this choice. President Bush called Governor Palin just before his meeting with President Kikwete of Tanzania. He said that the McCain-Palin ticket is very strong. He wished her good luck, told her that she will be a fantastic vice presidential candidate, and that he is looking forward to a great victory in November."

This still doesn’t explain how Bush, himself, isn’t disrespectful to the Office he occupies, or Cheney’s for that matter…

If Loyal Bushies wish to go on diatribes about who is and isn’t respectful of Public Service, they need to take some much needed inner reflection.

Bush didn’t get his hand on Palin’s tush while she wore a beach volleyball bikini. Now that would be respectful for the George W. Bush Presidency!

For the Bush White House to regain respect, it will need gallons of betadine, cases of Freehdhem, and a sound flushing. Say goodbye to George W. as his ship swirls around the bowl…

Well, having just been over to a couple of righty websites, to have a good laugh, let me sum it up w/ some of your fellow GOOPers’ own words…

Tell us, if she had put her hat in the ring to be president two years ago, would she have stayed in the race until the end and won the nomination, or been drummed out early because she lacks qualifications?

    ~backup

No, you silly twit. It just so happens that sometimes it is interesting to find out what the opinion of people on the inside is. And in this case, McCain’s choice is only defended -tooth and nail- by the kool-aid drinkers.

Anyone with a functioning brain is not so sure about the wisdom of picking someone who is under a state ethics investigation.

And as for the experience she would bring to the job, there are (obviously, duh!) questions about that. By anyone, that is- but the aforementioned 23%ers & kool-aid drinkers:

John McCain was aiming to make history with his pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, and historians say he succeeded.
Presidential scholars say she appears to be the least experienced, least credentialed person to join a major-party ticket in the modern era.

    Scholars question Palin credentials

  60. ArtZ says:

It was bothering me, but I finally figured out who Sarah Palin reminds me of…
On the sitcom Will and Grace, there was a character, Karen Walker, who was played by Megan Mullally. She played a milliionairess who worked for Grace.
She was noted for her shrill/squeaky voice.

Sarah Palin is a dead ringer.

She will get some lip service here and there from some fundies, well paid for, for sure, but deep down, a huge majority of them would not vote for a woman any more than they would a black, no matter how much she agrees with them.
In bible thumper land, women ride in the back seat. period.

This will keep more fundies home than it will bring hillary people to vote for mccain..

  63. Marie says:

Shayne, I am somewhat reluctant to repeat this, but rumors are all over Alaskaa that the baby is not hers, but actually belongs to her 16 y/o daughter who was out of school for a few months with “mono.”
I cannot verify this anywhere, so whoever reads this should take it with a grain of salt – and know that it is just rumor.

Perhaps dark rumors such as this are not limited only to rightwingers against Michelle and Barack Obama.

I have to go away from the TV when it overwhelms me with frustration and anger. During the week I listen to daytime liberal radio at work. Ed Schultz, Thom Hartmann and Rachel Maddow help keep me in balance.

  68. tom says:

Palin was married 8/29/88 and her son was born 4/20/89. If he was not a month premature, he was conceived before marriage.

That’s funny! In and of itself, it doesn’t matter a bit to me. However, when I pair it with a point made in an article that I read about her, it makes a big difference. That point was that she and her husband eloped so that their parents wouldn’t have to pay for a big wedding.

My question: why even try to gloss over such a thing and try to rationalize an elopement? Who cares? Or, more correctly, who should care?

This is closely related to the growing skepticism about whether or not she is the mother of the child born this last April. There is gathering evidence that she wasn’t pregnant and that Bristol (her 17-year-old daughter) was absent from school for months with “mono”. Again, who should care?

The real question is why does she compelled to cover up these personal matters by lying. Something is just not right with this woman and I am trusting that it will start coming out in the media.

I think it best of Obama and Biden totally ignore Palin right now. She is one of those trainwrecks that is self-evident and will collapse under its own weight anyway.

  69. Chocolate Jesus says:

    >Bush called Governor Palin …
    >He said that the McCain-Palin
    > ticket is very strong.

Didnt he also say he knew where saddams WMD were?

According to Pat Robertson, Bush also said “we wont have any casualties in iraq”…

so do you think Pat Robertson is a liar or Bush’s judgement is just terrible?

  70. And the beat goes on says:

Listening to CNN (Blehhh) but a reporter said the McInsane powers-that-be are kicking around some ideas about the convention including making it a huge service (telethon) activity for Gustav. My bet is that’s one way for rhe RNC to up their donations!

And it’s understandable why Bush crime family approves Palin — find tne most highly UNQUALIFIED person you can for the job and run with it. Sarah Palin met their job description. Think she will be ready for the Sept. 26th debate or do you think thet will ask for a postponement???

  71. Shayne says:

Marie, the first odd thing I heard about this pregnancy is that she was in Texas to give a speech when her water broke. She gave the speech anyway and then boarded a plane back to Alaska because she didn’t want the baby born in Texas. And this would have been two months before her due date. So they’d have us believe that she took the time to give the speech then get to the airport and fly home on her fifth pregnancy with an infant, even if she didn’t know the baby had down syndrome, likely to need neonatal care because he was two months early. I think she believes she can outfox everybody.

That’s a curious point you make. I “image” Googled Palin last night to get a better look at her (she is a pretty gal) and she supposedly had a baby earlier this year. I saw no indication that she was “with child” in any of those pics. Since most of those pics were fairly recent (based on her very limited time in any office beyond mayor or City Council), I find that odd.

  75. Shayne says:

Originally they were talking about postponing the Republican convention because of the hurricane supposedly. I’d guess more because of lack of interest. Then they were saying most likely W wouldn’t attend because of the hurricane, yeah sure.

My guess is after Obama’s speech they were so scared that McCain threw Palin like a Hail Mary pass to try and get people interested enough to show up at the convention.

    2. Who does George W. Bush want to attack, given his press on Congress to re-declare war on al Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated organizations? Who are the mysterious affiliated groups in George W.’s sights?

    3. How many top Bushies are on vacation as Hurricane Gustav heads into the Gulf? Three years ago, Card, Rice, Bush, Townsend, and Cheney were taking time off. Joe Hagin was the man in charge of the White House’s Katrina response.

Consider New York magazine: “Obama Agrees to Roll-Call Vote for Clinton. Does That Make Him a Sissy?”

You just proved the biased nature of the “media attack” is against Obama & Hillary. It’s not just against her it’s against Obama also. The media basically called the next potential President of the United States a “SISSY”. If that isn’t bashing, insulting,”throwing a press grenade”,and biased I don’t know what is…..

As much as that might be true, you have to be careful about that line of attack. By simply saying that she’s there not because she’s qualified and because she’s a woman you play right into the hands of the GOP who are saying that Democrats are the sexist ones – see the primaries for proof. Unfortunately the mainstream media made this possible with the constant sexism during the primaries and without any resistance from the Obama supporters and the DNC. Now if you want Obama to win you have to be careful and check in with whether your response might in fact be a sexist one or perceived as such even if you don’t mean it to be. The MSM and the trolls are ones commenting on Ms Palin’s looks as thought they somehow qualify her for the, uh, “position”.

As far as McStain being able to pick off fence sitters in this manner, I think you give him too much cred. He doesn’t even know which state he’s in half the time.

The more regular folks learn about “the lovely Sara” the more turned off they’ll be. Go check out the righty sites… a lot of their posters are already absolutely incensed at this silly choice. Aw geez, pete… this is just the first weekend.

After it turned out that Edwards WAS having an affair, I was stunned. Not so much because he was diddling someone other than Mrs Edwards, but because he was arrogant enough to do so while running for President… can you imagine the magnitude of fiasco it would have been if he had been the Official Dem candidate and that came out? What could he have possibly been thinking, or drinking, for that matter?

If it does turn out to be Sarah’s daughter’s baby… can you imagine the circus that’s going to erupt over that? Like I said before, I can’t see Palin making to the election. Didn’t McCain’s handlers vet her at all?

I agree about the speech. It’s a gift Obama has.

Most Democratic Candidates had good Ideas, but Obama is BEST at selling them. If he is going to have any chance of fixing the mess Bush left us, he’s going to Need to Persuade the American People to Back his plans.

There’s a whole Lot of cynicism, disallusionment, and Vested Interests that will stand in the Way of the Change we Need,

  176. Jay11 says:

Regarding momentous political speeches, a small observation.

The fact that they always slip in an anecdote about “a single mom in Ohio” or an “auto worker in Michigan that took a pay cut”…usually it rings hollow, seems contrived. Obama, whether it’s true or not, delivers those anecdotes as if he remembers his conversations with each of these everyday Americans. Another of Obama’s talents.

I also would have liked more time spent on our single biggest challenge as a nation. How, in more detail, will we divorce ourselves from the current fossil fuel paradigm? Just mentioning wind, solar, clean coal and nuclear is not enough. They must have detailed plans for the new “Manhattan project” for transitioning our current energy infrastructure.

  177. Jay11 says:

Yes, Palin’s experience vs. Obama’s. I’m sure the Obama campaign is shaking in its proverbial shoes. Go back to wingnutosphere where those fantasies fly.

  178. pete says:

I’m not sure about the Edwards thing TROS. It would have been interesting to see the public’s reaction to head to head comparison between McCain cheating and leaving vs. Edward’s straying then returning.

But, if one starts the “what if” game one would be forced to consider Hillary’s chances if she had divorced Bill’s cheatin’ butt. I think she would have locked the female vote and a good many hen-pecked husbands! LOL!

All that being said, I agree that Ms. Palin could prove to be horribly embarrassing to a campaign which already excels at embarrassing itself. Who knows? Maybe there will be a role call at the RNC and Bill Kristol will be the nominee? Anything can happen in “Backwards Reichworld”.

  218. spencers mom says:

Please bear with me, my tinfoil hat is itchy tonight.

According to the story, Palin was pregnant, had prenatal testing (probably amnioncentisis) and discovered that her unborn child had Down’s Syndrome. Baby was due in early May

Here is a pic of her on Super Tuesday, Feb 5th.

    http://www.adn.com/politics/v-gallery/story/339576.html?/politics/v-enlarge/story/339576-a339575-t3.html

Now remember, this woman was one week shy of her 44th birthday, and had given firth four times before. Does she look pregnant? At all?

On March 6th, she publicly announced that she was pregnant. Everyone who worked around her on a daily basis was shocked, and no one, repeat, no one could believe that she was pregnant.

    showing.http://www.adn.com/front/story/336402.html

Now, supposedly, during the time leading up to the birth, Palin’s 17-year-old daughter, Bristol, was out of school with for three, four or five months, depending on where you read.

On April 17th, Palin was in Texas when her water supposedly broke. Even knowing that she was carrying a special needs child, and that this was her 5th birth (labor/delivery usually shortens each time) she delivered a 30 minute speech, then got on a commercial airline (Alaska Air) and traveled 10 hours back to Alaska, and then 50 miles to the hospital.

I know of no airlines that would even allow a woman in her 8th month to travel, certainly not without a note from her physician, and I highly doubt that a responsible OB would give such a note to a woman of Palin’s age carrying a special needs child, let alone allow her to travel after her water broke.

A 17-year-old having her first baby could, however, take 12 – 36 hours after water breaks to deliver.

Trig was born at about 6:00 a.m. the next day, and Palin was back to work three days later.

Now, I’m not saying it’s true, but it raises issues about her decision making ability at the very least.

Here’s a link with the family photo from March 2008. Check out daughter Bristol on the right:

    http://forums.doghouseboxing.com/lofiversion/index.php/t130064.html

Seems the National Enquirer is looking into the story, and as we know from the Edwards/Hunter story, they can be quite thorough.

Okay, enough. Taking off said foil hat now.

Again, I’m not saying it’s true, not even say I necessarily believe it, but a 44-year-old woman is considered a high-risk pregnancy regardless of her health, and it is highly suspect that she traveled just 3 – 4 weeks before her due date.

If her family did choose to keep the pregnancy quiet and raise the baby as their child, it’s something that’s been done probably millions of time throughout history, and that’s certainly not the point.

The point is, did they collude to lie about it, possibly commit insurance fraud (there must have been records of the amnio, ultrasounds, prenatal care, etc.) and even falsify the birth certificate?

And here’s another twist I’ll just throw out there… it is unusual, if the daughter was the birthmother, for a healthy teen would have a Down’s baby, which is a genetic birth defect that can occur due to advanced maternal age or from blood relative inbreeding, among other things. The oldest son, Track, enlisted in the Army on Sept. 11th, 2007, which would have been around the time the pregnancy would have been confirmed. Just connecting the dots…

For the sake of their family, I hope none of this is true, but if any media outlet will dig for the truth, the National Enquirer will!

    PEACE

but if any media outlet will dig for the truth, the National Enquirer will!

I hope you are just kidding around here. The National Enquirer is not a news source you should take seriously.

  227. Wayne A. Schneider says:

You’d be surprised how good the reporting of the National Enquirer can be. Don’t be surprised when you learn that George and Laura are getting divorced as soon as he’s out of office.

  228. spencers mom says:

It was the National Enquirer that ferreted out the Edwards scandal, and everyone dismissed it at first. But you know what? They were right!

This is just the type of story they go after best.

And no, I don’t read it, never did read the Edwards stuff, but I do knew they broke the story first!

    PEACE

  229. spencers mom says:

Also, the National Enquirer has been sued, successfully, so many times that they have teams of lawyers and researchers vetting stories before they go to print.

Unlike many, many of the media outlets we all know…

Point taken. The National Enquirer is one of those things I read when in line at the grocery store, just for a laugh! So they actually DO news!?!

I think Sarah is going to find out what the real world is like. I think she’s been getting away with spreading bullshit and maybe she could get away with that in Alaska. But we’re not all a bunch of hicks. It’s time that smirk was wiped off her face.

“So? We have a man who has been unbalanced by his lust for power, and Believes he’s a war-hero, and a woman who thinks that Jesus will forgive all our mistakes. They are running against a brilliant young orator paired with one of the most respected politicians in the Senate.”

Both of whom also believe Jesus forgives our mistakes! Well,
at least there’s still the part about McCain being out of touch!

Sen. Obama is an impressive intellect

    Teleprompted or unteleprompted?
    <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Which one was he when he was Editor then President of Harvard Law Review? You are a joke

  237. EugeneDebs says:

    Potfry Says:

Not at all. I’m saying that anybody on the left who questions Palin’s experience needs to defend Obama’s.

Really, is his experience better than Palin’s? Explain how.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Yes he worked as a State Senator doing REAL politics while Palin was mayor of some Podunk town. You get more executive experience as the assistant night manager of McDonalds than as a mayor of a town of 5 thousand. He is in the Senate working on national and international political policies while she has been governor of a state without much population and tremendous natural resources. I wouldnt say she has ZERO experience but not much and certainly not as much NOR the quality of experience Obama has gotten. He worked as a community organizer that is HANDS ON GET THINGS DONE EXPERIENCE in the big cities.

  238. EugeneDebs says:

    Potfry Says:

Well troll, what I meant by impressive intellect is that Sen. Obama has proven himself to be a thoughtful, intelligent, person. With, or without, a teleprompter.

Mainly with. Without, he’s a deer in headlights.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Says the MORON with a keyboard. You imbecilic wingnuts are so unaccustom to THINKING and THOUGHTFULLNESS you see it as a weakness. That is because you are so stupid that to you thinking is listening to some rightwing radio screechmonkey tell you what to believe. You are worthless and ignorant

  239. EugeneDebs says:

    Potfry Says:

Cmon, Jay. Member? He’s been campaigning for 2/3s of his time in the Senate. He’s demonstrated on at least one occasion that he’s not sure what committee’s he’s actually on.

    Please, no more embarrassing links.
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

You are such a sad joke. He has missed less votes than McShortbus. You are humiliating yourself with such astonishing ignorance.

Who’s your favorite weather-predicting rodent? That’s right! It’s Punxsutawney Phil, the groundhog that totally ROCKS!!

Punxsutawney Borough in Pennsylvania has basically the same population as Wasilla, Alaska, 6,000+ souls. The current mayor there in Phil’s backyard is James Wehrle. I don’t know the first thing about James Wehrle, but will assume he’s a good man and a fine, respected mayor, and I wish him many successful years in office.

QUESTION FOR YA: With no disrespect meant towards Mayor Wehrle, would you want Mr. Wehrle a heartbeat away from the presidency this coming January 20th? Would you want Mr. Wehrle staring down Vladimir Putin at the negotiating table? Would you want Mr. Wehrle’s hand on the nook-u-ler trigger?

PUNXSUTAWNEY PALIN!!! PUNXSUTAWNEY PALIN!!! PUNXSUTAWNEY PALIN!!!

  242. Badger says:

When a mouse sees a nice big unguarded piece of Cheese just sitting out there for the easy taking, it should think of one thing only…TRAP.

The Republicans are totally incompetent at Governing ( except for the part about Enriching their friends) but they are Very Good at Framing issues and Winning Elections.

Because of Bush’s special gifts, they really have their work cut out for them this year….but to underestimate these Modern day Machiavellis is a Big Mistake.

Two things are working in the Democrats favor.

1.Sen. Obama is very Smart, and has Surrounded himself with very Smart People.
    2. The National Enquirer

Thanks for the Link stjack. Gotta Love this internet.

  243. nickrhoward says:

Did anybody notice how, earlier in the thread, maur(who was claiming to be a Hillary supporter now in the McCain camp because of Palin) couldn’t bring himself/herself to state even one position on which they were in agreement with Hillary Clinton. Couldn’t bring themselves to do that after being called challenged to do so and being openly accused of lying about said Clinton support, but instead just accused her accusers of being ignorant. So many of these people claiming to Democrats voting for McCain are so obviously members of the 19% or so that think Bush is teh bestest preznit evah! They’re so divorced from all Democratic ideals they can’t even properly fake sincerity.

I am certain that, on the average, never in the history of our country have the members of ANY political party been as stupid and intellectually DISHONEST as current day Republicans. You know, Palin might actually be among the best the GOP has to offer right now; Americans that actually care about the country and aren’t total idiots have already left the GOP. They’re left with idiots and those whose belief system differs in no appreciable way from the textbook definition of fascism.

  244. desertflower1 says:

Maur…got it wrong! It’s NOT because she’s a woman, it’s because she’s an UNQUALIFIED woman. Hand’s down, flat out! As I read the other day, I wouldn’t let my kids be in the care of someone I had only met once or twice…yet we’re all supposed to be fine with this choice? Why? Because John “got a good feeling?” Where? It’s reckless and careless at the very least. She screwed up her state, now she wants to work on the lower 48? If you’d pass your kids over to someone that quickly, someone ought to call CPS.Shame.
